You could Frankenstein's some basic rules from a simple dungeon crawl systems and ryutama together. Use ryutama for the non combat sections and use simple dungeon crawl for combat stuff.

I missed the wii version but I vastly preferred the original to the sequels I did play. The sequels made em too much like the mainline final fantasies with convoluted bullshit storylines that were mostly just stupid imo
