So, how big do you guys think a minor Orders Militant might typically be?

Presumably, they get quite a few of the female cadets from the Schola Progeniums, so I would assume they're typically larger than 1,000, especially since a Preceptory is stated as typically being around that number.

I ask, because I have my own homebrew order, and I'm trying to get a reasonable number in. I've been thinking about 3,000.

I don't think there's ever been a firm number given on how many Sororitas there are in the galaxy. I've generally assumed they're more numerous than Space Marines, though, since their recruitment process is relatively less excessive, and the Ecclesiarchy has *a lot* to protect.

>What's the deal on your order?
I appreciate your interest. I posted them in the homebrew faction thread earlier, I'll link them in order to avoid double-posting.

So how do you think the different Orders approach systems of belief? Of course they follow the Imperial Cult, but are they orthodox or heterodox when compared to one another?

I like heterodoxy, as that makes the Orders a bit more unique.
>>
>>50965419
I would think that the Sororitas would typically be fairly homogenous in their beliefs, since they're under the Ecclesiarchy *and* mostly trained by the Schola Progenium, where individually is generally frowned upon.

It seems more that any quirks they develop are more in terms of how they operate than their religious views.

Granted, they could possibly fit into the category of heterodox, but don't simply because the Sororitas hasn't gotten as much development as, say, Space Marines or Imperial Guard.

I get that. I think there's a good argument for that, too. I've always wanted to see more on systems of belief within the Imperium and how that works. Like said, I think heterodoxy offers neat narrative choices so that's why I lean toward it.

>That's unfortunate that there isn't more. Are the ones you listed any good at least?
Yes, I really enjoyed them.

Hammer and Anvil kinda bugged me because about a 1/3 of the book focused on the perspective of Tech Priests. It had a purpose and I understood it, but I would prefer the Sisters have more of a perspective in a Sisters-centric novel.

The artwork in the Ephrael Stern graphic novel ranges from great to a little odd, particularly the artist's very strange and obsessive dedication to making the Sisters' bob cuts to look more like cartoonish bowl cuts. Great story, though.

Can't remember all the numbers given but the smallest number of Sisters in an Order is 1000.
The Orders Major can have up to 20,000 Sisters, I think, but generally only have less then 10K active at any time.
Orders Minoris I think rarely grow passed the 3K mark but it's a lot more common to have them all work together at the one task rather then broken over dozens of theaters like the big ones.

Also, can't remember the name, but the smallest formal group of Sisters and what is considered a scouting party, is roughly a 1000pt force.

According to the 2E codex, major orders number between 3000 and 4000 sisters (including 500-750 seraphims each), peaking at 7000 occasionally. Each convent can accomodate 15000 sisters.
According to the 5E WD codex, minor orders vary in size, with some having no more than a few hundred sisters
According to the 6E codex, minor orders go from a hundred to a thousand sisters.

>>50965202
A lot. Aside from crusades and wars, they're supposed to protect churches, shrines and other sacred sites, as well as pilgrim vessels and black ships (you actually have a few minor orders dedicated to boarding and ship combat). Of course GW, in it's usual retardation, gave us at least one sister per shrine in some bit of fluff, meaning that there are millions of sisters on every plane, but I think we can ignore that last element in favor of reason.
And then you have the non-militant orders.
Recruitment-wise, they're supposed to get the most of the schola's female recruits. So that means that sororitas are fewer than the sum of navy and guard officers, arbites, adepts and assassin in the Imperium by a small margin.

>>50965419
I think they'd lean toward orthodoxy since they're a fairly centralized organization, but the ecclessiarchy is pretty chill about that in general, and considering how remote some outposts may be due to warpstorms (and insterstellar travel hazards in general), and some sisters like the Sabine infiltrating non-imperial cults, I can see some quirks develloping.

They are probably better fed, the SoB do look to be better supplied than most regiments, probably at least partially due to being able to draw from tithes and what not, but they're PROBABLY not gonna be that fat though, at most they'd top out at strongfat/bearmode but probably are more along the line of their models than most cheesecake if due to muscle mass if nothing else

The sister searching something in an archive about a conspiracy of the planetary governor and he sends an assassin. Or was it the ecclesiarch who wanted to become planetary governor? Something like that.

Reason I ask is that I'm writing a story arc for my Inquisitor and his retinue, and I'm thinking in the terms of a kind of 'professional romance'.

Neither of them would want a child due to the nature of their jobs and the fact it could be used against them, but in an Inquisitor's line of work I imagine it can get very lonely, and when the alternative is knife-eared alien babes or murdersex demons, you probably want the hot nurse first.

Love is human. Human emotions are not Heresy.

If anything SoB are masturbatory celebration of humanity. Its mind and body. Hence why Sisters armour has boobs and hips shaped into them.

There was no need to show tits, ass and hips in their armour. So the one of the in universe explanation for it is an over the top celebration of the human form.

They have previous. My Inquisitor lost both his legs during his early career and she was the one on-hand to graft the prosthetic legs on.

The plan is to have them meet back up during a major event that results in her being drafted into the retinue, and things will go from there.

>>50970464
Yeah, I think that's a decent setup. You might want to craft it such that she's a separate entity from the team, an attachment as opposed to a direct member. That way both characters retain their narrative independence, that way you can write them working together while maintaining their agency. It'd also allow for some conflict to arise where there are things he wants done that may run contra to her scope or intent.
>>
>>50965196

These sisters are probably form some sort of paradise world or something.

That or the inquisitor that's attached himself to them just spoils them rotten. Either way, i want someone to greentext fat sisters.
>>

That is why I said one of the reasons.

But since female in 40k with Power armour do the same thing. I came to the conclusion that is a cultural thing. Bikini power armour is not a thing in 40k

Tits, hips and ass power armour are. If we reduce the female form to basic idea, those 3 things pop up from the male form. So enchancing those atributes in the armour makes sense in universe
>>
>>50970498
She'd be acting a little bit 'Godwyn Fischig', in the sense that she's not there half the time, but she's still a part of the retinue, or at least considered part by those within it.

GW needs to stop playing with numbers, all of that makes the Sisters sound like they're barely big enough to be a significant force on a single planet.

I know I need to not be an autist about fantasy, but, c'mon. What can a force of 100 to 7000 humans do? Fly around to other planets and shout at people over the Vox? "Hey! There better not be any heresy going on down there!!"

That's not enough numbers to have an affect on anything, the entirety of Adeptus Soritas including homebrews can fit inside your local Rec-center and have just enough ammo to burn a village before they run out, unable to do any of the shit that's within their sphere of galactic wide duties.

With those numbers there are fewer Soritas in the galaxy than there are Space Marines.

>In the centuries following the Age of Apostasy, Saint Dominica led the Adepta Sororitas as founder and overall patron. Her martyrdom at the hands of heretics on Frideswide's World left a great void in the organisation, which experienced a temporary crisis as no leader felt they were able to adequately follow in Dominica's footsteps.

>Eventually, Ecclesiarch Equitius XI intervened and ordered the leaders of each Order to elect one of their number to lead. After many weeks debate, the leaders agreed by majority that Sister Palmiro of the Order of the Holy Word was most suited to take up the rank of Abbess of the Adepta Sororitas. However, Sister Palmiro was an exceptionally humble woman and declined to lead, stating that it was her intention to depart on a pilgrimage to San Leor, and that she had no desire for rank and privilege.

>After much debate, it was agreed that Sister Palmiro should complete her pilgrimage, but that she would take up the rank of Abbess upon her return, and regard it as a welcome penance. Palmiro agreed to these terms, and after barely a century, the tradition of electing the candidate who least desired the rank of Abbess to the post became commonplace, that she should regard it not as a privilege but as a penance, and that she should untertake a pilgrimage to San Leor before taking up the position.

>This tradition was maintained for most of four millennia, until the election of Sister Sabrina of the Order of the Ermine Mantle. Unfortunately, Sabrina disappeared whilst on her pilgrimage and never returned to Terra. The last sighting of Sabrina and her entourage was on the ocean world of Habren IV, and though it is not known whether she fell prey to attack or some other misfortune, the Sisters of the Ermine Mantle have embarked upon at least a dozen missions to locate her.

>Until she is found or her fate determined, Ecclesiarchal law dictates that the post of Abbess of the Adepta Sororitas must remain vacant.

SOBs, in most cases, don't act as an independant organization.
Maybe an Inquisitor will requisition a minor order. Or some prioress decides to remove an heretic high-ranking official with a strike.
But for stuff like planetary invasions, you're looking at whole crusades, with contigents from several SoB orders, tons of frateris militia, with the associated arcoflagellants, crusaders and henchmen. And that's only the stufff that's directly under Ecclesiarchy control. Not a lot of people will refuse the call of "Imperator Io Vult"

The Imperial Guard regiment is also roughtly 1000 men strong, and it doesn't prevent the IG from taking planets.

>>

Considering the feats accomplished by mere civilians in 40k, there certainly was eugenics and genetic engineering programs put in place during the DAoT. Hard to explain savants, abhumans and people surviving lethal doses of radiations without nothing more serious than a few additional tentacles without it.
>>
>>50972642
My personal theory is that modern 40k humans are not our modern humans.

I mostly base this in an old lore inside the 3rd edition rulebook.

Basically said Golden men made the Iron men and Stone men.
When the iron men rebel against the Goldenmen, the stone men help them fight against the ironemen.
Once the war was over the goldenmen where almost extinct.

Why the goldenmen create the stone men? Well because in this old lore. The golden men could not into space. So the Stonemen where made.

It is said the that last goldenmen is the Emperor.

This would also explain why abhumans are a thing. Hand made humans for space colonisation that quickly evolve and adapt to their planet with little help of terraforming. Could also explain why chaos random mutation does not outright kill humans. Maybe the genetic modification for the Stone men helps counter the rapid chaos mutation.

TL:DR 40k humans where made to colonise the stars. They are not real earth humans

So basically, she turbofucks Daemons and is mostly useless outside of that. Also, it's kind of strange that she can't be part of SoB, considering that the sisterhood weren't the ones who had a problem with her.

Also kind of weird that her statline sucks, considering that she was thrown into a Dark Eldar arena, pretty much naked and armed only with a knife, and still won with relative ease.

If you know anything about the Catholic Church it's pretty easy to see the superficial similarities between it and the Ecclesiarchy. There is a good chance they do take vows of celibacy and chastity to be similar to nuns being married to God. The canon everything likes to point to is shaky ground since it's Ciaphas Cain, not exactly a series that treats 40k lore super seriously and tries to remain true to the last minute detail.

Celibacy is the state of voluntarily being unmarried, sexually abstinent, or both, it USUALLY refers just a vow to avoid marriage and from there, sexual relations in wedlock (sex outside of wedlock is assumed as well, but not actually part of the vow, you're just expected to behave yourself)

Chastity actually refers specifically to sex out of wedlock, it's often used to refer to any and all sex, but technically speaking, you can be married, fuck your spouse all day long and still be chaste

Seems pretty overcomplicated. Personally, I think religions have got it all wrong. I think God would like us to fuck all we want if it makes us happy.

Fun thing with religions, you can interpret them almost in any way you like.
Chastisty means "you don't be a slaaneshi cultist driven by your pulsions" in some cases. In other instances, it's "no sex, no impure thoughts, no masturbation". Lot of variation depending on the period and the culture.

Not really, Celibacy=no marriage (and the implication of no sex)
Chaste=no sex unless it's with your spouse

>I think God would like us to fuck all we want if it makes us happy.
>Be fruitful and multiply
It's actually a direct commandment from God in Christianity/Judaism, just y'know, get married first

Sory to break your bubble but there is no upper limit on Order size, as far as we know there might be Order with 200k Sisters on active duty.
They dont folow codex astrates, they might get more sister in preparation for cusade or to protect more pilgrims or new churches.

I think it could be just some crystal, or maybe a symbol of something. Flame?

I have heard mentioned that the Ciaphas Cain stories are not considered quite canon, but whatever. I would say it could happen, just quite seldom
