All the DCs are based on it. Certain bonuses as well; a self-avowed has a "divine grace" analogue that functions on it.

Check carefully what you're using and/or not using; some builds can get away with ignoring it or keeping it at 12 or so, others will need to max it out.
>>
>>50929493

Sounds like mom needs to marry her off to someone who will let her live in their basement!
>>
>>50929421
Back in 2e the metallics often gave their previous growth's layer to make armor with; basically a sign of high honor or affection.

You'd expect your kids to maybe have a suit for their human form, your lover either has a suit OR one from some even older dragon you killed together, you might present enough for a shield to a worthy hero that comes by, and so on.

From the dragon's point of view, you're basically giving them your dandruff so it's no big loss to you - but you DO know how valuable it is.

Okay, so let me get this straight.

Avowed gives you Clauses, and most of these Clauses grant you 24 hour bonuses... But doesn't that mean those bonuses can be constantly renewed and are basically "inherent" bonuses?

Like, take Silver Tongue; for 24 hours you get a +6 bonus to Diplomacy, Bluff and Intimidate. What will stop me from having a +6 bonus to those stats all the ding dong time?

It doesn't really exist in PF.

Enemies are allowed to be intelligent, and the intelligent thing to do is to always kill the mage first.

Things that might come close are the Cavalier's Challenge, depending on the Order, and a Warder's Armiger's Mark.

>+X Cloak of Resistance
>+X Stat Belt

>+X Amulet of Nat Armor

From here is diverges. These are the main heavy hitting quality of life items. If we wanted to go pure comfort we'd then go to stuff like Marvelous Pigment, Anytools, and more. If you're melee different things matter than if you're a control caster.

Second time DM here looking for some insight.

For context, everyone in my group is as new to the game as I am (it was our first time playing). The first campaign I ran was Falcon's Last Hope, and while my players enjoyed it, they complained that there wasn't a lot of roleplaying going on and that there was a little too much combat, which I agree with. I think that was caused by a few different things, but mostly I think it just came down to the fact that it was a pre-built campaign and everyone was inexperienced.

So, for my next campaign I'm looking to put something together myself. I'd like to have /some/ combat, but I would like the main focus to be on story and roleplaying. Over time I'd like for it to evolve into a deeper story, but for the sake of the players (and myself) I'd like to start with something small and simple, yet still engaging. Do you guys have any suggestions as to how I could go about that? What sort of campaigns did you have success with when you were still new to the game?

Another thing I'm struggling with, one of my players is a neutral evil Oracle and another is a lawful good Paladin. They're already starting to butt heads and it's already getting old. I want to let them play what they want but at the same time their characters really have no reason to be adventuring together. They argue over any decision where morality comes into play and at this point I feel like it's really just wasting everyone's time. Any ideas on how I can deal with this without just straight up telling one of them to make a new character?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

>Do you guys have any suggestions as to how I could go about that?
Build your campaign around the player characters. Let everyone co-ordinate their characters so they're friends, colleagues, or otherwise comfortable travelling and working together. Talk to them about what they want out of the campaign, what kinds of themes or tone they want to experience. Have them encounter a mystery, threat, or adventure that directly relates to what they care about and their personal goals. Make that adventure be connected to something greater, an evil scheme or terrible force that threatens not just the PCs, but people and places they care about. Have important people from your character's backstory make guest appearances, and have former friends and rivals either help the party or join the forces of evil. Don't make the characters The Chosen Ones, but have them be invested in what's going on.

>Any ideas on how I can deal with this without just straight up telling one of them to make a new character?
First, remind the Paladin that Lawful Good does not mean Evangelical Asshole. He practices altruism and follows the spirit of the law and justice, but that does not mean he should judge others who follow different paths. He should oppose any who commit evil acts but being selfish is not in itself a crime. Moreover he should be able to put aside his personal gripes so he can work with his team-mate. They're both on the same side, infighting just helps their enemies.

Second, remind the Oracle that Neutral Evil does not mean Puppy-Kicking Serial Killer. He puts his own needs and those of his closest friend above anyone else, but that does not mean that he should run around being an asshole. Some of the best Evil characters are those who are friendly and respectful, all the while amassing wealth, power, and status. Encourage him to 'play the long game' and maybe throw some subplots his way so he can do vaguely nefarious things that don't ruin your adventure.

>Isn't there something like Evasion but for Will saves, by the way?
It is called Stalwart, an Inquisitor class features. Some other archetypes also get it.

>So how do I not die immediately in a game of rocket tag.
PoW counters make you effectively immune to rocket tag. However, the issue is in round 1 you don't have an immediate action to take until you act.

>What can I do to neutralize incoming attacks?
Attacks of Opportunity can still be done before you take an action in combat at long as you have Uncanny Dodge. Cut/Smash from the air then makes you immune to ranged attacks, siege weapons, and spells that rely on attack rolls.

Another way to do it is just put your saves out of spell's reach. This is difficult but entirely possible to do.

To expand on this some no save and die spells exist. So your saves won't matter if the enemy uses mindscape on you.

However any GM who uses these spells on players, or players who use these spells, should be shot.

Sounds like you hit one of the classic hurdles, anon-teammates who won't be a team. A little conflict can make for some nice roleplaying, but if they're constantly grinding things to a halt, you should talk to them about it. Ideally, this would have been headed off at character creation or during the initial session, but if they don't have any reason to cooperate with each other, then you and they need to start thinking of one.

The best blessing is probably the War blessing, though other good ones include Strength, Darkness/Trickery, Luck, Liberation, and Destruction. If you know what enemies you'll be facing then Chaos/Evil/Good/Law are decent. For inquisitions, it's probably Conversion.

Really though, the fact is that a Warder isn't going to be your skills guy, so int isn't something he needs. But he DOES need good Will saves, so he wants wis. Also Perception, Sense Motive if he's a ZS, etc.

>Build your campaign around the player characters.
I would love to. The problem I'm running into is that only one of them really has a fleshed out story. The other two are just sort of... there, I guess. That's something that just comes down to inexperience, again, I think. I could tell them to come up with more than what they have already, but at the same time I don't want to be too pushy. I'm assuming they were mostly thinking that their characters would start as blank slates that would grow over time. Either that, or they're just lazy. I don't know. They're certainly not the most creative bunch, so getting anything worthwhile out of them might be a little hard to do.

>First, remind the Paladin that Lawful Good does not mean Evangelical Asshole.
This is the problem I'm running into. He's a stubborn dude and that definitely shows through his character. It's not too bad (yet), but it does get a little old having to stop every time the Oracle does something so the Paladin can complain about it.

>Second, remind the Oracle that Neutral Evil does not mean Puppy-Kicking Serial Killer.
The Oracle is less of a problem than the Paladin, to be honest. He's more neutral than evil. It's just that his methods are... less than good and so the Paladin feels the need to vocalize his distaste every time he does anything. The biggest issue I'm running into is trying to find a reason for either of them to associate with each other in the first place. Finding a common goal for two characters on opposite ends of the spectrum is proving to be difficult, at least when taking into consideration how the Paladin is going to handle the way the Oracle will inevitably go about reaching that goal.

Actually, that idea's been in a state of flux recently; there ARE signs that there were vents within the temple of Delphi, but there is absolutely no trace of sulfur or other hard mind-altering substances being burned. As far as modern research can tell, the vents were used to create atmospheric lighting and dynamic smoke, while the oracle was either legitimately handicapped in some way (either through seizures, schizophrenia, or other methods), or was simply a really good actor and could mimic said disabilities.

Am I the only one that cares about open carry, peace bonding and more?

Players give me such fucking strange looks when I say "You can't buy a Fireball Wand, they're highly illegal and owning or making one is punishable with imprisonment." or "You need your weapons peace bonded while in the city, if you don't have them peace bonded or stored and someone important sees you then you can get in trouble (likely fines).".

It's like people get weirded out when cities don't want people with dangerous magic/at the ready weapons walking around unless they have some sort of reason to (military, noble's employee, license).

Sure small towns can't enforce this, but large cities try to. Especially for shit like a fireball wand because that could easily kill hundreds of civilians in the hands of a level 2 expert with decent charisma. (he's only manage to activate it one out of every 2-3 rounds, but that still would kill dozens with each blast).
>>
>>50932049
The fireball wand thing makes sense as a black market item, but a sword is just something a person carries. Nobles, knights, guards, smart travelers, everyone's gonna have a sword.

Don't get hit to the first. You do this by stacking miss chances, physical interdiction (the old Robilar's Gambit/Karmic Strike/Improved Trip setup) or neutralizing them before they can hit you.

Second verse same as the first, but Cut/Smash from Air or emergency parries (like Crane Wing and Wings of Cover used to be) come into play.

Third is Stalwart. Slippery Mind and a few other things give you rerolls instead.

>>50932049
It's possible you're dealing with veteran players.

On average, it only takes one cocking up of the peacebonding or "leave them at the door" situation for the demand to become a new synonym for "roll initiative".

Very often naive young new players will understand stuff like this, and leave shit with the coat-check like they're asked.

... then they're either executed while unarmed, OR they never see their gear again.

And, as one might say, "you only get one". From that point on most players become a bit more defensive of their things. The more devious will hide their weapons or find ways to smuggle them, while some may simply view "please remove your weapons" as what they learned it *was*: an overtly hostile act. This is compounded by the high likelihood that the people asking you to disarm ARE ARMED, and possibly (as security or those groping assholes who couldn't find a bomb if you taped one to their faces in the TSA are wont to do) quite arrogant and/or belligerent.

1. You can't create a Wand of Fireball unless you can cast Fireball
2. Many spellcasters don't craft magic items(at least, not routinely)
3. Of those who do, many don't(or can't) craft wands(since it's not a (common) bonus feat, and it's generally one of the less useful ones - of all crafters, those who can only create scrolls or potions(due to wizards and alchemists) are almost certainly more common than ones who can create any other kind of magic item)
4. Finally, even if a spellcaster can create a Wand of Fireball, he's unlikely to spend a significant amount of time doing so compared to adventuring and crafting other kinds of magic items. And even if he does, it takes 12 days per wand, so he can only create about 30 per year.
5. Therefore, we can conclude that wands of fireball shouldn't be very common compared to casters who can cast a fireball - assuming wands are being consumed at approximately the same rate as they are being created and therefore have an average life time of approximately one year(after all, there's little point creating such wands if they aren't going to be used), there should be AT MOST around 30 wands of fireball per caster capable of casting a fireball, and almost certainly more casters than wands.

Magic vs Civilization measures tiers:

>High Tier
-PCs exclusively travel underground networks of rogues, rebels and criminals to routinely smuggle themselves into literally every major city, this is a major facet of the the world setting
-all citizens wear power-siphoning collars that give patrol captains and ranks above that progressively greater access to magic powers with their own ranked collars
-your powers aren't even real outside of the place your adventures take you into

>Mid Tier
-easily bribed gate guards but you're still in trouble if caught later
-brutal technocracy/magocracy with shockingly overkill security forces in place police the towns, possession of weapons and monitor spellcasters
-towns are antimagic fields
-your powers ARE real outside adventuring areas, but it's WoD-style bullshit where if normies witness *any* of it there are sudden and potentially horrible consequences that have a random chance to occur

>Low Tier
-"it's just fantasy, we contrive the setting to pretend it's not a problem"
-this is LITERALLY god's city/planar hub and angels will fuck you up if you touch anything

>Bottom Tier
-"no one gets weapons! casters are fine though ^.^"
-magic is just really incredibly rare to the degree where any mage you play is the only one most NPCs will see in their life, and the only magically relevant people in the setting are (surprise) you, the villain and like one unhelpful allied place like the village containing the last 10 elves on the planet

>>50932837
Wands of Fireball would be more common than casters that can cast it. After all, one caster that is able to cast Fireball that goes into a career supplying magic items, then they might distribute a number of them. You don't need to be able to cast fireball to use the wand.

To PC's******
Think about an actual fucking entrepreneur who wanted to make some money, or needed to supply an army back in the day. It's very conceivable that many were produced in some historical period, and left over (like ak's) or, in a high fantasy setting, some guy runs a shop and his apprentice wizards are tasked with making wands for practice and profit. Not all wizards are adventurers. The richest ones aren't. Remember that the folks that made bank on the gold rushes weren't the miners, but the people selling shovels.

12 days per wand. And that's assuming they do nothing but craft Wands of Fireball eight hours per day. If they're actually in the business of supplying magic items(instead of doing it for shits and giggles which, admittedly, is a possibility. Frigging wizards.), Wands of Fireball are almost certainly not going to be the most common item they're asked to create. Like I said, that's 30 wands per year and most of those aren't going to last for very long - unless you expect to use the wand regularly, it's usually cheaper to just get a bunch of scrolls. Casters capable of casting a fireball MIGHT be slightly less common than Wands of Fireball, but even that's debatable, and they're certainly not going to be far less common.

Wands CANNOT be used by those not of the appropriate class without an explicitly trained special skill and a DC 20 check. You cannot use it without being the appropriate spellcaster type unless you have special training that allows you to fake it, and even THEN your odds of success are unimpressive without PC levels and bonuses.

Not only do you require specialized training, but the average NPC with +0 CHA and no class-skill bonus to it will only have a 25% chance of success at level 4 if they keep full ranks in the skill.

This is neither a useful nor wise use of their time in combat, which is where a wand of fireball is needed most. It's an excessively expensive stick at a standard purchase price of 11250gp; more than the purchasing power of a level 5 PC or a level 10 heroic NPCs total value (of which no more than 4k should have been spent on a single weapon item; and far less for limited use ones).

The majority of people not only CANNOT use a wand of fireball, they've never even met someone that could afford it either.

There's a difference between keeping explosives out of the hands of people in a place devoid of structure or government and telling everyone in your country to voluntarily surrender their means of defending themselves. Maybe some day, the cops will be psycho indoctrinated paladins of protection that can teleport anywhere and prevent any violent crime, but for now it takes them 20+ minutes and they aren't responsible if I get cut into pieces by some maniac, so I'm packing.

Eternal Wands are that, I think. Great 3.5 stuff. They go up to 3rd level and are just 2/day wands (no charge bullshit) that everyone can use. I think they had an extra 100gp or 200gp tacked on and otherwise used the same pricing scale as 50-charge wands.

At this point most municipal police in the US aren't even doing 'public' security anymore; THEIRS comes first. This is part of the mentality that's led to the shootings.

The canned defense they use whenever they gun someone down because they panicked or felt like it or just wanted whatever that person had, It's practically a meme now:

Shit like that gets spouted even when what one of them did was jump onto a stopped car and empty his entire magazine through the windshield.

Do keep in mind the US (trump in particular, he has a lot of construction) wants more than anything for their illegals to stay illegal. It's not about stopping them, it's not about keeping jobs, it's about making sure that those stealing those jobs (they do want to eat and not die, mind you) keep them stolen, under the table, and with shit pay and no rights, instead of registered, paying taxes, and being legal citizens with rights and protections.

At this point I think it's too late to ask for everyone in Andoran to just drop their scorching ray wands. People wouldn't, or only the bad people wouldn't, and public safety just decreases more than anything. But they have to really ramp up education funding and unify national education standards; my main concern travelling there is the COMBINATION of everyone having the power to instantly make whoever they don't like into a roasted corpse AND some huge proportion of them being dumb as bricks at the same time. That don't fly by me, you know?

They aren't, even moreso than regular guns, because they are STUPIDLY expensive to buy, impossibly rare to craft (requires at *least* two artifact-scale pieces of large, immobile equipment), and while they can be powerful, fueling them requires silverdisks, which are again, something you can only make with two large, artifact scale pieces of equipment and cannot be recharged without having a chance to break. As well, the basic ones are shit for damage--stuff like 2d6 or 2d8 elemental damage, or, worse, half one element and half another. It's entirely shit.
