Do you have problems with your local store /tg/?

I've been having trouble going to mine and I'm wondering what you would advise. I honestly think the manager at the store I play at hates his regular customers.

At this point it was perfect, people always came down with a small box of paints just to do some work on their guys, talk to people and maybe get a game. but then...

Then last weekend this happened to me

My LGS is great. Not super busy, but 3 game tables, a painting table, the card game area (which usually has 2+ tables open to paint at), no advance booking required, 300+ pieces of painted terrain for free use. My favored point bracket, and what I built for, is 1000 points. I have provisions up to 1850, and it's required to field the core unit of my army fluff-wise, but 1850pt games take too long.

Either 1000 or 1500 would be fine under your conditions in my book. I have 1100-ish built right now, but of that, only about 20% is painted.

Cult Ambush also gets infantry where he wants them though, especially with the Subterranean Uprising Detachment. The huge amount of tax units in the Broodcycle is meh (and fucking expensive money-wise), but the buff banner seems quite nice. It could be swapped for the Neophyte Cavalcade though.

I was looking at the List Builder in the OP, and I noticed that it looks like the book added Tech-Priest Engineseers and Servitors to the Cult Mechanicus Faction (whereas before they were Astra Militarum faction), with the Engineseers being HQs and Servitors Elites.

Is this really true? Do Cult Mechanicus armies now have an Elites choice that's not totally garbage, even if half of the utility's probably in having a two-man unit with two Plasma Cannons for ten points each (or 25 points each if you're not running AdMech War Convocation)?

My GW store is pretty damn chill, the Manager is super friendly and while the booking thing applies at his shop it's mainly for the gaming table and if people want to play a small game while the main table is in use he's perfectly fine with clearing out space and bringing out the battlemat. He lets people try out paints from his own set before they buy it as well.

Only downside is that because my country has super expensive property/rent the place is pretty damn small. One 4*4 try your first game table, one regular table and around five to six painting spots.

Just came back to see the chaos fanboy war I started (>>50799747) to explain what I meant.

The new rules are just SM rules repackaged or nerfed. Yes legions is good BUUUUUUUUT it's not for me because I like grizzled elite veterans not downgrade cheap cult troops. Great for tournies aweful for fluff.

Also, as many have pointed out already, many of the new CSM models are just downright aweful. For me CSM should be evil, dirty and grizzled looking veterans who have seen it all. Not colourful pansies on their way to mardi gras (pic related).

TL;DR? Even though CSM got lots of love... it just wasn't the right kind of love.

All that is required is that you say "Builder prices this too high" in the post and no one says anything if they can read. This time I forgot to type it, but it doesn't really matter. It creates a nice looking list that is easy to read and see, even if it's not 100% right.

It's much better than the messy, almost unreadable lists people write down from their word processor or spreadsheet.

Sorry I should have preffesed it by saying: what are you equipping the lord and sorcerer with. If it's something that compliaments the claws your OK to go as marine hunters, but if you are going for something to compliament the PF then rethink it as two members will be waisted. Also after the claw comes down there will be a turn before you can charge which makes this MEH considering the 3+ units are cheaper than yours. However if you swapped the claws for fists and maybe dropped the lord for another termie then this could be adequate tank hunting unit (but once again there are better alternatives. Plus keep in mid that you sorcerer isn't generating warp charges in reserves so, really what is he doing there? Unless he is your only sorcerer and you NEED him to be in the middle of the enemy turn 1/2 then, not the place for him.

You know what I never see? Engiseers in a Guard army. I rarely see them, and when I do see them they are alone or with 1-2 Servitors. You know what I see even less? Servitors with guns.

I'd love to do a 5 man unit with Plasma Cannons. 175 points for 5 Plasma Blasts is not bad. Sure, you could get an Executioner for that price, but the Servitor unit can get the order to ignore cover. If you park that unit behind something like Bullgryns, they'd get a 3+ Cover save while negating the cover the enemy is granted from you shooting through.

I would hesitantly suggest against buying into an all metal army. They're going to be by and large more expensive than a regular army, doubly so since both of those regiments are OOP. They're awesome, sure, but they're also very samey model wise. And with guard, you're liable to have a lot of feet on the ground at any given moment.

Forgot to add i'm actual military and will try to use Modern Tactics, and strategy I learn and find out on table top like support by fire elements to slow down or halt advances while an assault element gets close to finish the job. Interlocking fields of fire being watched with Artillery on standby to splinter the enemy into smaller more managable groups, Armour formations, the works. so anything else I should know that may help me with that like I hear imperial Guard gets good orders, are they extremely useful?

Also thinking of getting 3 squads of ten, 3 Chimeras [Forgeworld autocannon, and added armour] a command squad. Possibly 3 Leman Russ tanks. I'm a big fan of Mechanized, and Armour Warfare.

Sadly to say 40k doesn't rely much on tabletop tactics. The vast majority of tactics come in the form of list building. The most tactical one I know is infinity so it might be worth trying that some.

However onto 40k. 3 squads of ten each with a chimera would look nice and if that is what you like, go for it. However IG's strong suit is the ability to throw masses of bodies at the enemy so it's a pretty so so list. But if that is the aesthetics your going for, don't let the list get in the way.

You're mistaking tactics for strategy. 40K has plenty of tactical depth, you just aren't aware of it and don't know how to play the game at a higher level.

For example, I can make a unit with a 6" move get into combat from further than 18" away. I can kill a grav gun model without using the precision shot rule, etc. You just have to know how to use the rules to your advantage. This game rewards you for clumping your squads, spacing out at max coherency, and conga lining all depending on the various situation you're in. How you can say that isn't tactics is beyond me.

How could Sorcerers be differentiated from Librarians through crunch. Their fluff is quite different, but they share most of disciplines with eachother. There are a few mistakes in the list but I think I can help. First off the infantry squads can't be taken like that. Two are purchased as one troop choice alongside a platoon command. Taking them like that would make them a veteran squad which lowers the body count, and even though they have their uses, aren't so good at taken the bulk of shots because of how expensive they are. I'd suggest one of them (in a chimera with demolitionists if you like a armoured armour popper) and a infantry platoon to take the hits. Nice tank choices, no complaint there. Also with the command squad you need five men before you bring masters of x. So drop a verteran with melta (one per squad) and ad a standard and medic.

From there add more tanks, artillery and men until you are happy.

Yea, deployment is a pretty big part, and going second is sometimes helpful.

In pic related sorry for the unpainted terrain, my Seraphim managed to HnR into the back field ruins because my opponent ran his unit around the corner. Meanwhile, his bikes couldn't melted under 5 combi-plasma despite the jinks, while my Retributers forced some cultists to go to ground as my flamer troops moved up field.

It was a messy T1, which let him get FnP and Bloodletters down on T2.

Not sure I fully understand what your saying but working on the new list. Also yeah I like transports but I'm not fully sure how the Chimera feels on tabletop. (Would like to give it an Autocannon if possible) How well do they take hits. Do they feel like Armored cars or like an IFV? Also i'm trying to make this a skilled Mechanized/Armoured Company with Armor and Artillery support. I was gonna add Chimeras but it would cost to many points. Also assuming I need the Company commander. Lastly I want to try and make guardsmen survive I know retarded but I want to start with normal guardsmen and eventually upgrade to Veterans. I feel I shouldn't use Veterans until a squad actually survives to be veterans.

The problem is their discipline and the unit they are in. They more or less act as horrible warp charge generators.

Giving a power weapon to a sergeant ina naked sternguard squad isn't going to be worth more than 5 pts most of the time. So you currently left paying more than 50 pts for a warp charge. In comparison, Heralds of Tzeentch generate 3 for 100 and have up to 4 useful psychic powers.

If you give him a useful power, like psychic shriek and the possability of another useful power then he would be worth +30 pts (35-40 with 2 W), until then he should be +20 pts (+25-30 with an extra wound).

Veterans don't have company command squads. Veterans are also better in mechanized lists so getting platoon command squads in the first place just to level up the infantry squads in your head in order to make them worth being fielded as veterans is a little silly. Just think of your vets as being those which have been trained a little better than the rest.

Read your codex. You need at least 2 infantry squads for each company command squad. Also avoid batteries of more than 1 vehicle.

Consider using another program to make your army, while it's harder to get us to review your list, at least we won't have to be bothered to tell you that your list is illegal.

The Vanquisher will hurt when it hits, but it needs help with accuracy to be a reliable anti-vehicle/monster. A Lascannon (for more high strength shooting) and a psyker rolling Divination for re-rolls to hit helps a lot.

All by itself with no upgrades I would take the standard Battle Tank since it is somewhat reliable at hurting a vehicle and if it scatters it still has a chance at hurting something. Only downside is it suffers from Ordnance unlike the Vanquisher.

Here is something simple I threw together for you with 50 points to spend on upgrades.

There is much in the way of options. Either keep then cheap with just flamers and infiltrate, or give then autoguns for 1pt each and a flamer and try to rapid fire.

I don't think the double cultist gimmick is that good. Think about it. The enemy knows that is your trick. They will rapid fire your cultists down to 3 or 4 guys, who will promptly flee due to the apostle being half the board away. While fleeing they don't count as destroyed and so don't generate a new squad. If they flee of the board in a single turn, you have a 75 percent chance to get at least one new squad, with a 50 percent chance it will come on from outflank (because the insurgent respawn dont have outflank, only the lost and damned ones do). The other half the time it will appear in your backfield and just walk up the board essentially doing nothing unless you are playing objectives where it may accomplish some back field objective denial.

Helcult is a seperate non- insurgency force formation, 1 helbrute is tax but you get 2 squads of fearless cultists who can never lose that fearless and even get zealot if the dread gets a visit from Mr. Grav. Up to 70 immovable cultists infiltrating could cause anyone problems as they WILL stick around to the bitter end.

This is close to my own list I'm building. I'd say don't bother with sponsons if you're taking battle tanks because you'll only ever snap fire them. Maybe make them a tank commander squad and make the commander a vanquisher with lascannon and perhaps multi meltas for some bs4 anti tank.
