The Beast was one of the most powerful Ork Warbosses to have ever lived. In 544.M32 he united much of the Ork race and nearly succeeded in conquering the Galaxy.
His Waaagh! was the largest the Galaxy has ever seen and rampaged across the Imperium, eclipsing even the one Horus defeated during the Ullanor Crusade which earned him the title of Warmaster. The Beast was a highly intelligent Ork, capable of speaking flawless Gothic. Embittered by the humiliation of the Ork race during the Ullanor Crusade, he intended to cripple humanity and rule the galaxy.
The Imperium only halted his advance at great cost and desperate measure, devastating the Adeptus Astartes.

In truth there was not a single Warboss known as The Beast. Rather, they were a collection of six "Prime-Orks", monstrously powerful and intelligent Warbosses who each commanded a "Legion" (possibly Clan) of Greenskins.

>GW or FW need to make The Beast

Any idea how to make a good greatcoat Stromtroopers? Sell a kidney and mutilate Krieg Granadier models? Find million monopose Cadian Command squad legs and stick them on Scions models?

There isn't a single Trukk in that image.

Lootas are also not Speed Freak/Kult of Speed. They're aligned with Deffskullz, since they like to loot stuff. Flash Gitz are Bad Moons aligned, because that's the richest klan.

Iconic Kult of Speed units are as follows:

- Aircraft (check)
- Trukks
- Deffkoptas
- Buggies
- Bikers (check)

Battlewagons are a bit of a tough one because they're not fast, but they are vehicles.

In any case, that above bundle includes stuff that isn't iconic to Kult of Speed and misses out on some of the most pivotal stuff.

In the Kakophanii formation, do you reckon it is better to run with 3 or 6 units of noise marines?
6 very quickly becomes most of your army, but the bonus is pretty nice. On the other hand, I am more than happy with Split-Fire and Shred in 3-4 squads of 6 Noise Marines.
>>
>>50626632

I never said they were unique, I said certain units are aligned with particular klans, and that they are iconic for those klans. A Deffskull boxset should contain Lootas. A Goff bundle should have Nobz. And so on.

The Speed Freakz bundle, as I said, has some iconic units. But it also has two (Lootas and Flash Gitz) that simply aren't iconic to Speed Freaks no matter how much you cut it. Is it inconceivable that a Speed Freakz Warboss hired some Lootas and Gitz to do some long range dakka for him? Of course not; Orks do that sort of thing all the time. It's just that they're not iconic units.

Look at is this way. Say GW put up an Iron Warriors bundle. In it was a Warpsmith, an Obliterator, and a box of Possessed. Now, it's not that Iron Warriors would never use Possessed. But they're certainly not an iconic Iron Warriors unit.

Tank Hunters, in an edition where tanks aren't the immediate must-take they used to be.

ObSec Oblits are good, but they're still 70pts a model.

6+ FNP is negligible.

There are a lot of problems with the Psychic Phase beyond just Witchfires being, in general, crappy.

>Most of the disciplines are unfocused messes.
Having random power generation could be okay, but you need to be able to at least have some idea of what your psyker can do. You can throw two dice at Pyromancy and end up with two Blessings and a Heavy Flamer. You can throw two dice at Biomancy and up with nothing but Witchfires. There are a lot of disciplines with one or two interesting powers with lots of utility that are surrounded by spells that have no relation in function or effect that make going for the utility powers a gamble (Telekinesis and Leviation for example). Thousand Sons feel the pain of this issue a lot, since their psykers are all forced to throw away a Mastery Level on Tzeentch and the Tzeentch table itself is a mess of functions.

>Psykers have diminishing returns.
The vast majority of psykers aren't efficient enough to cast a total Warp Charge Cost worth of powers equal to their Mastery Level. This means that in order for a psychic focused army to succeed, they have to spam battery psykers to let their actual casters operate (Daemons), or they have to take a small number of psykers in a formation that makes them ultra efficient (Librarius Conclave and its derivatives). Once again, Thousand Sons feel this issue a lot. Both of their core formations come with a minimum four psykers, and all of their psyker-boosting formations come with additional four psykers. Eight psykers (in the form of T4 characters) is just way too many psykers for any reasonably sized game. Many of those psykers (Aspiring and Scarab Occult Sorcerers) are significantly less efficient than the others, making it even harder for them to do what you're paying significant points for.

>TBC
>>
>>50626991

>Power balance is very poor.
The majority of powers are actually quite mediocre. This is true of Witchfires and non-Witchfires alike. Witchfires feel it more acutely since every faction has guns that can replicate most psychic shooting attacks, but many Blessings and Maledictions aren't in and of themselves worth running psykers for either. Nobody takes 300 points in Libby Conclave Librarians to cast Terrify and Hallucination. Most psyker builds are focused around diving for a handful of specific and incredibly powerful force multiplier spells (Veil of Time, Invisibility, Perfect Timing, etc) or they're just based around spamming Summoning spells. The Tzeentch Discipline is a very good example of this. The Primaris is generally never worth casting. Boon is actually never worth casting. Siphon Magic is situationally worth casting, but is often a dead draw. Treason of Tzeentch and Breath of Chaos are both situationally good, but their high warp charge cost means that you'll often be better off casting multiple cheaper powers. Bolt of Change and Baleful Devolution are both great.
>>
>>50626994
>>50626991
Psykers should have a "overreach" thing, where they can attempt to draw on more power than they can safely handle in exchange for larger perils chance.

Also Miscast > Perils

Rate my list lads.

Coming back to the game after over 10 years not active.

I like Banshees. Not necessarily competitive, and i don't like the idea of WK's.
>>
>>50627013

The real problem is the perils chart is basically a straight up buff or has virtually no downside due to most psykers being LD9 or 10.

>Thousand Sons with Magnus
>death guard

Spots 4-7 and 8-9 are a bit up in the air. Yes, Magnus is THAT powerful. Any game with Magnus in it is decided on the top of the first turn. Either the enemy goes first and manages to kill him before he buffs up and takes off, or he will fly around the table, blasting whole swaths of the enemy army with the D.
>>
>>50627023
Don't bother with wave serpents for banshees.
The turn or movement they gain is lost by the turn they spend disembarking and standing about doing nothing.

Yeah, that's why Eldar Far Seers will NEVER burn a Warp Charge to avoid rolling on the Buffs of the Warp table.

>You're a dipshit. Perils of the warp is meant to represent the warp itself deciding to skull fuck you this day. Most of the time a simple LD check and nothing happens.
See, ignorant retardation in-line with the antics of a deliberately dystopian hellhole.

4/6 perils results cause a wound with no saves allowed. 2/6 always cause a wound AND do something else bad. 1/6 forces a leadership check to not immediately die AND cause additional wounds to your unit. 1/6 does nothing, and 1/6 forces a leadership check and hurts you if you fail and buffs you if you pass it.

Perils suck. The majority of the time it is going to punch your psyker straight in the nads, and the odds of Perils occurring are quite high for anything above WC1.

False equivilence. Nagash was a model built specifically for The End Times. We knew he wouldn't be limited. >In this section you will find a detachment that lets you take a single Ministorum priest, as well as a new detachment for the girls in armor called the “Vestal Task Force”. Which has the ability to give all units in the detachment the ability to reroll any saving throws of 1 once in a game.

>The Inquisitorial Detachment got better: You can only take 1 Inquisitor in this new Inquisitorial Representative detachment, instead of 2. But you still get the 0-3 elite slots, and a cool new command benefit which lets your Inquisitor generate a warlord trait even if they’re not your warlord. Nice!
>One special issue wargear seems to be missing. Servo-Skulls are nowhere to be found on any of the Inquistor’s profiles, or in the SI wargear section. This is huge, and will effect the meta the most.

The eldar jetbike, by admission of the sculptor himself all the way back when it was first 'leaked' was not the fucking sculpt. I was a test sculpt done for a potential redesign that never happened.
Which is why GW had it on open display at the games day in question.
As part of a larger display showing off other unused test sculpts and stuff the sculptor did in his free time.

The actual modern jetbike was done in CAD much later on.

First I know bugger all about the HH, I only got into 40k this year.
Second, are any holding unique guns or have wargear that is incorrect?
I've already fucked up a few marines and given them incorrect pieces and had several people helpfully point out my mistake in the medium of loud, obnoxious yelling.

The marines are all fine. Plasma/Bolt Pistols and Power Sword/Lightning Claws on the Sarges. Bolters, Melta Guns, Plasma Guns. Missile Launchers and Heavy Bolters on the Marines. The Termines have a Heavy Flamer and standard melee weapons. Multi-Melta Dreadnough.

Prospero has some exotic stuff like the Custodes and SoS that will need different rules, but all the Marine stuff should be fine to use straight out of Codex: Space Marines.

Same. They're absurdly good for how little they cost, and the fact that they work regardless of what Allies tier they're taken at means there's often no reason not to bring a cheap Inquisitor with three skulls. Removing them from the game is a good step.

Heavy Bolters and Autocannons are basically just larger caliber bolters. If they can maintain their boltguns, they can maintain those.

So I play CSM and Necron and I'm thinking on instead of building a manking a "powerful" CSM army, I'm just going to purchase fluffy models and bust my ass paint-wise to make a very good looking thematic army. Lots of conversion, weathering, attention to bases, etc.

I was a really big fan of Death Guard and Emperor's Children for their cult units when playing games, but my love lies with the Iron Warriors. I love their fluff and what they stand for.

So if I'm making a small thematic army, what would be key units to have in order to represent the IW? I'd like to have the army still legal gaming-wise if i were to ever use them, but my goal wouldn't be to win.

>How to fix the Thousand Sons, wall of text incoming, hope you brought your reading glasses

Tzeentch spellcasters no longer have to roll one die on the Discipline of Tzeentch. Discipline of Tzeentch is altered as follows:

Tzeentch's Firestorm gains AP3 and Haywire.
Boon of Mutation is replaced by Warptime, a WC2 blessing which grants the psyker D3 rerolls that can be used for any dice that your or the opponent rolls that directly affects the psyker or his unit.
Breath of Chaos wounds on a 3+ and inflicts a Penetrating Hit on a 5+.

Ahriman gains the "Mastery of Arcane Lore" special rule. This grants him +1 to any attempts to harness Warp Charge. His Staff lets him reroll failed psychic tests in addition to its usual effect.

Exalted Sorcerers gain the ability to set aside 5 Warp Charge to refresh their Lord of the Silver Tower ability and may purchase "Mastery of Arcane Lore" for 25 points. Exalted Sorcerers can purchase bikes, jet packs, and terminator armor and come stock with a Force Weapon.

Sorcerers gain access to all BRB disciplines.

Magnus has a disclaimer added that he should only be used for apocalypse games or other suitably large/narrative conflicts.
>>
>>50628589
Rubric Marines are altered as follows:
The Aspiring Sorcerer is removed.
Rubricae are dropped to 22 points per model and lose Slow and Purposeful.
Rubricae gain the "As the Sorcerer Commands" special rule. This grants them the Relentless special rule while within 9" of a psyker from a friendly Thousand Sons detachment. While there is no psyker from a Thousand Sons detachment within 9", they instead gain the Slow and Purposeful special rule and may only fire on units within 3d6", rolled at the beginning of each shooting phase for each unit with ATSC. Psykers from a Thousand Sons detachment auto-pass LoS rolls while in a unit containing models with ATSC, but any wounds Looked Out For must be allocated to a model with ATSC.
One model in the unit may be replaced by a Sorcerer with the Mark of Tzeentch for 40 points. This model loses the Independent Character special rule while there are still members of his unit alive.
Warpflamers are 5 PPM. Heavy Warpflamers and Soulreaper Cannons are available to 1 in every 5 models for 25 points.

Scarab Occult are altered as follows:
The unit renamed "Rubric Terminators."
The Scarab Occult Sorcerer is removed.
Scarab Occult Terminators are renamed Rubric Terminators.
Rubric Terminators have the As the Sorcerer Commands special rule.
Rubric Terminators are armed with Force Weapons, which may be replaced with Power Fists for 5 PPM or Chainfists for 10 PPM.
One model in the unit may be replaced by a Sorcerer with the Mark of Tzeentch and Terminator Armor for 40 points. This model loses the Independent Character special rule while there are still members of his unit alive.

Thousand Sons Dreadnought is added. It starts identical to Helbrute but without crazed. It may be upgraded to a Contemptor for 65 points. It must take one of the following upgrades:
Rubricae for 25 points- The Dreadnought gains a 5++ Invulnerable save (4++ for a Contemptor). It ignores Shaken and Stunned while within 9" of a Thousand Sons psyker, but, if outside 9" of a Thousand Sons psyker, it can only move d6" per turn and have a maximum range of 3d6."
Sorcerer for 50 points- The Dreadnought gains a 6++ Invulnerable Save (5++ for a Contemptor) and the Psychic Pilot (Mastery Level 2) rule. It generates its powers from the same list as every other Thousand Sons psyker.

Thousand Sons Detachment rules are altered as follows:
Blessing of Tzeentch instead grants every model with VotLW a 6+ Invulnerable save.
The Servants of Sorcerers special rule is added. All Characters without the Psyker special rule may purchase it for 15 points, generating their power from either Tzeentch or Divination. Sorcerers or Exalted Sorcerers may taken in place of Chaos Lords, Warpsmiths, or Dark Apostles for the purposes of any formation or detachment requirements. (Exalted) Sorcerers taken in place of Warpsmiths must generate at least half of their powers rounded up from the Heretech or Telekinesis discipline. (Exalted) Sorcerers taken in place of Dark Apostles must take at least half of their powers rounded up from the Sinistrum or Telepathy discipline.

Grand Coven rules are altered as follows:
War Cabal is replaced by Rubricae Phalanx.
Chaos Warband is added as a core choice.
Ahriman's Exiles is removed entirely.
Daemons Engines is replaced by the Hellforged Warpack and Helldrake Terror Squadron formations.
Legion Armoury is replaced by Fist of the Gods formation.
The Lost and the Damned is added as an auxiliary choice.
Renegade Servants is added as a non-formation auxiliary choice (1-3 Chaos Space Marines, 0-1 Havocs, 0-1 Raptors or Chaos Bikers, 0-1 Chosen or Chaos Terminators).
Sekhmet Conclave is moved to Command.
Flesh-bound Neverborn is added an Auxiliary Choice
Favor of Tzeentch is removed from all formations except for the Tzaangor Warherd, where it is always active.

Rubricae Phalanx (2-9 Rubricae squads, 1-9 Rubricae Terminator squads, 0-3 Thousand Sons Dreadnoughts, 1 Sorcerer or Exalted Sorcerer, 0-9 Sorcerers) has the following command benefits:
Bonded Guardians- Units from this formation with ATSC reroll failed saving throws of a 1 if a Thousand Sons psyker in their unit successfully manifest a power this turn. Thousand Sons Rubricae dreadnoughts instead reroll all failed saving throws if in base contact with a Thousand Sons Sorcerer dreadnought that manifested a power.
Astral Beacons- Units from this formation with ATSC reroll To Hit and To Wound rolls of a 1 when firing at a unit that suffered one or more unsaved wounds or lost lost one or more hull points as a result of a Witchfire spell this turn.

I agree with you in principle, although Magnus will have a far more warping effect on a game/the meta than a Knight or two.

War Coven has the following changes:
Ahriman may be taken in place of the "HQ Sorcerer." The formation is reduced to 1 "HQ Sorcerer" and 2-9 regular or Exalted Sorcerers.
Prosperine Cults is instead chosen on a model-to-model basis. The model is restricted to rolling at least half, rounding up, of their powers on their cult list but rolls twice and chooses one for each power rolled on their cult discipline. In addition, they automatically know the Primaris power from their cult. Ahriman always has the Corvidae cult if chosen as part of this formation.

Sekhmet Conclave (changed to 1-3 Rubricae Terminator Squads, 0-1 Magnus or Ahriman) has the following changes:
Restriction: This formation may ONLY be chosen as part of a Grand Coven detachment.
Remains of the First: All Rubricae Terminators chosen as part of this formation cost an additional 15 points per model. The unit has the Brotherhood of Sorcerers (Mastery Level 2) special rule. Instead of the normal amount, they generate 1 Warp Charge per Rubric Terminator in the unit. No member of the unit may be upgraded to a Sorcerer. They may generate their powers from any discipline normally allowed to them, however the Warp Charge cost of any Blessing that targets the Psyker specifically is increased by 3.
Echoes of Excellence: If Magnus is chosen as part of this formation, he and all Rubricae Terminators in the formation gain +1 Strength and Toughness. If Ahriman is chosen as part of this formation, he and all of the Rubricae Terminators in the formation gain +1 WS, +1 BS, +1 Attacks, and +1 to their Invulnerable Save.

Flesh-bound Neverborn (3-9 Possessed Squads and 1 Sorcerer or Exalted Sorcerer or Daemon Prince) has the following benefits:
Horrors Given Form: Instead of rolling on the Vessels of Chaos table, Flesh-bound Neverborn roll on the following table at the beginning of each turn. If you wish, the psyker leading the formation may sacrifice one non-Force spell he knows to permanently fix the Possessed on the die they rolled that turn.
1- The Possessed gain the Jump unit type and have AP2 in close combat.
2- The Possessed gain the Jump unit type gain the Brotherhood of Sorcerer (Mastery Level 1) special rule. They know all the powers of the Pyromancy discipline.
3- The Possessed gain the Brotherhood of Sorcerer (Mastery Level 2) special rule. They know all the powers of the Tzeentch discipline.

Thousand Sons relics are altered as follows:
Scrolls of Magnus is included in a separate box with an updated profile for Codex: Chaos Space marines. It now costs 30 points. It allows the psyker to choose any power he normally has access to and add it to his known powers, but every time he uses it he suffers an AP2 wound with the ignores cover special rule. The power must be chosen during list construction.

Helm of the Third Eye (now 25 points) instead allows the unit to Overwatch at BS2 and reduces the Warp Charge cost of Prescience by 1 for the bearer.

Staff of Arcane Compulsion (now 25 points) also lets you reroll to wound and armor penetration for all hits inflicted by the Telekinesis discipline.

Athenean Scrolls (now 25 points) also force your opponent to suffer a -1 Leadership penalty to all checks caused as a result of Telepathy powers cast by the bearer, including Shriek.

Coruscator (now 25 points) gains the following effects depending on the number of Pyromancy powers manifested by the bearer that turn:
1- range increased to 18"
2- Ignores cover gained
3- Strength increased by 1, AP decreased by 1
4- Becomes a template weapon with Torrent

Writhing Staff (25 points) added. Melee weapon, S: User, AP:3, gains D3 additional attacks per Biomancy power manifested by the bearer that turn. The bearer suffers a 3 S:3 rending hits for each 1 rolled for attacks gained.

Boom, TS are worth their points. I've almost been wondering if the design studio's been playing the game like this, given they felt TS points costs were fine as they are.

Motivation will come and go I guess. I feel the same way. Sometimes I love painting, and other times I see my models on the work table, think "I should get to painting them," and then go back to whatever else I was doing.

Also, sometimes if you just force yourself to start you'll get going and end up painting more than you originally intended.

The new edition will make the game more shooty, and less psychic/charge based.

Nids will recieve a codex that makes them completely reliant on charging and psychic powers.

Every nid now has a personality. The smaller ones are basically retarded, but the bigger more important ones are almost whole. However during their long sleep from the other galaxy some of them have woken up a little senile. This leads to crazy hi-jinks. Also they now use the webway.

Is it okay to prime in cold weather? It's in the high 30s here in Texas and I want to prime my Kastelan rowbutts so I can paint them so I won't be that guy with unprimed/unpainted models.

Just know that in-universe it's seen as a mark of prestige to have a full set of older armor, as it's usually better than the newer stuff.

Older and/or richer chapters would have more suits like those.
