Read the imperial infantryman's uplifting primer, and nothing else. Everything else is just gonna mess with you and lead you astray. Seriously it'll tell you have to beat everything, from close combat with orks to how to properly ambush chaos marines. You can download a pdf of it in the 40k general.

My suggestion for maximum Fun either an Incinarant priest or an ogryn gun lugger the priest is my favorite whenever I see an enemy I scream for the Emperor and charge it the only problem with this strategy is in the Tank commander in an armoured regiment and I leap out the tank to do this
