It's alright to use the oldest Archaon with the old Archaon rules because they both have the same mount, unlike the newest Archaon. None of the three Nagashes has a mount.
>>
Hey anons, can I get some help with my Bretonnians? I have a game tomorrow against some Clan Pestilens that I've been having trouble beating. Here is my list:

2000 Points

King Louey: 400 (Leader)

Damsel: 100 (Leader, Horse)

Paladin Standard Bearer(Leader, Phoenix Stone)

Knights of the Realm: 440 (16 models, Battleline, Banner, Musician)

Knights Errant: 200 (8 models, Battleline, Banner, Musician)

Men-at-arms: 120 (16 models, Battleline, Banner, Musician, Relic)

Grail Knights: 180 (5 models, Banner, Musician)

Peasant Bowmen: 400 (32 models, Banner, Musician, Braziers, Stakes)
>>
What do you think of these battle traits for the armies that had battletomes before the GHB came out

Stormcast:
Lightning Strike
Instead of setting up a unit from your army on the battlefield, you can place it to one side and say that it is set up in the Celestial Realm. In any of your movement phases you can transport the unit to the battlefield. When you do so, set it up on the battlefield more than 12" from enemy models. This is its move for that movement phase.

Seraphon:
Celestial Insight
In your hero phase roll 6 dice. If you have a Slann you can re-roll these results. For each roll of 4 or higher, gain an Insight into the future. Each Insight can be used to re-roll any single dice before your next hero phase.

Khorne Bloodbound: Bloodlust
All units in this army must charge if there is an enemy unit within 12", even if they ran in the previous movement phase.

Tomb Kings: Hierophant
One Liche Priest in your army can be upgraded to a Hierophant. A Hierophant can cast 1 more spell per turn and adds 1 to their casting and unbinding rolls.
>>
>>50521086
Go for either formation. This list is ok, just remember that the charge is the most important part of playing Bretonnians. Consider a trebuchet as well. There is nothing wrong with 48 inch range, auto hitting anything with more than 6 models.

I see some issues with these but i like your thinking, i really cant wait for GW to update allt he battletomes.

>Stormcast
A lot of the battalions grant Lightning strike, sso this seems like a bit of a waste. I see where this would be useful but I dont think its really enough. How about units that lightning strike within 3" of a friendly SC hero are imbued with Azyric Lightning. Those units may reroll hit and wounds of 1 the turn they strike?

>Seraphon
I like it because I like seraphon, but i feel like that might be a bit strong. Im not sure what I would change it for however, I always thought the slann giving orders like 40k's Imperial guard would be cool.

>KBB
Awesome, i really like this one

>Tomb Kings
Havent played any tomb kings but this sounds quite powerful.

I really want skaven to get their update

Skaven: Kill-Kill EVERYTHINGS!

All skaven units can re-roll 1 dice per turn, however if the re-roll result is the same as the original roll, that unit suffers d3 mortal wounds.

Of course the first Advent story is Khorne
>>
>>50520074
Im guessing after the initial poor release AoS is picking up? Seems ok after seeing a few threads.

Are night goblins and fanatics/squigs still in and do they play any part in fluff or is it all about Orruks now?
>>
>>50525131
I feel like SC *really* need that general deepstrike, since the batallions that commonly have it are fairly limiting.
If I had a say, I'd replace the deepstrike of the formations with some other buff, like "reroll 3d6, discard lowest to charge", and make the regular Lighning Strike the first allegiance ability.
Also, Extremis allegiance makes Dracothian Guard Battleline.
>>
>>50525870
Night goblins are still around (and quite nasty); they're called Moonclan now, but are otherwise the same as they've always been. No real focus on them yet, but it's bound to happen eventually.

>>50526013
That's only one subfaction, basically Black Orcs expanded out to be an entire army. For exmaple Savage Orcs, Bonesplitterz Orruks now, look the same.
>>
>>50526013
Normal Orcs (Orruks) are still playable, and more balanced than Ironjawz. While not as strong in melee or as 'ard, they are cheaper and have more versatility (ie, they actually have ranged options).
>>
>>50523283
If you play with the big TK battallion, you get a hierophant though.
>>
>>50520609
What subscription fee?
>>
So what goes into a decent seraphon list? I was thinking a solid core of guard, how many would I need in 2k?
>>
I've not been following AoS for the last month or so due to excessive overtime and hype over beautiful new Thousand Sons models

Is there any indication that the four new Battle Force boxes will have matched play ready warscroll battalions with points values? Otherwise it's going to be tough to find a place for the Gargant in an Ironjawz list without adding another faction for battle line units.

If not maybe Generals Handbook V2 will include points values for the start collecting and battle force battalions.
>>
>>50527701
Maybe, but matched play is not everything, and I think GW is using box battallions to remind people of that.
>>
>>50527701
I'm actually really hoping its a formation with the points cost listed on it. It is really weird tthat there is a gargant in there, becuase its an awesome box otherwise.

Remember we're like at least a year or more off GBH V2.
>>
>>50527885
Yeah I still enjoy pickup games with Freeplay, and I would love to do a narrative campaign, but the GH bonuses for matched play are so helpful for my Iron jaws who knows maybe the Thunderfist will make up for the loss of Rampaging Destroyer.

I'll probably still tell my wife to get one for me for Christmas. The value is too good to pass on. And I think it would be fun to nail some dented up scraps of armor to a Gargant to bring him more in line with the rest of the range.

AoS is specifically targeted at children, so no.
>>

Liberators yes, retributors no. Their feet overhang.

However because most events and people are about measuring base2base, you may want to keep them all on the 40mm they come with or it would be considered modeling for advantage

Well, what more do you want? Sexy vampire chicks being naked is not an uncommon thing in fantasy novels, you should know this.
And if it's about the beastman rape, that's literally the scene. A champion of Slaanesh rapes a defeated beastman. If you want any more out of that, you might as well read the fucking story yourself.
>>
>>50540709
I was mostly curious about the context for the rape thing.

Since:
>And then Hedonius, Lord of Slaanesh, raped a beastmen.

sounds like a non sequitur.

And for Neferata, is it like detailed or just mentioned of hand. I'm not looking for fap-bait mostly curious about the tone of the scene.

Guys what rules would you give to a homemade Herdstone for beastmen?

Personally I would like to think that it boosts the bravery by one for each Brayherd and Warherd unit within 18" of it, and Great Bray Shamans can re-roll the "Savage Dominion" spell if they are within 6"

Is it balanced, do you guys have any better ideas for it?

Gets hurt pretty hard by mortal wounds.
Death armies can stack those up pretty fast.
Mortis engine gets off a good reliquary and you can lose half your army.
Also, Astrolith should be in summon reserve, so you can put it where you need it. Probably want the salamanders and razordons there too, as you probably only want one or the other, so you can just have 180 pts in reserve and put them where you want.
>>
>>50547273
>Hurt hard by mortal wounds

Welcome to Seraphon bruh.

My one problem with the army is that its super durable, to regular wounds only. Theres almost no resistance to mortal wounds. At least other shield bearing units get that 6+.
>>
>>50547474
skinks my friend, skinks.
They're great screeners.
Take that mortis engine, it's going to use a charget to get into range of you main body for the relique hero phase (double turns are a bugger here, but even without). Hits a line of skinks first, and it's needing a bigger roll to get to your guys.

Try to get a flier around to snip your heroes, bury them in skinks.

those nasty flier with Rend-2 and Damage 3, skinks.

They won't deal much damage, but often your opponent needs to attack them first or they wander off to block again, meaning you get first attack with your actual hitters.

for 80pts they cover a lot of area.

My advide for that list is drop the handlers (nice but not that great), salamanders, razordons, and astrolith bearer, get 500 pts.
160 for 2 units of skinks, the rest for summoning, bring out what you want of those things you cut where you need them.

Also, possibly put two of those saurus guards together, having too many small units can be a downside.
>>
What was the name of AoS Kill Team rules equivalent?
>>
>>50548208
>>
>>50547273
I don't know if you have ever seen a Kroak+Vortex list but it's legitimately overpowered.

Unless they are using hellcannons they can't kill Kroak on a vortex. Even against heavy artillery Kroak can snipe the crew. Against Hellcannons you can force them to reroll successful hits and then reroll damage rolls that do get through.

With a Starseer and Kroaks command ability you are very likely to get two turns in a row at some point, letting you get magic phases in a row and snipe most heroes while putting serious damage on the rest of their army.

Kroak + Vortex is absolute filth - it is definitely the army to beat right now.
>>
>>50547273
With Kroak you don't want to waste any spells on casting summons, so you deploy everything on the board. You bring a mix of Razordons and Salamanders because they are good at different things and you don't know what to expect.

It's important that the Astrolith Bearer starts deployed so you can get a guaranteed +1 to casting Balewind Vortex (+2 if you start near Arcane terrain) and you can use Curse of Fates from a Starseer and Insight dice to make it even more reliable.

What are some good and "fun" ideas for the Gnarlroot Grove's Order Wizard choice for a Syvaneth army?

>Sisters of Thorn, useful spell, beautiful AF models, very much in theme with sylvaneth

Not certain but it's almost definitely a regular Treelord sprue so you should be able to make a Treelord, Ancient, or Durthu
>>
>>50549196

okay, I get that. I tried tournaments, but too much time and stress for me to enjoy myself most of the time.

Adeptus titanicus and epic stuff is slated to come early 2017, but then after that they are thinking of looking into necromunda or mordheim.

I don't know about you guys, but I hope mordheim is set in the mortal realms. That's just me though. I think there's a lot of potential for it to be here. Bloodbowl didn't need to be mortal realms because old BB was technically a separate universe from whfb. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with regardless.

Just started with a slaves to darkness army with some beastmen support. But I didn't really know what to equip my Gors with I was thinking on doing half with 2 weapons and the other half with a weapon and shield. What do you guys think is best?
>>
>>50558225
go with whatever you think looks best

gors are 80 points per 10 for a 5+ that goes up to 4+ in the combat phase only.

The wording is really unclear if two gor blades give two attacks or just the reroll, though I assume it is just the reroll.

Looking at the warscroll I see gors as a premium priced middle ground between Marauders (a cheap defensive Slaves to Darkness unit without much killing power) and Bloodreavers (a cheap very offensive, but very fragile, Khorne Bloodbound unit). They are a unit capable of both offense and defense as the situation requires, but doesn't excel at either. A flexible and maybe forgiving unit so long as you have a way to get around their bravery of 5.

I don't think the dual blades really give them much over the shields, while the defensive bonus from the shields is pretty nice against stuff in the combat phase.

Can't mix weapons for Gors, weapons for them are decided on a per-unit basis.
Which isn't much of a problem, since shields are straight-up the better option.
Don't rely on them for much of anything, but at least they are pretty fast and can jam up some charges where needed.
It's a shame they don't get spears...

>>50558398

you can have a unit with blades, and a unit with shields, but they will always be two units and never act as one, or count as a larger unit for any bonuses.

Some words from Josh Reynolds about the book he is currently writing for Age of Sigmar :

"One of the common criticisms levelled at this particular setting has been its relative lack of depth. We know who the factions are, and why they’re fighting, but not what they’re fighting for. Who and what are the various factions seeking to protect, conquer or devour? Now, anyone who’s read the various tie-in novels, audios and short stories related to the setting probably already has some idea as to the answer to that question.

But with this book, I’m getting the opportunity to really dig into HOW the realms work, and how a city in the Age of Sigmar might function. You want to know what people (and Skaven) eat? Got you covered. Want to know how the sewers work? Weird, but okay. Who patrols the walls? How do they brew beer? What’s a slum like in the Age of Sigmar (short answer: awful)? Where do the rich folks live? What sort of temples do they have? Where do all these people come from, if the armies of the dark gods are constantly attacking? These are all questions I’m hoping to answer. Satisfactorily, if not in detail.

More than that, I’m getting to explore how the various cultures of the mortal realms might interact – can the scion of a noble house of the Celestial Realm get along with a hard-bitten sellsword from the Realm of Metal? What does a librarian in the Realm of Beasts look like? What about a demigryph knight from the Realm of Life?"

The idea I have in the kitty if I make a Death army is to make a Necromancer-led skelly army, with a scratchbuilt Bone Giant using the Tomb Kings Compendium as the centrepiece. The rules for it are actually pretty tasty, especially with the fact they give a buff spell to Death Wizards.

I'm about to get into Age of Sigmar and have hit a stumbling block on the army to pick. I love the look of both Bloodbound and Ironjawz, but hate that the Bloodbound look to be a horde army (or rather you get tons of Reavers with the starter and new battleforce) - I really cannot face painting up 40+ Reavers.

Ironjawz on the other hand would require painting much fewer models, and I have always had a soft spot for greenskins. Sorely tempted by them, but Bloodbound seem a bit more fleshed out - they have a lot more character models and an easy way to pick most of them up (Gorechosen).

What do you like, anon? It sounds like you want an elite force.

Ironjawz are a good choice, but you'll still be using 'ard Boyz as bulked-out units.

Don't forget you can mix and match stuff in other armies. Look into the rules of some of the Bloodbound units and you can synergise them with the Chaos Warriors, Knights etc with Khorne devotion.

If there's a concept you'd want ask about it here and we'll help work it out for you.
>>
>>50568493
Season 2 is probably about the rest of the Allgates. So Light, Shadow, and Death. So Aelves are coming.
>>
>>50568455
Good job. We could have ignored him, but no, you had to take the bait.

How long until Clan Skyre moves out of metal and into plastic? Or gets a start collecting?

What army should I look into starting up if i want to have strong units but low model count if at all possible?

There is a rumour floating around that there may be an undead army coming sometime either after christmas or before or a little bit after new years.

Shouldn't you hate this?
>age of sigmar
Released in 2015
>and WOW literally was initially going to be a warhammer game before a contract dispute scuttled the authorization to use GW intellectual property.
And that's why GW renamed Asur into Highborne?
>>
>>50570933
Highborn was a placeholder name. The aelves are all renamed into seperate factions now.
>>
>>50570704
Anything ogors. Trolls (not legal by themselves). Storm cast. Kbb with no reavers
>>
I'm very, very new to the hobby, so apologies if this is a stupid question. I was looking for used models on eBay (as many recommend to save $$$) and found some old GW models from a Warhammer board game for quite cheap. Is it kosher to use Battle Master Chaos Warriors to play Age of Sigmar? I imagine my LGS probably wouldn't care too much, but if I walked into a GW store, would they look at me like I have two heads / kick me out?
>>
>>50570980

So what?

You mean unplayable support-armies? But there is still 3 not-elves nations/people.

Ignore this ever-so-edgy guy. You probably won't get much luck in most stores (unless the manager is really chill). If it's still the route you wanna take, look into a non-GW FLGS (friendly local games shop) and they'll accommodate you quite easily.

That's what I figured. Thanks anon. One of the LGSes I plan on playing at doesn't care about proxy models and such, but an official GW store opened up, so I figured I'd see if I could loophole a "legit" army on the cheap. Oh well.

He is a moron. There is nothing that you can say to convince him he is wrong, and he is going to try his hardest to show convince us that AoS is some "wow ripoff" like his life depends on it. Artifacts, command traits, battle traits, and arcane treasures didn't exist before the Generals Handbook.

The only battletomes published since the GHB are Sylvaneth, Beastclaw Raiders, and Bonesplitterz.
>>
>>50563422
The only reason I can see is that Order had enough Start Collecting boxes already.

Seraphon was already published and they put out Sylvaneth and Stormcast at once - putting out a 4th Order SC probably would have cut out production time from making a SC for the other grand alliances.
>>
>>50565168
Drycha doesn't really combo with anything.

You use her to either:
1. teleport her to one side of the board to hit the entire enemy army with Flitterfuries
2. use her squirmlings to decimate any unit of 5+ models.
>>

why do people keep falling for the blizzdrone bait

>>50571016
a GW store would give you funny looks I guess. Battle Masters models are very old and don't look so hot.

Check ebay for Chaos Warriors stuff, or if you have to buy new, chaos warriors are actually one of the cheaper factions. Your luck might be mixed on this as Chaos Warriors were one of the factions to have their prices reduced by GW. Lots of people still base their auctions on the old prices.

Chaos knights iirc were 35 dollars for 5 before, now they they 60 dollars for 10. Ten chaos knights is 400 points already.

Battleforce: Sylvaneth Darkroot Wargrove any info about rules?

>>50575011
>So spireguard, would that mean we might see a return of the Lothern Seaguard?
Nope, the whole model-line is going to be discountinued
>>
>>50575157
But the box includes 'Spireguard' which are just gonna be Lotern Seaguard models. It just seems weird that they'd reintroduce models that they've only recently relegated to 'legacy' status
>>
>>50575186
It really is weird.
I'm putting it down to GW being cheap.
At least there's new elf and skaven stuff, fluffwise.
>>
>>50575256
I've already got two boxes but I wouldn't mind to have the booklets and extra stuff that is included, if it's any good of course. But most likely it won't be any new stuff, maybe some updated Warscrolls/Battallions.
>>
So when will Sigmar get a model?
>>
>>50575437
Never. Sigmar abaddoned his aspect of the Warrior King and adopted his aspect of the God King. He longer wishes ti fight but to guide and direct.

Celestant Prime took Sigmar's place in the field.
>>
Are those supossed to be ranged support that stays back, or should I rush foward with them and use shooting attack as extras?
>>
Anons, sell a 40k anon on AoS
>>
>>50575823
free rules for units, no bullshit formations/decurions, hard to find a faction that is unplayable in compare to others
>>
>>50563121
Nice, that means non-legacy warscrolls for several old units.
Does the text mean that the 'Spireguard' will have the Swifthawk Agent keyword?
Because that would make for a neat army. Blisteringly fast speed from gryphon, skycutters, chariots and reavers, flexible infantry in the form of seaguard and shadows.
>>
>>50575817
Their shooting is kinda shit while they brawl very well, so do the math.
>>
>>50575823
It has a very low barrier to entry while still being just as fun as 40k
>>
>>50575890
That's something I noticed too. If the Swifthawks get the next release, I'll be pleasantly surprised. There are certainly worse options for elf factions out there, and I think the SAs are an interesting faction from what little I can remember.

The Spireguard are the biggest surprise atm, but let's not get our hopes up it might just be a rename, an updated warscroll and that's it. The Silver Tower heroes didnt contain any keywords either.

I have some questions regarding chaos Marauders; if I I have flails on them, can I still place shields on them? Or am I not allowed to since they carry a two hands weapon
>>
>>50577065
The warscroll is very clear about this; flails and shields are prefectly legal.
>>
>>50576960
>>50576946
Mind you 1d4Chan is horribly biased and inaccurate sometimes. The tacticas are sometimes written by people who don't even play the armies
>>
>>50577096
Just wanted to double check before assembling them myself. I also didn't see any models on GW's site that carried both flail + shield.
>>
>>50577103
That's true.

Also, a good portion of the stuff was written before the point system.

I would like to encourage people to expand and correct the wiki if they see that you faction guide is old and inaccurate.
>>
>>50577151
That sounds suspiciously like it'd involve effort, so no thanks.
But somebody should take a look at the Beastclaw entry, it's new and mostly awful.
>>
>>50563370
Pretty sure thats something to do with the fact that the army is all new models, all the SC boxes have old kits in them that otherwise hadnt been selling well.

The exception is ofc SC and KBB, who also have cheaper models available in other boxes.

Simpler rules without significant loss of tactical complexity, refreshing change to the playstyle, everything >>50575847 said, toned down magic, TON of variety, very few totally shit/trap unitts, basic freedom to play whatever kind of army you want, emphasis on themed armies, lot of support for multiple types of play, including competitive and narrative.

Downsides IMO is that I think most of the scenarios are shit, and prefer to use the maelstom of war missions from 40k. I also miss chracter customization, designing my characters loadout the way I want for a particular goal.

Minor things I know, but they matter to me. AoS and 30k basically left 40k in the dust for me, 40k is a blaoted mess.

>>50576003
People took them too seriously when the devs didnt when they wrote them into the stand-in compendiums. Theres literally none of that anymore.
>>
>>50577598
Chill nigga. Let me rephrase, theyre all older kits, typically designed to be ranked up witth few poses, that if given the choice between them for 40e vs something new and shiny, most people will pick the new and shiny ones.

Examples:
>Saurus warriors and knights,
>Orc boys/chariots/boar boys
>Black orcs
>Chaos warriors and knights

Shit you probably wouldnt want to drop cash on but are more than happy to get for a good deal. Like whos going to buy the monopse chaos warriors when you can get the blood warriors?

Better rules for shooting and charging

Better force organization with unit synergies

Formations cost rules

No free units, everything summoned into play costs points

Better rules for magic

Free rules

All factions good in their own way, no objectively bad models in the game
>>
When are they going to fix the setting?
>>
>>50579332
The new josh reynolds novel gives me some hope for in improvement:

>>
>>50576946
I can give you a quick primer as a competitive AOS player

Order

Seraphon: A little bit above average at everything, but not amazing at anything. Reroll everything (including your opponents dice). Tons of options. Big dinosaurs and some of the best artillery but it is short range. Objectively the strongest army in the competitive meta with Kroak + Vortex filth.

Sylvaneth - Great defensive army, but low movement. Can spawn forest all over the map and then teleport to that forest. High variety in list building.

Stormcast - Low model count, above average saves and damage. Low movement but lots of teleport gimmicks. Very powerful when mixed with Order wizards.

High Elves - Wizards and phoenixes make a very powerful turtle list. Hunker down with bolt throwers and whittle your opponent down. They can't kill your 0+ save phoenixes with 4+ to ignore wounds, eventually you just win.

Dark Elves - Frail and average damage, but very fast. Not viable in competitive because other armies do the same thing but better. Wait for Malerion to make them great again.

Wood Elves - High Elves do it better.

Dwarves - Good saves and good melee, but far too slow. Need to mix in artillery from Ironweld Arsenal, but vulnerable to being outflanked by fast armies or teleporting units.

Freeguild - Like Dwarves with worse melee, but better shooting. Gunline lists are nothing but a bad meme, very easy to counter. Fun to play, but poor saves and low bravery make them fragile and prone to running away.

Fyreslayers - Low movement, but good saves and decent melee. Not viable on their own, need to mix in some artillery from Ironweld Arsenal. Vulnerable to being flanked by fast armies.
