Do people actually do this? I thought that they were there for people to cut into them in case they needed the extra slot.

You might do it temporarily to photograph a model that needs a slottabase to stand up, but would require gluing, bending, or cutting to fit in the slot right-side up. Once you're done taking the picture, just disassemble your setup and put da extra fingz back in yer bitzbox.

i can see it being useful for doing things like adding a pool of water at the feet of your mini without having to build up extra height.
