>Don't use any spell, effect, option or combo that you're not willing to see used against you.

>Ignore XP penalties for multi-classing.

>Fucking tons of other houserules depending on which of our DMs is running.
Mine for the game I've been running.
>Magic out in space functions only barely with a -15 CL penalty.

>Lower-magic Gunpowder setting.
Starting after 3rd lvl, you must multi-class out of your base casting class every third level, or take a PrC which doesn't advance the casting more than two levels in a row.
Guns are martial weapons.

>Weeaboo Fightan Magic Game.
Gestalt, one side of the two must be a full, base martial adept. No Leadership.

>Demonic post-apoc.
Gestalt, humans get +1 to all stats, non-humans get +1 to all physical stats due to survival of the fittest.

>Samurai Fix
It's a pretty tall order without a significant overhaul, especially considering that it treats giving you TWF feats several BAB later than you should pick it up as Class Features.

You'd be better served by using PHB2's Knight class.

That said
>Daisho Training remains as it was.
>Move Two Swords as One to 1st, Improved at 6th, Greater at 11th and Superior for an extra at 16th levels.

Kiai Smite moved to 2nd level, +1 use of it per day at 5th level and every 3 levels after (8, 11, 14, 17, 20). Instead of a single attack, each use selects a single enemy and grants Charisma modifier to hit and damage against them for all attacks made until either a different target is selected (using another per day) or the first target is slain.

Improved Initiative at 3rd level.

Staredown at 4th level, adding 1/2 your Samurai Class Level to Intimidate checks.

Keep Iaijutsu Master at 5th. Improve it at 10th and 15th level by allowing it to be used with 1 other exotic (preferably eastern) weapon each time.

Mass Staredown at 7th level: As norma Staredown, but with 1/4th level added to the check in return for being able to affect all enemy targets within 30ft radius of yourself.

Lordship: At 9th level a Samurai is granted the Leadership feat. Their Cohort may be of any non-magical class, but their followers will all be NPC classes, usually either Experts or Warriors at their call. They may be called upon to serve, but are usually expected to be guarding the Samurai's titled lands and or holdings (Using Profession checks to generate income on their leader's behalf, and adding the Samurai's level to the skill check if they do so, and yielding their full skill check in GP rather than 1/2 as normal for a Profession skill check.)

Way of the Warrior: Starting at 10th level, and every three levels after, a Samurai may select one Martial Stance from the Tome of Battle to learn and use in battle, using their Samurai level as their effective Initiator level to determine which stances are available and any IL dependent effects.

At 12th level, Greater Mass Staredown. AOE uses of Staredown now gain 1/2 Samurai level as a bonus to the Intimidate check, and may affect foes out to 60ft. If an enemy within 20ft of the Samurai using this ability is immune to fear, that immunity is suppressed for 1d4 rounds upon a successful check.

One who Serves. At 13th level, so long as the Samurai is acting on behalf of a lord who they have sworn fealty to, or acting upon an oath to which their honor is beholden, they add their Charisma Modifier to their saving throws, and half that value as an Axiomatic bonus to their AC so long as they are armed and not helpless.

Paragon of Discipline: The Samurai's resolve has sharpened his senses and perceptions just as his sword must be maintained: At 17th level a Samurai may add his Charisma modifier on all Wisdom based skills. Additionally, when dealing with fellow warriors, warlords, soldiers and sovereigns of any sort, they may add their Base Attack Bonus to Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate and Sense Motive checks.

At 18th level the Samurai's presence is palpable to all who would strike at him through underhanded or dishonorable means. Once per round as an immediate action, the Samurai may ward off one ranged attack, an attack against which they are flat-footed, or an enemy's spell cast against them, rolling an intimidate check against such foes. The Samurai need not be aware of the attack to react as such. The Intimidate check is used as a replacement for their AC in dealing with dishonorable attacks (Ranged, flat-footed, unawares, etc) or opposed by a Concentration check when used against an enemy spellcaster attempting to cast a spell upon the Samurai. Failure on the check means the caster was distracted and has wasted the spell-slot.

Swift Staredown: With but a glance, a Samurai can display killing intent. Mass Staredown takes only a Swift action starting at 19th level.

Frightful Presence still at 20th. Change the DC from 20+Cha to 1/2 Samurai Level+Charisma Modifier. Raise the Panic HD range from 1 to 10HD, and the Shaken HD range from 5 to 19 up to 11 and above with no cap. Creatures subject to this who are immune to fear effects are not automatically subjected to it, but will need to roll against it should the Samurai's Mass Staredown suppress their fear immunity.

Mind you I don't think this is a perfect fix. It still leaves the Samurai vulnerable to a lot of things, and still leaves them as a Martial Warrior in Caster edition, but the important goals for this sort of fix are
>Can it do its job now?
>Can it be made fun to play?
>Is it able to work well as part of the party?

The above changes take a class that was scarcely more than BAB and some fancy swords and gives it more tools to change the combat field (Better intimidate tools, of which there are feats to further improve and play with. Martial Stances can give a lot of utility once they're available, and you can pick based on your character's concept and playstyle to support and augment it, and it would be safe to start this at 6th level rather than 10th, that was just where it needed something more than "Quick draw with an exotic weapon" for a level.)

>is it fun?
Maybe. This is all of the cuff so I haven't tried any of this yet but I figure it's a step up from Fighter at least and maybe up along with Barbarian or PHB Ranger in terms of the kind of tools and tricks available for it. If nothing else the potential for free money from Lordship should give you something to work with, as well as giving your DM a way to reward players that handle their NPC relationships well and drop plot hooks into your lap if things get slow.

>Party Cooperation.
AOE debuffing martial front-liner, what's not to like? It's not a role that can't be met with other classes, but the above fix looks to be a niche method of accomplishing it I hope. The anti-fear-immunity starting at 12th in particular works well to help the spooky bard or illusionist stay in the fight later even if they don't go Dread Witch or the like.

Uh, which Samurai? The Complete Warrior Samurai or the Oriental Adventures Samurai?

Because one of those is just a fighter with fewer feats, more skill points, the iajutsu skill, and basically the Ancestral Relic feat as a class feature.

Wait forgot that in the Dragon Magazine 3.5 update to OA they also gained a thing that makes weapons they wield count as Honorable/Lawfully aligned weapons or something.

Obviously the CW Samurai, that's the really terrible one. Also, on topic, try this fix: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?143018-The-Retooled-Samurai-My-heart-it-burns-Such-force-of-will-Such-fighting-spirit!

It's pretty comprehensive and I've found it to be excellent in play.
