They are pretty much Possessed in 30k, fielding them in 40k as anything else will only lead to confusion. And you can't go wrong with that because Gal Vorbak look like the Possessed should, while Possessed themselves...

Gal'vorbak look like they should be multilple wound and actually tough, that said they clearly have armour which Spawn don't

I don't think anyone should mind you using them as Mutilators/Oblits, i can see night-lord versions of these units being slimmer and more agile

Give them jump packs, make them Warp Talons who have gotten a little too unstable with all of their tearing in and out of the warp.

The Gal Vorback monstrous claws are very easy to visually interpret as fleshy versions of Lightning claws

I'd use them as spawn and paint most of their armour to appear fleshlike, get creative with water effects.
If you're good with greenstuff some subtle changes could make the armour more fleshlike by covering joints etc.

You have a point then. Still, you could either convert the shit out of them (which would be a shame since their so cool, if you're not really, really good) to use them as Obliterators, or convert them a little less or not at all and use as Mutilators, but Mutilators are even shitier than Possessed. I can think of no other use for them than one turn distraction deep strike.

This is an idea. Blocky packs from 30k serve the purpuse well.
