A poor fool, tempted by forbidden knowledge, summons a shoggoth into the setting of your choosing
How does it fare?
Keep in mind it's a 10 ton blue collar construction worker capable of driving a man insane by proximity, lest ye head be sucked off.

>Dark Souls
Oh, good. It will fit right in.

Fine, it is a fresh new shoggoth so not smart/powerful enough to break control.

"You have less charisma than a Shoggoth" has now entered my vocabulary of insults.
>>50459173
It'd probably be mistaken for a Spawn of the Dark Watchers. The Unkindlies, or maybe one of the Holy Orders would find it eventually, and observe it for a few months before figuring out a way to kill it. Probably a bomb.

I think that might just make a bunch of small shoggoths. Fire would be more reliable. Or a fire bomb.
>>50462307
Holy shit. The vast majority of people fall into that category.

>capable of driving a man insane by proximity
not really though, the only entity in Lovecraft with the whole 'madness aura' thing going on is cthulhu and maybe Hastur depending on whose canon you believe

>Int 5

Wat

Pretty sure you have less than Int 5 if you can't tell the difference between Int and Cha.

Let's take my setting...
Assuming it isnt enough setting-sawy, he gets a good run for at least 3 months, before one of the following happens:
-an army is organized to bring it down
-he enters a fey forest
-high level adventure party/party join up for fame and glory and bring it down.
-he encounters and messes with an Avatar. (Any avatar but the avatar of courage would mess it up)
>>50459173
Well, I tell him to fix the roads and railways. The present state of the infrastructure already drives people insane, so it can't make things worse.

Discworld.
Shoggoths organise a Guild and become integral part of Ankh-Morpork's construction business.

That, or the Shoggoth is unfortunate enough to chase Rincewind.
It is basically a dungeon dimensions monster, after all.
