Ok, I feel like an asshole here, and feel as if I should know this, but besides linking the Space Marine to the Primarch and Emperor, and also carrying inside them a legacy, what does the gene seed do?

I have one for my Mary sue bullshit chapter. They have amutation to their one brain geneseed organ that allows space Marines to be hypnotized. It makes it impossible to hypno train the chapter but also gives them a greater ability to absorb and perceive information. Thus, they have completely human fears and take much longer to train. However, over time the organ decays further and makes it likely that they succumb to The Fog, where they see conspiracy and patterns in everything. Messages in alphabet soup, assassins in the mailman etc. This isn't necessarily bad at first, because their chapter focuses on subterfuge, information gathering and blackmailing or befriending people into helping them. But, as the super Alzheimer's gets worse over time and can have a sort of snowballing effect until they are obsessed with seeing conspiracy everywhere and will eventually bolt to some safehouse of there's. Being obsessed with information, they begin setting up remote surveillance and trying to horde secrets and secretly recorded conversations and actions, they will also sneak about and attack anyone who sees them. It is at this point that their brothers are forced to put them down.

This unique mutation is typically dealt with by their chapplain, who is trained in a sort of opposite way to his brothers. While they are all made to be gregarious on the surface but calculating, secretive abd suspecting underneath, the chapplain is best described as "chill" his job is to ground his brothers and say "listen, why the fuck would there be secret messages in your soup, you're gonna be ok, just take some deep breaths and quit bein weird." To catch them and pull them down from their flights of fancy.

The betcher's gland has come in handy a ton of times. In particular when a marine is bound or being held by something larger, it's quite an effective grapple escape.

The omophagea is more for long-term missions, where new information and objectives need to be collected and implemented outside the normal chain of command. The reason we don't see it used more often is such missions are not very conducive for making TT scenarios.
>>
>>50438137
Well, gaining memories from the stuff they eat might be useful when trying to adapt to new enviroments atleast. Grab a random critter and munch on it until you know some of what it knows about it's filthy xeno predators and prey (and which kind of legs it likes humping or feces it likes to munch on and other random crap)

Betcher's gland isn't just for spitting acid or storing what ever crap the other digestive organs pump in it. It also helps digesting pretty much everything, which when combined with neuroglottis (or what ever it was called), preomnor, oolitic kidneys and whatnot allow them to digest pretty much anything and sustain themselves by eating everything from trees to Creed's old rubber boots

Exo- and endo- cannibanism in 40k
>why not both.jpg

The chapter used to have ceremonies where they drank the bloods of veterans, and ate the cadavers of fallen brothers during funerals.
It was seen as a way to keep the spirit and experience of the deceased alive, in the heart of his brothers.
As a result, the chapter possess almost no dreadnoughts.

Some companies also ate the flesh of opponents deemed worthy enough.
That custom was at best politely ignored, at worst shunned upon by the rest of the chapter. Nonetheless, it gave indeniable results, battle-brothers partaking in such rituals gaining rare talents and showing incredible tactical acumen when facing the same foes again.
After a while, reports of space-marines showing signs of mental breakdown or corruption forced the chapter master to take a stand and put an end to the practice. A handful of battle(brothers deemed to far gone were purged.

Officially, the marines only eat their own now, though rumors of brothers having survived the purge, mental remnants of corrupted space marine lurking in a corner of the mind long after their consumption, and forbidden rituals in far away companies still persist.
Does it sounds good? Sorry for the poor grammar, my english is rusted.

How about a secretive chapter of astartes tasked with guarding a planet of genetic misfits left over from the 13th cursed founding?
The planet Quasimodo is a sanctuary for a number of aborted successor chapters that were rejected for maladaptive geneseed mutations but allowed to live out the rest of their lives under observation on the off-chance that their unique mutations might potentially become useful.
The guardians of Quasimodo use some of these misfit marines as chapter serfs.
>>
>>50439699

I understand your desire for dovelty, but non-fearless marines is like righteous and lawful Chaos Champions, or merciful dark eldar, or vegen Tyranids. Novelty is good, utter and complete rape of lore basis is not.

>>
>>50441086
Whoops. My bad.

The inhabitants of Quasimodo aren't so catastrophically mutated to pose any threat to the Imperium. Quite the opposite.
One group suffers from narcolepsy.
Another suffers persistent tremors.
Yet another group has problems with memory loss and seizures.
One failed offshoot suffers from an age-regressing geneseed mutation that has transformed them into infants.

The guardians of Quasimodo vacillate between contempt, compassion, revulsion, empathy, shame, and love for their misbegotten brothers.

A chapter where excessive gene-harvesting has all but decimated the gene seed, meaning each marine must be augmented heavily with a unique suite of cyborgal implants based off the disastrous effects of this iteration of the seed.

The chapter has strong numbers, but each marine is nigh soulless due to the implantation of so much circutry. Chapter masters and other high ranking officials are chosen based off of lack of significant mutation. Apothecaries and Tech Marines have been consolidated into one class of marine, serving as mechanic and doctor for the chapter. They are heavily tied to the Admech, and often deploy with them against threats to the ommnisiah.

This makes the chapter unable to use power armor efficiently. Senior battle brothers get mind impulse units which let them link to their armor, but most battle brothers fight equipped like scouts.

>>50438137
The concept of a space marine is a soldier who doesn't sleep, doesn't suffer weakness or infirmity, can't be poisoned or even choked by lack of atmosphere, can see in the dark as well as in broad daylight, can never be disarmed even if you literally cut his arms off (which happens in Space Marine) and can never have his opponents hide their secret weaknesses from him.

It's perfectly in line with that concept.

You might use acid spitting for breaking restraints or just blinding an enemy; you might use brain-eating for all kinds of intelligence gathering purposes. Certainly quicker than interrogation, especially in a galaxy where even humans might not speak any language you could understand.

Sanguinus had wings and so far we've had one attempted clone of Sanguinus that turned out to be a Chaos trap and nearly tore apart the Blood Angels. Guy was fucked over by Sanguinus's own sword, which rebelled against this false Sanguinus. Also, plenty of people called him a mutant, but he was generally such a well-like guy that nobody who wasn't actively at war with him and his legion called him as much.

Bone spikes so far don't correspond to any known Primarch, so it's unlikely to have the Blood Angels go Black Rage all over whoever sports them. Of course, they could grow bizarrely misshapen vulture wings instead. Mutant chapters err on the side of horrifying and disfiguring, rather than fine and dandy. The 21st was a clusterfuck, and in keeping with the setting tone, it produces aberrants that are outright purged or mutants that strain the tolerance of the Emperor's less blighted subjects.

Also about other types of mutations, what about abnormal healing factors that grants Space Marines Wolverine-like healing (including stuff like cells absorbing dead cells to use the biomass to create new cells), but need to eat a lot of calorie-rich food to activate this.

As a result, the chapter has their battle brothers quickly return to active duty much faster than usually and can survive much more terrifying wounds.

One day.

One day they'll be back.

If Harlequins and Genestealer Cults came back as factions in their own rights, then Squats will also one day...and maybe the Zoats too.

An entire chapter of blanks. Something in the gene seed cuts off their connection to to warp and turns them into blanks, a process that is extremely painful and horrifying since it is literally the loss of soul.

posting some fluff for the culimarines, hope you like it guys !
>As you have asked, my lord, i have seek knowledge about this very peculiar chapter of the adeptus astartes, colloquially known as the ''culinary marines'' or as the ''culimarines''.
Upon investigation and with the emperor guidance, i have found the location of their homeworld, on the feral world of Lucullus.
With great diplomacy and thanks to your divine connections with the holy adeptus terra, i have been granted the right to proceed within their chapter-fortress. Here, i was introduced to lord Raoul, a ''fleshwatcher'', as they call him, which appears to be a function covering both the role of the apothecary and of the chaplain. A minor deviancy from the codex astartes it seems.
When i asked him upon his chapter, he become angry, as their true name is the ''knight of Lucullus'', and, i quote, ''not some ridiculous sobriquet made by deadbrain assholes''. But, remembering my divine mission, it was not for question of etiquette that i was brought here.
Gathering my faith, i asked him upon the crude rumor of ''cannibalism'' that was supposedly perpetrated among his chapter. As i was preparing myself to join the god emperor, he answered me with great pride:
''it is indeed true that we make feast of our fallen brethen, clerc of the administratum. However, it is only with great respect of the emperor laws, and in accordance to the law of our chapter. We believe that, by making a feast of our brothers flesh, their spirit and strenght will come into us, and so they will be able to continue through us the long war against the ennemy of mankind''
Truly a surprising response to your interrogation my lord. I tried then to press him with more question about this mysterious and non-regulatory activity, and he finally allowed me to assist to one of those rituals, truly a great honor my lord. Though i wasn't allowed to take any holo-vid record, my lord, i will try to describe it in the best manner:
>>
>first, the corpse of the battle brother was investigated by the fleshwatcher raoul and his serfs, so that no corruption may defile the ritual. Then, the fallen brother's geneseed were taken, and his body was put in a cold coffin, to protect his flesh from decay. When the time finally arrive, his corpse was taken out, and his augmentation were retrieved from his body, as well as his black carapace.
The fleshwatcher proceeded to clean up his body and shaved him, then he applied on him holy oil and sacred herbs. The body was brought to a table, were a dozen of battle brothers sat, without their powerarmor, in the chapters traditionnal robes. I was told that they were his closest companions. The ritual began, and as the fleshwatcher sang holy cantic, the battle-brothers started to eat the body in perfect silence, slicing the flesh and bones with great knives. First the heart was divided among the closest friends of the marine, then his brain was eaten by all, so that his experience may be passed upon them. After several long hours, nothing was left from the corpse.

Yeah, the extremely infamous Knights Inductor did it and it went full cosmo Mary Sues reviled by /tg/.

Then a couple of anons tried to fix them and /tg/ went apeshit.

I was there when the rewriting was commenced. The toxicity was so great that it would inspire fear in the Dark Gods of Chaos.

Don't Space Marines have hyper coagulating blood? Could we do something with that.

I have two ideas. First, a mutation where the gene seed is slow acting. Takes between 2 and 3times longer to mature. This lets the implantation of much old subjects. I envision a chapter that when the battle is done, they help care for the dying IG heroes by taking them to be re-made. Age range from guys in their 20's to 60's. (They ally with IG a lot)

Second idea is over active gene seed gland. Not only dose it grow to maturity faster, but it is also bigger, and you don't need to wait till a battle brother dies. Many brother can be made from one source. This lends to the thinking of harvesting it before battles when it matures. This leads to 2 out comes, either cannon fodder for days. Or they can be super picky about what they use, and thus only use the seed from their best brothers, captains / vet's / heros.

This was well-written, please do more.

My try, for a lone marine exiled from the chapter:

The Swine is a mercenary of immense stature and talent, covered in scars and bionic plugs, employed by rogue traders and raiders of the gothic sector.
Withdrawn and spending his time in meditation, one of his peculiar habits is to consume the flesh of his enemies. Afterwards, the usually secluded mercenary becomes much more animated, showing traits of the vanquished foe for a while, going has far as to growl according to some reports.
Other tales have him using exotic xenoweapons that took their former owners decades to master, extracting voidcharts from an old navigator skull, or opening the vox-lock on the vault of Mateba, the famous pirate lord, after eating his brain, among other wild stories.
Despite this disgusting habit, he is sought by big-game hunters across the segmentum, having an instinct surpassing even the greatest predators.
He usually asks no money for his services, as long as his employer provides him with transportation, and novel opponents to overcome and to eat.

Voidsmen talk of imperial agents and giant armored figures showing a lot interest in the swine, but so far no contact has been made between them and the elusive mercenary.

With my special snowflake marine chapter, I have a mutation that ossified their second heart into an organ that generates raw energy that a battle brother may project as flame from implants in the hands or use to power machinery, such a power swords. Without the correct hypno-indoctrination and implants to use it however, the marine is likely to detonate violently under stress; not knowing about this mutation initially caused the chapter to lose half its number while engaging renegade forces. The control of the mutated organ requires conscious thought, and shortly after death the corpse will cremate itself, meaning reclamation of the gene-seed must occur swiftly. This organ pierces the black carapace, and is a weak spot on their person, detonating the marine in an explosion of bone and ceramite if penetrated. It also affects their appearance, giving their bodies an unhealthy glow as power runs through their veins, and escapes out of wounds leaving many marines covered in burns and scar tissue where cuts have cauterized themselves. Sparks emanate from their mouth, and their voices are booming and distorted, meaning they rarely reveal themselves before anyone not affiliated with the chapter. There's more to it, but that's the gist of the mutation itself, including the drawbacks of missing their secondary hearts.

It's definitely not my excuse to create Utsuho marines, not at all.

I don't why but this makes me wonder what it would be like if a chapter recruited from a feral world where amazonian tribes were the most prominent. Would they recruit solely from the male population or is there a something wrong with their gene-seed that allows them to recruit the women as well? If they are somehow able to recruit females as well as males, would their chapter hierarchy be similar to how it is on their recruitment world? If not how do female Marines act towards males of both higher and lower ranking? If they're all males then how do they react to fighting alongside Sisters of Battle?
