>Shit in lore
>One of the most competent in-game
Tau isn't the only example in /tg/, but how does lore/gameplay separation make you feel in general?
>>50405446
Are you saying tau are shit in lore? As in they're always getting their asses kicked?
Have you not read about the Damocles gulf or the taros campaign? Tau kick so much ass in the fluff it's bordering on Mary Sue plot armor. The only thing keeping them from becoming a true threat in the galaxy is their inability to achieve ftl

The difference between Taros and Damocles was that Taros was well written.

>competent
That's a funny way of saying OP

tyranid, just tyranid. they used to have awesome fluff and awesome rules
and now they are shit, crunchwise and lorewise.
and don't tell me about flyrant list of ''this is the only viable list because the rest is shit'' or about the gsc, who get better rule, despite being a rather small part of the tyranid faction

i remenber from 4edition that the damocles campain was okay. The tau win more because the imperium had better shit to beat rather than by their own strenght, though they still manage to resist the imperial juggernaught

There is an old adage, "Amateurs talk about tactics, but professionals study logistics."
Taros was 100% a logistics campaign. The entire battle occurs because the Imperium is trying to increase its production capacity for the eye of Terror, and someone noticed some inventory discrepancies. Much of the opening is an attempt to secure resources for the campaign, and much of the campaign is an attempt by the Tau to deny the Imperium access to drinking water. The Imperium looses in Taros mostly because of its own inability to bring assets to bear rather than any particularly incredible or novel strategies invented by the Tau. Indeed, the Tau strategy was fairly simple.
As absurd as 40k is, Taros reads like a report or deposition, composed of facts and figures while WZD is mostly more pulp and hyperbole.
Taros was, "Water and fuel is important in war." WZDamocles (Kauyon and Mont'ka) was more, "And the bikes squished their heads real good, (lookit all the blood!) but they still shot us lots and there are some explosions, too, and now we gotta leave, better set half the sector on fire. Lookit them burn!"

A game is one battle, they might do well in it but that has nothing to do with winning in the lore.
Think of the nids, they are one of the scariest and most unstoppable forces in the lore, but a game is just a few minutes of their onslaught. Even if the other army 'wins' the game, it would be assumed from a lore perspective that a whole other wave of nids is just behind it.
At best, winning a game against the nids is just buying your forces time to gtfo of the planet from a lore perspective.

Except that was only true in previous editions. Kids learn fast.

They way Mont'ka reads, the IoM expected to be able to steamroll the Tau but found that the blueberries were putting up a pretty good fight so decided "fuck it" and just nuked the entire Damocles Gulf.
In 4th Edition, Tau were mid-tier in fluff and crunch (aside from the classic Fish of Fury). They had cool tech, but it was pretty clear that they were the new kids on the block. Their OPness in fluff actually coincides with when the Riptide was released, meaning that they're actually a good example of fluff and crunch mirroring eachother.
Now Craftworld Eldar on the other hand, are supposed to be at the end of their rope and constantly scraping by, yet have access to some of the most powerful weaponry in the game for dirt cheap prices. THAT'S an example of lore/gameplay separation.

Nailed it, GW needs more writing like Taros campaign.
