hello i have a question. if i decapitated/amputated someone with a lightsaber (or an even hotter futuristic weapon), wouldnt it cauterize their wound as fast as it travels through? so the head/limb would remain with the body. sorry for autistic questiom, dropped out of school so i cant answer it myself.

Technically someone should explode every time they are hit by a light saber it is so hot.
So the arm just gets flung away by the explosive power of water vapor.

Gee, if only there was a massively popular movie series where people have limbs cut off with lightsabers all the time, you could already know the answer.
But alas, it does not exist.

Star Wars says it gets cauterized immediately.

No, they're so hot that the flesh the blade actually touches is burnt to ash. There will be cautery, but it will be several inches from the point of contact. So you won't bleed out from the wound, but everything past the point of cauterization is going to be cooked meat at best. Falls apart real nice.

ddoes this apply to bones?

It applies to most organic material, but particularly dense materials like blast doors don't vaporise.
