In terms of Kill-Spells this one for me takes the cake. I always need to justify NOT including it in a black deck. Being able to kill a combo-piece creature or a utility creature with no responses is pretty glorious.

Also in terms of fast removal this is just as good if not better. This one can kill a LOT of combo pieces, and I love seeing smug grins turn into frowns when I play this targeting some important keystone piece. It's very satisfying to see a UGx player reactively reach for their hand and then read the card disappointedly.

I'm trying to make a birds tribal deck with this guy, I figured he'd do well with all those flyers. Anybody have some general ideas for good Derevi synergy in general plus what kinda creature to spell ratios I should have? I suck at tribal making as I usually just dump like 60 goblins and call it good nuff.

A friend of mine has a Derevi bird tribal deck. He keeps on claiming his Derevi is balanced because his creatures are bad. Doesn't fucking matter, they are cheap evasive beaters that untap your lands after combat, letting you play out new threats every turn while still leaving your hand up to counter shit, and once you actually play something like a Gilded Lotus or a Bloom Tender you just accidentally get off a 30 mana Blue Sun's Zenith and lock down the board.

Not to mention he keeps on sacrificing his derevi just to play it out and tap down anything that ever poses a threat to him.

So yeah, it doesn't really matter how bad you are at tribal because Derevi will play the deck for you.

If you want easy some Infinites add in Eldrazi Displacer, Sword of the Meek and Ashnod's Altar.

Breya + Displacer + Altar = 1 extra mana per usage
Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek + Altar = 1 extra mana and 1 life per usage

If you want don't want to use Infinites add in some of the Fabricate creatures from Kaladesh, Thopter Spy Network and some Clue generators to keep a steady stream of artifacts rolling in. You could also add in a Ghirapur Aether Grid to squeeze out one extra point of damage before Breya does her thing.

- draw in the command zone is always very useful, very hard to gas out
- synergizes well with hatebears and evasion (ie. sidar)
- tymna is politically somewhat useful since you can say "i need draw!! sorry!!" when you attack dudes
- this is minor, but you can curve 3 mana tymna, then 4 mana sidar

but tana has her perks too. you can go for some kind of token smashy strategy with RGW. but i'd personally build tymna because i like orzhov tech more

Sidar-Tana Weenies is a good strategy, but you'll need to be able to protect both at the same time because people will see it coming and smack you in the dick for trying a reasonable strategy. Additionally, you're forced into going wide rather than tall- outside of a few corner-case cards like a Mycoloth, you're going to eat board-wipes very hard, every time. Once you get some tokens going it's not mandatory to keep both commanders out, but Sidar is the more important of the two. The deck is not a powerhouse or anything, and will get shit on if your meta hates tapping creatures for the purpose of dealing damage, but it looks like the most fun to pilot.

Tymna also supports a token-weenie strategy, but gives you nice access to using those tokens as sacrifice fuel, Melee/Monarch shenanigans in theory, and plenty of card draw. If you really need two live, she can swing under Sidar too, and since her ability doesn't require tapping she can easily set herself off. There's a ton of value here and I feel like the power ceiling is a bit higher than with Tana, not to mention that she fits nicely into a curve. Play her, then play Sidar and attack with her.

Ikra's the one no one's talked about, but she's the only one that significantly changes from a weenie gameplay style. With Ikra, you want the biggest butts you can get your hands on. Vigilant butts. Unfortunately, she can't swing in for seven life-gain unless you stretch for it with shitty equipment or something, but you -can- build a massive wall of big butts, run a Doran, and some token makers to laugh all the way to the bank. I think she's the weakest of the three, but the ability to make something different with her compared to the other two might make her worthwhile.

Has anyone done a Zo-Zu deck? I've been running Ashling for a long time, but I find that my successful wincons rarely rely on her and largely come when I fork big burn spells and/or asymmetrical land destruction (wake of destruction forked to hit everything but mountains). I was thinking of revisiting things to be a land punishment deck, and noticed Zo-Zu was natural for this, but I am afraid I might end up doing more damage to myself than to opponents... well... I suppose that's not too different from Ashling but Gratuitous violence and such help...

gonna be honest, I'm having a hard time seeing your game plan. I would probably not run either ajani if you are trying to cut one, but I think cards like inexorable tide, darksteel reactor, time of need, bred for the hunt, odric, ashnod's altar (yes i know you have an infinite combo with this, but you're not looking to capitalize on that combo. you'd be better off having a card that is more looking to advance your gameplan than this), mind unbound, maybe think about replacing some of those outlast creatures. If you're looking for combat oriented stuff, I would also recommend taking out some instants and sorceries in favor of creature based equivalents.

things to add might be archangel of thune, elspeth suns champion (desu the best planeswalker. if you are running planeswalkers, run her), ugin is great because he ults after one turn with atraxa. Would also recommend more recursion/reanimation like maybe a sun titan, and reveillark is pretty good too in your deck. Eternal witness is pretty much an auto-include. volrath's stronghold? obzedat's aid/profound journey might also be good in your deck because of the high variability in permanent types you have.

The point of color-shifted cards was to bring old cards to colors where it almost fit, not that they were completely disregarding the color pie. Black got Damnation because it gets occasional wraths, red got Brute Force because it always gets pump spells, white got Mana Tithe because it likes to tax things, etc.

Having played before, during, and after Time Spiral dropped in it truly was a celebration of MtG before New World Order hit the scene. The devs must have known what was going on and called in some major favors to make TS happen the way it did.

the only thing that helps me win is azor's elocutors, but that's 1 card in 99 and doesn't even really work unless i'm absolutely dominating the board.

i'd have to absolutely commit to the lifegain theme if i wanted to run the 50-life-win cards, and i just don't think i have room for that theme if i want to go pillowfort, control, politics, draw, etc.

yeah, i guess the simplest solution is the best one, although i could modify that to be a bit more flavorful. i was thinking i could get all the mind control enchantments and exile enchantments, then maybe put in some enchantment synergy and use all those enchantments on stuff. exile annoying nonlands, mind control fatties, etc.

Replenish is great if you feel like spending, and using Tunnel Vision to call it is one of my favourite combos.
If you wanna go balls to the wall you can add the Parallax Wave + Parallax Tide + Starfield of Nyx/Opalescence combo.
Come to think of it, Enchanted Evening with Opalescence makes for nice lock.

I love Enchanted Evening, saccing Aura Thief to Auratog is super cool, among with other shit you don't need to kill someone after stealing everything.
Also, nothing is as fun as people ramping their ass off lands while I focus on artifacts and enchantments and wiping all progress others made with Opalescence and Evening.
It's more fun than Lettuce+Null Todd while you're the only one that controls a creature.

I've been looking into EDH and I wanted to make a myr deck with Karn as a commander (because I wanted to be colourless and Memnarch is blue)

Got tired of building combo, black, and stax, decided to build human tribal using Sigarda, Heron's Grace as the Commander. Much different building this deck than usual, especially because I had to compromise between value and flavor, as well as attempt to make a good deck because human tribal in and of itself isn't very good. Thought /edhg/ would like a look, maybe make some suggestions, ask some questions about lore and shit.

If you are intent on using arcane, you should look into sorcery/instant recursion as well as a multicolor to make the most of the limited arcane pool. Melek or Riku maybe but I think Jeleva is best for the slice of black which I think was the best arcane/spirit interaction from kamigawa. Fucking Goryo's Vengence.
