Due to plot shit (secret society releases retrovirus, wizard/god gets bored, universe's parameters get mixed up a bit, etc.), peoples' health becomes dependent on their level of comfort. If you stay comfy, you can live forever, but too much stress ages and sickens you.

Whether through advance information, cunning investigation, or dumb luck, you survive the initial panic (and slaughter) and get to design your very own comfy bunker to live in.

In it a group of wizards summon the spirits of legendary heroes, figures of myth, and a badass motherfucker from the future to fight. A lot of them simply put me in situations I don't want to be in. While I kinda hate myself and hate my life, there's something terrifying to me about becoming something that is not myself. I can't really think of many that I'd want to live through, even though they make neat fantasies. I wouldn't really even want my own CYOAs to be real. They make for good "what if" scenarios or setups for storytelling, but it's not the kind of life I'd want to live.

My primary concern is figuring out the secret to my queen's longevity, which I'm hoping is some form of immortality or at least a ridiculously long and youthful life. This means pitting my superhuman criminal mind against that of a monarch who managed to secure absolute power for herself. No easy task. But if I succeed(a very big if) my reward, after fleeing the continent, is getting to carve a hedonistic path through the other kingdoms all the while lying, cheating, scamming, conning, seducing, and fucking to my heart's desire. Wandering to where I please, doing whatever I please and spreading some chaos along the way is everything I could ever want in life, or 9 lives in my case. Just gotta remember to stay a few steps ahead of Queen Vera's wrath.

Still looking for that creepy/horror CYOA where you're in an alternate dimension with the red eye.

You became one of three types of monsters (a slime, some sort of skinless ghoul, and maybe a squidly thing), each of which had a power they got immediately as well as one that "in time, you learn" how to do.

The slime could change shape and ooze around, and eventually change color, but always felt uncomfortable moving.
The other ones could stop/slow down time and stretch their limbs, though I'm not sure which was which.

Does anyone at least have anything I can google? Maybe when it was posted?

I guess for me the being super powerful or all these other things aren't really what I want out of life. If there was a CYOA that let me be free of my mental illnesses without any other strings attached, then I'd be cool with that one being real. Other than that, I really enjoy the little thinking games that smaller CYOAs present. The bigger ones don't quite hold me quite as long.

The super-broken Worm CYOA comes close because you can, iirc, just take a ridiculous kit and the ability to head off to any reality you want. But that rapidly becomes a question of which fictional setting I'd rather be in with a S-tier powerset rather than anything to do with CYOA.

Same with any CYOA that lets you dimension hop to fictional universes/create fictional universes. Like that one where you can, for a few points, create/replace/be any fictional character in any fictional setting.

Few remember his face, save that its smile brought true serene contentment, and its dissapointment was as biting as a dagger to the heart. He always offers what you truly desire, and even those able to break his spell long enough to strike him down always seem to just forget about the body, and as soon as backs are turned, it is gone. The next day, the stowaway returns, with no judgement, merely forgiveness, and a renewed offer for parlay.

I almost never do for this kind of CYOA. If I'm playing a self-insert then I usually want to be a self-sufficient S-tier character and/or instantly ditch using Kaleidoscope, so companions would be dead weight there.

If I'm doing reincarnation mode, which I take whenever it's offered, then I try to make a character who could get their own companions readily enough. In which case companions are also pointless for a different reason--hell, thinking up scenarios on how my character interacts with others and makes friends/enemies is half the fun so choosing non-canon companions as guaranteed auto-friends defeats the purpose.

So basically, it takes a really interesting companion that plays strongly into the narrative I'm brewing for me to spend points on.

Just ingredients in the pot... a chance to have some lighter comedic fun, a mystery arc or two, a dramatic plots and yet the chance to chill out and just showcase life, etc. Not every moment is going to simultaneously channel all 8 genres and 7 add-ons to the max.

Honestly, some of my favourite media has lots and lots of characters so I just made what I wanted. Especially dealing with military and politics, you need that ensemble cast in order to properly set up and develop all the factions, hierarchies, and ideologies.

Soundtrack would be nice for people playing it, but annoying for me. I mean, who wants to hear music that no one else hears? CG I passed on because it's all forgotten in the morning anyway. I didn't get voice acting for two reasons: no guarantee that the voice actors will be pleasing to me and fit well with the character, and I really wanted to experience a world where people communicate through telepathy instead.

I get the complaints, but I really want enough characters to give a bit of depth the the world. More people able to matter and have personalities and names I remember rather than be faceless NPCs. I imagine a world where you don't even really see the people out of your personal circle of important people to be a rather closed and restrictive one.

I guess that is where those larger story arcs come in. You establish characters, but then you have to use them. And their use has to mean something to the underlying substance of the work as a whole. So rather than a flash in the pan, I would hope they are introduced in appropriate ways and developed and made important in accordance with their character type (side characters don't need all that much, after all). My problem specifically is, all the novels and stories I have ever consumed, fictional or factual focuses on handful of main characters, I remember them because their role in their respective body of work was significant and integral to the story.

You proposed such an large cast of even main characters that in for a narrative to accommodate all of them, you're looking a matrices of Rube Goldberg plots where characters do things at random intervals that have little importance to one story arc, but have large ramifications much later on, when everyone has forgotten they even existed, where the expositions and explanations are novels within themselves.

I'm not sure I agree, at least not for all theoretical frameworks that can support a narrative.

Look at narratives from diverse sources like Legend of Galactic Heroes, Lord of the Rings, Robin Hood, Battlestar Galactica, My Little Pony, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Gargoyles, and the Odyssey. Naming a dozen memorable characters from any of these is easy enough, and reaching 50 with side characters is no problem. Predictably, you see that once characters are established and made distinct and important, they are grouped into units that can be treated as a whole - eg. Merry Men, Rohirrim, Fezzani, Cutie Mark Crusaders, what have you - and they are drawn out of these units when needed, such as when development is to take place. This reduces a lot of potential complexity.

Keep in mind also that part of the conceit of harem as a genre is that there are many more attractive women who are interesting and interested than might be considered normal; this will naturally inflate the "acceptable" number of characters as a matter of convention. If you look at a 50 year old person who never settled down, say they started having meaningful sexual relationships at 25, and they lasted about 2 years. That's 12 lovers already, and no harem involved to simplify matters and compress time restraints.

I mean, maybe our disagreement is rooted in the "is it more a game or a novel" question, or maybe it's a matter of taste and convention. I mean, some people actually like War and Peace after all.

The only thing is I feel that sensor package should be the opposite of fragile. It's got one or two small camera ports and mostly just a big tough face shield. No big holes like other eye types to catch bullets. Maybe say it has poor close range target acquisition and tracking?

Thanks m8. I actually couldn't really find a decent image befitting a mecha sensor head, so that one is actually just power armor. That's a fine idea though, Sensor being disadvantaged at close range and low tracking speed is grand, I'll be sure to put that in.

I read some parts of War and Peace during high school, I appreciated Tolstoy's methodical and all encompassing ruthlessness, literally nothing is left out of detail, every person and plot element he put into place, was used to great effect and virtually all loose ends were tightly/messily tied up to fit his cynical narrative. Despite my appreciation I never had the stomach to finish his book, because it was long, dry, had too much detail that I thought he didn't need to mention but could be simply implied by just hinting about it, (than again knowing his background and beliefs he probably thought the Russian people were that mentally stubborn and blunt) and after a point in the book you can pretty much predict what's going to happen because it was TOO neatly and meticulously laid out, there was no room of the imagination.

I liked the book,I thought it was very well written but I get the sense of that I didn't had the proper mindset or was the proper audience to enjoy it.

This is probably why I never got into the harem genre, you got this huge selection of attractive but one/two dimensional women, after a couple of iterative relationship developmental arcs with the main protagonist you could figure out very quickly which one of the girl(s) will suit the protag the best, but that's not the outcome in most cases, the author/artist always throws curve balls to fuck up any attempt of meaningful deduction, making some of the most intimate and emotional provoking character development moments completely moot in extreme cases.

Every general thread has their rules of conduct for what is and what is not appropriate name/tripfagging.

In /cyoag/ its generally acceptable to put on a name or trip when you're a) posting a new cyoa or WIP, b) engaging with the community to clarify and answer questions regarding a cyoa that you have made and c) Or to announce ETA of new cyoas or to address technical issues with cyoa creation.

Mopeyennui does not meet any of the above mentioned criteria, he(she?) is literally a pariah in these threads.
