I ran a campaign where you had tarrasques which were good and used for farming. You think I care?

Tarrasques are created immediately grown and powerful, with a single achievable objective in mind. Once they achieve the objective, they just go berserk and need to be put to eternal slumber because they are indestructible. Shame you mortals weren't there to see that one time a Tarrasque got out of control so much that it couldn't be forced into hibernation, so they created another Tarrasque with objective of forcing the previous one into submission so that it could be put to sleep. The new T succeeded, and then got out of control itself. This shit repeated like five or so times before they managed to hibernate them all. That makes for 7 Tarrasques slumbering in a single area.

I hope this answers both "Why is an angel stationed in Acheron?" and "Why can't we dig here?", dear mortals. Look for treasure elsewhere.

A tarrasque egg could make for an interesting adventure hook. Maybe have different factions fighting over its control, or the adventurers trying to figure out what to do with the egg.

I'd imagine it would be huge and pretty much indestructible (and its egg shell would probably make good armor when the tarrasque hatched).

Tarrasques come from the Plane of Fucked up Shit, and are that plane's (relatively) small omnivorous scavengers, akin to earth's raccoons.

This fact perfectly illustrates why the Plane of Fucked up Shit was named like that and why it's strictly forbidden to open planar gates to it.

The tarrasque is the equivalent to a raccoon in it's home environment. The endsinger is an average owl, the burrower beneath a garden snake. The behemoths, shoggoths, mu spores, and dragons are a rung lower on the food pyramid, the equivalent of fish, small birds, puppies, and cats. Kaiju are high level predators: big cats, bears, wolves.

The Great Old Ones, Empyral Lords, Demon Lords and the like are the top of the food chain.

But they're not the highest form of life on that plane of existence. That form of life is Something Other.

Humans accidentally broke into this plane of existence by forcing their way through the Far Realm where it edged on the Plane of Shadow, and entering a plane of reality where the gods are all long gone and there is nothing but this horrific environment where the the evolutionary development of things gods use to punish mortals is the norm.

I always run the Tarrasque as a kind of force of nature lying dormant until some huge catastrophe shakes the world. He's like the rage of the natural world unleashed to reset the balance by wiping everything clean. That said, it's certainly not a natural thing. I always have it show up in meteoric craters or at places with strong connections to other planes like it just ended up on this world after its last great rage. I once had an entire city built over its sleeping form, barely aware that the verdant caldera had not formed from some volcano. But some people had started drawing blood from it and it had strange effects on those who imbibed...
