No elves, only Eldar, though they rely on psychic ability and incredibly advanced technology, to the point it is practically magic, for those very reasons beyond their physical likeness with the pointy ears and their long life spans they are practically the same thing. I think, really, the answer is in how they are treated within that fictional setting. Sadly not really a very deep or satisfying answer. We may not like it but whatever is official about any setting says that is what elves (or anything else for that matter) are that is what they are, at least within that setting. You can complain but it is what it is. No point pushing things into "NOT MUH" territory. Yet that can take us to some really strange places. Consider what Twilight did with vampires.

There are some interesting fictional examples. Ever read Elfquest? Advanced shapeshifting aliens visit a pseudo-Earth in their shapeshifting space ship. They make it look like a glowing palace and themselves they fashion into the elves from that worlds stories.

But then through tragic circumstance their ship ends up traveling into that worlds distant past where their alien abilities, indistinguishable from magic, start to fail them. They end up mostly murdered by pretty much cavemen. Their descendants live out their lives as elves, largely forgetting where they came from.

So they aren't really elves, they're aliens, and yet due to time travel they actually were the inspiration for the stories that became mythological elves. In a way they're both, but given they are trapped in elven form to the point that barely anyone remembers what their ancestors look like they are, for all intents and purposes, real elves.

Different tribes/clans are them splitting after the crash/fuel cells failing them, with biologists and colonists forming one faction, military and pilots other etc.

Well, while something can BE aesthetic, that has nothing to do with its aesthetic. Aesthetic as a noun generalizes a set of principles which an artist or body of at adheres to. A sort of edifice of artistic guidelines.

But something that IS aesthetic is concerned with beauty or artistry. My aesthetic preference is my preference in beauty and artwork.

I would argue that there are some new applications of the term that are valid and not defined well. Specifically, when the term "aesthetically pleasing" is used, it generally means that the user is describing the beauty they find in the idea of something, despite it literally meaning that they find something beautiful. Like if you find the idea of a society that survives by "whaling" strange and gigantic land mammals aesthetically pleasing, it means you drive satisfaction from the premise itself, and not necessarily any actual specific artwork, although that helps.

Fairly certain this is a pretty recent application of the word "aesthetic", but I think it's serious valid at this point.

There's a lot of differences between settings. I tried picking an "elf" that I liked, and working backwards.

They're sparse of words, isolated, seem stuck up and avoid eye contact. I decided that this was derived from a property of their eyes. To look into an elf's eyes to literally hear his thoughts. While making contact with an elf, in addition to your own thoughts, you think what they are thinking, feel what they are feeling, see what they are seeing, hear what they are hearing. Their own society is very advanced and highly functional, but they have very poor facility with language. They've also learned to mostly avoid eye contact with non elves, as it is usually an alarming sensation for them. So they're kinda weird to be around.
