Times that knowledge from a game saved you in real life?
>be me in 10th grade world history
>always sucked at history
>went to a Magic draft instead of studying
>final exam
>one question was "What was a bivouac?"
>pulled a Frontier Bivouac at the draft
>asked what a Bivouac was out of curiosity at the shop
>got exactly 60 percent, just enough to pass History
>if I had gotten one more problem wrong, I would have failed

Less specific than your example but my enjoyment of learning about the natural world and earth systems for more "realistic" RPG worldbuilding meant I did really well in geography
