What are some examples of Ranged Weapons?
Looking for Medieval era hand weapons, realistic or magical.
Working on a board game and I need a list of about 30 types of ranged weapons.
>>50044388
>30 types
Why?
You have too many types of weapons there
>>50044388
What in the name of fuck?
Big groups are thrown (knives, maces, javelins), bows (various types), crossbows (various power and reload mechanisms), early firearms (and bombs).
For fantasy, add alchemical thrown/ammunition to the mix and you're set for anything.
>>50044388
Bolas and 29 different sorts of javelins.
>>50044600
Thrown maces? why the fuck not just throw rocks
>>50044388
>Ranged Weapons Medieval
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_medieval_weapons
how much more do you need?
>>50044637
Cavalry deal, hit and run, Byzantines used them and Mongols.
Because they're heavier/sharper and fly better than rocks.
>>50044556
Ah right, I'll explain
I've posted a few times, developing a game called The 12 Towers. I dont necessarily need 30 different ones, but variations.
Damn this is tough to explain, pic related is a set of Melee Weapon cards.
Basically I just need 30ish kinds of weapons, but a wide variety so it's not all Bows, Crossbow, Longbow, repeat. Throw in a theme for bonus points
>>50044785
My list so far
> Bow
> Crossbow
> Longbow
> Shuriken
> Throwing Knives
> Bomb
> Throwing Axe
> Chakram
> Harpoon
> Spear
Running kinda dry on ideas, so I'm hoping there's a style of ranged weapons I've overlooked.
>>50044815
Sling?
>>50044815
Your best bet is calling them fancy native names, Arbalest, Balista, Kunai.
Just rip off Codex Martialis.
>>50044815
What about Mini-Catapults?
Javelins?
Shortbow?
Composite bow?
Darts?
Trebuchet?
that Chinese crossbow that feeds more bolts with easy reload mechanism?
Does Whip count as ranged weapon?
What about throwing two metal balls tied together with chain, towards your opponents legs so that they cannot move or whatever it is called?
Greek fire, somehow turned into a medieval flamethrower?
>>50044868
Oh awesome, thanks
>>50044879
Nice I'll look into that
>>50044968
I have a list of heavy weaponry that falls into the Siege catagory, Whip and Greek Fire is awesome, thank you
How about an atlatl?
>>50044388
If you need that many, make sure to include all the types of crossbows.
There's the basic one that I've seen called a "hunting crossbow" that is small and has to be pulled back by hand.
There's the bigger version of the hand pulled crossbow.
Another one has a "goat beard" fast draw that makes it both faster and more powerful but heavier.
The really huge siege crossbows have the winch cranks for maximum power but terribly long loading time.
Then the arbalest is an advanced version made with steel.
>>50044388
don't forget early handgonnes
>>50044388
Pocket Sand.
>>50044388
>>50044815
I can think of one to add

What about assassin type weapons like sleeve crossbows or the kind the Chinese had that went on someone's back and fired when they bent over?
Other than that, good ole sling shots or bolas or hell even grenades (that's a ranged weapon right?)
>>50049577
Seriously?
>>50049666
Yep.
Also, happy birthday, Satan!
>>50049676
I nearly forgot about hunga-munga.
Basically the African of european Hurlbats, and thus just optimized throwing axes.
>>50044815
well Early Firearms and Rockets(including Rocket Arrows) would be worth looking into, if you're not limiting yourself to Europe, then it's important to know the Chinese were using gunpowder based weapons since at least the 10th Century AD;

Are boomerangs actually effective? They look like a joke.
>>50050867
effective as weapons? no.
they are useful for hunting small animals though since it's basically a flying club.
>>50050867
They are for hunting. Generally a hunting tool doesn't get used for thousands of years if its useless. They are basically a specialised throwing club. I know its hard to believe they were particularly useful, but remember that the majority of boomerangs people have been exposed to are small practice boomerangs that are basically just toys to develop throwing techniques and an understanding of how airfoils affect flight patterns. Here is a pic with a couple heftier ones, second from the left can easily stun a kangaroo if you nail it in the head. They aren't exactly ideal battlefield weapons, there's a reason throwing clubs weren't popular around the world among professional soldiers, but they can definitely injure you.
>>50044815
Bolas come in two and three ball versions, to use against bipeds and quadrupeds.
"Stonebows" are a thing.
Slurbow is a crossbow with a barrel, influenced by firearms.

Darts like the plumbata or Xiu Jian
Atlatl
Knobkierie
Sling
Kestros is the sling which throws darts
Kpinga
Rope dart
Shuang Fei Zhua: flying claws that were pretty much fancy bolas, came in versions with one or two claws
Meteor hammer
Composite bows
Zhu Ge Nu, better known as the repeating crossbow
Bian Jian was like a two-man sling which threw javelins. Pic related
Tie Jian was a sword-like mace which was sometimes thrown.
>>50044388
Back mounted mini catapult
>>50044815
Instead of bow and longbow go full autist and include stuff like composite bows and flatbows.
