Fighter is fucking sick if you pick Eldritch Knight or Battlemaster.

By level 5, a Battlemaster can Action Surge to attack four times in a single turn, augmenting all of those attacks with their maneuvers to shit out damage. If you have Great Weapon Master you can cleave to attack six times, assuming you kill before and after Action Surge.

Martials are a lot more viable in 5e and the gulf between them and casters is a lot slimmer. It's still there bit it's a lot more reasonable than 3.PF.

Action Surge is fantastic if you go fighter. We have a barb in our game and he tears shit up.

Ignore the flood of caster supremacy posters on /tg/, most of them just spout memes or base their entire opinion on locked room thought experiments that don't consider other factors. Worth remembering most of them don't have a game.

Monks get great at higher levels in 5e but they're still average on lower ones.

Magic Users still get way more out-of-combat utility fun abilities but in combat everyone seems to be beastin all the same with (in my experience) really fun synergies with casters and non-casters
