See, you should have teamed up with that Tau shitposter and taken my advice. It would have been way funnier bait if there'd been a single post simultaneously rambling about marines AND guard being shit, Tau ruling, AND hentai. Also 9/11, I think.

40k's wierd to me, I actually like the novels - they're not good per se but then neither is a lot of the classic pulp literature of the last century that was fun to read. But i don't have an interest in playing the game. I wouldn't mind snagging a few mini's once my painting skills improve mind you, I actually like some of them just for how they look.

If I did get into a table top strategy game it'd probably be ae of sigmar actually. I really like those sculpts for starters and while I've heard it's a mess insofar as competitive play is concerned, I'm not really interested in that anymore - I'd rather chill with some friends, rolls some dice and have a some laughs than bitch about whatever race's meta is cramping my style or whatever the fuck it is people do nowadays.

So, two questions.

1. What is the MOST metal 40K faction?
(it's Grey Knights, don't kid yourselves)

2. What genres of metal fit best with each faction?

>>
>>49889832
How can they be metal if they have no souls or emotions to appreciate it?
>>
>>49889913
>not getting the joke

Most metal faction in terms of aesthetic would probably be Chaos, either Khorne, Slaanesh, or Undivided. They go all-in on the classic heavy metal Satanism vibes.
>>
>>49889809
>Most metal faction
Of the superfactions, it's Chaos in general. They are essentially the 40k antichrist with each god also essentially having their own style of metal attached to them essentially. Like this isn't even close.

>2.Genre fits with each faction

>Space Marines
Slower groovy thrash like early Metallica. Vanilla, but still has that sense of big badasses going around.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYJGt67Mwmo

>Space Wolves
Folk/Viking Metal. Shouldn't have to explain this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDpc-831GPs

>Dark Angels
Brutal fast paced thrash in the vein of the band Dark Angel. The fast paced intensity represents Ravenwing while the more savage/distorted sound represents Deathwing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEWLbgqCkUk

>Blood Angels
Symphonic Black Metal. Underneath the layer of graceful looks/synths, there's something far more dangerous lurking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EklLgmAYFBg

>Deathwatch
National Socialist Black Metal. THE anti xenos music of black metal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYEurnu5Jrw

>Grey Knights
Prog metal. Grandiose, complex, ambitious, with a bit of cheesy goodness in there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Pw4tt8M8g

>Astra Millitarum/Imperial Guard
NWOBHM in the vein of Judas Priest/Iron Maiden. Harmonic guitar melodies show that what ever sounds cool individually, actually sounds even cooler when done together.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO6giM9UAv0

>Sisters Of Battle
Metal about metal like Manowar. While someone like Manowar might be a very 'manly' band, their faith towards metal never dies.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSoijb2CN18

>AdMech
Djent like Meshuggah. Mechanical, unfeeling, yet transcendent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtO3VCu5wv4

>Chaos: Khorne
Either the band Bolt Thrower or the genre of black metal called War Metal. Utterly savage, intense, primitive, and daemonic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7htmbpO3Z8

I don't really give a shit when it comes to the fine details of genre. It's all good metal or bad metal to me.

But I applaud you for assembling this nonetheless. Clearly know your shit.

NatSoc metal is a bit of a disconcerting thing to know exists, however.
>>
>>49880764
So what you're saying is that Tyranids are the patrician's choice then? I concur.
>>
>>49890520
>Chaos: Tzeentch
What's called Orthodox Black Metal nowadays. Otherworldly, hard to follow for those who are not dedicated, with various subtle happenings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUGmv4mvZt0

>Chaos: Nurgle
Really slow and heavy doom metal in the vein of Electric Wizard or Warhorse. So what if the world's going to shit? Lets just relax and bask in it while it happens. Let it overwhelm us!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqWV7Cctmbc

>Chaos: Slaanesh
Any metal about perversion in general. Hair metal, early Cradle Of Filth, or for the real weirdos Deathcrush era Mayhem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHP6U5vQ3mU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbYln-jTA2E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ionNHq0xJuQ

>Chaos: Undivided
Music that's often called "caverncore". Lovecraftian in nature like Tzeentch, intense/savage like Khorne, cavernous huge feeling like Nurgle, perverted like Slaanesh.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi2LUY_EbQw

>Orks
Groove metal. Willfully ignorant and macho to the max.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Evc3Xtc84N0

>Eldar
Technical Thrash Metal. Kind of a rare and lost art which when done right results in some of the best metal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd215wjpNh8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anuGPwbflY8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C71_QwZt69A

>Dark Eldar
The most technical metal you can find. Easily the most self indulgent stuff in all of metal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQYWC9ezebw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etc0RWle96w

>Necrons
Late 60s Psychedelic Rock. Stuff that can maybe barely be considered metal but was for sure a huge influence on metal. Often times more complex than metal in certain ways, too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MduQlWUoyhI

>Tau
Recent Metal + electronic experiments. The most newest and original of stuff in metal, but is a concept yet to be fully mastered.

I feel you on the first part, but it helps in differentiating in genres when you're in a particular mood for something. Having too many pointless subgenres is obviously never good though.

>But I applaud you for assembling this nonetheless. Clearly know your shit.
Thanks! Granted I spend most of my time on /tg/ now if I ever go on 4chan, I think overall I still have the most time spent on /mu/ though I only go there occasionally to give/receive recommendations for listening nowadays.

>NatSoc metal is a bit of a disconcerting thing to know exists, however.
I usually try not to let the beliefs of the author come in the way of knowing whether the music itself is good or not. Granted it is easier for NSBM since the vast majority of it is ass anyway from a musical perspective.

What made you pick psychadelic for 'Crons? Not that I'm complaining, seeing as I'm both a fucking hippie and a 'Cron player.
>>
>>49891606
That's pretty cool. If I was not limited to genre, for IG I would make a march with HUGE arrangement entailing all sorts of instruments representing the big numbers and variety of the IG.

Though I feel you on the Vostroyan thing. When I watched Apocalypse Now for the first time, at that time in my life I was doing repeat listen of The Door's self titled and Hendrix's three main studio albums while also learning All Along The Watchtower on guitar. I really, REALLY wanted to make a Catachan army that night, and might do so some time in the future is CSM support goes the way it does and nothing feels like it's worth buying.
>>
>>49891878
Necrons are the old as shit race of 40k that preceded everyone else that's in the game right now. In certain ways their tech is more complex and advanced than what everyone else has, too. They can also barely be called living beings considering their situation.

Late 60s heavy psych is the predecessor and a huge influence on all metal. There's always a debate around the music community about whether or not we can considering some of this stuff heavy metal as bands like Cream, early Floyd, Blue Cheer, etc. were the first to get that label.

While a lot of metal can be complex even more so than psych music, there are certain aspects of psych/heavy psych that aren't limited to the confines of metal and is thus often more complex and technically advanced than a lot of metal. Examples would be the Pink Floyd song I posted and its key modulation, or Hendrix/Cream's bluesy approach giving an organic feel to the music that metal can't do (metal's oragnic equivalent uses totally anti-blues stuff that's more common in black metal for comparison,) Beatle's Helter Skelter being an edit of a 27 minute long jam, Iron Butterfly's improvisational approach on In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Amon Duul II's crazy arrangements, etc.

A lot of that late 60s/early 70s psych stuff still had ideas at the time that were more complex based on an older idea of complexity (key modulation, polyphonic stuff, early studio editing, jazz inspired improv, harmonic intervals, etc. most of this was established as aspects of good technical music since the 1600s except the early studio and jazz improv). Metal mostly ditched that and ultimately kinda found its own approach of having depth based purely on riffs.

To me the Necron represent that old guard of 40k that the late 60s/early 70s heavier psych music does for metal and many other forms of music that it inspired.
>>
>>49891878
Shit I kinda forgot to mention, since that anon asked for comparisons related to metal that's why it works.

Otherwise I would've honestly picked like Musique concrète
