And that's it! Enjoy, fellow casteless meddlers. Let also praise Timothy Truman and Flint Henry and the great Kevin Siembieda for the boss setting.

Yes, I remember Wormwood. I don't remember enough about what makes it distinct besides superpowers spookiness and grimdark.

Living planet syndrome, focusing on bugs, ooze, and jewels.
It's also because it's hard to say exactly what genre this is. There are religious/heroic fantasy elements, SF elements, and post-apocalyptic elements, all at once. No doubt that works against the setting, in some sense, because you don't get the feeling that it always coheres.
I think part of it is that I like the idea of a Good which it is implied is as oppressive as the Evil which is being fought - a theme that, perhaps unfortunately, is not so well developed. The main characters are all pretty 'edgy' (in ways that now seem pretty dated)...this was written in the early 90s, where you could play a character who rode a motorcycle and looked like Bon Jovi.
Irony doesn't seem to play a major part in this setting, for better or for worse. There may not be any room for irony in pulp literature. I haven't given this much thought, though.

looks interesting. I'll check it out when I come back from work.
Thanks for the storytime, anon. /tg/ storytimes are the best.
Bumping for Wormwood. It's my favorite Rifts setting.
