What happened to them?
The design team didn't like them so they killed them
>>49764056
Eaten and blowed up.
>>49764056
They all spontaneously vanished out of existence.
>>49764056
they squatted
Talk about what? You just posted a blank image.
this thread has been squatted. let's move on to a more interesting topic.
>>49764056
They have suffered the same ignoble end as quests on /tg/; snuffed out by incompetent middle management who didn't know how to deal with what they were handling.
>>49765949
along with people who just had to scream for years so that they could make /tg/ their 'perfect' /tg/.
>>49765949
Spoken like a true newfag.
>>49765994
if he was a newfag then hew wouldn't have known all these truth displayed apon you
>>49765994
Yeah, mods aren't analogous to middle management at all.
They're not managers, and also not salaried. His comparison is literal buckfuck dirt shit.
>>49764056
There's a reason squat is a verb. Fluff wise it's assumed that they've effectively been replaced by the Demiurge.

>Fluff wise it's assumed that they've effectively been replaced by the Demiurge.
who were these guys again?
>>49766057
Reclusive space miners/artisans introduced in Battlefleet Gothic. There's a Jes Goodwin concept of them that's basically a space dwarf.
>>49766081

The inept unenlightened creators of the universe; whose greed and short sightedness are the foundation of suffering in our material verse. Christian gnostic esoterics claim that the god of the old testement is the one true demiurge; however taken broadly the demiurges can be the representation of material folly, the source of corruption of mortality, and until reconized, the jam in the gears of human efforts, it usually manifests as the debased failures us and our fears.

what's the meaning of this
>>49766604Honestly I never finished the game but shit goes bad really bad. The reason I posted the follow up picture is because all the other photos I wanted to use have IGN watermarks, and there was a remote possibiltity that you could be female to make the image creepy. The reference is cargo quest for gravity a game which Ice pick lodge created to make a simple fun game not steeped in symbolism and forcing replay and study. What we got was a meh physics game about gnosticism and christian symbology. The demiurges in the game are masks that might portray the emotions of a being/beings that attempt to manipulate you in a characteristic way. If you want to deal with this shit I would recommend the pathologic remake and to make it /tg/ I am getting their new boardgame
Sorry for the delay, I am on my phone.

Eaten by Nids due to the people back then not knowing what to do with them, but 6th Edition brought them back as a background abhuman race. And not in the extinct category to boot.
>>49764056
Probably because they were removed from the game before the average 40k player was even born?
>>49767162
>Eaten by Nids due to the people back then not knowing what to do with them,
No, 'Eaten by Nids' due to the Squats' original designer having a falling out with other studio members. After said Squats designer left GW, no one else wanted to bother with them. Once GW decided to retcon a lot of the classic RT era fluff as well, they didn't really fit the 'new' 40K grim-derp backstory anymore either.
>>49765949
Quests reaped what they sowed, ignobility.
>>49767188
>tfw there are kiddies in your local who weren't born until after Tau were introduced
I just find kind of weird they kept Ogryns and Rattlings though those were units Sqauts were an entire army I feel like if GW just made them some sort of engineer demolition experts it would work
>>49767688
>tfw there are kiddies in your local who were born in 2004 and 05
>>49767699
There's an interview floating around somewhere where they explain why they were cut. It boils down to Squats having a niche in Epic with their huge siege engines, but brought nothing to the table in 40k. No one wanted to write the army book for them, no one was inspired to make them better. No one in the studio liked them.
>>49764056
We already have space Orcs and space Elves, we don't need space Dwarves.
>>49767836
Exactly who would want a full ogryn or rattling army if they were smart they could have just added them as a unit in IG
if you really want to you can field genestealer cults as squats: what with all their mining gear and whatnot. Just obviously don't take metamorphs or purestrains.
>>49764056
Well-sculpted but badly-handled. A pity, really.
>>49764056
>Wha hapn
Systemic ignorance and apathy: No one in the studio sees why they should ever do anything they don't wanna, and they didn't wanna honour their promise to publish a Space Dorf codex in 3rd ed - so they didn't. Simple as that. Jervis characterised this as a lack of creativity on the part of the studio's "creative types" without immediately keeling-over from iron poisoning. True story.
Ref how whenever mgt pulls the studio wogs away from their pet Space Marines and Eldar to support some new models, we get a zero-effort pasta Codex like Nids, Orks or CSM. It's hard for people with real jobs to understand, but this is truly how that place is run.
Then, in a typical GW gesture of community outreach, when expo devs tired of being constantly asked when they'd nut-up and do their fucking jobs, the company published the - totally canon - report that all Squats everywhere suddenly disappeared so stop reminding us how popular they are shut up, Shut Up, SHUT UP!
How creative ...
Imagine if midget space bikers had been made an IG regiment instead of one of those Perry historical lines with the numbers filed off - they'd have been getting their Epic superheavies in 28mm from FW and Citadel for the last two editions.
tfw metal doormen and Finecast(tm) steppe ponies but no plastic Land Train.

> Squats: Reimagined
> DAoT humans colonised central space, high gravity worlds and physics playgrounds. Leads to dwarfism, high tech and mining focus
> 'Nids arrive and eat them. Imperium abandons the Squat worlds as lost causes
> Desperate survival fights, weaponize mining equipment to hold back, flee underground and nuke surface
> Survivors despise the Imperium for abandoning them, leave fallout world on massive mining vessels
Army of 2 halves: Dwarfian warriors with high tech and DAoT physics, and Mad Max survivalists.
Dwarf elements include mag weapons, shield tech, drone AI, grav weapons etc.
Mad Max elements include bikers, tunnel rat ambushers, grief-lost berzerkers and technical truck equivalents.
Promote Superheavy usage in standard FOC, mobile mining rigs turned into command centres.
Ancestor
Engineer
Runelord
Fightin warriors
Gutter rat survivalists
Underground ambush miners
Slayers
Exo-Armour
Sappers
Bikers
Technicals

SupCom Fatboy

Colossus Walker
Overlord Helicarrier
Tanks
Shield generator arrays
There is definitely enough to make them a real faction, hopefully without stepping on any toes.
30K still has them, and depending on your opponent you can use the rules in 40K. Use the Militias and Cults list and take the abhuman helots trait. You can get old squats online, use ones from Hasslefree and Mantic, or convert regular Dwarfs.
>>49766013
If he wasn't one, he'd know why quests were killed.
There' some decent offbrand models out there.
But are there bikers?
>>49764056
They're too good for 40k.
>>49765949
Being butthurt about quests when there is an entire quest board now. The mind boggles.

They also felt that as they were written, they were both failing to do the Dwarf archetype justice, while also not bringing anything new and exciting in its place. Necrons were space egyptian undead, but with a little Lovecraft flavor added on top. Orks are a nice SF rendition of Orcs. Eldar fit the Elf archetype, while also having their own weirdness and philosophy boiled in to make them a little bit more Melnibonean than Tolkien.
The Squats were pretty close to 1-for-1 Space Dwarfs, but extra lacking in dignity. Their name is a shorthand for poop. They're midgets riding tricycles. They still hate Orks and drink a lot. Probably the closest they got to something cool was their Faberge egg armor.
I feel like the Demiurge are going in a good direction, hitting a lot of the notes of "Dwarves" while also being a weird, SF take on that. Admittedly, there's not very much fluff on them, but what is hinted at sounds interesting.
>>49774164
The problem about the Demiurge is that they hardly stand out amongst the rest of the Tau. They aren't the hungry Kroot, their high tech isn't anything super exceptional by Tau standards, etc. They're miners but aside from being Dorfs, they're just about any other Tau each.
