What was he?

And why is he so underrated in the grand scheme of things?
>>
>>49746896
An old Illuminati who was bros with a physical god.

He's underrated because A: the Emps ignored him on the most important issues, and B: his three major contributions to the Imperium (Administratum, Inquisition, Assassinorum), while VERY good at keeping the fractured Imperium alive for another 10,000 years, have all been warped into shitshows just like the rest of the Imperium.

If the Emperor is the guy who started the fire, Malcador is the one that ensures it rises

In the same way that the Emperor was the collective souls of the Old World's ancient Shamans and Wisemen, so too was Malacdor the Sigilite, only he was orders of magnitude lower in number. In old lore it is said that the majority of them took poison to be reborn as The New Man, those that were unable to make the journey to the ritual place did so at a later date and so were born as the Lesser Man, greatly powerful and wise beyond man, but a fraction of The God-Emperor.

There greatest moment was when they held back the demons of the Warp while the Emperor brought to heel his wicked son, Horus. They rejoiced as for the first time in centuries they would at last commune and be one with their brother shamans and be whole again, as they had always wanted.

Seems like there must have been some corroboration between being a wiser shaman and taking longer to reincarnate. The Emperor got all of the power with none of the common sense, while Malcador was a bit more balanced, if weaker.

Malacdor has the stronger mind, but his body is failing and weak. The Emperor had a glorious body but his mind was still growing and shaping.

If you don't know what he was, you can't claim he was underrated.

Malcador was an afterthought shoehorned into the fluff the way Arkhan Land was. 86% of 40k canon is shitty puns and middle school Ow The Edge (loldemmissing legions) by international law. There is no "grand scheme at BL or GW" so the Malcador character is exactly as hamfisted and ill-considered in the setting as it seems.

A big chunk of his power. The perpetuals in general are the ones born from the mass suicides of ancient shaman types.

If the torso armor sat higher up on her, there would be a bit more length to it, and come out to a better proportion particularly with less T-Rex arm. But perplexingly, the torso armor sits low - unusually low - below her collarbone and almost at the tip of where cleavage would start. Hence my comment.

Actualy, those two don't contradict each other. It has been stated many times before, that the Emperor bargained with the Chaos Gods to create primarchs, but did so as an incredibly powerful, godlike human. When the Emperor traveled to Molech the Primarchs ware already alive. So he must have been a powerful godlike being capable of bargaining with the true Gods before that.

I personally like the idea that Malcador was a perpetual who witnessed the mass suicide of Mankind's first psychic-resonant people to create the gestalt spirit that was the Emperor, and resolved that he would guide this new being to create a better world for all mankind rather than be a lonely hidden outcast like the perpetuals themselves.

Reasons for not kicking off the plan before the Age of Strife include: Emperor took a long time to mature into his powers, perhaps spent tens of thousands of years not being able to grasp all he was, so Malcador aided him in hiding.

Head-canon of mine: Ollanius Persson is a Catholic Christian even in 30k because in his perpetual life he saw lots of psychic stuff and weird alien madness and human brilliance, but he only saw Jesus perform miracles.
>>
>>49758079
The Catholic Church was not founded by the people closes to Jesus, though. It was formed by Paul to be more inclusive than the Christians sects that prefered to stay off the radar. So his faith would really be based around a second hand experience.
>>
>>49758011
Perpetuals a shit lore. I wouldn't be surprised if Malcador was a split-off from the Emperor himself - the big E needed someone to handle the affairs of state while he was campaigning and sciencing, so he poured some of his pyschic might and most of his political savy into Malcador.
>>
>>49758654
Not him, but I like the idea of perpetuals. I just think that BL went a little nuts with them and fucked up the primary story elements with them. It just ended up becoming the midichlorians of the setting and a crutch to explain mysteries that didn't need explaining because it ruins the mystery.

Otherwise I like that they ripped off Highlander, but with less decapitations. Having someone ancient seeing everything slowly become even worse over the millennias, but with very little influence over the events is a cool idea.

BL just sucks at executing ideas.

>What the hell kinda bargain would the Big E have been able to make to get god-level power with none of the Chaos side-effects?
Someone clearly hasn't read any of the novels.

The Emperor used a 1-way space ship to travel to Molech, where he encountered the Ruinous Powers. They offered him power in exchange for all the insane shit chaos gods want. He decided to steal the power instead, run away, and used it to make the Primarchs. As revenge, the Ruinous Powers decided to scatter his sons across the stars, turn as many of them against their father as possible, and kill the bastard who swindled them.

Before the Emperor reached Molech he was literally just a man. A charismatic genius and a powerful psyker, but still just a human warlord from anatolia with some genecrafted supersoldiers.
>>
>>49751088

>>
>>49759686
>Doesn't make any sense

>>
>>49759702
He was already doing God level stuff before that.

I guess we should just write it off as another one of the badly written horus heresy books, which like to use the "Well it's the chaos cultists outlook of course they get it wrong and evil" as a shield.
>>
>>49759271
>That Prometheus parallel

>>
>>49759752
>He was already doing God level stuff before that.
According to who, though?
>>
>>49751980
Vulkan was an artificial Perpetual created by the Emperor. The Eldar created artificial ones too, like John Grammaticus.
>>
>>49758079
Perpetual stuff is an interesting idea, but it cheapens Ollanius Pius, as he would not, in fact, be a normal person.

He'd have lived many lifetimes by then, and giving away your life when you've already said and done pretty much everything isn't the same as when you're a scared kid who's just started out life and ended up stuck in trouble, only to have to make a pretty tough decision about how to spend your life in the next few seconds.

Headcanon: Pius was the last remaining practicing Catholic (in secret), who's struggling with the contradiction of following/serving the Emperor while knowing he's banned his religion. Should he continue to serve a potential tyrant? Can he really accept his faith when everything has gone so horribly wrong?

In the end, he goes through traumatic and character developing events that not only help him reaffirm his faith, but make him truly risk giving his life for the betterment of man.
>>
>>49760104

That should show you how strong Horus is, which is the whole point!

I mainly don't like it because perpetuals seem to have just kind of become a weird snippet of the lore that aren't well-represented, more or less disappearing after HH. It feels like a cheap plot point to churn out more books than something that was ever supposed to be a strong part of the lore.

But most of all, it seems to be part of a larger reinterpretation of the Emperor - that he was a dickbag perpetual who just happened to decide to try and conquer an empire, instead of a super-shaman human-made protector of humanity, that went a bit fucked up in their attempts to fulfill their ordained duty.

Sure, I get 40k is grimdark, and nothing is more grimdark than finding out a great and well-loved figure was actually a jackass. But if there was never anything good about the Imperium from the get-go, almost no real heroes worth rooting for even back during the glorious times, I feel like I have no reason to care about what happens in the setting at all, you know?
>>
>>49760295
part of the HH failings is trying to explain the events that would have otherwise remained mysterious legends, open to interpretations and ambiguity.

When Muv-Luv Alternative finally got translated back in 2011, when combined with the 2012 anime Total Eclipse, /a/ and /m/ threads were overrun with Frodo threads asking "Why don't they use X against BETA?"

Alternative Committees are basically a secret organization within the UN descended from their universe's version of Majestic-12 to come up with strategies to ensure mankind's survival against invading aliens.
>>
>>49759782
There is nothing that actually counters his old status.
In fact, older fluff already hinted he made a pact with the Chaos gods for the secret to creating super powered living beings (the Primarches) in exchange for using them to forward their agenda, and when he reneged on them, they couldn't destroy them, but scattered them beyond his reach.
The new fluff is seized by trolls and chaosfags to claim the Emperor wasn't anything of note, despite their claim being entirely ambiguous as Alpharuis' background.
