How many dice do you like in your sets, /tg/?

The traditional 7? The luxurious 10?
>>
>>49701721
That set of 8 makes my autism rage. No one needs the larger dice and the lack of extra d6s and the percentile d10 makes me angry.
>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

>>49701721
Coins only.
>>
>>49701721
>>49701733
Pretty much what first anon said. I rarely, if ever, use d30s, and I always carry around at least 3 d6s.
>>
Rolled 2, 4 = 6 (2d6)

>>49701721
how does that 4 sided pyramid dice even work?
>>
I like blocks of 6d6.

For mixed sets, d6, d8, d12, d20. You can get a d3, d4, d5, and d10 just by rolling the other dice.
>>
>>49701764
Really? How can you not know how a d4 works?

The number on the bottom is the number rolled. There are some variations with the numbers on the top/point instead, but the basic idea is the same.
>>
d4, d6, d8, d10, d%, and d20 are the most commonly used dice, so every set needs at least one of each imo.

If you're gonna have more, extra d6s are probably the most commonly useful to have, followed by d20s and d10s.
>>
>>49701764

You flip it.
>>
>>49701721
Have you ever seen a game that uses a d24?
>>
>>49701764
You read the bottom number. There is another kind of d4 where the numbers are at the corners and you read the number from the topmost corner.
>>
>>49702106
Useful number for randomising time.

>>49701878
The dude used "dice" as singular.

Ideal set:
2d20, 2d10, 1d12, 2d8, 4d6, 2d4 (prism)
>>
>>49702337
>The dude used "dice" as singular.
So? I know it's "wrong" but I do this too.
>>
>>49701721
My personal preference? 5d4, 6d6, 4d8, 4d10, 2 'tens place' d10s, 2d12, 2d20 is generally enough for the games I play.

Dice should have simple text, not embellished with designs or strange fonts that hinder readability. It can be helpful to have multiple colors of dice when you wish to roll for multiple things simultaneously ("red die is one roll, blue die is the other"). You get style points for using a matching set, but having many kinds of dice is a mark of an experienced gamer, as one unavoidably loses and gains dice over years of gaming.

When GMing, I prefer a set of black dice with red text. It makes me feel sinister.
>>
>>49702433
Yet you're surprised that he didn't know how a d4 works?

Also, it's not ""wrong"", it's wrong. Ideally we should at least have basic English down.
>>
>>49702501
yeah fuck off autist it's a word that doesn't follow regular rules and not everyone is a native speaker
>>
>>49702433
it's not "wrong". It is wrong, unless you have a die-in-a-die.

as far as my set, I usually have a bag of green dice to lend and play with my own assortment of 5 d20s, 5 D6, 3 D4, 2 d10, 1 d10 percentile, 3 d12, 2 d8.

I always keep spares of dice handy in case a die starts to misbehave. Also having a d10 and percentile that match and having another d10 in a different color is a convenient 1000 roll, without having to find a 100s place die or something, not that that usually comes up
>>
>>49702501
I didn't say it was ""wrong"". I said it was "wrong". Which is what it arguably is. But I use it anyway.
>>
>>49702570
it isn't arguably "wrong".
it is factually wrong.
>>
>>49702556
>all these grammatical errors
>>
>>49702623
never ever complain about someone's grammar without fucking up your own to trigger someone else.
>>
>>49702650
That's a sentence fragment.
>>
>>49702678
>tfw implied subjects
>>
>>49702725
That's a sentence fragment too.
>>
>>49701721

Depends on what I am playing.

I bring whatever dice I think I am going to need for the character, plus a bunch of extra d6, because you can never have too many d6.

You need 18 dice like this, minimum.

go back to rlyeh, and take your non euclidean abominations with you.

>luxurious 10

If a 10-pack included 1d4, 4d6, a d8, d10, d%, d12 and d20, I'd buy and recommend those sets.
>>
>>49701764
>that 4 sided pyramid dice
What the fuck are you doing posting on /tg/?
>>
>>49704876
I just put down 30 bucks on 15 complete sets of 10 just like you said

Can't wait to get them in
>>
>>49701721
Optimal collection for someone who plays most popular systems.

5 x d4 (possibly more now that Magic Missile scales so much higher)
10 x d6 (possibly 20 if you play stuff like Shadowrun or any wargames. I just get the 36 Chessex sets)
2 x d8
2 x d10 (either a d10 and d%, or two different colored d10's, or as much as 10 if you play WW and similar systems)
2 x d12
1 x d20, or 2 if you play D&D 5e

You should never need more than that.
>>
>>49701721
A tablet that everybody at the table uses to roll is best. Nobody can cheat and it's also used to play music. Win Win Win
>>
>>49705009
The key difference with win win win is that I also win for having mediated a workplace conflict.
>>
>>49701721

>not having a box of dice

>limiting yourself to one of each type

filthy player
>>
I've only ever used the traditional 7 dice, though I did have one of those golf ball d100s I bought at GenCon one year.
>>
>>49702501
>>49702556
>>49702593
We're about seven years into dictionaries publishing 'dice' as both the singular noun and the plural noun. Words change. I used to get annoyed when people used 'literally' to mean figuratively, but that's been updated too, so we grammarians have no leg to stand on.
>>
>>49705939
Yep, it's sad. I just told someone the other day that "addicting" is not a legitimate word (in my defense, the proper word IS "addictive"), and she pretty much told me to look it up in a dictionary. Ok, so it might be "acceptable" now, but I will never accept that damn word. It makes me cringe.
>>
>>49705939
>seven years

Oh.
We have failed.

>'literally' to mean figuratively, but that's been updated too

You're fucking killing me.
>>
>>49702241
I like those more, everyother dice is read from the top and it irks me that a d4 is read from the bottom
>>
>>49701721
I picked up 2 copies of a 7-set I liked, plus a brick of d6es, and that does me just fine.

I also have a bunch of others, but that's just because I like dice.
>>
depends on the game, since D&D uses the most different kinds of dice:

1d4 (unless I'm a wizard, then I grab xd4 where x is how many magic missiles I can do)
3d6 (unless I'm casting spells, then it's xd6 for level)
1d8
2d10
0d12 (unless barbarian)
2d20
>>
>using a system that can't be done with d6s only

Why, though.

I only use d6 and only ones with pips. The numeral being printed on it looks terrible and wrong to me.
>>
>>49701721
>bunch of weird useless dice
>that retarded d4 with numbers on bottom
Shitty set, desu.
>>
>>49701721
4
2d6
8
2d10
12
20

So 8 at least, and I might want another 2d6 in there.
>>
>>49702678
I suppose it might be; however, it's an imperative. Imperative sentences ALWAYS have different rules to non-imperative sentences, irrespective of the language (to the best of my knowledge).
>>
d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20

And then a bunch of extra d6.
>>
>>49701721
Ideal for me would probably be regular 7 + extra d6, 10 and 20.
Since I'm not autistic I don't particularly care about having a matching set so I just have a drawstring bag with probably at least 4 of each that I take to games.
And because I'm DMing from behind a laptop I use an app to roll anyway, the dice are for players who don't have any.
