What exactly happens to souls in 40k is kinda up in the air. In the most grimdark conversations people assume everyone goes to hell, other times your soul just dissolves back into warp energy, or (if you're VERY faithful/a sacrificed psyker) combined with the Emperor.

Even what souls ARE is iffy. Sometimes they're your bog standard ghost, sometimes they're your emotions, and sometimes they're just magic energy. Evidenced by non-indoctrinated blanks being not too much different behaviorally than normal humans save for "feeling wrong".

Also even among characters in 40k who don't have particularly strong faith in the Emps, but are aware of Chaos, never seem to mind nobly sacrificing themselves, and Chaos Champions never bother to go "Oh yeah, we have your buddy's soul currently, ha ha!"

Even the Eldar, who's gimmick you'd think would be is that they're all damned, are iffy on how souls work. Sometimes Slaanesh is just described as "consuming" Eldar souls. And the Eldar are shown to fear cessation of existence as much as pain, so what exactly happens to them on entering the warp is fuzzier than you'd think. Not to mention if the Eldar's gimmick IS that they go to hell upon death, why would this be such a talking point if that's ALSO the case for humans?

However, there IS one guaranteed way to make sure your soul WILL get thrown into some daemon-prison upon your death, no questions about it, and that's worshiping Chaos. The Chaos Gods have complete control over their followers souls, to do with however they please. Torture, resurrect, eat, anything.

Really souls, Chaos, and the Warp in 40k all work on rule of interesting first and foremost. So if you're a Chaos worshiper, try and scare your enemies by saying you'll drag them to hell. If you're an Imperial, keep faith by saying you'll join the Emps.

Moral of the story? Play Orks. Because Imperial and Chaos-fags are insufferable in fluff and crush and Orks never take such debates seriously.
