What are some systems where your PC can die really fucking fast?

I know the new Delta Green system and Dark Heresy/Only War are up there, but are there any that are even more lethal?

Cyberpunk 2020.
>>
Traveller.

In the old version you could even die during character generation.

Warhammer fantasy Roleplay. It's a little more simplified than Dark Heresy, but it's just as lethal.

Also The Dark Eye is pretty damn lethal. The 5th edition is out in PDF in English with more to come soon (hopefully).

Read that as Warhammer fantasy roleplay 2e.

OD&D

At some point I think it goes from "lethal" to "don't go outside or you'll fall over in a slight breeze"

What makes WHFRP feel brutal isn't the chance of instant death... it's the suffering. You can survive combat only to die from infection a week later. Or you might survive with permanent disabilities, and only after weeks of healing. The Fate Points keep you alive, but you usually run out even as you grow in power, so you have this constant reminder that if you continue living by the sword, eventually you'll die by it, no matter how powerful you become.

There is nothing remotely fast about either of those systems, dude.

Silhouette.
Average, unarmoured humans outright dies if they take 50 damage or more.
Final Damage = Weapon Damage x Margin of Success.
Some weapons do over 25 damage. So you die if your opponent beats you by 2 or more.

Good news is that since it runs on d6, modifiers matter a lot, so your choices in flanking, flashbangs, cover, range, ganging up etc. mean a lot.

>>49657748
Runequest/ Basic Roleplaying. A lucky/ skilled blow can cripple or kill a character.

My nigger.

What do you run? Heavy Gear? Jovian Chronicles?
Tribe 8?
This fucking game right here. Instead of using dice, conflict resolution is handled by having players pull from a Jenga tower. The tower falls, you die. Simple.
>>
Shadow of the Demon Lord, though the character creation is very fast/fun so it's nice in that regard.
>>
>>49659997
>so close to quads.

I've been reading the Heavy Gear rulea and it looks cool, I just don't have the time to learn all that mech combat.

>>49659011
Song of Swords looks lethal as hell. Taking damage fucks you up hard with major debuffs to everything you do (that stack).

I like Into The Odd's wound rules. Damage comes out of your Strength stat (3d6?). After take damage, make a Strength save or fall unconscious.

Since weapons usually do about D8 damage, a good hit can drop your STR from 13 down to 5, giving you only a 25% chance of staying on your feet.

I'm using a variant of that system in a dark fantasy homebrew and I had a PC drop from one crossbow bolt to the back.

I've run all 3. Though T8 is hard cause it can go magical realm if not handled well, especially if you have Sangis involved.

>I've been reading the Heavy Gear rulea and it looks cool, I just don't have the time to learn all that mech combat.
The vehicle combat rules are basically for a wargame and are too detailed for an RPG session. I play a fair bit looser with the rules when running HG/JC.

ORE can be depending on the type. You have 4 hits to the naked head and something like a great sword can do width+1 killing + width shock, minimum width in a hit is 2, which adds up to 3k+2s or becaue of the shock overflow an instant kill.

Moral of the story is wear a fucking helmet in combat.

>>49658060
I've been playing basic and it feels insanely brutal. My level 1 guy has 2 hp. I can get one shotted easily. If I roll max on hp for level 2, I can still get 1 shotted by a 1HD enemy. Just not as easily.

The old Rolemaster games with their insane critical hit tables were savage. It didn't matter how boss you were, cause you're just one bad roll from a humilating and gruesome death.

>>49663702
Also this
"Takes three hours to make a character, takes three minutes to kill them" was an old meme about T2K
>>
>>49659221
Sure there is. How fast my sanity slips away from me if I have to play them.
>>
>>49663118
Did you ever run Gear Krieg or Core Command?

What's the thing with Sangis?
>>
>>49657748
Basically any BRP-based game (CoC, Elric, Hawkmoon, Runequest, Pendragon). Cyberpunk 2020. GURPS. Recon. Paranoia. Sengoku. Twilight 2000.
>>
>>49657748
Lamantation of the Flame Princess.
That game has traps and monsters that are meant to fuck with a PC so hard.

Ironclaw is pretty savage if your rolls are unfavorable.
