What makes Nurgle so chill and fun to be around, while the other chaos gods are all dicks and cunts to their followers?
>>
>>49577762
Good humor. Read the lore.
>>
>>49577762
Khorne's domain is strength, which values the fiercest and most powerful.
Tzeentch's domain is trickery, which values the most intelligent and cunning
Slaanesh's domain is indulgence, which values the most depraved and luxurious.
Nurgle's domain is death, which comes to all beings equally.
>>
You'll be rotting inside-out, oozing pus and shit out of every orifice, racked with coughs, cramps and spasms, burning up with fever, your entire body agonizingly inflamed, every joint screaming at you at the nearest movement, your head throbbing with pain indescribable, and so on and so on waaaaay past nauseam.

It's utter hell, and the only ones who can kinda hack it are those who, mostly, manage to fool themselves into thinking they like it.

Mostly.

What would an all out war between Nurgle and Khorne look like?

>>49577840
Nurgle's blessing means you feel none of it
>>
>>49577826
>Nurgle's domain is death, which comes to all beings equally.
No it doesn't. An Eldar's death isn't comparable to an Ork's death.
>>
>>49577859
Most demon fluff is well beyond my knowledge, but Khorne sort of epitomises striking hard and fast and being the first guy to get into the thick of it. While Nurgle is the slow, continuous march towards total entropy. Khorne would win any battle, but if he didn't get the job done Nurgle would inevitably win the war.
>>
I think he's happy due to the fact that in the end he wins no matter what.
>>
>>49577902
At the end of the day, they'll all wind up in the ground as food for the worms, it might take 10 years or 100 years. But all Nurgle sees them for is decaying biological matter to give host to more diseases. Except in a jovial grandfatherly sort of way.
>>
>>49577762
It's a bit of a meme and a myth that Nurgle is a fun god, and has been perpetuated by 40k fans for years.

People get this idea from the fact that Nurgle's daemons are usually very jovial fellows, assuming Nurgle's servants must be equally cheerful. But Pink Horrors generally are cheerful and excitable, and we all know that the Thousand Sons aren't necessarily whooping with glee about anything.

The mortal servants of Nurgle tend to actually be depressed or nihilistic. The Death Guard are ashamed at how far they've fallen, and want to drag the rest of the universe down to their level. The Purge want to cleanse the universe of all life. Nurgle does not want his servants to feel joy; the emotion he primarily feeds on is despair.
>>
>>49577941
Death is more than physical in 40K.
>>
>>49577977
Yes but its a safe bet that Nurgle only encompasses the physical aspect of death and decay. Anything regarding souls has a slew of other hurdles to go through.
>>
>>49577946
Well the fact remains that, whether or not they have moments of joviality or not, all the servants of Chaos are unabashedly evil. They slaughter millions and commit the worst atrocities, no matter what their twisted philosophies say.

Also they all look like fresh hell on toast.
>>
>>49577946
Wouldn't it make more sense to base Nurgle's personality on his actual warp born minions than the humans who worship him from a distance? Also a few stories paint him as a genuinely decent guy.

>"Ku'Gath was once a Nurgling sitting upon the shoulder of Nurgle. Whilst Nurgle was mixing his most virulent toxin ever, Ku'Gath tumbled from his nesting place into the cauldron, where he took a great draught of the filthy contents and swelled with its power. Invigorated, Ku'Gath drank and drank until the cauldron was nearly empty and he had grown into a Great Unclean One. Nurgle laughed at the antics of his Nurgling, who had become the embodiment of the perfect disease that had been bubbling within the cauldron. Ku'Gath, however, realised that he had robbed his father of the greatest disease ever concocted; and has since been wandering the universe, searching for the perfect ingredients to recreate the toxin for Nurgle. He also captures those whom his diseases corrupt and take them back to his lair, where he can observe their degeneration more closely."
>>
>>49577840
Read the lore. Accepting nurgle and joining his ranks means you feel none of the pain, you actually rather like your new pussy gaping wound, that rash you have feels good, that infection looks pretty and feeling soothing
>>
>>49577762
The other three are pursuit of a goal and improvement of self. This makes them a rat race.

Nurgle is "it literally cannot get any worse, this is fine".
>>
>>49578094
But he's obviously not chill and fun to be around if his mortal servants are usually dour and depressed.
>>
>>49578218
they laugh on the inside
>>
>>49578218
There are two sides to Nurgle, both reactions to death. There's the jovial "ah well, can't change my fate, might as well enjoy my stagnation" side of Nurgle, and then there's the "oh woe is me all is ugly and doomed" side of Nurgle.

The former is usually the personality of Nurglings, GUOs, Papa himself, and Champions. The latter for Plaguebearers, and the forcibly-converted.
>>
>>49578218
You gotta remember

1: Mortarion and the Death Guard were notoriously sombre and gloomy well before the Horus Heresy.

2: Being dour and depressed is quite a common theme amongst most humans in 40k.

And don't confuse being dour and depressed with just being apathetic, which if you're a living embodiment of the eventual decay of all life and the entropy of the universe, is probably an easy thing to fall into.

No because I have more qualifications than "has titties" for attraction.

Incidentally, how do Nurgle and the Nightbringer match up? Technically the Nightbringer is kinda Grandfather Nurgle's father, if he originally put fear of death into mortals and that fear was eventually a big factor in spawning Nurgle.

>There is a house of decay at the centre of Nurgle’s Garden. Its wracked and twisted structure creaks and groans under the influence of baleful toxic winds. Shutters cling just barely to window frames only half filled with broken panes of filth covered glass. Sewage drains spill forth beetles, maggots, and twisted centipedes with only tongues for their bodies and human fingers for legs. Paint continually cracks and peels away from the wood beneath, yet the house never loses it grey-green hue. Along the roof, hundreds of chimneys bellow out dark clouds that, upon close inspection, are composed of millions of floating, buzzing flies.

>All around this house, trees made of bone bear fruit that rots even as it swells. The leafless boughs of these ancient trees provide shelter for daemonic birds that sing the funeral dirges of any unwelcome visitor. It is a house of pestilence, rot, and death. This is Nurgle’s Mansion, and that means that it is also a place of hope and renewal. There can be no explanation for the strength that keeps this structure from collapse save that it is the dwelling place of the Lord of All, whose boundless energy, sense of eternal purpose, and limitless joy for his work finds perfect peace with the inevitability of decay.

>Nurgle himself often sits in a massive chair just to the side of the mansion’s front door. From there he entreats visitors, both summoned and unexpected, to approach, share tales and questionable libations, and explore the countless rooms within. Inside the vast structure, a guest could easily become lost. Rotten floorboards send many to a doom of slow consumption by the carrion feeders that dwell in the lower levels. Grand staircases decorated with moth-eaten rugs beckon to wandering souls, leading them to chambers where daemons are glad to receive new, fresh flesh.

Sounds like a party

>Nurgle is unlike the other Ruinous Powers in many ways, including how he views his domain within the Realm of Chaos. Khorne, for instance, rarely leaves his throne, barking orders to his generals from atop a mound of skulls. Slaanesh watches the happenings of his kingdom from within his palace or wanders the universe seeking to tempt mortals into giving up their souls to satisfy his hunger. Tzeentch seems to not care much at all for the state of his warped and fractured lands, spending his time plotting and interfering with affairs in realms beyond his own. Nurgle, on the other hand, cherishes the beauty and surprises of his Garden. He routinely takes strolls down its twisted paths, cavorting with his daemons and stopping to observe as one of his diseases takes its toll on a wounded captive. Nurgle is in touch with his land and its many regions.

Because if I had to pick an emotion to describe Stasis, it'd be contentment. Despair and nihilism both imply a desire to see things change; the guttering sparks of a crushed hope that things could be better. But once you're content, you don't even have that. Nothing needs to change.

>>
>>49579587
Well not quite. Chaos gods are essentially thoughts and emotions given form, and what people expect and want manifest in them. People who are inflicted with deadly diseases and fear of death probably mostly hope of things like "make it stop hurting" and "I have so much left I want to do" and such.

I really don't picture fear of death with acceptance. Nurgle makes the pain stop, and you don't die, and so you are free to enjoy life with your deadly disease spreading and bringing others to Nurgle's fold. In fact, if you accept your death and welcome it, it doesn't sustain Nurgle in any way.

>>49579697
>>49579726
Despair =/= sadness. Despair = hopelessness.
Someone who accepts their fate and welcomes it is the very definition of despair. They have completely abandoned hope for the future, and accepted their fate.
The fact that they are happy and jovial proves this. When you've abandoned all hope, and realized that your grief accomplishes nothing, you can finally enjoy what little time you have left in your life.
>>
>>49579830

Not at all. Someone who accepts their fate may be a sign of resignment, not desperation. You don't go into despair if you have nothing to live for; desperation breeds from desire to live.
>>
>>49579830
That sounds more like resigning yourself to your lot. Despairing would be understanding that you are somehow worse off than others in some way, or lesser.
>>
>>49577859

Khorne declares war Nurgle agrees but his followers never come to any battles and his phone is blocked.
>>
>>49579851
>>49580021
I'm assuming that none of you have spent much time around the terminally ill (god forbid), but they are not the kind of people you'd describe as depressed.

In the last stages of his cancer, my great-uncle Alec used to lie down on a beige carpet in the sun, and imagine he was sunning himself on the beach. He enjoyed the precious moments he had, and still cracked jokes, all the way to the end.
Before she also died of cancer, my great-aunt Amy spent her last few weeks living with my mom and dad in Europe. Before she passed on, she bought huge flower arrangements, put them all over the house, and surrounded herself with beauty. If I remember the story correctly, she also danced with my dad once or twice before her death.

When you know you're gonna die soon, and you abandon all hope for being saved, you do NOT become some dour and depressed shut in who does nothing but cry and wait for death; you enjoy what little time you have left.
>>
>>49580282
But that doesn't sound like despair, and that's what Nurgle's all about.
>>
>>49577762

>Loves you

>Grants you resistance to damage

>Grants you inmortality

>Grants you numbness to pain

He's the most amiable force in the galaxy.
>>
>>49580282

But that doesn't make any sense. If he accepts his death and has fun regardless, he neither despairs nor fears death, and so doesn't feed Nurgle.

>When you know you're gonna die soon, and you abandon all hope for being saved, you do NOT become some dour and depressed shut in who does nothing but cry and wait for death; you enjoy what little time you have left.

But the dour and depressed shut-ins are the ones who give Nurgle essence.

Thing about Khorne's war music that makes it different from Slaanesh is it needs to A: have a beat you can march/drive to, and B: consist of instruments that can double as melee weapons (giant drums, axe guitars).

>THE DREGS

>The Dregs are a quiet corner of Nurgle’s vast garden. No paths lead here, and there is certainly no way out, for it is surrounded by stranglespines and stingleaves. It remains a place of shame.

>When Nurgle’s mortal followers are slain, some are returned to the Dregs. In this quarter of his vast garden, they wallow in the knowledge that they were felled in combat. It is a depressing, swamp-like place, a quagmire of failures. Eventually, they may be returned once again to the mortal realm, but there are those here too who are doomed to remain forever. Among these lost souls are a small few who turned traitor to Nurgle, seduced by other gods, and have prevented his loyal minions from spreading disease. Other have failed spectacularly to follow Nurgle’s orders, losing precious vials of pestilence or spilling rare plagues on dead worlds. Even those who were once the most accomplished servants receive no mercy when they have raised Nurgle’s ire, and are doomed indefinitely to associate themselves with creatures far beneath their own standing. They remain here in a state of decay until they are forgotten.
