>they look like toys with the white/red.
The problem is that the WS scheme doesn't use complementary colors - the white is either neutral or yellowish (ivory), and the accent colors are too close to it on a color wheel. I don't think they look good with a cool white, but that would be the best way to get some contrast.

Also, bike/javelin-heavy armies are expensive in terms of money. They're practically a GBP per point.

>>49476083
The story I've heard is that Space Wolves were gray, but an early- or mid-'90s White Dwarf either printed them lighter or the darker gray wasn't photographing well so they used a lighter shade. Years later they wrote an Index Astartes article and just said that the darker gray was pre-Heresy and the blue-gray was post-Heresy.

>>49478546
The original version is that Horus the Warmaster -whos orders are just as valid as the Emperor's orders prior to the Heresy being outed- ordered Russ to take Magnus out and Russ being loyal to the chain of command did as ordered.

Look at how upset he is.

It's blonde, so it's not even likely to be his real hair and he's still THAT upset.

>>49478518
I believe he assumed the operation of "Retrieve Magnus" didn't need the clarification of "Without murdering his Legion and invading his planet" because he expected basic competency. He also wasn't expecting Horus to stick his Chaosdick in what was supposed to be a slap on the wrist. It's Russ's fault for being a hotheaded faggot that always looking to teamkill.
>>
>>49478653
I thought the original was that Leman proved to be the most persuasive Primarch and convinced Emps that Magnus was the traitor.

>It's blonde, so it's not even likely to be his real hair and he's still THAT upset
He's been blonde in other art, but one novel said he had black hair. I like my Papa blonde.
>>
>>49478702
In the version I remember, Magnus tried to contact the Emperor but couldn't. He then tried to break through the webway barrier to reach Terra and got some unholy assistance. As he breached the tunnel, daemons poured in and Magnus recoiled in horror. Emperor saw Magnus breaking through the tunnel with a horde of daemons and suspected Magnus had turned. He ordered Russ to destroy Magnus, and the rest is history.

Now it seems the Emperor ordered Russ to bring Magnus to justice and Russ, ever loyal to the word of the Emperor, decided to listen to Horus instead, who suggested to ignore the Emperor's orders and burn the whole planet down. With some assistance from Sons of Horus.

HH keeps adding chromosomes to primarchs with every issue.
>>
>>49478764
I still think it's probably going to end up being one SoH with a camera, lawn chair, and popcorn watching the whole thing go down.
>>
>>49478764
Russ is just a mess in the HH. I mean, I don't think he actually had a single decise victory in the entire Heresy:

1) Prospero was almost a draw with the Space Wolves losing almost as many men as the Thousand Sons, even though the wolves had the element of surprise and greater numbers on their side.
2) Bent over and ass-raped by the Alpha Legions
3) Bent over and Ass-raped by the Night Lords.

Ok, I haven't read everything, but do they ever get an actually decisive victory?
>>
Disillusioned 40k player considering returning to HH for the hobby and maybe for some games if I can find fellow HH enthusiasts (I live in a medium City, but there's not much specialist hobby)

Really close to narrowing it down between Imperial Fists and Word Bearers. I'm worried about painting Fists, but I'm also not really interested in any of the special options or Daemons for WBs.

I do really like the fluff for both, and I'm drawn to Tac squads and Bolter Drill for Fists too.

Thoughts? Potential lists? Reassurances about painting IF?
>>
>>49478809
But then you can't get non-SW/TS legions into the book, and that's not market appeal nor IP. I'm sure they'll find a way to stuff some allies for TS as well so that it's a great big punch-up between several legions.
>>
>>49478822
Fists aren't as bad as people make them out. White Scars and Luna Wolves, now they are a fucking nightmare to get right. My paint refuses to not streak.
>>
>>49478822
There's plenty of paint schemes around that aren't just yellow.
>>
>>49478702
The version I know is that the Emperor ordered Russ to bring Magnus to him alive, but through warpcraft Horus got that message corrupted to "kill everything." Russ thought it was an order from the Emperor so he followed it. He'd probably done it before, after all. (At least with one of the two missing legions - I'm a fan of the theory that Molech, named after an old god that received human sacrifices, required the Emperor to feed it one of his sons in order to become as powerful as he became.)
>>
>>49478812
>Prospero was almost a draw with the Space Wolves losing almost as many men as the Thousand Sons, even though the wolves had the element of surprise and greater numbers on their side.
That's a decisive victory. Being the attacker is always going to be costly.

>>49478822
Yellow spray paint as a base makes things much easier!
>>
>>49479063
>required the Emperor to feed it one of his sons in order to become as powerful as he became.
Temporarily setting aside my hatred of the new chaosperor canon, the Primarchs were created long after the Emperor got his power boost.
>>
>>49479090
I'm thinking along the lines of Rumpelstiltskin - promising your first-born.

OH WAIT

Maybe that's why the Chaos gods are mad at Emps that could be the deal he reneged on. That there was a deal at all has been hinted at for a long time, but with no clue as to what it was.

>>49479084
A "Decisive" victory is fighting an enemy, overwhelming their forces and killing far more of them than they did of you. You know, that thing that everybody else has been having against the Wolves. Giving as good as you got is called a "Minor" or "Costly" victory.

I'm waiting for when we get more Omegon stories. He's intriguing with how he's sent his men on suicide missions, but is also less prideful than Alpharius and somehow "nicer" if you can call it that.
>>
I've never played 30k, but how balanced is it compared to Warhammer 40k at the moment?
>>
>>49479222
30k is 95% Space Marines, meaning that most armies are on an equal playing field. I don't know any truly game-breaking lists. The only real unbalances that I can tell you of is that the Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus have pretty much nothing but the big guy himself going for them. All of their stuff is overcosted. Justaerins cost way more than regular Cataphractii's without giving any substantial bonus over the regulars, a Praetor can be upgraded to do the job of any named character for less than the name (A Praetor with Paragon Blade and Plasma Pistol does everything that Loken does (Plus is better at shooting) for less points than him.)
>>

>>49479199

>>
>>49479319
Have you even played SoH since the new red book?
>>
>>49479148
According to first expedition we will find out what happened and the emperors origin and perpetuals - in the next year probably around the time of 8th and return of the primarchs
Laurie Golding repeatedly hinted it over the last month or so in his posts and that means they have either planned out the novel (2 years in advance in normal lead for comissioning) or its on his desk (1 year tidying up and artwork)
>>
>>49479352
I did not realize that they got updated. What are the new rules? Please tell me that Loken and Abaddon are worth taking? Because i'm sick and tired of fielding my models of them as regular sergeants.
>>
>>49479319
What would you say I would need aside from the betrayal at calth set to make a decent army for 30k? Does running a normal army with dreadnoughts, marines, predators, and terminators work? Or do you need exclusive fw models?
>>
>>49479319
Sons of Horus were fixed recently with 2W Justaerin, a strong Rite of War, and not sure what else. They're good now. Emperor's Children were improved too, but they're still a more difficult legion to use. World Eaters got better as well. Those were the three underpowered armies before the recent red books.
>>
>>49479501
They can get you by, but the FW models do help IMMENSELY. Specifically, Sicarans, Leviathans and the unique units (Deathshrouds, Phoenix Guard, Raptors, etc.) Also, you will need to pay FW for the Volkite weapons that you do need.
>>
>>49479495
>I did not realize that they got updated. What are the new rules?
Read the OP
>>
>>49479501
Fundamentally it's the same game as 40k, so I'm not sure why you'd want to get into 30k if your army isn't going to have a 30k aesthetic. But 30k seems to attract fluff-based players and I'm one of them, so I'm biased in that direction.

Right now a FW Predator is US$69 vs. $58 for a GW Predator (thanks in part to Brexit). That's not too bad a premium, imo.

Gamewise, a plastic 30k army is likely to be weak against heavier vehicles and flyers.

I made a thread for this but I'm gonna delete it to save space and because this is a better place to ask.

Given some cool custom sculpts of homebrew legions and primarchs I've seen on my Instagram feed, alongside the release of Leman Russ' primarch model, I've been wanting to try my hand at modelling/kit bashing my own ocdonutsteel Primarch from my ocdonutsteel Lost Legion.

What are some good bases I can work off of? None of the forge world primarch models or kabuki miniatures "totally not primarchs" knights of legend series work.

Basically, I'd like to browse a variety of heroic character models roughly to the scale of forge world's primarch models.

And if you want, I can talk about how totally gay and lame my homebrew lost Legion and Primarch are.

Personally I prime white, base Ushabti bone, argrax earthshade the details carefully, then go over with two coats of Lamenters yellow glaze. I'll stick to Yriel Yellow for my vehicles, though, since they're close enough in colour. Honestly, you could just yriel yellow the whole army and it'd be even simpler
>>
>>49479912

Seeing as how legion tacticals are basically identical to grey hunters already (no heavy weapons, no combat squads, extra CCWs), and someone from FW (might have been Bligh) said thunderwolves will never be allowed anywhere near 30k, I'm going to call bullshit.

To be fair, the Primarch of the Wolves is like the ONLY dude who it isn't ridiculous to cover in wolf iconography.

Corax literally has a raven on each limb, and his chest, and the holster of his gun, and a spare on the other side of his belt just because.

I lost count at 14 "U"s on Guilliman.

Vulkan is a class act, so he's fine.
>>
>>49481767
He was being facetious.

Besides, aren’t the wolves on Fenris actually marines that have gone beyond the Wulfen stage? At this point in time, the Astartes haven’t existed long enough for there to be many of them (if any at all). Though some people think that all humans on Fenris turn into wolves, not just Astartes, due to past genetic manipulation to help the initial colonists survive on that gods-forsaken hellhole of a planet. In which case there would already be wolves. Smaller ones, perhaps.

Anyway, something that isn’t speculation: FW has said that they’ll make models for Russ’s two wolves, Geri and Freki (I think that’s what they’re called?). But that might be as far as the wolfiness goes.
>>

Are you actually a ficking retard

>>49482083
I think the implication is that the wolves are an offshoot of the original human settlers, because the canis helix was added to them to try and adapt to how fuckhorrible Fenris is. Some stayed human and became vikings, some went furry.

The Space wolves occasionally just go full-derp and become wolves in like a day and a half instead of slowly evolving over generations.

Remember "There are no Wolves on Fenris" The fact is that Fenris, itself, is heavily implied to be some kind of World Engine. Hell, The Fang wasn't even technically built by the Imperium. They found a massive complex of ancient and ridiculously OP weapons and refurbished it into a Fortress that has enough firepower to solo the average Chapters entire fleet.

Kinda looking forward to the next Warzone Fenris book so maybe we can find out what Fenris really is.

Are the GW Mk IV's from B@C that big as well?

Looks like they're almost Marine sized. I know Guardsmen models are smaller than the existing Marine kits.

>>49478764
You need to contextualize it with Horus being Warmaster; who acts as the Emperor's voice. If Horus says to kill Magnus instead of arresting him; it's safe to think that the Emperor couldn't reach him or whatever

>>49478812
>>49479198
Prospero was just that though. 9/10ths of the Thousand Sons died; while around 1/6th of the Wolves did.

The Wolves got ambushed by the Alphas; not to mention they were already beaten up from Prospero and the smallest legion.

What Night Lords engagement?
>>
>>49478702
Something like that.

I think the original went something like

>Emperor is also pissed off and in the heat of the moment lets him

>>

>I wonder what Russ did to them once he found out the truth.

Probably pussied out and did nothing.

>You need to contextualize it with Horus being Warmaster

Are we talking about a situation where Emperor and Horus are yelling at Russ to shoot the other, and he can't decide whose orders to follow, because they're equally valid.

I know the Emperor said he'd wreck Magnus if he did that warp shit after Nikea and I know Horus has pull, but wasn't Russ suppose to have a massive boner for the Emperor? If the Emperor delivers a message to not kill Magnus and Horus then has to convince Russ that "nah, best to just murder him, I'm sure the Emperor's cool with it." It does not bode well on the character of Russ.
>>
>>49484252
He told him to bring Magnus back to Terra in chains to stand trial. Horus then sent another message; basically saying "He's changed his mind. kill him"

And remember Nikea

>If you treat with the Warp, Magnus, I shall visit destruction upon you. And your Legion's name will be struck from the Imperial records for all time
>>
>>49484252
Also forgot to add that he doesn't have a boner for the Emperor anymore; he even kind of detests him for forcing him to be the Executioner and detests himself even more that he allowed himself to become one; because he thinks it's the reason Jaghatai abandoned him
>>
>>49484252
I find it funny that Magnus had the best father-son relationship with the Emperor since they'd communicated for so long before the Emperor arrived.

Makes it even worse how things played out.

And a question on top of that for hhg: once you get Daemon Prince'd, can you reverse it or otherwise sever the original person from the god?
>>
>>49484252
Nothing in the HH bodes well for Russ, he's the punching bag for everyone and is a complete total failure, they should've stayed with Russ as the bloodthirsty savage that convinced the Emperor to kill Magnus instead of 'lol just pretending to be savage!' and him being played like a fiddle by everyone.

Was that how it played out in the novel? In FW book 6 it says Horus had to convince Russ to kill Magnus. That doesn't sound like ordering Russ to do it or telling him daddy changed his mind.

>once you get Daemon Prince'd, can you reverse it or otherwise sever the original person from the god?

Depends on the source. What the gods give can be taken away (unless you're Be'lakor or the Emperor) and the gods do strip daemons of their power, for example Khorne removed Skarbrand's ability to fly.

But once you're prince'd, you don't have a physical body and your essence is basically added to that of your god, who'll reclaim it when they're done with you, just like any other daemon.

When did he convince the Emperor to kill Magnus? I remember the Emperor ordering Magnus' death.

I would have preferred him not as a savage (we already got Angron for that), but more as the stubborn and not so eloquent enforcer. The dude who'll commit warcrimes not because he gets a boner for it, but because it's his job.

>"We're not assassins of the Emperor, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing... the only thing I was good at. But... at least I always fought for what I believed in."
>>
>>49484624
Depends what version you're going by.

In the original Russ was just coincidentally on Terra when it happened and went to the Emperor and convinced him to give him carte blanche to destroy Magnus. Emps signed off on this.

In the new one he told Russ to bring Magnus in for a trial. Since this would allow him to blab about Horus; Horus changed the order

Why are the Wolves the Emperor's Executioners?
The persian Immortals were not only deadly, but could be replaced very fast, so the UM and IW would serve that function better.
And the War Hounds were let loose not against those the Emperor wished to conquer, but against those He wished dead.
I seriously hope the Wolves, which behave more like dogs if you ask me, have a better excuse to be the Executioners other than "because muh hunters", because on this millenium populated by monsters in human form, that's a weak as fuck excuse.
>You too have known loss, and that loss torments you still. You hope hatred might someday replace the pain, but it never goes away. It makes a man hideous, inside and out. Wouldn't you agree? We both are demons. Our humanity won't return

>>
>>49484737
>Not an argument
>>
>>49484759
That's literally THE argument. The Emperor designed each of his sons with a purpose in mind; and Russ' was the disposal of traitors
>>
>>49484788
I think I should rephrase the question: How are the Wolves the Executioners? What sets them above all other supermen, especially when Horus was the most dangerous, Vulkan was fucking immortal (probably a side-effect though), Dorn was the most loyal, the Night Lords were the Emperor's Revenge and the War Hounds were almost exclusively used for extermination campaigns?
>>
>>49484831
That is the question that Russ himself wonders about; and he thinks he's the only one that would actually EXECUTE. Sevatar mentions how the NL would prolong the traitor's death bit by bit; while Russ would finish it in one clean stroke.

But I myself think that Alpharius and his legion would be the best executioners; and the only reason they weren't made so was because he was the last to be found

Well, you can thank the HH series for that, because Abnett and pals looked at the Wolves and were all "what do we do with these nutjobs? Oh, I know, the Emperor kept them around to kill shit he didn't like."

>on this millenium populated by monsters in human form, that's a weak as fuck excuse.

Well, they are literal werewolves, are they not? That's what people always bring up against them when they want them to be expunged as heretics and dangerous mutants.
>>
>>49484859
And yet the War Hounds. Can't tell me they wouldn't also execute. Obviously that ended up not going to plan once Angron was found to be, well, Angron, but that would still be building two of your twenty(one) sons for the same niche task.

>>
>>49484831
I think the Wolves were choosen as executioners because their particular case of lunacy makes them loyal to a fault for some reason.
Vulkan wouldn't do that well because of his 'superpower' (compassion) the Night Lords have been a loose cannon most of the time, and World Eaters losing track of what the objective was or when they should stop butchering everything in sight (and out of it) makes them less usefull when you want a certain thing executed, and not everything around it too.

The Lion and Luther together introduced the Order's hierarchical structure to the existing (mostly) Principia Bellicosa tenets. I say mostly because the First had been deployed all around the frontiers and beyond since before the end of the Unification Wars, and as such it can be safely presumed that all the various commanders were used to operate alone and independently.

why
30k wolves are celtic scandinavian raiders, and even then 'JUST PRETENDING',
even if wulfen exist in 30k any images of them would be cesnored and stripped from archives, because then the inquisitors would kill them off in 40k.
>>

>even if wulfen exist in 30k any images of them would be cesnored and stripped from archives, because then the inquisitors would kill them off in 40k.
so? gal vorbak get an entry, a unit having rules doesnt mean its 'well documented' by the person writing the book in the fluff.

they do exist in 30k since thats when the wulfen were a thing. all their weapons in 40k are relics that were used by them in 30k.

wulfen are basically confirmed for 30k
>>
>>49493696
But the Gal Vorbak are cataloged as traitor degeneracy. It's the same reason RG didn't get the Raptors- officially it didn't happen
>>
>>49493622
Because they are labeled as such on FW's website. I do hate the MkIV-esque helms, however.

The Chest pieces are indeed MkII, and are meh.

The Iron Skulls and the targeter helms are MkII, though you could make an argument for the Iron Skulls being different enough from every pattern to be artificer wrought.

Also, you do realize that MkIII is just MkII with extra armor plating?

>>49493696
Anon, the Space Wolves are getting a unique Destroyer unit.
>>
>>49493696
no, the WICKED KEWL weapons the wulfen use were crafted by russ himself
rubricae are iconic 1ksons marines, doesn't mean 30k 1k sons get them, instead they get praevian buff (probably)
gal vorbak get an entry because they're already known to be traitors and so you can show the raw face of chaos, you don't show mutated 'loyalists' because thats how most penitent crusades start
>>
>>49493613
>>49493644

>>49493729

>>49493733
>Anon, the Space Wolves are getting a unique Destroyer unit.
nobody knows what the SW are getting, alan bligh said at the last FW open day that they are practically getting their own army list. people have said they will all be able to buy rad grenades, its all just rumors.

i can guarantee you they will get wulfen (probably with a FW upgrade kit) and TWC (also probably with an upgrade kit), since they are iconic units and huge sellers.

bligh said they are practically getting their own army list, so it woudnt surprise me if they got more than just 2 special units.
>>
>>49493790
And how many Gal Vorbak were there?
>>
>>49493648
Well, Warzone Fenris heavily implies that the Wulfen date back to at least when Russ left to go to the Eye of Terror.

All of the Wulfen use weapons that they found in The Fang. There is a whole scene where they see the massive weapons on the walls and pick them off, the Iron Priests mention how not even a Terminator is strong enough to effectively wield those weapons and that they were thought to be show-pieces made for Russ himself.

It would make a lot of sense if the Wulfen were around in the Heresy. Hell, it would make even more sense if it was The Wulfen that Russ took with him to The Eye of Terror, knowing that if he left them, then the Inquisition would just have them killed.

>Kayvas Belt - A joint-Imperial campaign carried out by the Blood Angels and Alpha Legion against scattered and leaderless Orks who had fled to the Kayvas Belt after the hammerblow they had suffered at Ullanor during the Ullanor Crusade.[Fear to Tread]
What the actual fuck did the AL do to the Orks?
>>
>>49494283
probably... shot them?
>>
>>49494283
cut off ork faces and then sew them on, told the orks they were orks over the radio, orks believed this, so WAAGH affect causes the alpha legon to look like orks.

then probably turns of murdering, flaying, and killing all the bosses until the wossy grots were the only ones left

Alpharius used the current Ork dex to drain the Orks' life force.

>games workshop doesn't want to lose the spoilt kid market
>subsequently evil races just have varying method of killing
>so slaanesh's excess cannot really be shown

This is now my headcanon.

leftover ork weapons never work once the waagh has been exterminated, ammo feeds are rarely found, so waagh effect works

killing commanders is a known terror tactic

what else would be effective at causing terror in a race that loves to wage war but shows they're losing the war

Is it alright if I post the writefaggotry/lore of my Warsmith next bread?
