Was the color system a bad idea? It's the reason why noncreature cards became weaker.

I will fight tooth and nail for colors. Without them, MTG would be much much worse, no matter how much it leans toward creatures.
>>49424186
What's the alternative? Making everything the same color? That'd be pretty miserable, honestly.

>It's the reason why noncreature cards became weaker
No, it's because people playing Standard and draft got a case of the feel-bads when their creatures got Bolted or Murdered
>>49424285
Everything is colorless, but spells gain an identity based on what colors are used to cast them?
>>49424323
It's because creatures are the only card type that every color can interact with. Decks can't be predominantly noncreature artifacts because then black can't do shit. Decks can't be predominantly enchantments because then neither black or red can do shit. Decks can't be predominantly sorceries and instants because then red, black, and green can't do shit.

What would be the point?

congrats OP, you have transcended mental retardation into complete nonsense
what the living fuck are you talking about
>>49425121
At least this comment is cogent, if still completely fucking retarded

See, there was a time it was very balanced. White and Green were the creatures colors, but every other color got creatures but with some kinds of tweaks. Red and Blue were the color of spells, interacting without a board but with hand. Black was sorta of a jack of all trades, but traded resources for power.
What happened was that R&D felt it was too 'narrow' and creatures are 'attractive' to new players. They can see the creatures, they can act and interact with them without too much thinking and it is cool for them.
The problem is: creatures were too much powerful before. They could attack a player already, reduce life totals every turn if unanswered. They were permanents.
Once they start with non-permanent nerf, calling counterspells 'unfun', removal 'too good', library manipulation 'unfair', interacting with your opponent without a board 'oppressing' and playing around the mana system with clever deck building 'cheat', they changed their philosophy and now Magic is just a 'combat phase' game.

Prior to the nonpermanent nerf, creatures were abysmal and the effects of this is still seen in eternal formats.
I do not care for people who pretend that we are throwing away MTG's legacy.

>creatures were abysmal
Plenty of them were just fine. If cards like Juzam Djinn or Hypnotic Specter are considered unplayable, its a problem with the modern design of tacking free spells onto creatures or severely undercosting.
