In ancient medieval times women were only skinny if they were dirt poor peasants who literally couldn't afford to eat on a regular basis.

It's why, to this day, the stereotype of the rich and elite being fat still exists.

Only problem is, ancient medieval fat and modern day fat are two completely different things.

Medieval fat is basically the average generic healthy human that eats three square meals a day and is relatively physically active. The average noble (male or female) rode horses and practiced competitive sword fencing and shit like that, after all.

While modern day fat is 600 pounds of morbid obesity.

So yeah, vampires are attracted to women who have actual breasts and thighs, and a lack of being able to count each individual rib bone from half a mile away. Does that make them chubby chasers? Nope.

You are right though. Noblemen were highly physically active and while they had vigorous appetites, they used those calories.

It's also not necessarily correct to say that peasants were always malnourished or skinny. How well they did varied from region to region and depending on the time. But they were always dangerously close to disaster and actual starvation.

They generally ate pretty plain food, but they also more or less had enough of it, generally. Lots of legumes in many places, usually grain of some sort, and not necessarily wheat, certainly not good quality flour if they had it at all. Barley was more common, along with millet, and before a certain point wheat was not particularly common at all.

Also a certain amount of things from the forests, although as the Carolingian era and early middle ages ended, the forests became more a preserve of the nobility. Earlier a fairly good deal of peasant food was from such sources.

Areas close to the sea obviously had a fairly massive amount of fish, and shellfish, and other areas saw certain things regionally as they were available.

Urban commoners generally ate different things than rural commoners, and actively disdained some staples common in the country. Many were slightly more affluent being craftsmen, merchants, and other sorts providing services and goods for each other, and wealthy churchmen and nobles in cities. Even the poorest people who actually worked in the city tended to eat pretty well. They were still vulnerable of course because they were dependent on food from outside the city, and disruption of usual avenues of this food led to severe hardship.

Paris writhed and howled, and rioted more than once in it's history because there was not bread available one morning more than once before the early modern and modern period, for want of flour.
