was my first. I'll take the easy way out; it's a Wild West Fantasy, a little bit grim and unpleasant where people are constantly looking for redemption out in the wilds of a fantasy land. There are lots of monsters in the dark, but there's also an actual, dedicated religious organization that fights them and isn't secretly evil, hoping to inspire others to take up the blade.

This time I'm not taking the easy way out. The protagonist is Miranda Laire, a femme fatale from the Church sent to investigate the small town of Heaven's Sakes. She's a man's woman, not a Churchgoing lady, but she's been paid a lot of money to resolve the problems of Heaven's Sake, a known monster hangout. She's going to redeem one of the monsters with the Power of Love because that's a solid, old-school story.

He feels awful about doing this, but he's been made a Promise by a dark force that if he does it, he'll be able to see his wife again, so he rides the newly-made rail system and spreads evil through fire-and-brimstone preaching. Heaven's Sake is just the latest town without a Church he's come to.

The story takes place in a bustling caricature of the perfect metropolitan cityscape. Most buildings and structures are a stark white color, with only the poor districts retaining any sense of personality in their color scheme and design. The sidewalks and allyways are completely clear of all forms of debris and refuse. However under the spotless streets lies a world of back-alley trades and murderous intentions. This area is called the Cavity and serves as a hive for the most wretched scum and villainy in the city. Kidnappings and murders are commonplace and drugs run rampant through the decrepit streets.

The city is run by a council of 32 elected officials, much like modern times. This council dictates all major desicions in the city, almost functioning like kings you vote into rule. Citizens of the city are generally quite happy, living in a state on blissful ignorance of the horrors that could befall them in this perfect sphere of safety

This is honestly hard. Ok, so the setting will be sci-fi, 20 minutes into the future. The social unrest caused by the legalization of human experiments, cloning and biotechnology has long faded and became a accepted part of society. Now, most first-world countries have a working class composed mostly of "homunculi", artificial humans that are almost robots, bio-engineered not to have the chemical reactions which would cause "emotions", "pain" and other things in them, creating very obedient and competent workers.
Unfortunately - or not - as the homunculi aged, it would appear that through sheer intelect and observation, even without the associated chemical reactions, they would still learn how to experience feelings. Perhaps that kind of perceived "emotion" is considered a disease, those which feel it are taken away for termination. Basically the "AI wants to be free" plot.

Quite clearly a Homunculus. Maybe there is already some unrest thanks to other 'sick' of his species, and MC just tries to avoid them and problems and follow with life as intended. But, reluctantly, protag will realize that it is learning how emotions are supposed to be, which will cause great deal of confusion, but eventually will try to fight for change.

Gwyn is a fallen leader, a shade of his former self, and there's a sad tone to the song... So maybe, the BBEG is actually a homunculus as well, the best of their own, their leader, but one who went too far. They can emulate emotions through reason, but they cannot truly understand them, as well as humans - and their leader would rather eliminate them all than keep a liability around.
