The art on these is really are over the top.

>Who will win the Inventor's Fair guys?
No one who opens a pack trying to get the ghost rares.
>>
Most of these are pretty ugly and share the same problem as Expedition shocks and fetches: they're generic, crowded, and gaudy. Hangarback Walker, Mana Vault and Painter's Servant are nice, but the other ones range from mediocre to hideous. Luckily I won't be wanting any of these to pimp out my Mayael EDH.
>>
>>49315313
WHY KUMAR AND RAMESH, OF COURSE.
>>
>>49315346
They look like painted minis.

Man the card art does not do justice for this one
>>
>>49315509
I feel that way about a lot of it. I think most of them would look much better with the regular artifact frame as well. The frame is too busy, distracts from the art, and makes the whole thing just seem too busy.

Overall, I think some of them look great. The swords and Moxs are good. Static orb is gorgeous. I think painters servant and solemn are a little too dark though.
>>
This is stupid. We didn't complain about it enough last time because they were cards that needed reprinted, but it is really stupid. Having an ultra-mythic chance of getting a Mana Crypt in limited is fucking dumb. I'm just saying, no a non-zero amount of times, someone is going to sit down across from someone for a game of Kaladesh limited and their opponent is going to go land sol ring and that's fucking stupid.

Plus it's always worth mentioning it's morally wrong for Wizards to expose players to such cancer giving artwork.

http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/masterpiece-series-2016-09-12

> The Masterpiece Series will exist at a rarity higher than mythic rare. For example, in Kaladesh, you will open a Kaladesh Inventions card roughly 1 out of every 144 boosters. (Technically, the Kaladesh booster pack says the ratio is 1:2,160 cards.) This is slightly more often than opening a premium mythic rare. These ratios may change for future sets.
>>
>>49315866

>They were both fetchlands
>I gave them away
>>
>>49315926

That's actually really hot
>>
>>49315581
These show up in one out of every 12 limited pods.

On the other hand they make Standard vastly cheaper to buy into and does it in a way that makes wotc money.

It saves players money in a sustainable manner and all it does in make one in 144 packs kinda broken in limited and piss off poor eternal players because it will only drop single prices by like a buck.

They are basically using rich players who bling out eternal formats to subsidize our standard decks.
>>
>>49315965

They are legal in limited environments. That means some games are going to be busted from the git go. Limited is already really busted when it comes to pulls. Now its just gone.
>>
>>49316299

So one format, while every other format benefits either from the influx of cards it brings into the picture from people buying tons of boxes, or from the cards Modern and Legacy care about that will increase in supply but not in demand.

Sol Ring looks great, as does Mana Crypt, Chromie Mox, and Static Orb.

>>
>>49316701

Well, sorta, in the fact that if you pull one you'll be able to sell it for enough to buy a playset of the non-masterpiece version.
>>
>>49316728
More packs purchased, more cards in the mix.
>>
>>49316728
people buy more boxes to get the valuable masterpieces, meaning more cards on the market, lowering prices. Not 100% convinced personally but we'll see
>>
>>49316728
So many people cracking packs in hopes of getting these that it will flood the market with Kaladesh rares and mythics.
>>
>>49316701
Not by any noticable amount.
The increased supply will be negligible overall, with each Invention appearing once every 4,320 packs.

Demand might shift, with certain richer players purchasing the Inventions rather than the normal cards.

But due to both scarcity and demand by either players or collectors, I can't see if affecting the price of the normal cards in any meaningful way in the long run, price speculators aside.
>>
>>49316728

Big stores/sellers will crack pick after pack to get one of these to sell, therefore flooding the market with everything else and lowering the price of singles.

That's the theory anyways.
>>
>>49316728
Because people who want the masterpieces are gonna buy the hell out of the set, BFZ's cheap as hell, there are only a couple of mythics worth more than three dollars in the set.

>>
>>49316936

>>
I am hype. I don't care how dumb it is. I don't care that I opened four boxes of BFZ block and drafted it a bunch and still opened no expeditions.

I am a slave to stupid cardboard.

At the very least, at the very least, there are some garbage cards as Masterpieces, so I'll be able to snag one I want for cheap.
>>
>>49316728
Every set's total box value will always settle around msrp because of the laws of supply and demand. Vendors will buy boxes crack packs and sell singles until the market is so flood it stops being profitable.

This means every mtg set has a limited amount of total value that all the cards in a set have to share.

Usually this is focused on tournament tier mythics, but with these uber rares all the value will be concentrated in them, leaving us with cheaper cards to use for standard.

To see this is practice see BFZ.

Over 25% of that sets value was in Expeditions , basically discounting standard by a quarter.(Although the rarer a card, the lesser it's price tank)

To think of it "real world terms" imagine you are cracking packs, you keep doing that until the prices drop. With Mythics as the top end this happens sometime before they get really affordable for the public.

But with Masterpieces, you keep going until THOSE loose value, by the time that happens, everything else will be burnt out in power because of how much more standard cards there are than Masterpieces.
>>
>>49316953
Man, every set? That's pretty fun. I guess I shouldn't slurge on these then, since I will have ample opportunities to get one.
>>
>>49316965
This is the problem.formme, and maybe it is selfish, but I think what turns mr off other than the blatant cynicism is that it's not like ill ever get to experience the coolness of them or the excitement of pulling one or even just owning one ever myself. It's kind of like dangling a shiny I can never reasonably have. I mean I could get them but its pointless since they'd just be more expensive than normal print versions. As I said, I suppose it is selfish as even if I don't other people will and judt because I cant experience it doesnt mean other people shouldn't but eh.
>>
>>49315313
there's a part of me that wants to believe the introduction of these ridiculously rare reprints is the first step towards the end of mythic rares.

But we all know that's just daydreaming, huh.
>>
>>49317027
That's retarded for several reasons. Economically, flavorfully and practically .

In any case this is going to make Mythixs cheaper angway
>>
I dont like Minds Eye and swords, rest range from acceptable to good. I will try to buy one at least.
>>
>>49317027
>the introduction of these ridiculously rare reprints is the first step towards the end of mythic rares.

How does that work when this goes in the other direction?
>>
>>49316980
In theory that works but in practice the prices of non-Masterpieces are also set by vendors and have no reason to lower regardless of the vendors' supply.
>>
>>49316953
honestly, that's pretty good news- the collecters get shiny cardboard to splurge on, and the average player gets cheaper prices on singles as a result of more packs being opened

seems like a win-win to me
>>
>>49317061
This is why theory has rung strange to me so far. Why would vendors price standard cards cheaper if they dont have to? People are suggesting BFZ/OGW are evidence of this working but I think I need to see it in practice a few more times. I still remember Ulamog and Gideon being relative expensive and Gideon is played in multiples.

This version will be less appealing than Alpha/Beta or Judge promo by a decent margin, I would expect it to be around $40-50 at the most. I would honestly rather use the FTV in mine, at least the art and border don't look like ass.
>>
>>49316735
They're not out doing him. They'll have the Kaladesh flavor and style to fit in the aesthetic rather than force it in like a Phyrexian in an uncorrupted plane.

I like ll of it because they went the extra mile and commissioned all new art for every reprint instead of lazily slapping it onto the foil sheet. They even found a flavor reason - exhibits at the Inventor's Fair - and made them fit into the world. Some even have flavor text.

Gotta give it to Wizards this time. If this is what we're in for in the future, I already love super secret rare reprints.
>>
>>49317212
Yeah, from a flavor perspective it's nice, and it gives me an actual reason to go to the prerelease this time. Imagine opening mana vault or any of the swords.

The online card market is pretty close to perfect competition (a very rare exception as markets go), even the popular vendors can't price gouge too much without getting undercut.
>>
>>49316510
No, they don't. And they are absolutely abnormal. With Wizards shitty new foiling process, I almost guarantee these are going to succumb to the buckling that foils have been having to deal with for the last year or two.

As is, as soon as I see one of these I'm going to inspect it, and if it's even slightly bent I'm going to dissallow it.

Also, it ABSOLUTELY qualifies as Abnormal product, because it's completely different then every other card in the set. Just because it's INCLUDED in the set means nothing.

Just because you're a booty blasted faggot because you didn't pull an expedition and think it won't happen again doesn't give you the right to negatively impact someone else's limited experience just because "I-I-It's not REALLY in the set!"

It's the color of polished brass, the primary metal in all steampunk-related works. As Kaladesh is magitek-punk, every fucking thing is made of polished brass.
>>
>>49317366
Copper is a pretty metal and orange is a color that isn't especially associated with any one of the five colors so it fits as a change of pace on colorless cards. Also it's the color of Mythic Rare symbols and these particular cards are double super Mythics.

By that notion wouldn't it be lucrative to price them lower than competitors in order to get their copies off the shelves faster?

Price is based on supply and demand, and if there's a lot of both then prices will be fine (i.e. Gideon and Ulamog) but if there's a lot of supply and little demand then shit will likely tank hard once prices stabilize. This is why you'll find lucrative mythics such as new Chandra to be in the 20s or 40s while less-lucrative mythics potentially get to under the cost of a pack. This would have happened even without the Masterpieces, but them being there will have a pretty obvious effect on the things that have less demand. Though that's pretty good for me, considering I was going to build a meme deck with Gonti anyways.

>>
>>49317456
That's a possibility, unless the regionals judge upholds the call.

If I can distinguish the card, in sleeves, from other cards in your deck, it's gone. I was judging a Legacy event not long ago and a dude was somehow, majestically drawing at least 1 Kird ape every starting hand. It got suspicious, I asked him for his deck. The cards were so beat down and distinguishable that I shuffled his deck 5 times, and every single time I cut it I could cut it to a Kird ape. I made him remove them.

>>49317466
It takes a LOT more than somebody complaining about "THIS JUDGE WAS AN ASSHOLE AND WOULDNT LET ME DRAFT MY SWEET FOIL MASTERPIECE" to get a judge's certs revoked.

I've definitely made some wrong calls, and got chewed out for it and told when to pass it up the chain. But most complaints come from pissy-ass neckbeards who google obscure rules interactions and then appeal the higher event judge and get smacked down.

Volkan Baga's entry is exquisite.

>Chandra, the head judge and I are getting married.
>>b-but what about dad?
>It's been twelve years honey, you know I loved your father very much but I had to move on, and Tezzeret helped me do that.
>>>-Lili gags externally-

Please look at new Liliana and new Thalia for very high in demand Mythics and Rares in a set without many chase cards and tell me that lacking lottery tickets made Thalia $40.

>A situation of severe trial
That doesn't make sense as an artifact, though
>>
>>49319228
He also made two other masterpieces, Sol Ring and Sword of Fire and Ice.

They gave him the most expensive cards.
>>
>>49318841
>Chandra bursts into Tezzeret's office
>"Unhand my mom you fiend!"
>"Is that what this is all about?"

>Mox Opal 150 euros

Sword of Ice and Fire is Chris Rahn or Mark Zug and Sol Ring is Mark Tedin or Mike Bierek.

Volkan Baga did the new Moxes, including Opal and the new Chrome.
>>
>>49319352
Sol Ring will be $40 max.

Oh. Well I disagree about the sword being a masterpiece. I definitely think it's worse than the old version. You can barely even tell it's a sword.
>>
>>49319392
The Kaladesh inventions are called "masterpieces." Sword of Fire and Ice is one of them.

Is that guy pulling a ballsack? I knew he drew dicks, tits, and cunts, but never seen a Giger ballsack.

They're right below what could be taken to be a feminine face. They're tits and balls at the same time. That's Giger to a T.

Is Gitrog still in rotation? How does the sacrifice mechanic work when playing from graveyards?

Sorry, not much experience.
>>
>>49319442

>>
>>49319442
you're being dense on purpose
>>
>>49319342
Futurama?
>>
>>49319585
You're still playing the lands.
>>
>>49319585
Gitrog is, it won't be in rotation with Crucible because Crucible won't be in Standard with it.

But to answer the question, the two don't affect eachother really at all as much as they benefit from eachother a ton.
Sac a land during your upkeep, draw your card, then on your main phases you can play the same land you just sacced as one of your land drops.
>>
>>49319585
Gitrog's still around but Crucible of Worlds isn't actually in Standard. Gitrog's sacrifice effect does the same thing as ever, it just becomes easier to bring the lands back with the Crucible.
>>
I'm definitely getting that new Mana Crypt. The question is, should I preorder it now or wait for the price to settle in the hopes that it drops a bit? It's 215 bones right now.
>>
We need a new thread.

>>49319675
It'll drop a bit. Look at the price history on the expeditions.
>>
>>49319675

Do you really think it's going to drop?
>>
>>49319698
no there is no fucking way
>>
>>49319698
>>49319742
going by the price trends of most of the expeditions I'm thinking wait a little bit. Most of them spiked at release then dropped to a more stable range for the next month, before slowly falling as supply increased. the exceptions are ancient tomb thanks to eldrazi shit in legacy and horizon canopy which has stayed the same throughout.

Though I'm still totally afraid of the Crypt jumping to 300 or something once the market starts setting it's prices.
>>
>>49318220
Anyone in Kaladesh would suck Tezzeret's hobo anus for a second's worth of studying etherium. It's no wonder they made him important.
>>
>>49319826
I sold Polluted Delta at 300 bucks though i tipped 25 to the guy who found me someone who wants it for that price.
All in all 275 is pretty good price.
>>
>>49319283
Collected Company and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy sure were cheap.
>>
>>49319826
Even Ancient Tomb dropped a bit. It went down to $70-80 around June.
>>
>>49320037
CoCo barely rose above $15 despite being played in two formats while Jace was a sleeper that experienced a buyout and went on to be a x4 in Vintage, Legacy, Modern and a couple Standard decks.
>>
>>49320037
How is Jace at all relevant to this discussion? Tell me how Origins is relevant here.
>>
>>49320037

Jace was in magic origins you fucking retarded

I don't like that this flavor text clashes with the last reprint's:
>Lost to time is the artificer's art of trapping light from a distant star in a ring of purest gold.

All they had to do was add on
>It took the reclusive Venya Sangmi a lifetime to realize her childhood vision: a band of sunlight made solid.
>She died before she could pass on the techniques she employed.
>>
>>49320369
Different worlds with different ways to make certain artifacts happening.
>>
>>49317983
It is literally a crucible you fuck do you even science. And the flavour text says that liquid is stabilized planesmagic so I swear there are planeswalkers at this damn fair.

I mean some donors have contributed their Moxe Opals and Mana Crypts for viewing pleasure and in pretty sure it's actually one of you fucks who got your Judge Foil and had it altered.
>>
>>49320386
Yeah but the flavor text on the Commander rings felt like it was referencing the game itself on a meta level, and the multiverse by extension. Wizards is never going to print a new card as busted as Sol Ring ever again, so it kinda makes sense that nobody in the in-game multiverse should know how to make artifacts that powerful either.

I dunno, I like those sorts of nods to the game's history.

Well brothers put up with shit they give eachother by design, being family kind of an obligation to put with with someone interfering with your life.

With roomates however bounderies get crossed, which feels like the foundation of sit com lifestyle. You shouldn't be dealing with this mess with a roommate. Making it all the more bizarre that they'd stay.

I could go either way with the duo however.

Kumar strikes me as the kind of inventor who would make a floor cleaning robot that also makes a good cup of tea...only for it to hit a bump in the floor, strip the paint of the walls and make a furious cup of cat.
