Cyber, personally. Shame the system practically hates you for trying, though

Bio all the way. I usually play a mix between combat and face, so usually it's either edge or bio.

So cyber all the way. Mundane, cause why else would you chop your limbs off? And as for fast or strong, I kind of like the unnaturally precise shooter kind of thing.

>>49312120
I always distinguish street samurai by two things
1) They are heavily augmented combatants. If you're an adept, you're not a street samurai (yes, bioadepts still count as adepts, cheesemonkeys).

2) They need a code. The amount of augments they have distance them from humanity, so they need something (maybe not an mechanical Code of Honour, but at least a similar devotion in the fiction) to help keep them grounded, rules they can fall back on to direct their behaviour and help them keep the humanity they have left.

Without a code, they're razorboys, they're thugs, they're muscle, they're gangers, they're anything but deserving of the name samurai.
>>
>>49312120
the definition I personally use is "main role combatant with a focus on augmentation"
Augments can be Bio or cyber, they can be a walking tank or razor-(boy/girl) and while they should focus on augmentation there's nothing prohibiting adept powers as long as they are not the focus of the build.
An adept with only a Hand-of-God is not a street sam, but if he has multiple cyberlimbs, some headware and uses only a few adept powers he's a sammy

This however is only my personal definition

SO, last thread there were several non-connected runs listed...I'll compile these next for my Shadowrun resources pack.

>Any Idea for fixing it?
In 5e, I'd cut the costs of a chunk of the things and maybe lower the avail of a select few. Trying to be a cyberware-user, at this point, is almost as expensive as trying to be bioware but with the added drawback of you're basically on empty essence.
>>
>>49312129
A lot of the problem is the wacky way cyberlimbs stats are calculated, and the wacky way they're applied to skill checks. If you just went back to the older-style system where a cyberarm gave you +1 STR (and a cyberleg gives +1 AGI) to your augmented total rather than calculating every limb separately and averaging them for everything, it would make limbs both more viable and easier to use.

It would also cut the price down for samurai starting out, because you wouldn't necessarily need to spend 100k nuyen on each limb for stat customization.
>>
>>49311851
I prefer my street samurai strong, fast, extremely durable, and permanently on drugs.

I think that's deliberate design. There's no rule saying you can take only cyber or only only bioware. You get bioware for expensive but low-essence straight boosts, and cyberware for the things that no meat can do (like grapple hands, crazy armour, big smuggling compartments, etc).

The only modification I use for cyberware regularly is to start limbs at the metatype base stats, because otherwise it's just ridiculously costly.

I know it is. The devs decided to ramp up the costs of everything in 5e as a balance issue, but they went too far with it.

If they have enough cyber that their humanity is threatened, and they need bushido to keep them in check, then they count as street samurai.

Never met one at the table, never had to worry about it before.
>>

An extra 1 strength per cyberarm isn't going to let you lift a car, dude. It would, however, streamline the system and make skill checks involving full-body movement like gymnastics or stealth require less number-crunching to determine which limbs apply to which test and averaging them.

Yekka refuses money. And I wouldn't want to put this on him anyways; Chummer is a side project for a couple of guys on their off days.

This is the kind of thing that should be done by CGL, or rather a company like Roll20 or Beyond Tabletop or some real programming company, an official product with official support. It's time to step into the 21st century.

Plus Chummer's UI is pretty bland and ugly; the design focus is on parsing SR's insane rules, not a beautiful user experience. I'd want something that looked better than a Windows XP program.

They run into the stock creatures Sneks are derived from. including basilisks

One of the scientists working on the project planned to get one for his daughter's 8th birthday, 3 weeks before official rollout. He's taken some critical info and hidden it in his personal possessions. Possible double-twist: security discovers the missing pieces and tries to find it, putting the PCs in a quiet race to his office.

I'm in the same camp for Chummer; it's workable and that's what is needed. But for a professional, official product, I have higher standards about the look of it.

Your conclusive answer is, "If you can convince the GM it's a hunting rifle, either because it's classed as a sporting rifle or it's obviously intended to be so, then it uses a large mount. Welcome to CGL editing."

Here's the thing: I'm time-poor, not money-poor. Donations, while appreciated, are essentially useless to me and present a headache in terms of how I split that money up between the current development team.

I've considered doing a Patreon, but unless I was able to get enough income to do things like hire a UX/UI guy to review the layout (not cheap, generally a huge hassle to work with unless they're familiar with how the application is used) the odds are relatively low that I'd be able to make enough money to justify the extra effort in maintaining patreon rewards. Also no idea how the hell I'd implement reward tiers or whatever.

The closest I'll probably get to directly accepting donations is putting up an affiliate link to drivethru, as that would directly give me credit I can use to buy the books as they come out and get updates. Even that I'm super leery about doing it.
>>49313328
>Deck Configurations and programs
You can already switch ASDF attributes around in career mode; program loadouts wouldn't be super hard to implement. Raise it as an issue on the github and I'll get to it once I finish refactoring the Options interface.

>>
>>49311851
>Is there any way to increase the speed in which drugs activate?
Yes, an infuser thing from Bullets and Bandages. It requires hooking someone up to an IV, though.
>>
>>49314849

Yeah you've got it the wrong way round: I want to place tags on things so the drones don't need LOS, not the drones tagging things so I don't need LOS. That way, I can have a bunch of sniper drones in the sky shooting through buildings at anyone I tag.

>>
>>49313762

As was mentioned before, I believe, you can shoot things with tracker bullets. Even if they don't do damage to the target, they can get stuck in armor and work functionally like a stealth tag.

My plan at the moment is to finish refactoring the options interface, then start on setting up the optional rules so that they actually work as intended. A lot of the time at the moment Chummer just does a grab-bag of every optional rule is enabled from the start, which causes a bunch of problems. My eventual plan is for optional rules to be attached to the sourcebooks, so when you enable Hard Targets the rule for getting free Matrix subscriptions is enabled and you can turn that on or off as you want. I have a suspicion I'm biting off more than I can chew, but we shall see.

Career works just fine, just checked. Can hand out whatever.

Alright GM's, how do you whip up things for your players to shoot/stab etc? I will if i have to but i'd rather not go through and stat all my mooks. (i suck with numbers)
>>
>>49320011
You're doing just fine, omae. The main thing you should look at now is boosting your Initiative a little more, if you have any Essence left.

If you're running too low on Essence, though, the Narco gene mod and some pharmaceutical-grade Jazz can really help supplement that where important.
>>
>>49320011
Anything in the teens is usually enough for combat skills. Anyone using automatic weapons can get by with a bit less if they have enough recoil comp.

Your initiative is a bit low for a combat-focused character, but that's a very normal consequence of blowing a bunch of essence on cyberlimbs. Outside of augs, your two main options are drugs and edge, which work as something to use in a pinch (but of course that require your initiative to otherwise be good enough, which 10+2d6 probably is).

If you want to try and squeeze more initiative out of your essence, your options are reaction enhancers + synaptic accelerator, and the synaptic booster. Both of which are considerably more expensive than your WR 1.

If you want to go hard on drugs, a nephritic screen and implanted auto-injectors are effective and fairly affordable. The Narco genemod is an option, but isn't at all necessary.
>>
>>49320154
Well, when you think about it, how many laws does a single corp break in a single day anyway?

Your own transgression will amount to a drop of water compared to the ocean of shit that megacorps get up to, so why NOT stick it to them?
>>
>>49320193
Thanks, I'll check that out! Main thing is that I took synaptic booster so I don't drain my essence too much, which means that even with 450k starting money I'm basically bankrupt after everything and setting at 0.6325 essence with biocompatibility.

>>49320198
Didn't get WR 1, actually, I got synaptic boosters so I could at least have over half a point of essence by the end. I do have 4 edge, though! I'll check out the nephritic screen and auto-injectors, although I might have to hold out on those until later because I literally have $14 left after character creation.
>>
So if I were to get some kind of data jack and connect an RCC to it, could I then use mental commands to command drones without needing to jump into them? Or am I misreading how RCCs/DNIs work?
>>
>>49320274
Synaptic Booster 1 is just worse than a synaptic accelerator, unless you are playing a high-paying game where replacing the synaptic booster with a higher-rating version is possible.

Also, be aware of the wording on what initiative boosting augs stack with what. The synaptic booster says it doesn't stack with anything, while the wording for others are a bit different. Worth double-checking with your GM on exactly what he will allow.

>>49320290
Yes, you can do that. You can also do that without a RCC, just not as well. The benefit of jumping in with a control rig is using your own stats and the boost from the control rig while doing stuff with the drone. Ordering a drone without jumping in has it use its own, probably worse, stats.
>>
>>49320198
I'd argue that Narco is the lynch pin of a drugs build, between the boost to drug effects and significant reduction in crash effects. The nephritic screen (while still fucking amazing) is less fundamentally essential, especially with pharma-grade being available to ease addiction risks.
>>
>>49320290
You don't even need the datajack - trodes work fine, if you don't have a Control Rig.
>>
>>49320290
If you only want to command one drone, you can do that with a commlink and just using the send message action over and over. I guess you could manage two drones that way, but anything more than that and it becomes unmanageable unless they're all doing the same thing at once all the time.

If you want to command more than one at a time, you want either an RCC or a VCR, and any form of DNI will work.
>>
>>49320290
An RCC allows you to send commands to multiple drones with a simple action. Connecting to the RCC via datajack gives you some noise reduction and means you don't need to physically interact with it to send those commands.
>>
>>49320628
Theoretically, would it be possible to use some elements of decking to improve a drone's capabilities? Like programming in an ESP or the likes to run its systems, then perhaps when using a deck to control it, using the ESP to speed up responses and commands?
>>
>>49320654
No. What you're talking about is already represented by the drone's Pilot Program and Autosofts.
>>
>>49320654
Not really, that's represented by its Pilot rating.
>>
>>49320654
>speed up responses and commands
Man, that reminds me, can you use the rules from Data Trails to hardwire a module into a drone? I'd really love to give a drone a Multidimensional Coprocessor, to boost its initiative dice.
>>
Been reading the old Brainscan campaign, and there's this bit:

"If Huang is killed, the players will discover that he was just a look-alike decoy, and the real Huang has already been captured by Deus."

The whole campaign is really railroady but that takes the cake - I don't mind maybe upping the challenge on the fly, like deciding another squad is in the area if the players run-and-gun and blow through initial opposition, but that kind of plot armor is like Bad GMing 101. No good campaign plot should be so delicate that if the players do something smart like deduce a way to foil the villain's plot in advance the whole thing is now derailed so the players' actions must be nullified.

It's really just one example of how the campaign is written more like a showcase of the authors' intended story rather than a campaign where the players are in the driver's seat. Apart from doing the necessary killing to move the plot forward there's really no opportunities for the players to make their own decisions or significantly deviate from the story, which is heavily dependent on meta-plot characters in order to enable their own future stories. Were the Shadowrun writers at the time just really chained to their pet characters and novel tie-in series at the time, or are they still like that today?
>>
>>49320669
>>49320673
Well, then, better question: can you design your own pilot program when upgrading an existing drone, or building your own from scratch - or is it one of those 'buy the parts' deals?
>>
>>49320715
>a campaign where the players are in the driver's seat
To be fair, it's quite rare to get a truly freeform experience out of a campaign splatbook. Big campaigns like that all rely on railroading to a degree, because if they didn't the books would all be 600-page-long CYOA interactive novels. One-shot campaigns are much better suited for that sort of play.
>>
>>49320699
you can hardwire it, definitely. whether it actually affects the drones initiative when doing stuff is not clear, because drones dont really have "Matrix initiative"

>>49320729
if your gm allows it, its possible, but theres no rules for it beyond the stupendously vague and unhelpful guidelines for stuff like that. you can buy new pilot programs, but theyre pretty expensive
>>
>>49320342
Gotcha, will do, thanks! Don't think it's going to be a high-paying game.
>>
>>49320715
It's something of an artifact of the times, but most big campaign books are like a bunch of sausages; relatively wide for a while, then they pinch down to a required thing that MUST happen, then wide for a while again.
>>49320729
Not by RAW; you could fluff it as the cost being booking time with a Host and rapid-prototyping until you get something that works, I guess
>>
>>49320628
>you don't need to physically interact with it to send those commands.

That's basically what I'm looking for, I want to be able to point at a guy and tell my pack of Cheetahs to attack it. I'm thinking of fitting Remington Roomsweepers in them too.
>>
>>49320783
Fair enough. I've been tinkering with the idea of making a drone that serves as a satellite relay, while giving it a datajack or a cable that it can plug into terminals and then transmit my decker into the console that way. Just sort of spitballing the feasibility or utility of the thing. The idea would be for it to be a small-sized unit - small enough to fit into even the smaller vent spaces that standard drones can't get into. The obvious drawback would be that it would have shit-tier durability due to its size and being designed for infiltrations and remote-decking.
>>
>>49320342
Oh, and do you know where synaptic accelerator is from?

Hey guys, can you think of a better way to represent that a skill group is broken than the current setup we've got here?
>>
>>49321096
Perhaps rather than just saying "broken," have an icon instead, like a little grayed-out lightning bolt or a broken sword.

Perhaps, in the future when everything is pretty, have every skill group color-coded for a quicker visual reference.
>>
>>49321096
You may want to present it in English rather than German.
>>
>>49321181
To expand a bit on this, have two sets of icons for broken vs. unbroken skill groups, like a lit lightning bolt vs. grayed-out bolt, or a sword vs broken sword. It'd save some screen real estate as well.

The whole "italicized skills can't be defaulted" thing isn't super-obvious, either, but I'm not so sure what to do about that one without taking up a bunch of space and annoying the folks who have memorized everything.

Hello. Today, I have a mission for you. I have decided to build an unarmed adept. He has 7 Magic, and I have no idea how to build this guy. I was even tempted to change him from an unarmed adept to a blade adept with a Katina until my GM let me use knucks as weapon foci. What powers should I take?
>>
>>49321281
Critical Strike & Elemental Weapon.
>>
>Critical Strike can apply to weapon attacks
>Elemental Weapon exists
>Weapon foci exist
>Penetrating strike isn't applicable to weapons
Why
>>
>>49321308
OK, I took looks at those, they look good. I'm going with fire for the element on it. I also took 4 levels of Penetrating Strike, and 2 levels in the reaction enhancing power. I also built 2 levels in Attribute Boost (Strength) Anything else?

>>
>>49321370

>>
>>49321327
What does elemental weapon/strike actually do though?
>>
>>49321459
Gives your attack an Elemental type, so you can get say, a flaming sword, an electric one, that stuff. There's also Toxic options.
>>
When making a chaos mage should I put 6 in WILL or 6 in INT? seems like going 6 INT and 5 WILL would be far more efficient.
>>
>>49321364
>2 levels in Attribute Boost (Strength)
Are you using the English or German version?
>This only affects your dice pools
Attribute Boost: Strength (English) is only for some very dedicated Lifting/Swimming/Running builds, and because it actually increases the attribute, it counts towards the same +4 maximum as any augmentation or other attribute bonuses.

In short; only get 1 rank, and only for Agility.

>4 levels of Penetrating Strike
Go for Berserk and Spirit Claw instead.

>2 levels in the reaction enhancing power
Improved Reflexes? If you have the cash/karma, a Qi Focus can be bought to gain the third rank. (which isn't a bad idea for low PP powers, either)

>>49321459
It does the stuff listed on Core 170-171. Fire helps stuff catch fire, Electricity reduces dice pools and initiative, Water does improved knockdown/puts out fires/shorts electrical goods (don't want to be touching them when this happens), Cold breaks armour, and Acid reduces Armour Value.

Electricity is the better choice, and it forces P damage vs Equipment & Drones/Vehicles.
>>
>>49321471
>>49321550
Is that even worth the points?
>>
>>49321570
Eeeeeeeh, not really.

Unrelatedly, why is the YOU ARE A DOLPHIN SWIM LIKE LIGHTNING power an entire fucking 1pp?

Is Swimming somehow THAT strong? If you swim hard enough, do you fucking take flight?
>>
>>49321570
For Fire? You need to be dedicated to setting things on fire without tools, and be playing the kind of game where that toollessness matters ... otherwise, not really.
>>
>>49321570
Acid is good against heavily armored targets, whittling their protection down and making them vulnerable to subsequent attacks.

Electricity reduces iniiative of the target, which limits their options.

Fire helps against weaker ones. Set one on fire, you won't have to waste a coup-de-grâce and be able to move to the next one immediately.

All in all, it can be a nice little bonus in the right situation, but you can perfectly do without.
>>
>>49321587
Swimming is really fuckin conditional on having any need for it. You can go entire campaigns where it's entirely unnecessary, or have others where it shows up every time you step outside.
>>
>>49321570
Acid can be theoretically useful, but it's a pretty niche thing for some armor stripping. You can punch down barriers faster with it, though, which functionally means that your adept can punch his way through a wall, any wall, given enough time. But again, pretty niche.
>>
>>49321633
OTOH, a dedicated punch adept can probably already Smashing Blow through walls.
>>
>>49321658
Maybe, but smashing blow is stupidly overpriced and it can ONLY be used on walls, while elemental is both cheaper and more versatile. Also, a bunker has 32 armor and 16 structure points. Even the hulkiest of troll adepts would have trouble with that one if it wasn't softened first.

My favorite variation, though, is the toxic adept version where you punch with radiation. Like, how is that even tangentially useful in a game? I guess beating up sprawl gangers and then checking up on them weeks or months later to watch their teeth and hair fall out?
>>
>>49321486
6 INT will give you an extra point of initiative and more starting knowledge skill points, 6 WILL gives you an extra dice on memory rolls and composure tests. Seems pretty clear cut in my opinion, you go INT.
>>
>>49321697
It's a toxic ability, it's not intended to be used by player, it's intended to be used on players, who might be around long enough to get cancer. Also, enough radiation can kill you pretty damn fast.
>>
>>49321852
Wil wil also grant you one more die to resist drain (unless you resist with WIL + INT), which is interesting. But I'd go for INT too. More init just seals the deal.
>>
>>49321892
Chaos Mages do in fact resist drain with WIL+INT. INT is the clear winner here.
>>
>>49320185
Take the players' character sheets and average out their combat rolls. Then, depending on how easy/hard they are remove/add dice.

Biggest difference I can figure is without him, there's no second matrix crash with the Novatech IPO. That means a slew of changes to the Corp landscape (Cross not getting wiped out, for example) and the Wired Matrix not getting destroyed all at once, so probably a slower transition to Wireless. Would probably have big knock-on consequences to the existence of Otaku, Technomancers and lesser AI as well.
>>
>>49321697
By RAW? Unarmed Adept+Smashing Blow+Radiation Elemental Strike means you do double DV to barriers and your attack ignores all armor unless it specifically has radiation resistance. And even then, it only adds the rad resistance.

This basically means that a Rad-adept Troll Ghoul is a fucking living bulldozer capable of tearing through any structure like it was made of butter.

Is it worth grabbing licenses for everything that you might possibly have on you? Or should you just avoid contact with law enforcement at any cost?
>>
>>49322810
Get licenses for things that you are or do; cops are going to pay close attention to a civilian with a shotgun, but they'll overlook a bit more if you're a parazoological exterminator.
>>
>>49322892
So if I get a license as a bounty hunter do you think they'd write off my narcojet-coated shurikens (not sure if book-legal but GM said it was okay), smgs, shock-gloves, restricted ammunition, restricted cyberlimbs, concealed weapons, and concealed carry?
>>
What are some interesting yet still viable builds?
>>
>>49322914
You always, always, always need a weapon license. Depending on how anal your GM is about that sort of thing, you may also need a concealed carry license, a driver's license, license for automatic weapons, etc.

If the GM (or the cops) decide to check EVERYTHING, there's a pretty good chance everything doesn't have all the licenses it should.

This is actually one of the advantages of playing a SINner, in that you don't need to pay for fake licenses for things that persona would normally do, like driving or having cyberware.
>>
>>49322979
My character is a SINner, but she has restricted cyberware and is planning on getting more. I assume that normal SINs wouldn't cover that, which is why I purchased a rating 4 fake SIN too, and then I've been grabbing licenses for everything like smgs and concealed carry and concealed weapons etc.
>>
How would you port Harrowed to SR5?
>>
>>49322993
Well as a SINner you really probably want an alter ego with a fake SIN to increase the chances that Aztechnology doesn't blow up your neighborhood. Unfortunately, if you get hauled into jail by the cops for botching a run there's a good chance your rating 4 SIN (and all the licenses with it) is going to get burned. That's probably the only time ALL of your licenses would get checked, so it's not really super-important to have a full array of licenses. It's only really important if you're playing a face-type character and you want to legitimize that identity.

You only really need the major things that cops or corpsec might inquire about on the street. I normally just get a weapons license, a concealed carry license, a driver's license, and a mage license.
>>
>>49323028
Got it, thanks!
>>
>>49322970
I've been thinking about playing a Nartaki mage of the Hindu tradition, probably going with a Great Mother totem and focusing on healing, party buffs, and nonlethal conflict resolution. Probably toss in the Conjuring skill group if I can afford it.

Sadly I don't really know enough about Hinduism to actually make it work, which is sad because apart from the weird caste system thing, Hinduism is an absolutely fascinating religion.
>>
>>49322914
Probably; you might struggle if you're in the middle of the street flashing your gear or something, but the major benefit of a fake licence is adding credence to the lie you're trying to tell someone. So if you get pulled up in Tacoma and you can convince the cop you're chasing a bounty you've got good odds of getting out of things without major problems.
>>49323016

HARROWED
Bonus: 15 BP (SR4A only)
Sometimes dying isn’t the worst thing in the world. A
character with the Harrowed quality has seen the other
side but was too tough, too mean, or too stupid to stay
dead. While he may have survived to tell his tale, he lives
a haunted life straddling the line between the living and
the dead. The character gains the effects of the qualities
Critter Spook (p. 117, Runner’s Companion), Nasty Vibe (p.
114, Runner’s Companion), and Spirit Bane [spirits of man]
(p. 96, SR4A). In addition, the threshold for any Treatment,
Stabilization, or Healing test performed on the character
(as opposed to by the character), including those made
by magical means, is increased by 1. At the gamemaster’s
discretion, any character who uses a Hand of God (p. 75,
SR4A) or Not Dead Yet (p. 57, SR5) to survive what would
otherwise be a fatal encounter may gain the Harrowed
quality during game play.

How much should one dump into skills at char creation?

Because I keep trying to go through this shit, always end up forgetting something important (like buying guns, or having a contact at all), and I have to start over because I squeeze myself short on points and have none I can squeeze out elsewhere. I know I'm buying too much everything, but I figure if I can trim my skills list to something reasonable I'll do fine. I don't know if that's it, considering I don't even max anything out.

I also might be spending too much on attributes
>>
>>49323084
First of all, what kind of character are you trying to build?
>>
>>49323064
Gotcha.

And does anyone know of any way of lowering availability on items a bit? I'm trying to make a character with four cyberlimbs and customizing them so that they're hitting the max stat limits for the metatype's str and agi, but if I try to buy them as alphaware they'll be at availability 13, and if I don't buy them at alphaware I'll have 0.03 essence left after everything which is probably not the best idea.

Funny thing is, the character's own attributes are already maxed as far as they can go for str and agi, so I'm not really looking for cheese, just for flavor, I guess.
>>
>>49323090
A (mostly) rusty combat medic. Using magic as well as mundane medical skills.
>>
>>49323084
What archetype are you going for?

Also, there's a bunch of skills that you don't really need more than 1 point in unless you're going to be filling that role for your group, like pilot ground if you're not rigging or computer if you're not decking. Shadowrun is also very skewed towards specialization during creation, because a skill from 0-1 is 1 skill point but 2 karma, but 5-6 is 1 skill point but 12 karma. For those lesser skills, I usually just pay the 2 karma so I'm not defaulting, or just leave them alone.

You can fill in the gaps and round out your character after a few runs. At creation, you're better off putting a handful of most-useful skills to 4+ at least.
>>
>>49323113
If you trim it down completely, you'll need:
- First Aid
- Medicine
- 1 combat skill
- Perception
- Etiquette
- Assensing (can help to see exactly what is wrong with someone)
- Spellcasting (To cast your Spells)

And that's basically it, along with a Medkit, a weapon, and some spells.

Summoning can be very useful in a pinch, if only to guard your back while you patch a wounded team member up.

If I make an infected Harvester variant elf, is it recommended to spec into magic powers because of the dual nature or should I just hide in rooms or something to avoid line of sight if people start throwing spells at me from far away?
>>
>>49323197
Melee skills aren't really required for a Mage, because touch spells exist.
>>
>>49323210
Harvesters are among the least affected by the drawbacks of being dual natured, because they can freaking move.

>>49323220
Even if it's only a point or so, it's useful to have so you're not borderline incompetent when using a knife in a situation that spells won't help you out of (ie; blades & survival knife when you need to cut yourself free of ... idk, awakened kelp), the local situation isn't conducive to spellcasting (bomb recently went off / there's a background count that's not aspected to the spells you want to cast), if you want to parry a melee attack (say, when there's not enough room to dodge), or in a pinch you need some knowledge about knives.

fgsfds.

Power Name 4th edition 5th edition
Critter Spook -5 BP (negative), -2 w/ animals -5 Karma (negative), -2 w/ animals
Nasty Vibe 5 BP (positive), +3 Intimidation 5 Karma (positive), +2 Intimidation
Spirit Bane [Man] -10 BP (negative), pisses off spirits -7 Karma (negative), limited to mages, -2 difficulty to summon, +2 resistance (for the spirit) to banish

So the total BP value was -10 in 4th edition. In 5th edition, the total Karma value is -7. The quality's total BP value was -15 though, which means that it had an extra surcharge of 50%. I would surmise this is because the character doesn't need to be a changeling to get Nasty Vibe with this quality. So for a 5th edition conversion, I'd still use the 50% surcharge, making the quality a 10-Karma negative quality. However, because this quality can be taken by non-mages, who otherwise cannot take Spirit Bane, I'd probably bump it up to a 15-point negative quality.

TL;DR - I'd say 15 points for 5th edition.

Alright, there is DEFINITELY something fucky with how Chummer is handling Infected. It's throwing off weird ass numbers on the attributes, it isn't reducing Essence properly, Mutaqua has Fear(Low-light Vision) as an option.
>>
>>49323526
>Tehnically speaking, Essence means diddly fuck for you.

Eh, what do you mean? My GM seems to be placing a lot of emphasis on having at least a bit of essence so you aren't a nearly mindless robot without personality.
>>
>>49323526
Alright.

What can I do to help with the Infected stuff? I'm looking into making one currently, and it isn't really working properly, and you've done a shitload for the community, and I want to at least help in some way.

How do I do that?

I don't know precisely what it's doing when you add the +1/+2 to attributes, but I'm fairly sure that's supposed to raise the minimum, and at present it just turns it into X (X+1 or X+2), rather than it being just like say metagenic improvement and actually increasing it. When I made a Troll Mutaqua, and I raised up my attributes after applying both bonuses to Str and to Will, it bugged out and the numbers started being off. Harvester, too, did the same general stuff. Numbers acting fucky and weird, not really appearing right.

As for the Essence thing, give them some sort of non-fillable non-removeable Essence Hole?
>>
>>49323539
>My GM seems to be placing a lot of emphasis on having at least a bit of essence so you aren't a nearly mindless robot without personality
Your GM has overemphasised the effect of low essence for their own reasons. Even at 0.01 Ess, you're only more prone to mental health issues.
>>
>>49323539
That's up to how responsible your GM is about fucking you in the essence hole
>>
>>49323561
Huh. If you could give me a source for that I'd love to show it to him.
>>
>>49323539
Your GM is describing something that's strictly fluff. The only thing that having low Essence really does is make your Social Limit slightly smaller (and I'm talking 1 or, at worst, 2 points smaller) as you become just slightly more awkward. And even then, Charisma remains by far the bigger component of that.

>This is what happens when people see others
with augmentations—on some level, people notice there is something less (or more) human about that, and they respond to it negatively. The change may not be exactly visible, but it is in some way noticeable—in one way or another, a person has become less human, and on some level other people notice this. This is why a character’s Essence is included in the calculation of their Social limit.

That is literally the text from the essence description in the core rulebook. That's the full extent of the effects of low essence. It weirds people out a bit because there's something about you that isn't quite right. At most, going from 6 to 0.01 takes off 2 from your social limit.

It's not the end of the world, and it doesn't make your character a robot. You'll get MORE respect from similarly-chromed folks, too, rather than less. From other runners and from gangers and the like.
>>
>>49323568
Have you asked them to specifically source their opinions on the subject? Have they compared those opinions with the enforced mechanics vs optional mechanics?

> There’s also the slight sense of a change in your body that comes with an implant. A lot of these sensations are subtle, but they add up. The slight loss of fl exibility in a limb with an implant, the slight temperature difference between a piece of ’ware and the rest of your body, or the way synthetic skin doesn’t stretch as well. Or simply the sense that there’s something in your body that isn’t supposed to be. Not only does it make you feel a bit different, it sometimes makes you feel like you’re not even yourself.
> Hard Exit

> Some of the disassociation may come from people’s responses to heavily-cybered individuals. Having a conversation with someone who never blinks can be unnerving, not to mention if his eyes glow with blacklight intensity and his body happens to be built like a refrigerator. Someone sporting that much ’ware can’t help but pick up on feelings of alienation from the people around them.

Hmmm. Well, for starters I'd need to know what's actually missing from them. I suspect it's mostly just the initiative modifier, but it could be qualities and such. Um. The optional powers they can take are probably all fucked up as well, I didn't put much effort into that.

Nobody's given me a straight answer on whether the bonus to attributes is supposed to affect the base rating (ie increase karma costs) or not, so that'll be why they're shown as bonuses.

For Harvester:

The Attribute bases are fine, Armor bonus is there, Movement, Enhanced Vision, Dual Natured, Natural Weapons, those are all fine.

I'm UNSURE if they're properly getting their -1 Cha, since the base is 1/4, and it's still 1/4, so I don't know how that one is calculated properly. Presumably, it's correct as it currently is, since the base dropped to 1/4 out of 3/8. Logic Also dropped to 1/4, so dunno on that.

They're DEFINITELY missing +1d6 Initiative Die, their Movement Rates need an extra +1 multiplier and that needs to be compatible with Celerity if they end up taking it.

Does that help somewhat?

I don't think this is unique to Infected, though. >The problem with the -1 LOG/CHA thing is that again, nobody's given me an answer on whether it's supposed to be a dice pool malus or actually affect the base rating
Logically, I'd go with dice pool malus. If it affects the attribute, they would have started with a lower base attribute.

I'll take another look at them tomorrow sometime in karmagen, far as I know they WERE working properly.

Initiative bonus looks like it's being applied as a general unnamed bonus for some reason. Like I said, the attribute malus is annoying and vague, but as far as I can tell it adheres to raw. AFAIK, any attribute penalties cannot reduce an attribute below 1, except in the case of things like Nerve Strike.

Also, I'm like 99% sure I have an old build, or that the site hasn't updated.

https://github.com/chummer5a/chummer5a/releases

As of the time of posting, the latest build is: Nightly-v5.183.41, which doesn't appear to have the Harvester changes.

If it's an Unnamed bonus, shouldn't it just be stacking with everything? It isn't even appearing in the basic init, since default a Harvester with nothing else should be at X+2d6 Initiative Dice, I'm fairly sure.

And yeah, I can report them on Github too.

Honestly, I'll probably say fuck it and throw up a Discord sometime if interest shows in it. IS anyone interested in that? Place to shoot the shit, maybe organize games, somewhere with a bit more permanence than the threads? Not in place of the threads, just as an additional thing.

There are seven people on each team, one goalkeeper and six runners (very original, I know). A goal is worth one point, with 13 being the point limit. If a shot at the goal is missed and goes out of bounds, the keeper throws the ball back into play, and both sides start on that half of the field in each quarter. The field is oval shaped, separated into quarters, and a semicircle in the last quarters that are the goalkeeper's boundaries there is a circle at the center line where the captains of both teams face off in the toss up as in basketball. Players are not restricted by the boundary lines, but the ball is. Whether or not the ball was caught out of bounds, it automatically means the team that didn't touch it last throws it back into play from the quarter it went OoB from, unless it is in the opposing goal quarter, in which case it is thrown back into play a quarter back

If you've got a drone set or if you're a hacker style character, there's going to be quite a lot of changes, but analogous options exist for the most part. Magic is almost unchanged.

Perfect way to describe how I've always thought campaigns work for the most part. If there is going to be an actual story, then certain things tend to be necessary for that story. How you get from Point A to Point Z might take you through Points G, U, T, E, and then 7, or just straight through the alphabet. This is where the players choices matter and change things.

Could anyone help me out? I'm a newbie 4e GM, and my group have done the Food Fight and On The Run modules, and I'm looking for something to move onto, but not really sure where to look, and I'm definitely not at the point where I could write my own campaign or anything.

Would anyone be able to point me in a direction to go for 4e? Stuff to look at or anything?

Bearing in mind that I have the 4e GM screen and some books, would making the jump to 5e be beneficial at all?
>>
>>49330034
>direction to go for 4e
As in direction to where I can find more material?
Or as in "What direction should I set the campaign?" ?

First is easy
READ THE GHOST DAMN OP PASTEBIN

second is harder:
What did your players prefer: Legwork, Talking, Drama or Combat? Order them from most liked to least liked
What did YOU prefer? Same as above
Long arcs or Run Of The Week?
What do you want to focus on in the runs? Technology? Magic? Wildlife? Metahumanity (the top and the flop)? Occultism? Oppression? You decide

If you prefer the paper books, then no don't get to 5e. If you don't mind getting digital and taking the copies in OP and you've had problems with cheesemonkeys rolling 20+ dice or vandeckers, then switch. If none of the above, your choice.

As for adventures, nothing wrong with kicking it old school. Queen Euphoria is well regarded as one of the best ever made though it might lose some of the impact now that bugs are well known, but told well it's still a good time, Mercurial and Imago are solid, as is Elven Fire. I stand by the original Harlequin book as something that can work entirely without Immortal Elf bullshit, and just be two powerful people dicking with each other over personal beef, which gives a good opportunity to play up parts of SR that get lost in corporate espionage.

Those are not questions that can be answered well on a Syrian bombmaking forum, because they're very specific to the group. I've seen literally all those variations preferred by different players and different groups. It's the kind of thing you need to sit down with them and talk about, to make sure everyone's on the same page about why you're playing pretend with a bunch of fat beardos for 6 hours every other week.

I did not say that he has to decide them on this south american lama herding site. But thinking about them is a good idea.
A group that likes talking and interacting with characters is gonna be bored to death if most runs are "Go there, kill them, get paid" just like if they wanted fast paced action and got "here is a social get together, infiltrate it, talk these people into telling you the info, then leave quietly"

But the GM should try to make the runs something he enjoys as well. Maybe have some conversations between leaders, plan an attack and then go full out. Maybe suddenly the get together is attacked by armed mercenaries that have taken hostages, save them and kill the attackers.

Third is about what the GM is good at. Personally I want to make long Story lines, but I recognize that I'm better with small, short runs interspersed with story relevant ones.

Fourth is simply: What do you and your players like about the setting? Do you enjoy the new stuff being discovered or created? Do you want to fight giant monsters? Or do you prefer your runs to be about how people live in absolute poverty, unbelievable wealth, who are alone, together by choice or necessity?

So, the rules state that you can't make magical bullets with alchemy, because.... like, the barrel will scratch and damage the "anchor".

I was looking through the core rule book, and I read through the Dart Gun and I had an idea.

Could you use alchemy to make a potion (basically) and put it into those darts, so you could snipe with it, and the fluid inside the dart remains undamaged?

>>
How do you feel about bosses or boss encounters in your games, /srg/
>>
>>49331280
As >>49331363 indicated, you won't be very good at it. Depending on the associated attribute.
Which does not mean, that you can get none information out of the matrix whatsoever. I'd say that total surface stuff like looking up a term on a Wikipedia equivalent needs a rool.

But anything to do with more obscure, in-depth information, or sources of information that are more close community, you will have a hard time getting into.
>>
>>49331508
>I'd say that total surface stuff like looking up a term on a Wikipedia equivalent needs a rool.

>>

>>
>>49331473
They should be big robots, big monsters or big robot monsters.
>>
>>49331849
Because in my eyes it works the same as comparable skills. Like driving ground vehicles. You don't need to roll to go to your nearest NovaBurger franchise and get through the drive-thru without crashing. Your character manages day-to-day activities without any challenge just fine.

The same goes for computer related skills, and moreso for data search. If it is information that any schmuck with a commlink can google up in 30 seconds, a roll is wasted time.
Exception can be made, if your character has some special impediment, like computer illiteracy or uneducated. Something that shows that he is less versed in using the matrix than your next Joe.

Of course, the juicy information, that will hold real value for a runner, will be harder to find/gain access to. That is what the skill is for.

And another tidbit to >>49331280 's original question. Matrix Search and other matrix actions seem to be simple [Computerskill] + [Attribute] tests limited by the stats of your commlink. So it depends on the associated computerskill like Computer or Cyberwarfare and if those can be defaulted on. If yes, I see no reason not to be able to use the associated matrix action, albeit with the effects of defaulting.
>>
>>49331868
You could do it with magic; Shape [Ice], Ice Spear and Ice Storm, etc.

Add in some HoldFast spray and a customized suit of light milspec (gas mask in the meantime), and you're close enough.
>>
>>49331473
Well first of all there is the rule for SR: "If you let your players fight the boss he will most likely die"
I like my bosses far away, never doing things directly, instead manipulating events to get there. Instead of a single enemy to fight, pit them against an army, or at least a few professionals. Use the surroundings to challenge them.
You want to cast in here? Too bad, Background count, better hope you have a backup.
You coordinate everyone? Too bad, jamming and blocking, better hope you can meet up again.
You focus on legwork to plan everything? Too bad, maps are outdated, Guard rotations don't cover the fresh force, Contacts are unavailable.
You have an escape plan? Too bad, tunnel is ghoul infested, doors are slamming shut, cyberzombie out of nowhere

Make them realize that no matter how well they prepare, there is always SOMETHING they missed

>>
>>49332012
>Your character manages day-to-day activities without any challenge just fine.
You might want to re-read what you wrote, because what I quoted said you think people should have to roll Matrix Perception to do a Google search for a dictionary definition
>>
>>49324750

>>
>>49332412

Shallow matrix searches in publicly available and well-known sites should not require a skill-test.
>>
>>49332064
>"If you let your players fight the boss he will most likely die"

Now that's not necessarily true. One boss our group fought is arguably still alive. Of course, he probably wishes he was dead, given that we handed him over to the Triads for pissing them off, but still... Technically, still alive.
>>
>>49332557
>most likely
and yeah, it probably should be generalized to "most likely lose", but given the average party "die" fits
>>
>>49332064
Going "ha ha, you fail" no matter what the players do is bullshit and you know it, omae
>>
Do you get better results from doing karma point buy or just doing sum to ten/standard priority? I feel like the normal sum to ten/standard method gives more free stuff or something?
>>
>>49332612
>ha ha, you fail
that's the extreme which one shouldn't cross.
The other is "you suddenly can't do that. Oh you still want to? Well okay then.
The changes should not stop them from being able to finish the run unless the runners are (exceptionally) stupid. Every of these should be solvable with other means. Think "Sensors not specified in the plans", "Guard pulling a Watergate", "having to run from ghouls in the sewers", ...
Something that throws a wrench in your gears.
These things should be used just often enough: not enough and the players don't feel challenged, too many and the players lose hope
>>

Fair enough then. I'm pretty sure most SR can avoid killing when necessary though, and in this case it kinda got us off the hook for technically failing the run (though the girl was dead days before we even got the job, so I still call it unfair).
>>
Harvester has the benefit/drawback that you get everything up front, but there's nowhere to go from there.

Banshee will require 2 months or more of in-game time before it gets access to regen, and then another 2 months before it gets a second power.
>>
>>49332892
Alright, I'll go ahead and download the latest version and test it again.
>>
>>49333002
Hm, what do you mean that there's nowhere to go from there? As in there are no more optional powers to take? She'll still be an adept, which means initiation, right?

Also do you know how much the karma cost is for purchasing optional powers after the two months? I can't find it.

Yeah, I meant that there's nothing else to take from being a Harvester. No effect on anything else.

Optional powers - you're looking for a side bar in Run Faster's Infected section, with all the powers and a number listed next to each.
