Initial topic of the thread: What currently unviable strategy or unit would you like to see come back into the competitive meta?
>>
I want to see standard tanks make a come back. Right now Sabers, Type-1s, Hunters, Hannibals are on the back burner. Big bricks of those would be fun again.
>>
>>49244709
Well scourge tanks are definitely coming back into style with the overseer. That could cause Ares to come back in style, considering they still hit hunters and slayers on a 3+. We might, by an extension, see Gladius's come into style. We probably won't see many hannibals since they're heavy choices though.
>>
>>49244618
>What currently unviable strategy or unit would you like to see come back into the competitive meta?
Personally, Bricktari. The leopard+dreamsnare is a dream come true.
>>
>initial topic
Taking ground APCs. Like, at all. Currently it just costs your extra points (because the APC need a transport as well) for no major benefit. Some of them have nice models but there just seems no reason to use the buggers compared to a faster, cheaper aircraft.

Also, semi-related, taking infantry that isn't A4, resistant to masonry, with dodge, and a high CQC value. I know not every faction can tick all those boxes, but it feels like too many can, or that those units are too easy to spam. Maybe APC+dropship being on a par points-wise with a troop transport dropship might tempt people to take more normal infantry, I dunno. Or maybe they should consider handing Rare status out on a few more things/limited Exotic slots a bit more.
>>
>>49244895

It would be cool if you could entrench light infantry. Like if they don't move or do anything they dig in and increase their resistance and cover by 1 point. So then they could go to the wall and have plus 1 to damage and plus 1 for falling masonry.
>>
I'd have APCs provide medivac or whatever. Gives infantry a 6+ save, at all times if it's parked near the building, provided you won the CQB or survived shooting.
>>
>>49244709
Phobos get used for anti-air purposes.
>>
>>49244709
They need a special rule.
"Mainstay": dropships transporting these units are reduced to half cost, or something.
>>
>>49245316

I was thinking something similar. Like if the required slots (the 1 standard, 1 troop) you get a discount if it is X unit.
>>
I think what they've done with the Ares is quite neat. With its accuracy never being made worse than -1, it's still kind of useful in an age of E countermeasure stuff. The odin's probably still better (though I haven't cranked the numbers) but the ares isn't completely useless.

I think stuff like that, or the hunter's overseer bonus, is the way to go. Just something to induce people to take more than the bare minimum of stuff.

>>49245316
Or, have them count double on focal points.
>>
>>49245600
Make objective searching less efficient, necessitating more infantry at cost?
>>
>>49245600

I would take ares if they were symetrical. I take Phobos because they're mandatory
>>
>>49245676
>I would take ares if they were symetrical.

Same. I just do not like the look of the Ares, whereas the Odin is one sexy, sexy beast.
>>
/dcg/, my DzC starter set comes in the mail on Saturday and Hobby Lobby is all gay and is closed on Sundays, so I need to make a list of shit to pick up. I have absolutely no supplies right now. I'm wanting to do something like a panzer grey color scheme.
-Hobby knife
-A shitton of magnets so I can dick around and try that (looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrys7lxyatk)
-A little hobby hand drill for magnety purposes
-Some kind of undercoat? White?
-Panzer grey vallejo paint
-A lighter grey for drybrushing?
-Some kind of black, white, or yellow to paint over the magnets
-Maybe some other color(s) for highlighting other bits on the models. Suggestions?
I'm sure I'm missing shit.
>>
>>49246033
Oh, I forgot to add some kind of black wash. Vallejo's if they have it or else I'll have to go find some nuln oil.
>>
>>49246050
Army Painter's Dark Tone is a good one.
>>
>>49246033
Pure grey may be a bit dull, a red for any optics etc. could make the models more interesting. You'll probably want a metallic colour for gun barrels etc. as well (I'm assuming you're doing the UCM out of the starter given the grey scheme).
>>
>>49246033
Might want to pick up a metallic grey for exposed wiring or gun mounts. Also do you have brushes you're planning to picj up? Also also, which starter set? Painting Scourge is a bit different from UCM or PHR.
>>
>>49246197
>>49246224
Ah, right, I forgot metallic for the guns. I knew I was forgetting something. And I'm trying to figure out if I should just go with red for the optic bits or what. I guess so. I did leave out that I'm picking up a few basic brushes.
Also, I got the 2-player starter set, but I'm only planning on painting the UCM for now.
>>
>>49246261
Maybe a simple black for treads as well then?
>>
>>49246033
Is it me or is the guy's voice in that video kinda creepy?
>>
>>49246284
Ah! Another simple thing I forgot, thanks.
>>
>>49246338
With that you seem fine. Metallic paint, basecoat, detail coating for the treads, sensors and all that. Primer, magnets, hobby knives, you have clippers for getting the models off their sprues?
>>
>>49245676
>>49245874
>scrubs not taking a model because muh symmetry

Asymmetrical mechs have always looked better.
>>
>>49246405
I think I have some dykes and nail clippers around somewhere. Are dedicated sprue clippers really that good?
>>
>>49246448

You can get some side clippers for like 5 bucks. They are worth it over nail clippers.
>>
>>49246438

I don't even mind asymmetry as a rule, the type 1 walkers just look awful compared to all the other walkers. I wish PHR had some other standard choice
>>
>>49246033
Forgot a med flesh tone for legionnaires.

The only faction where taking light infantry in air transports is cheaper is the PHR, for every other faction to get the same amount of infantry its more expensive for light dropships.

Also I dont know why you would skimp on scourge warriors they have a fantastic anti tank weapon and being a building they are fairly resiliant and far from an optimum target to shoot at, also the only factions with A4 infantry are UCM, Shaltari, and Scourge, and the UCM A4 Infantry are terrible in CQB.

>>
>>49257778

Every PHR vehicle has that cockpit, anon.
>>
>>49257809

Offset being the key word here.
>>
>>49257829
And? That doesn't make it any more or less a "tumor"
>>
>>49257702
Yeah, not that guy, but it clearly is.

What do you think it is?
>>
>>49257879
A sensor pod, which is why it ranges in size from too small for a person to fit in to the size of a light truck depending on the vehicle.
>>
The Type-1 cockpit does look sort of random and out-of-place. I can see where you'd get the impression that it seems sort of tumorous.

To be honest, I don't mind it being off to one side, but I do mind what this does to the overall chassis of the Type-1's. Their top looks extremely flat and weird because of it.
>>
>>49257867

The tumor meme with the Type 1 is that the Type 1 is actually completely symmetrical besides its gun until the cockpit was CAD'd into the left radiator fin, of which it looks like it's growing out of. Thus, the tumor.
>>
>>49257896

Considering on the non scorpion mechs it's the only place big enough to put a person, it's the cockpit

It's also referred to as the cockpit in one of the PHR stories about a menchit
>>
>>49257907
>into the left radiator fin
The radiators are on the back
>>
>>49257930
>it's the only place big enough to put a person

>>
>>49257938

And they just happen to line up perfectly with the ridges on top that run the length of the mech, it's a mystery.
>>
>>49257956

>>
>>49257996
And the award for crashing this argument with no survivors goes to...
>>
>>49248002
Super slowpoke but it's perfectly straight in the print copy.
>>
>>49257930

So I recall reading somewhere the dome things on the saber tanks were not cockpits and were most like sensor pods. I would be the same for the PHR stuff.

The idea being you don't want to have you pilot so easy to spot you automatically target them.
>>
>>49257986
The main hull is about the size of a Sabre, but AFVs are typically pretty cramped. The also tend to put the operators deep inside where they are protected.
>>
>>49258102

>>49258081

You mean where that hinge is at on most other sensor pods big enough to hold people?

It couldn't be that it also serves as the cockpit, could it?

>>49258111

That's reasonable but the optics pod on the sabre is much smaller where as the pod on all the PHR walkers is scaled to fit a person in it.

this is all ignoring the actual fluff that describes it as the cockpit in universe
>>
>>49258128
Makes sense. You could do a different gun model but it really has no features that scream "custom modification"

Now for my question:

Why does the Broadsword have no secondary armament? A machine gun would be a trivial addition and running solo (as opposed to in groups like the Sabre) it's going to be extra vulnerable to ambush by infantry.
>>
>>49258192
It couldn't be that the operator sits well underneath the pod, could it?
>>
>>49258192
>this is all ignoring the actual fluff that describes it as the cockpit in universe
Where would I find this fluff?
>>
>>49258211

So the goal posts move from that the pilot is crammed in the ass of the mech to the pilot sits slightly lower than the pod itself, which is closer to but not quite the truth it seems.

According to the hinge seams, it's pretty reasonable to think that the pilot on most PHR vehicles sits behind the pod, especially if that hinged door slides back.

Why? The only thing that would outperform sirens on is surviving flame weapons.
>>
>>49258450

I just want more immortal models. I have no idea how to make them different from hazard suits though.

Maybe give them jump jets so they can drop from aircraft without landing? Obviously don't give them all the other Valkyrie stuff
>>
>>49258193
Because it's specialized for one thing.

Personally, I'm a big fan of it. It shores up one of the real problems the faction had. More Broadswords mean you don't need as many Eagles for popping armor, which means you can fit more BRRRRRT in your list.
>>
>>49258496
How about an electronic warfare "weapons" team? Like what the UCM has, but with laptops and parabolic antennas

Possible in game effects:
-Screw with enemy targeting
-Once per round veto your opponent's choice of which battlegroup they want to activate (would not prevent reaction fire) (maybe only a 4+ or something, and need line of sight to at least one unit in the vetoed battlegroup)
-Affect command card hands
>>
>>49258606

Yeah that could be neat

I was even thinking going full blown (book) starship troopers and having Immortal teams that are the legitimate gap between infantry and walkers.

Give them A4, smart missiles, Flamers, shaltari like suit counter measures and jump jets. Let them deploy from orbital drop onto the table.

Don't let them have the building hopping rule of Valkyries but maybe a special rule for using their flamethrowers inside a building.
>>
>>49258523
Literally just the machine gun from a Sabre would be plenty
>>
>>49258673
>the legitimate gap between infantry and walkers.
This implies that there is a role which needs to be filled. What role is that?
>>
>>49258606
Give them CQB 1 (as opposed to 0.5 like UCM weapon teams get), and make them extra-rare- you can only have one, regardless of game size.

Troop, scout, or exotic?

A good Janus
>>
>>49258762
Janus B; it sacrifices both its stealth missiles and mini gun for a single light railgun, a weaker version of the Apollo gun.

Does it see play?
>>
>>49258810

Oh great, a slow E8 gun.
>>
>>49258810
No, because the Janus model is shit.
>>
>>49258810

What if we made Janus just as fast as the Helios with special stealth missiles that have longer range but keep their current fewer amount of attacks?
>>
>>49258953
Hi the Janus IS as fast as the helios (they both move 6")
>>
>>49258976

You can tell how much I play Janus

Okay, 6" and ignores obstacles else than 6" tall.
>>
>>49258762
The Janus's problem is that it does nothing well. It's a bad scout, since it's slow on foot and not survivable, nor is it cheap or disposable.

It's bad AT. Stealth Missiles are notoriously garbage at harming even the weakest tanks.
It's bad AA. Front arc only, low range, weak damage, low accuracy...

Look at it in comparison to say, a Resistance Gun Technical. Which is actually superior AA, while being nearly a third of the price, faster, coming in with more useful transport options in larger numbers, etc.

Janus needs to have it's points cost like, halved. And even then, it wouldn't be great.
>>
>>49259233

Well we just have to think about what makes the Helios GoAT and the Janus absolutely garbage and adjust from there.
>>
>>49259428
well, its only 7 points more for an additional DP, 2 more armor, a gun that trades its AA capabilites for 3 more energy and demolisher 2, the skimmer rule, and losing scout to be a troop transport. So if we could adjust the Janus just a bit to be a bit better in any of those direction the Janus would be more reasonable.
>>
>>49259486

you're thinking of the Angelos m80

The Helios has stealth AA missiles but it just shoots way more of them per model
>>
>>49258810
Like an E9 SH1 AC2+ R 18"/36"?

Maybe. Depends on the point cost. It certainly could do well against opponents bringing decent numbers of units with more mobility and less armor (scourge and shaltari come to mind), but in the end I would still expect Apollos to be preferred.

What I think might see more play is two AA shots at E6
>>
>>49259548
oh hell, my bad. So its 37 points for the armor mentions, weapons with 1 less energy but overall 5 more shots, and support instead of transport. So theoretically if we added an extra shot to the Janus you'd be getting 2 less shots for equal point amounts of Helios, and maybe bump its armor up a little bit since its still a damn PHR walker?
>>
>both phase 1 and phase 2 have had Corsairs getting blown up on the cover
kek
>>
>>49259428
Helios: A8, 2 DP, skimmer, 2x3 E6 AA SC shots F/S/R
Janus: A7, 1 DP, walker, 1 E7 AA SC shot F, plus the PHR standard minigun

Movement/survivability-wise the helios is identical to a scourge heavy grav tank. Contrary to >>49259233, I don't think the front-only arc of fire is that big of a deal for the Janus, but it has nil survivability and very poor offense.

However, I don't think we should turn the Janus into a Helios broken up into smaller pieces. Here is what I would do:
-give it the apollo's air drop rule (those legs look awfully springy)
-E+1 countermeasures for adaptive camouflage
-Bump the missile from E7 to E8

My main concern is that this might be too good against skimmers. It's currently 64 points for two Janus and a Triton B.
>>
>>49259645
Well you're ignoring the fact that it's a scout and it has a cheaper transport than the helios, but mostly yes.

Heres a thought reduce the price on the janus, give the missile two fire modes, AT E7 Focus 2, and AA SH 2, E6
>>
>>49259963
It's still expensive as fuck for what it provides. Being no more survivable against most weapons than a Gun Technical, being worse AA (2+ accuracy is better than the higher E), while costing over twice as much.

They're just bad scouts, since Valks exist as well and are great.

>64 bears to 32 condors
>5 kodiaks to 5 condors
>3 ferrums to 3 albatross
>36 wolverines to 18 raven B
>assuming 1 chromia to 1 albatross
>960 legionaries to 64 bears
>30 praetorians to 3 raven A
>40 legionaries to 4 raven A

That leaves a remainder of 5 Raven A, 63 Condors, and 4 Albatross.

>>49260142
agreed
>>
>>49260187
Back up transports for if things go down.
>>
>>49260209
for the Raven A's, absolutely.

However, everything else works out to a combined dropship "mass" of 207, while there is a remainder of 225 mass worth of dropships, which means about 2 albatross or 6 condors extra, which seems about right.
>>
>>49260187
6x Condors for Gladius, 4x Condors for Scimitars, 3x Condors for Katanas, 3x for Fireblades.

That uses up 16 Condors.

Presumably, other dropships are spares or alternates, or used for non-combat stuff such as lifting logistics or ammo resupply.
>>
>>49260331
Oh, and your 33 Sabre transports and 20 rapier transports
So that uses up an additional 53 Condors, leaving you now with -6 condors... which equates to 4 Albatross.

So actually, that accounts for all the armor. There's no spares.
>>
>>49260331
It could be assumed that of the 4 albatross however, 2 are tank blocks (6 sabre 3 rapier) and 2 are heavy tank blocks (4 gladius 2 scimitar); this gets rid of all albatross, and leaves us with 87 sabres, 54 rapiers, 4 gladius, and 4 scimitar.

putting everything into condors we get:

>87 sabres (29 condor)
>54 rapier (18 condors)
>4 gladius (2 condors)
>4 scimitars (2 condors)
>9 katana (3 condors)
>9 fireblades (3 condors)

For a total of 57 condors, with 6 extra remaining.

For those who complained about how few people man some of the larger ship sizes, I present to you the Zumwalt, which was activated just today.

The Zumwalt destroyer is 600 feet in length, has a displacement of near 15,000 tons, is capable of a speed of 30 knots, and is crewed entirely by 140 personnel.

The Zumwalt is the pinnacle modern warfare technology including stealth, advanced gun and missile systems, cutting edge radar and sonar, and a Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure (TSCEI).

Compared to the average American destroyer, the Zumwalt is 20% longer, has twice the displacement, is just as fast at top speed, and requires only 60% of the crew size, meaning it is approximately 40% larger than a Arleigh Burke-class destroyer (one of the largest existing class of destroyer) while its radar cross section would be more comparable to a commercial fishing boat. This is thanks to the integrated deckhouse/hull design which is made of special composite materials.

As for acoustical signature it's comparable to a submarine of moderate silence, and has specially designed hull elements to reduce thermal signature as well.

More after the jump.
>>
>>49266001
I was a dummy and forgot to attach an image.

The 'Advanced Gun System' of which the Zumwalt has two is a 155mm bore naval gun that can fire a 24 pound charge at a target 83 nautical miles (154km) away with 93% of the projectiles landing within 100 meters of the target. With a water cooled barrel, each gun is able to fire ten rounds per minute. Secondary 30mm guns were added to increase the versitility of the ship's defenses verses smaller faster ships.

The vertical launch system is designed to reduce danger from magazine explosions and has its missile pods scattered around the periphery of the ship, with a thick inner shield to direct explosions outwards in case of detonation.

Advanced dual band radar and dual band sonar give the Zumwalt detection capabilities above and below water nearly equivalent to aircraft carriers.

The ship's electronic systems (the TSCEI) are served by 16 server blades each in shock, vibration, and electromagnetically shielded modular enclosures. Every system on the ship is integrated into this architecture with large amounts of automation allowing a minimum crew to be reduced to 130. The Common Display System allows sailors to monitor and control equipment with a unified and seemless interface.

Bonus factoid:
The third (and last) Zumwalt-class destroyer the 'Lyndon B. Johnson' is being considered to carry a railgun in the place of one of its 155mm main guns. Ad Vindictam

>>49266001
>>49266034
So to sum up, we've made a ship bigger, stealthier, more advanced, AND it can be crewed by HALF the amount of crew of an average destroyer.

With more automation and advanced systems, I imagine crew sizes are going to shrink even further in the future.

Oh, and one other fun fact, the Navy is designing radar reflectors for the Zumwalt to use when not on missions and crossing shipping channels because it's TOO stealthy.

Imma post some fiction while I have those files open.

>

“Abraxis, what’s our record for kills in a single volley?”
“68, Master.”
Ciaus let himself float through the neural net connecting his dormant body to the Menchit walker. All systems were preforming well, and Abraxis – his AI – was ready for the hunt.
“I think we can do better than that, don’t you? Give me a precision battle view with a movement-acquisition overlay”
The questing tendrils of his mind ran though the battle walker, solidified into a 180-degree view of a wrecked urban plaza. The view was crystal clear despite the smog and dust of battle, with everything stationary tinged dark grey.
Instantly bright blue movement flashes lit up in the grey; Scourge infantry dodging and weaving towards the static walker.
“Abraxis, set firing triggers to mind impulse. Minigun triad. Give me a count; Ascending, top right. And….begin”
He lashed out with his mind, pinpoint three round bursts changing each moving blue blur to a blue smear before it melting into the immobile grey. The kill counter to the right of his vision ticked upwards rapidly. 19.20.21.22.23.24.
“This is an inefficient use of the RX-20’s potential killing power, Master” chided the AI.
“Damn. Missed one. You put me off my aim.”
“Apologies Master.”
“Well it’s ruined now. Full cycle, scythe fire” he ordered, lazily switching to auto-targeting with a thought.
The guns cycled up, spraying death left and right with lethal efficiency. Blurs that were once host warriors were obliterated. Where they had taken cover, rubble and flesh were churned up together. Where they were caught in the open, they simply evaporated; bodies burst open and turned to a thin red mist.
>>
>>49268383
“Further threats indicated. Western approach. My Master, these are unregistered hostiles. Searching Pantheon data banks for the most prudent course of action”
“Abraxis, what is my first rule?”
“But recent encounters with these hostiles suggest that even the application of the RX-666 is not sufficient–”
“The first rule?”
“Everything burns, Master.”
“Everything burns Abraxis.”

Hulking shapes appeared on the movement scanners, three times the size of the previous enemy infantry. Even with his mind suspended in the neural connections of the walker, Caius felt their heavy footfalls. No matter. Everything burns.
“Re-load all. Concentrated fire from the Miniguns. Hold Flamethrower until half effective distance. Let them come on.”
The grey filter darkened as he saw them for the first time, hulking brutes with arms lashed to glowing blue cannons. They seemed to register his stare and paused in their thudding advance. Three of them, tri-eyed. They stopped in their tracks to regard him like a piece of meat to be devoured. Spittle dripping from un-human fangs, they charged at the walker, roaring and crushing the corpses of fallen scourge as they charged.
I am no prey-thing to be discounted so easily brutes, thought Ciaus.
“Belay previous. Full auto, let fly all, empty the tank.” He snarled.
“Let them taste the RX-666. Immolate them.”

Jets of liquid flame leapt from the walker towards the beasts. Super-heated fuel bathed them in fire. What had been bellows of hate turned to agonised grunts and wails of pain. Armour cracked and split, the alien meat inside turning black and boiling away inside its own shell.
“Everything burns, Abraxis”
In the flickering light of the destruction he had wrought, Caius smiled.
“We’ll wait for the flames to die down and echo-mark the location. They die very easily for large creatures, but Pantheon data banks should be updated non-the-less.”
“Master, sensors indicate-”
Before the AI could finish the dying flames erupted with blue light. Charged plasma impacted the right side of the hull, melting the flamethrower and sending angry red warning flashes across Caius’s vision.

“Abraxis, report!”
“Everrrrrything burns M-a--a--st--e-e-r-r”
“Abraxis!”
Reaching out in the neural link Caius probed for the damage report.
RX-666 Flamethrower: Offline.
Primary Gyroscopes: Offline.
Secondary systems: attempting to compensate. Failed.
Primary AI Core: heavy damage.
Primary servos: Offline.
Redundancies: Offline. Servos Failing.
Through a haze of red warnings and beating emergency klaxons, Caius could still make out the plaza. Heat blasted concrete and molten metal was spread over the streets, but even as the fires receded he could see something moving amongst the carnage.
Caius pulsed urgent disbelief into the mind link.
>>
>>49268438
“They’re still alive! Abraxis, How are they still alive? Respond!”
“Eeeee…every….---every {ERROR} everythin-g….BURN BURNBURNssss - Everything burns Masssterrr”
Two of the beasts were rising from the heat. One had no eyes left, the red orbs cracked and burnt out. But still it rose, thick black tongue lolling out of its mouth as if tasting the air for the foe.
The other had lost one eye, but in the guttering flames the remaining two shone blood red. Half its body and most of the snout were blackened to charcoal, and its left arms hung uselessly from stringy bundles of cooked muscle and sinew.
It was the right arm that Caius focused on. It glowed bright and deadly, pulsing blue-white in the grey of his vision.
The barrel spewed plasma. Everything was in motion. The Menchit toppled backwards and was sheared in half at the waist by the power of the charged weapon.
The images in Caius’s mind turned hazy and began to swim in and out of view. Red flashing sigils were everywhere, catastrophic damage to all systems indicated.
>>
>>49268463
“EVERYTHING {ERROR-logic:-:designation ABRAXIS not found} burnsmasterburnsmasterburns–“
Abraxis, badly damaged, stuck in a logic loop.
He had to disconnect. If the walker died with his mind linked, he could no longer count on the fail-safes to get him out before complete system crash. Forcing an emergency severance, he blacked out for a few seconds, feeling his mind return to his human form.
The first thing he felt was the pain. Flooding his senses and nearly overwhelming him, even the stims in his body could not cope. His right leg was gone; his left, a bubbling, melted mess of flesh and metal.
The next thing that hit him was the smell. The acrid stench of cooked, rancid meat, burning oil and molten plastics made him light headed and nauseated. The destruction of his walker and his own body melded into a fug that clung to him.
The last thing he felt were globules of tar-black drool dropping on his face. His head lolled back in the command chair and his eyes bulged as he looked into the hungry crimson orbs staring down at him.

Compliments of the UCM

“Come on! Move it move it!” Lieutenant Vinnig shouted, counting off the five remaining men as they passed him, before following them up the street towards a blue signal flare by an old bus. Taking cover before the rendezvous was not an option – this monster just stomped it flat or shot right through it.
The sounds of carnage echoed down the street after his squad.
Risking a glimpse backwards, he saw plumes of fire and smoke fill the road. The charred remains of a Wolverine pin-wheeled into the ground floor of the building to his right and then exploded, causing glass to rain down over the squad. He ran and jumped over the remains of a civilian car, sliding into cover behind the bus.
Tapping his short range comms to platoon level, signalled the legionaries in the office block on the left.
“We are in the killzone, repeat, we are in. Draw in the hunter”.
Panting for breath he looked at the wreckage of the street he had just come down. The gigantic frame of a scorpion walker rounded the corner and turned to face him, firing bursts of huge calibre death in every direction.
>>
>>49268760
“Roger that Scout 1, we see him. Stay down sur” responded Sargent Heath. Rather him down there than me, he thought.
Each footstep of the PHR construct rattled the windows and shook the walls like an earthquake. Looking into the nervous faces of his legionaries, Heath gave it to them short and sharp.
“I Ain’t got no speech. It’s one big ugly beast, but it’s in the goddamned way, and that dog just ain’t gonna hunt. It’s dead, just don’t know it yet. Phoenix missiles up front.”
As one man, the UCM troopers stood to the windows, looking down at the white metal of the Hades walker.
“Aim for the head to kill the pilot. Give it to him boys!” he roared, kicking out the window-pane and firing on full automatic. His troops poured round after round into the forward segment of the scorpion. Gunfire burst harmlessly against the armoured shell like raindrops, but the missiles found their mark. Smoking trails arced one after another towards the sensor dome, ripping chunks from the beast and scrapping the oversized mandible miniguns.
The thing screeched and shivered like some ancient leviathan. Missile after missile slammed into it. With each impact its body shuddered closer to street level. The massive tail-gun slashed left and right looking for targets but could not elevate to the fourth floor to retaliate.
A final shot skewered straight through the body like a hunting spear, exploding into the street below.
The Hades finally came to rest, slumped against the still burning building where it had sent the scout vehicle moments earlier. Wild cheers erupted from the legionaries.
Hatches on the thing’s back sprang open and black and white smoke began to leak out.
>>
>>49268786
Vinnig’s voice pinged in Heath’s ear.
“Scout one, can you confirm kill?”
“Well sur, it’s either dead or it got real sleepy” came the response over the radio.
“Intelligence suggested it would take more to put it down, hence the trap. Heath, get down there and confirm kill. If the pilot isn’t dead, the walker isn’t dead”
“Roger that sur” fired back Heath, rolling his eyes.
“Ok boys, squads 2 through 5 stay here. First squad, follow me. The elite of our military is all jumpy until we go flush the nasty bug away”
Heath was followed by laughter as he and first squad abseiled out through the smashed glass towards the prone walker. They were half way down as the billowing smoke clouds from the machine reached the fourth floor and seemed to curl in through the open windows.

From his cover on the street Vinnig assessed his men. He was the furthest back, with his four remaining men scattered behind cover towards a monorail station at the end of the street. Only four left of the fifteen he’d started the drop with. Poor odds, but they had cost the enemy more than ten times their number.
“Well done squad. Way point at the station for evac. I’ll stay here to confirm then meet you in ten.”
“What about the package sir?” said corporal Sheedy, the weapons specialist.
“Leave it Sheedy. Once we secure the city we can recover lost supplies. Time is more of a fact-”
He was interrupted by screams over the radio.
The first thing Heath noticed was the rain. A large, wet droplet hit his face and ran down his chin. Then he realised that the laughter from above had turned to screams.
Looking up he saw men tumbling out of the windows, caught in great plumes of black smog that had come from the Hades. Each man was scrabbling at his face, his chest – flailing as he fell as if caught in a pack of angry wasps. It was voracious, catching anyone who fell and turning them into red vapours and thin rain before they even reached the first floor.
Heath gaped, open mouthed. Then the smog hit the static ropes, eating into them and sending first squad falling the last 15 metres to the ground. Heath slammed into the pavement, and felt bones snap. Blood flowed into his mouth. He’d bitten through his tongue. He rolled over and wretched up, wiping away the residue with the back of his glove. Pain throbbed and vibrated through his body and he stood up slowly, trying to make sense of his surroundings.
First squad was dying all around him. To his right three men were dead from the fall. To his left others were writhing in the black smog. This close it looked like they were covered in tiny black ants, stripping and flensing them to the bone. But Heath’s world was just the throbbing, grinding and pain. Too late he realised it wasn’t in his head.
>>
>>49268845
The Hades was moving. Back on its six legs, it too was wrapped in smoke trails, but white instead of black. Wherever the smoke touched battle-damage re-grew, missile impacts healed and buckled armour smoothed out. Only the mandible guns stayed broken, twisted out of all use, though this didn’t reduce the PHR behemoth’s killing power. Heath was sure that it looked at him – like a bored cat looks at a broken mouse – right before a gigantic front foot descended to grind him into the roadway.
The praetorian Lieutenant could only watch the devastation. There was no point in using the comms – it was clear there was no-one left to radio.
Vinnig realised it had been toying with them. Playing dead then attacking. It hadn’t even fired its tail gun; it hadn’t needed to. After taking out an armoured column the infantry were just a distraction. He narrowed his eyes.
“Sheedy, take the rest of the squad and evac. I’ll deal with this.”
“Sir, the proximity may-”
“No more games. This ends. It ends. You have your orders”
Sheedy hesitated, before saluting.
“Yes sir. An honour, as always... On me!”

ith that he and the other Praetorians doubled timed towards the station, leaving Vinnig to face the beast as it advanced. The sting folded down onto its back as it came forward, and the mini guns were still beyond use.
It wants to step on us like cockroaches, he released. Squash us like ants. It’s enjoying the game.
So, it likes games does it? He though. Let’s try a new one!
Vinnig stood up, and un-hooked his flak jacket. Placing his SMG on the street, he took off his helmet, smoothed down his fatigues, stuck both hands in his pockets and sauntered out of cover towards the Scorpion walker.
With each casual step he spoke in an even tone, sure the oncoming construct and its pilot could hear him.
“I’ve never had that much hate for you. I thought one day we’d resolve our differences and retake the cradle worlds as brothers.” It continued to advance on him, intent on crushing him to paste.
Vinnig appeared unconcerned.
“Post human, pre human. We’re all human”
It was almost on him now.
“But you really are different. Un-human. Abhorrent.”
Towering above him, it slowed to raise the blood-slick foot that had ended Heath.
“Let me remind you of your humanity” he said, pulling his hands from his pockets to reveal two remote detonators. The Hades try to re-adjust, suddenly fearing the trap it was caught in.
“Compliments of the UCM” said Vinnig, pressing the detonators.
The bottom floors of the two buildings behind Vinnig imploded, precisely cutting supports and stanchions. Thousands of tons of office block fell right on top of the reeling beast and Preatorian lieutenant , who smiled all the way down.

Hawk isn't Gee Dubs.

It is more likely Feral starts looted stuff. And Allied starts getting repurposed UCM and old Earth Stuff.

Resistance forces get transported on mass by UCM or PHR for different purpose. UCM gets spread thin or on bogged down on worlds, resistance forces remain or become main spearhead for reconquest on their own planet.

PHR forces open warfare on the Shaltari worlds with UCM and Scourge doing so for their own goals.
