I kind of want to build a deck around one of the vanilla commanders from the Legends set for fun. There any interesting builds that don't actually need a commander at all to do fun shit?

How would I go about building a non-zombie tribal grimgrin? While I have enough zombies to maybe make it worth my while, I don't have a lot of the more expensive staples. In general I was thinking card draw and removal.dek with sneaky Lazav, Geth, Velka, and Havengul Lich.

But on a more reasonable note, Karlov works a lot better than Ayli for using the Aetherflux Reservoir since it's more lifegain triggers per turn, and if you're already using Extort that's doubling the amount of triggers from just the spells being played. Doesn't mean you shouldn't run Ayli in Karlov too.

It seems like that at first, but unless you're playing with same kind of new people, you're gonna run over by the most casual decks ever made.
EDH is not that kind of format, that you're using leftover cards you have, if you want to win or at least give your opponents some challenge, afterall, EDH is pretty competitive format, even though it's a casual format.
It really depends your deckbuilding skills and what did you get in the draft, but keep in mind that since EDH is a singleton format with 100 cards, the deckbuilding is entirely different from standard, modern or draft.

There was one funny instance where one player played urborg, then I put down a crypt ghast (in a rakdos deck) and our mizzix player cloned my crypt ghast. The guy who played urborg didn't get any effect out of it for the whole game while we had a bit of a back and forth with recurring and re-cloning crypt ghast when it got destroyed.

I just realised that you can't do last ditched stuff with this card... If you're at exactly 50 and you're about to get killed, paying 50 life would kill you and the 50 damage trigger would be cancelled out because you die. I know it's a very very specific circumstance, but I'm sad now.

Most of the vehicles are pretty shit in EDH so far. There's a few interesting dwarves though, and when I looked through them, quite a number of them seemed to be dealing with land destruction.

I used the ole Voltaic Construct with Gilded Lotus for infinite mana and had shit like Dimensional Breech to help pave the way. The deck was fun, and frankly, I don't remember why I took it apart. The 50 life investment on your behalf is extremely risky in multiplayer. It can also be Stifled or the damage prevented, causing you to lose the life for no benefit. You basically need infinite life to kill off a table, and, if you do, something like Vizkopa Guildmage is usually an easier wincon.

I dunno if you guys have ever played against a Door to Nothingness EDH but that shit is fucking gay. They play their door, then they sit on it telling people what to do, and if anyone disobeys they get killed. Can it work?

I want to make a deck that basically thrives on cycling 0-2 mana artifacts and making a bunch of mana with krark-clan ironworks, also a Myr/Thopter subtheme

Vedalken archmage, baubles, memnites, ornithopters

Flickering ward

Many recurring small enchantments, pillowfort, removal, etc. As long as you can protect daxos, you have an amazing mana sink. I'm only running 3 creatures (not including daxos) in the deck, and 2 of them are enchantment creatures. In a 4 player match especially, unless someone can find a way to remove daxos before he digs in like a tick, shit escalates real quick.

Can you expand on that? Are you saying the deck is just too easy to fizzle with? Like you cycle a bunch of artifacts but never come up with the winning cards?

My idea was to mainly use the eggs combo as a way to draw my library and then I'll win with one of various artifact combos like sharuum + sculpting steel + disciple of the vault

First I went full eggs, so 0 or 1 mana artifacts, for the draw and played things like the eggman, salvaging station(so good) and second sunrise. The problem is that I would actually never a wincon. Then I went with a slightly myr tribal, but that's really shittybut cute!
