So I recently started X-Wing, and picked up the Millennium Falcon expansion. Is the generic guy supposed to have 1 fewer attack, 2 fewer hull, and 1 fewer shield compared to Han, Chewy, and Lando? I don't know of any other ship that does this (Boba Fett flies the same Firespray as the generic bounty hunter).

Yes, the Outer Rim Smuggler is supposed to have less stats. He's cheaper because of it, too. Chewie, Lando, and Han are all supposed to represent flying the Millenium Falcon, while Outer Rin Smuggler is supposed to represent just a generic YT-1300.

Quick question about the rpg (FFG)
When you buy into a new spec, do you also get the career? The wording in the core is super vague about that.

Follow up question, could you get a signature ability from said second spec?

Two things I would say.

One, for really light vehicles (speeders, for instance), you may get better results by firing at the pilot, rather than the vehicle.

Second, weapons with the Breach quality ignore a point of Armour for each rank of Breach, enabling them to easily inflict damage. Usually, the weapons with Breach also have high damage (for instance, the Shaped Thermal Grenade in one of the screenshots above, could do enough damage to one-shot almost all the vehicles shown above on a good hit).

An AT-PT for example has the personal equivalent of 30 soak and 60 wounds. The grenade's Breach 2 will go through most of the soak, but the remaining 10 will negate a lot of damage. let's say you had a good roll and got 6 Successes, now the AT-PT is at 44 wounds and probably has a crit. Hopefully you can survive long enough to do that 3 or 4 more times.

Convert personal weapons into vehicle weapons. Here's some house rules I cooked up for my last campaign, though they were never used unfortunately.

Personal scale weapons vs vehicles.
If a personal weapons is used to attack a vehicle scale enemy, change the weapons damage to (damage + pierce) rounded down or, if the weapon has the breach quality, damage rounded normally. This also effects the damage from the blast quality, though it does not benefit from the pierce or breach qualities if the weapon does have it.

The Range of the weapon changes to close, no matter the original range of the weapon.

The only qualities that a personal scale weapon retains are:

>Prepare
>Blast
>Breach
>Slow Firing
>Limited Ammo
>Cumbersome
>Unwieldy
>Auto-Fire
>Linked

For example, a heavy blaster rifle (Damage 10, Crit 3, Range Long, Cumbersome 3, Auto-Fire) becomes (Damage ,1 Crit 3, Range Close, Cumbersome 3, Auto-Fire) whilst a basic lightsaber (Damage 6, Crit 2, Range Engaged, Breach 1, Sunder) becomes (Damage 1, Crit 2, Range Close, Breach 1)
>>
>>49168931
It's really less of "take down all of its HP" and more "score crits on the thing", really.

As long as you can get through its armor, you can cause critical hits to it. So you have to get used to the idea of knocking out modules.

If that doesn't sound so good and well, though, you can always do >>49169006. It's a great workaround.
>>
>>49168931
That's correct. A common house rule is to change the 10:1 ratio to be a 5:1 ratio, to make the various man portable anti-vehicle weapons more usable.

So how were those helicopter sabers supposed to work anyways?

They weren't rotating fast enough to generate lift. So in game it's something like a maneuver to get the blades spinning over your head, then a successful force move (or enhance?) power action to make the character float away like a Saturday morning cartoon villain?

Oh and about how many force pips would you need for all that?

Yeah, that's how it works. Seems that the system heavily favors mobility, firepower, or mission kills rather than catastrophic kills when dealing with people vs. vehicles

Eventually, stacking criticals are gonna kill the damn thing, if the crew isn't strained to death, burning from fires, or hasn't bailed out after getting knocked out of the fight.

See, I have an idea about that.

Now, the thing with the TIE is that it's a light, super-maneuverable fighter that a REALLY good pilot can push to the brink, but a middling one will die in.

Now, consider that the Jedi, the ones with the highest kill-ratios in the Clone Wars, flew in light fighters like that...Someone didn't check the factors between the statistics.

It's basically the Mitsubishi Zero. It most certainly wasn't garbage for its time. It was a great fighter that was superior to pretty much everything the Rebellion had early in the war. There is a lot of truth in that. The Zero started falling out of favor within years. Even the vaunted Tiger 1 started having problems with opposing tanks by 1944. For facing Z-95, Y-Wings, and whatever early shit they were up against, the Tie Fighter works great. X-Wings and A-Wings began to tip that balance, and are what made the Tie Fighter begin it's slide to obsolete.

I've had a lot of fun and success with S&V Kath and this loadout:
PTL
Engine Upgrade
K4 Security Droid

I read about another build for her that comes out to the same cost and thought it sounded interesting.

Veteran Instinct
Dengar
Glitterstim
Engine Upgrade

I lose the ability to target lock and focus in the same turn. But with so many people using named pilots Dengar makes up for the target lock. If I burn an action boosting I can pop glitterstim in a tight spot

It's easy, it's just practice. Grab some of the Micromachines blind bag ships to practice on. Hit them with a spray undercoat, look at some painting tutorials and have fun with it. Painting is easy, just look at some techniques online and you'll be surprised with the results.

>>49186224

Love the HWK in Black Sun colours. I'm going for a coordinated look amongst my guys - all Black Sun all the time, but the ragtag pirate band is a rad look too.

>>49186439

Astromechs are actually great fun to paint. They take about two minutes to do because they're tiny. It's literally five steps.

>Block out the body colour
>Block out the head colour
>Throw on some stark hilights to the body so that it stands out
>Draw six vertical lines around the head to look like panel lines
>Dot for an eye

They're great fun, bring a lot of personality to the ship and are a good way to introduce a contrasting colour to a paint scheme so that you can liven things up a bit.

Any tips on putting together more coherent X-wing lists? So far I've pretty much just been mashing in cool ships and upgrades until I'm out of points. I have a decent idea how to pick and match pilots with upgrades, but not how to build any sort of symmetry between the ships.

Pick a pilot you like, add ships to complement her, add ships to cover your weaknesses.

I've done a large Warhammer army quite badly, but now when I'm looking at a small amount of figures I've started really challenging myself to pull them off properly and actually make something I can be proud of.

It helps when I'm doing some dumb unreasonable freehand to tell myself I only need to do it once, like with the N'Dru Suhlak Headhunter
>>
>>49187725

That's the thing though! X-Wing ships really lend themselves to broad strokes and bold schemes. I'm really digging the purple on that and I bet it looks rad under the "Three foot test" (Hold your figure at arm's length and look at how excellent your painting suddenly looks. It's the system I use for all of mine - I'm going to be looking at them from that distance 90% of the time, so if they look good from there I'm happy!)

Droid is treated as a "species" for character creation.

You start with 1 in each characteristic, but you get 175 xp to spend. If you level up all your characteristics to 2, that only leaves you with 55 to further raise them or take talents/skills. Because of this, droids work best as specialists.

Additionally, droids get 3 extra skill ranks: 2 in skills from their career and 1 in a skill from their starting specialization. Droids also get Enduring 1 (+1 soak) and have the standard traits you would expect a droid to have (don't need to eat, breathe, drink, etc.; immune to metabolic hazards, can't be healed but can be repaired).

I think it's the quad lasers of the X-wings what gave them such better odds against TIE's than previous starfighters. They're like the SW equivalent of a CIWS, exactly the perfect counter for a high-speed, low durability target.

Zorba the Hutt's Revenge.jpg
296KB, 780x1135px
Okay. So. The madness spiral continues with Zorba the Hutt's Revenge.

Han Solo has a floating Sky House on Bespin that he wants to turn into a swingin' bachelor pad (featuring, I kid you not, the Most Comfortable Chair Ever Designed, which is basically Kang's floating bean bag chair) and throws a housewarming party. Luke and Ken go to Tatooine to a Jawa “Droidfest” and purchase KT-18, a female housekeeping droid with an eager personality and a pearly-white finish that is totally not a sex droid, honest. She probably is

Also on Tatooine, Jabba's father, Zorba the Hutt, arrives in the Zorba Express and learns of his son's death. He acquires Jabba's will and learns that Princess Leia did the deed, so he puts a bounty on her head and travels to Bespin to collect the Cloud City Casino, which Jabba owned.

Of course the Empire is also on Bespin, mining Tibanna gas on a factory barge floating on the Rethin Sea, a liquid metal substance making up Bespin's core, because fuck it why not. Anyway, the Empire's mining operation produces a brown haze that gets called Braze that I guess pollutes the air, but mostly obscures the scenic views of Bespin because [Heavy-Handed Environmental Message]

Zorba ends up winning Bespin from Lando by cheating at Sabacc and the now-pizza faced Trioculus captures Leia hoping to make her his waifu. After some brief negotiations fail spectacularly, Zorba attacks and captures Trioculus, and then freezes him in carbonite. The Imperial mining facility is destroyed, and Ken gets away with stealing a cloud car and going for a joyride because he's an annoying goddamn Mary Sue and suffers no consequences for getting himself into trouble.

Trioculus continues to be a spectacular failure, getting his ass frozen in carbonite by Jabba's crazy dreadlock-wearing dad. Speaking of Zorba, he's actually a great character, or would be, in a better series. He's every inch a Hutt and a scheming, cheating bastard flying around the galaxy in a wobbly rust bucket with a Barabel bounty hunter and gives no fucks about anything except getting revenge. He's a hoot.

The rest is just insanity, though it IS better than the Lost City of the Jedi. Ken in particular becomes more annoying here, since he keeps coming along on adventures he has no business being on.

You damn well better do an Imperial version of Pixy with the TIE/D if you do.
>>
>>49196969
Because it's PS 5, and it can only straight and bank to clear stress. I would run PTL if they could evade, but they can't.
>>
>>49196928
Fenn Rau is pretty good at getting into range- the problem is surviving past that. I would use a Manaroo build to support him, rather than the Kihraxthxbye.

Something like this, which can provide him with multiple focus tokens, so he can use his actions to barrel roll or boost and take the target lock needed for the torpedoes. It also provides a ps 1 blocker/bugzapper for all those pesky aces that refuse to go where you want.

>tfw Dark Empire's incredibly silly Darth Luke plot never gave us a Wedge/Luke dogfight
>>
>>49197708
I...I can't call it. Wedge is the stronger pilot, but Luke has an insane grasp of force fuckery.
>>
>>49197708
I can't even imagine the abject insanity of that fight. I'd call it as a tie, myself. Probably wedge would do more damage to evil Luke's ship than he would take, but would probably break off before it's to the end, for tactical reasons.

Think that at the top of their games that they could take on an entire wing of TIEs, just the two of them?
>>
>>49197966
Easy. Wedge is the best of the best of the best, and Luke (at his peak) has Force fuckery to back his own considerable skill.
>>
>>49197160
>>49197411
Well, if you -need- green turns to make use of PTL in a Khiraxz, quite frankly you're doing it wrong. Medium range is a happy place to be in Khiraxz, just like an X-Wing. You get yourself into a good firing position and hammer down for a turn or two until you see the reversal coming and hold off on the stress. Take it easy with the throttle, roll+lock for position or lock+focus to maximize the hits, and help a little for defense if the attack roll is good. Fenn's going to be up in people's grills laying down the business, keep the backup dancers in the back doing their thing.

I just find Predator to be really meh for 3 points worth of EPT on a ship that can take a target lock.
>>
>>49198176
Predator requires no extra actions, however. And provide a reroll even if you're burning a Target Lock to fire a missile (or two).

Predator works for me. But personally, I prefer cheaper EPTs for Kihraxz. If I need action economy, they work best with mindlinks for focus all around. They're not a ship that needs multiple actions, and if you DO need multiple actions, then they're not a ship that sheds stress easily.
>>
>>49197966
Assuming equal craft (X-wings) and an empty playing field in that time period, I would say it's either a mutual kill or a very narrow Luke victory. R2-D2 is just too good compared to Gate.

>Think that at the top of their games that they could take on an entire wing of TIEs, just the two of them?
Depends on what you mean by take on. Bounce and send crying home with a couple squadrons gone? Easily. Straight up go 36-1 and kill them all? Also probably a yes, but very narrowly. All the TIEs would go down, but one of them would probably either have their fighter crippled or have to punch out, and the other would be badly damaged
>>
>>49198261
We're talking dark empire, so I think the crucial question is if wedge can exploit Luke's complete emotional fuckshow. If he can and stays cool, I'd put it narrowly for wedge, otherwise I'd concur with you
>>

So, /swg/, what's your dream car?
>>
>>49198452
It would also depend on the TIEs and the pilots. The entire 181st in Defenders? Fuck no. Luke and Wedge take one look at that fight, fire off their torps, dump their flares, and run. Rank-and-file TIE/LNs? That's the sort of massacre that becomes an Ace Combat Zero interview tape.

Core rules are pretty much the same in every iteration, just go with the flavor you want and keep the errata handy.
>>
>>49200024
It's not that they have more updated rules, it's just that each one focuses on a different part of Star Wars. Edge of the Empire is what you want for smugglers and bounty hunters, Age of Rebellion is for military adventures and guerrilla warfare shenanigans, and Force and Destiny is for the saber-swingers. Pick whichever one is more suitable for your campaign.

They are also designed to be overlapping and interchangeable- characters from one will work in the others, without needing any real adjustment. What sets them apart (aside from the focus) is the motivational mechanic- EotE has Obligation, AoR has Duty, and FaD has Morality.
>>
>>49200024

>you should immediately turn to the dark side and become a NPC for using it
Not sure if you mean by the rules (because they are harsh to the point of making darkside powers worthless, but not that harsh), or by the fluff, where opinions seem to be divided on whether any power is truly damning on its own.

Regardless, we're playing a darkside campaign, and since darksiders are completely shut off from using light side force powers (which is 100% not worth it, since most darkside powers are shit), I need a way to heal people, or at least myself, that isn't Dark Transfer, because Dark Transfer is worthless.

Friend has one, its Miami Vice as fuck... but the killer is the reliability.
I have a running tally in my head of repairs, maintenance costs and other stuff he's done over the last 10 years and its, 'disturbing' to say the least. The little 308's and 328's are a bit gentler on the wallet, plus you get to grow a moustache and no one thinks badly of it.
>>

I don't think that they DOWNED them, but the rogues had basically reacted as if they were doomed until those Defenders showed up.
>>

By that measure then I'd say one wing would definitely handle Wedge, Luke, and Poe.

Though to be fair, unless there's a planet or an Interdictor nearby they'd probably just refuse the odds and leave.

She's really more of a self contained Kyle Katarn. Actually, with this card the Moldy Crow title is pretty much dead in the water except for Scum builds that might want it.

>Finn
>5 points
>Firing Arc restrictions only as well
>Primaries too

The fuck. Did they forget that Palpatine is Imperial only or something? I can't pair this up with Chimps, the only thing the extra blank evade dice works with is Lone Wolf (and Rey). Predator and TL's might give me a result, I guess but this is basically "You get an extra attack dice if you spend a target lock".
No way should this be 5 points. It's a 4 point upgrade no matter how you look at it.

>Chewie NOT being Once Per Round

Hilarious.

>Han's ability let's him deploy from wherever

I think the idea here was to snipe the Palp Shuttle early by basically putting attack dice on it from the start of the game and forcing your opponent to either deal with Han or the oncoming enemies before they lose The Senate.
>>
>>49203830
Moldy Crow on Katarn Pilot will always be a thing. Rey can only service herself.
>>
>>49203903

It's basically the same thing for a point less. Yes, with that extra point you can put in Recon Spec and save 2 focuses a turn but sometimes you will need that extra point.

Actually, you know who really benefits from this? Nora in the Arc-170. Just stack focus tokens for a few turns on Rey and you've got probably the cheapest way to set your combo up.

I think the key difference here, is Katarn is a battery of Focus you can assign to other ships as needed. Rey (crew) is a battery of focus only applicable to the ship she's on (barring a combo).
>>
>>49204328

Uh, I wasn't saying that Rey replaces Kyle (Pilot) I'm saying it replaces the Moldy Crow title. The one that lets you retain focus tokens.

The crew card that replaces Kyle (Pilot) was last weeks Jyn Erso.
>>
>>49204372
I still respectably disagree. Rey lets you bank a left over focus, the Moldy Crow doesn't eat a crew slot. So yeah it's 1 point less for Rey, but Rey (in the HWK) doesn't allow for a Tactician, or Nien Numb, or hilariously Sabine. Sometimes, like with Poe's PS 9, the more expensive option costs that much specifically to keep another upgrade open.
>>
>>49202993
Finn is just, why. He's probably only actually good on Rey, and that's because she can actually use his defensive dice.

Rey crew is awesome. Also allows you to protect your focus from Palob.

Chewie not being once per round is bonkers. He will be fantastic in epic running behind a Z-swarm.

Han is great. He completely fucks with both Palp aces and Dengaroo. Only question is what else to take with him, you won't have many points. LW is obviously an autoinclude.

Hopefully we get the T-70 article next Monday.
>>
>>49204596
>Finn is just, why.
Finn is decptively useful. He adds an additional blank result to your dice, which is the subject to any modification or reroll. Whether that be with Target Locks, or (eventual) pairing with Weapons Guidance or Sensor Cluster tech. Imagine putting him on a B-Wing with FCS, or who has the inpunity to Target Lock whenever... Like Farlander with Adv Sensors and Stay on Target. Take a Lock action, change maneuver for a stress, fire with 3 dice (4 at R1) adding a blank, use Target Lock, and stress-focus. It's effectively a HLC primary, for cheaper.

The rest I completely agree with. Han is a total gambit, and fits the character (old and new) stupidly well. The main problem I see with him, is his whole shtick will be that deployment and PS 9. After that, he's not doing much more than being a PS 9 Falcon with whatever you loaded him up with.

No it's not a HLC. One of the main points of HLC is removing the extra die at range 3.

Further unlike a HLC die which can be rolled twice or be a focus the Finn die has less of a chance of being a hit.

He's priced out of being on anything but Rey.

Yes he will no doubt be alright once we get a Rebel ship with tech and crew. Guessing that's going to be a while though, unless there's a card that gives the slot in the expansion.

Honestly he should have just added a focus result. Then he's be really damn useful, but they had to go for the synergy with Rey. Rebels don't deal well with blanks.

Still though:

So are you just revving up to shitpost after Rouge One hits or is it going to be a practice run for next year when VIII arrives?

>No it's not a HLC. One of the main points of HLC is removing the extra die at range 3.

That's an effect of secondary weapons, and was already implied when I said Primary. Also, HLCs can't fire at Range 1. Keyan with a Lock and Stress, with Finn riding shotgun, will produce a 4-die primary + blank added to the roll.

>Further unlike a HLC die which can be rolled twice or be a focus the Finn die has less of a chance of being a hit.

And unlike HLC dice, none of your initial crit results get changed to a hit. It's similar in effect of having a 4-dice result at the end of your first roll (R1 is 5 dice). The difference is you are guaranteed to have a blank in that mix, and you're not downgrading crits. Initially his use will be a bit limited unless you have blank modification or are target locking. But I see potential with it.

Also

>Synergises ridiculously well with Palpatine.

>The main problem I see with him, is his whole shtick will be that deployment and PS 9. After that, he's not doing much more than being a PS 9 Falcon with whatever you loaded him up with.

Yes, but the whole point of him is: He's a Ps9 Falcon EXACTLY where you want him to be, getting stuck into combat on turn 1. There are no safe spots on the board anymore with him. You can't have things hang back and load up Gonk with him on the board, you can't take a turn to set up combo's anymore, you can't have the Palp shuttle or Manaroo hang-back. You HAVE to deal with him first, and he's in a Falcon, one of, if not THE the tankiest ship in the game.
So odds are reasonable that the rest of his squadron is going to roll into you before you've managed to deal with him.
Basically, Han Solo turns every match into an uncivilised brawl from the start. Which is great.

Oh well, roll on next week for the T-70 previews I guess. I guess Hotshot Copilot wont get spoilt until release then? Well, if it's like Slicer Tools that bodes well for it.

I like most of what I've seen in Rogue One. TFA just managed to paint all the numbers and still miss the true meaning of ChristmasHogswatchStar Wars somehow.

Rey pilot and crew, and nuHan and nuChewie are great, faggot. Cry more.

The real meaning of Hogswatch is that damn pig's gotta die.

nuHan and nuChewie aren't TFA characters, however.

The R3 limitation is the kicker there. It is quite possible to setup a Palp Ace or Manaroo build, with smaller ships "fortressing" that R3 further back. Plus, Gonk is always most useful with Experimental Interface.

Now, the beauty of nuHan, is that kind of deployment mind-game is EXACTLY what you want out of him. If Palpmobile is backed into a corner and all the aces set up in a protective ring, then you're already getting the opponent to do precisely what you want them to do (bunch up and prep for a turn-1 Falcon fight).

You see, you're thinking Finn is like the HLC, you SHOULD be comparing it to Expose and Opportunist. Two cards that give you an extra attack dice, but have downsides, and both of which are 4 points.
Because that's what Finns doing, he's giving an extra attack dice that you NEED to roll.

>Expose
+ Get an extra primary attack dice
- It's an action to turn on
- Lose a Green Dice when defending
4pts

>Opportunist
+Get an extra attack dice (primaries OR secondaries)
- Target must have no Focus or Evade tokens
- You take a stress when you use it
4pts

>Finn
+Gain an extra dice
- You have to spend a target lock or similar rr ability just to roll it (admittedly not JUST that)
-Is firing arc only
-/+ Is crew slot, not EPT
5 points???

It being a Crew restricts where you can put it, and puts it in contention with a lot of other really useful choices, but to be fair the same would be equally true if this ability were on an EPT.

Finn really should be 4 points. 4 points is still pretty prohibitive, 5 is Gunner tier, and he's not that good, and people aren't picking Gunner already because of his cost. I can't think of a single 5 point upgrade that sees use right now. NOTHING that's 5 points is used. Hell the only upgrades beyond 4pts that are being used are HLC's and Palpatine.

Playing the Fantasy Flight RPG soon. My gf wants to use two pistols, Jango style. Anybody know which spec to go into for this?

I've been running dice this morning with Finn to see how good he is on a Ghost with a TL.

He has the real potential to fuck up a ship, but it isn't every time, and he makes the ghost cost a boatload of points. 42 of them baseline. 47 if you want gunner, which you almost certainly do.

Also the serious problem with your Keyan build is that he costs 35 on a B-wing, without an EPT. High cost B-wings have literally never been worth it. Ever. At any point in the game's history. They die way too fast, and that was before Torp Scouts were a thing.

The real problem with Finn is getting a way to use that extra blank green die. That's where the real power of the card is, and if you are not using it it's wasted points. So far only Rey and maybe other LW ships can do anything with it. He should make Rey crazy survivable with C-3P0 though.

I'm trying to find a build where he's good on an ARC, again because of the buff to defense.

>>49205324
That's mostly because FFG sucks at making high-cost high-reward cards that aren't Palpatine.

Even HLC sees no use where I am anymore except on Dash.

Thank god all the other new Rebel crew that's coming has been cheap so far, they will actually see use.

>main characters in TFA
>not TFA characters
Nice logic there.

Also, example of good (by your half-assed definition) of "TFA characters" who are good in X-Wing:
-Rey pilot
-Poe (both versions)
-BB-8
-Ello Asty
-And Kylo Ren with his ability to custom pick crits.

The only questionable one is Finn, which shows some potential as soon as a crew+tech ship is released.

Makes me wonder if nuHan starts dominating the meta if PalpShuttle + Soontir with three academy pilots would be decent. Academies can castle and provide extra guns. Either way if the opponent shoots at the academy pilots they aren't shooting at Palp or Soontir and if they don't they get to keep firing in a little formation. Probably not worth though.
>>

Rey with Finn and Kanan and the title can do all kinds of crazy shennanigans.

>High cost B-wings have literally never been worth it. Ever. At any point in the game's history.
Ten Numb with Mangler and Vet Instincts. 36pts of Fel can go fuck himself with an undodgeable crit. It's not common, but it has shown up in top 16s as a way to counter Palp Aces with stealth device, or even just the Baron himself.

Nera Dantel has also seen more play lately, due to her turret torps, and she regularly comes in at the mid 30's mark. And the standard Keyan build is 34, with 37 being the mark for Keyan + Jan Ors for the evades.

Pricey B-Wings are rare, and not common at the tournament level. But they're certaibly worth it, provided you local meta isn't all torp-scouts, TLT Y-Wings, and Ubermensch Palp + his 3 random best friends.
