your welcome, enjoy. I have been really pushing lately for more heavy gear stuff to be talked about on /tg/ especially since we now have the new kickstarter plastics and the rpg kicking around. It is a good game with a good setting, and has 20 years behind it, even if it has been a third string game behind the other big ones,
>>
FUCK, kickstarter 2nd wave shipement WHEN!
>>
Did you guys see the assembly guide DP9 put out for the new plastics? Actually pretty cool, and has tips for pinning and magnetizing Caprice mounts.

I've been running through the rules again getting ready to demo. Only things I'm having trouble with is Electronic Warfare and I can't find anything on what Link does.
>>
>>49167425
probably next month to be honest.
>>
>>49167671
No do you have screenshots or a pdf of it? I would like to see.

>>49170111
Oh that is really neat, a lot of people have been waiting and like to see what the spru looks like so thank you for that.
>>
>>49172807
No problem, glad to help!

I'm just hoping with the plastics it'll get people interested. The plastic starters are pretty solid deals(except the CEF in my opinion).
>>
>>49173297
Yea that is what you said last thread, but that is alright, who needs those no good dirty earthers.

I do find it funny though basically it is russia that took over the earth.
>>
>>49173715
The tabks are fine, aside from being hollow on the bottom, but the Frames have some detail issues.

Granted the only things from the CEF stuff I wanted were the tanks, so not a huge loss.

I like to think less "GLORIOUS MOTHER RUSSIA!" and more east Europe. Mostly because I hate that every game feels the need to cram Russians, or some approximation thereof, in. Also I like the idea of Earth being run by Polish folks.
>>
>>49176152
I wonder if they successfully removed kebab when they conquered the earth
>>
>>49176152
Moscow is literally gone in HG's Earth anyway, nuked to oblivion like half of Earth's major cities.
>>
>>49181627
it always seems like Earth is a pretty terrible place by the time a DP9 setting gets rolling.
>>
>>49165318
Hold the fucking phone, did someone really make a tv show about giant robot pilots? Is it any good?
>>
>>49182203
sort of, it went on for like 40 episodes but was a kids show through and through.
>>

Yeah, they do have a habit of that.

>>
>>49181911

So I forgot how cheesy this show was, I love it.
>>
>>49188994
Man I've tried rewatching it and I just can't. Same with Battletech. I get like two or three episodes in and I have to stop.
>>
>>49189692
Honestly the worst part is the guns which juust fire with no effect most of the time.
>>
>>49189692
>Man I've tried rewatching it and I just can't. Same with Battletech.

I take it you've seen VOTOMS already?
>>
>>49190057
Yeah, but not in a long while.

I think Heavy Gear lends itself well to a show or novels. It's got enough going on to offer plenty of complex characters and twists.

Hell; after I get my books off the ground I'd love to write Heavy Gear novels myself. Wrote one for NaNoWriMo some years back which will be the inspitation for my PRDF.
>>
>>49190893
A heavy gear novel may be interesting to read, but as far as I know that is not an avenue that DP9 has explored.

Which if you think about it is extremly funny, they basically have explored every option for heavy gear, board games, movies, video games, war games, RPGs, and a TV show. But can not find any novels.

My squad of Jagers, all built up. Biggest pain in the ass were a few tough spots to clean and getting weapons into hands properly.

From left to right: Brawler, Command, Striking and Stock.

The bazooka on my Striking isn't sitting flush on the shoulder, which made my initial pose for it not work. I also have a fresh thing of glue so it dries damn near instantly which made lining things up a bit tricky at points.

Otherwise these were a joy to assemble, which gives me hope for the rest of my models.

Next up is probably my Black Mambas or my Spitting Cobras.
>>
What book after the 3e players handbook should one read to get more information about the setting?
>>
>>49193414
Looking cool, probably the black mamba though because I hear it is one of your better gears.
>>
>>49193852
Last thread the 2e Life on Terra Nova and Technical Manual were recommended.
>>
>>49193877
Well I plan to build both, just debating what order to do them in. Granted with the Mambas I jave some more options simply due to having more models.

One of my Spitting Cobras is totally going to be a Junglemower Support. HRC and a field gun? Yes please.

Please help, /hgg/, I have no idea what I'm doing. Is this list shit? Did I make any mistakes?
Blitz July rulebook (think it's the latest?) Peace River Badlands Militia sub-force, for reference

Sorry about the format, the force record sheet pdf I have can't be filled in.
>>
>>49165555
How long has this been in development?

Is there any hope of getting a full release or should I stick with 2nd edition?
>>
>>49195215
Ummmm looks to be about a year, development really only kicked off last year for the 20th anniversary, Currently it is in its 2nd stage, but do not hold your breath as the RPG is not a real focus for anyone, the main designers are doing this as a side job, I believe they work for DP9 which is also trying to get out the new minis and finish off their latest beta.

In conclusion, it is being worked on. But maybe stick to 2nd ed for now.
>>
>>49195044
Looks good to me.
>>
>>49195044
Looks fine to me. I was going to say needs more firepower for fighting heavy stuff and then I noticed the Kodiak there.

How did you make that list? Just type it out, or did you find some sore of force builder for the new edition?
>>
Is that anon who bought into the RPG test around? Is there any new info from the super seekrit test pilot forum or is the game as dead as Arkrite's news feed?
>>
>>49195354
>>49195537
Cheers, anons

Yeah just typed it out in a plain text editor and exported to pdf. Straight up copy and pasted the unit stats from the rulebooks and then moved some stuff around, changed font size etc. to make it look okay.
A force builder would be fantastic but considering the small fanbase and rulebook still being in testing phase and prone to changes, doubt anyone'll make one.
>>
>>49195545
Anon here, the forum has some activity but it is slow. I am seeing at least a few posts by the test pilots every few days at the very least. The current thing going around is a couple of groups are running test games, and the vehicle construction rules are the biggest discussion going on right now.

So still pretty much just in the 2nd phase still.
>>
>>49195657
Well if I can shill enough for this game to get people into it. After the official release of the rules we can try to do a force builder.
>>
>>49195675
Right on, I'd help make it but I don't know how to any kind of programming. I discovered Heavy Gear because of the generals so yeah, shillins' good

Tactica question. Is it a bad idea to stack 3 whole actions on to a model like I did with the Kodiak? I kinda get the feeling that Duelists are more of a thing you do for the bad-ass factor more than anything anyway so it doesn't matter too much.

Also will the Spitz bikers be at all effective against armoured threats with their light shaped charges?
>>
>>49196027
Now still learning the game myself so by no means a vet, but I would treat your kodiak just like a death star unit, high point cost and high damage, but able to take out a lot of people if positioned right and supported.
>>
>>49195657
There was Gear Garage back in the old edition. Hopefully it gets updated for the new one.

Sadly I have zero programming skill. Maybe I'll try and make one for BattleScribe.
>>
>>49195659
Do the devs have any involvement at all or are the test pilots the only ones desperately trying to keep the game afloat?
>>
>>49197456
I do not really see anything from the Devs, however one of my first posts was complaining about lack of communication, one of the test pilots apparently talked to the Devs at GenCon and they said the next update will be out this month, and there should be more coming out soon as well.

I think JAson and Greg also work for DP9 and have been working on Heavy Gear blitz as well as helping get the kickstarter out the door.

Hopefully now that the Kickstarter stuff is starting to ship and blitz is on its way to being done we will see more updates.
>>
>>49197602
We've been told the next update would be "this month" or "next month" by people who have "talked to the devs." For the last 6 months.

I'll believe it when I see it.

>>
>>49198193
Where did you find that?
>>
>>49196027
3 actions on a single Gear can work if you can use it to lay down lots of fire. Not entirely sure how well, but you should be able to use plenty of options there.

As for the monowheels...I don't know. I imagine against light armor like light trooper Gears and some of the smaller tanks, maybe against stuff like FLAILs and Golems and whatnot they would do better.

>Catapracht
This was the beginning of the end.

BTW are DP9 forcing the new RPG to be in their current HG timeline? I think last thing I heard about new HG was the Dreadnought project about spacelifting landships to other planets or something. Not sure how they fly without TN's weird magnetic field though.
>>
>>49215781
Found a bigger pic of that new landship.
>>
>>49215781
No idea what the timeline is for the new RPG I will take a look to see if I can find mention of it, but landship wise they are shrinking down the size of the Landships and dividing them into parts so they can be built on another system.

They are trying to figure out how to make the landships work on other planets, but I honestly think it may just be a ton of hover tech into them due to their new smaller size.
>>
>>49165318
I used to make the previous string of HG Generals. Glad to see it's back for a bit.
Also glad to see JC is making a bit of a comeback.
>>
>>49215454
Peace River, Caprice and South here.

>>49215781
There's nothing wrong with the Catapracht. It's been around for a long time and was Peace River's alternative to having tanks.

As for the landship thing, I don't know. I think >>49215897 is right, though, that they're more just big hover ships than landships proper. Do we know if Dreadnoughts will be anything other than on Terra Nova?

>>49216032

>There's nothing wrong with the Catapracht. It's been around for a long time and was Peace River's alternative to having tanks.
Catapracht itself is fine, but even JBuckmaster is a little unhappy with how that turned into every faction having a Catapracht.

>Do we know if Dreadnoughts will be anything other than on Terra Nova?
If Robert's statement is still true. He said the Terranovans need to work on calibrating the grav units to work offworld.
>>

At least it's not Palladium.
>>
Anyone knows if the caprice mounts have a skeleton drawing like >>49165457 ??
>>
>>49221464
Looks like it doers not, you can find artwork of them though in t he art book 3, with some of the old t ype of mounts in 2. The old mounts looked like really squat Gears.
>>
>>49217389
Haven't even started assdmbly of my Caprice stuff. So far all I've built is an Iguana and my 4 Jagers. Not sure if I'll actually magnetize them, as thag would require me buying magnets and a pin drill.

>>49219803
Yeah, I think everyone getting Gearstriders was a bit silly. Thankfully I can mostly ignore them, and only focus on the Catapracht.

Well at least they aren't just going "landships work everywhere now, lol!" It certainly seems like they're at least trying to explain it in fluff.

>>49221464
Not that I ever saw. I was hoping that when they were doing army books they'd get to Caprice and we'd get some more art.
>>
>>49223230
I am hoping that we will get books for every faction. Or at the very least info on their units with a more in depth look at them. What they have been doing with some of the older books with a brief rundown of their capabilities, how they got developed, and how they are deployed is a pretty decent read. All within a few paragraphs as well.

>>49221139
DP9 has traditionally been just as bad as Palladium, and we've no reason to believe Arkrite will be any different either.
>>
>>49228958
So I am kind of new to the entire heavy gear stuff, what seems to be the problem with DP9?
>>
>>49228958
Not quite
DP9's incompetent. I liked HG:Blitz, but they didn't understand math at all (+1 modifiers to hit are better than all but humongous boosts to damage), and that Indirect Fire with MRPs are the most broken thing in the world, especially when cheaply linked...
Also when questioned, they're horribly defensive and rely on a white knight corps to cover up openly dumb actions.

Palladium though, are both incompetent AND criminal. They're downright open thieves. And require a desperate white knight corps to fellate their ability to be half a decade behind on a project.
>>
>>49230157
How are you finding the beta then? Did they fix some of those issues?
>>
>>49230157
So the only difference then is Palladium did illegal shit. Ok, so then DP9 is ALMOST as bad as Palladium.
>>
>IP once popular enough to have a video game, sequel, and a TV series.
>now struggles to even have its existence recognized

Life must be suffering for DP9.
>>
>>49231720
Could say almost the same thing about battletech, sure they did not drop as far as DP9 did, but it got hit extremly hard. I remember when /tg/ barely had any mention of battletech at all because it was all 40k. For a good long time it seemed like the only wargame was 40k
>>
>>49231821
People at least still recognize the Mechwarrior name today, if you mention Heavy Gear nowadays you're likely to get a "what's that?" or at best, "that game from the 90s?"
>>
>>49231905
True, DP9 dropped super far. Hopefuly though they will come around. While I dont agree with everything that has been decided or has been done.

Hopefully we will see a better future for the setting.
>>
>>49230157
DP9 is at least showing signs of improving. It's clear they want to attwmlt to turn things around.

I still think they need a dedicated PR person, but they're showing positive signs.

Having only delt with Palladium from the Robotech kickstarter I can very safely say that DP9 handled that WAY better.
>>
>>49233417
>DP9 is at least showing signs of improving. It's clear they want to attwmlt to turn things around.
I'll say, they swore up and down for YEARS that they'd never even think about doing plastic kits. Now they're gearing up to release plastics for everything.
>>
>>49233872
Which is good, and the plastics so far are pretty damn nice for a first attempt.

I'm hopeful for the next kickstarter, and hope they take input from the backers into account.
>>
>>49233936
>>49233872

Yea the plastics look really good, if we are really lucky we will see such an upturn that they do not need to make another kickstarter (I doubt it though.)
>>
>>49233999
Well the plan is to do a second KS to do Peace River and NuCoal, which I'm fine with personally. Hopefully they'll do well enough we get other stuff from the first four factions in plastic.

Still a little sad to not get my plastic Sidewinder.
>>
>>49234407
I do hope they do an army for Joetiheim and New Jerusalem, so we will have the three planets that were able to fight off earth be playable.
>>
>>49234604
Yeah, that'd be pretty sweet. I wonder what their tech would be like.

Now for a gameplay question. As I get ready to put together my other Iguana I'm thinking of making him a Chatterbox variant. I figure then he can spot for my Junglemower Support Cobra to bring the pain with his field gun. However: can a model forward observe for a model not in the same combat group?
>>
>>49234762
If I am reading this correctly, they must be close enough to the combat group commander, and he must have a coms that is not jammed.

The forward observer must be close enough to a commander with comms to send out the signale to be picked up by the other groups commander or person with comms.

This is just how I am reading it.
>>
>>49234908
Man, electronic warfare is still throwing me for a loop.

Also still can't find how linked works. Or what the different weapon categories mean.
>>
>>49235135
On page 219
[Link] Linked Weapon: Attacks with this weapon improve the attack skill rating of the active model by 1.

So a model with a 4+ gunnery is now a 3+ for that weapon it looks like

What do you mean by weapon categories? Like the difference between the LAC and MAC? Look for the L then go down the column to the weapon you are using to get it.

If that is not what you mean not sure what you mean by it.
>>
>>49235199
Ah sweet. I could never find it.

Weapon categories such as ballastic, missile, indirect and advanced.

I think I need to maybe not read the rules on my kindle since I can't search terms ahich might be making things harder than they need to be on me.
>>
>>49235566

>Well at least they aren't just going "landships work everywhere now, lol!" It certainly seems like they're at least trying to explain it in fluff.
Hopefully Robert's words are just a misstep and he didn't give anti-grav tech to everyone. He may have just meant that the mag tech works on other planets as well.

play badlands and mix and match?
>>
>>49239749
I like the fluff of the Scimitar gear strider, however they probably could have made one without being a gear strider.

NuCoal is sorta nice if you like infantry, they probably have some of the best infantry units in the game which I really like.

Here is a good picture for you lot.

>Gee, Green Gear. How 'come your arena handler lets you have *two* vibro-blades?
>>
>>49244101
Cause he is an extreme gear that does not play by the rules.
>>
>>49236595
Badlands, bro. Use basically whatever you want.
>>
>>49236595
Yea the badlands faction is pretty much has what you are wanting, well aside from the earth frames.

>Anti-Tank module is modeled after the TOW systems aboard LAV-ATs

Hell, and I thought the mech aesthetics and their IFV doctrinal role was fucking awesome in and of itself.
>>
>>49251612
CEF is cool for tanks. I don't care much for the Frame designs in general.

No idea what I'll do with mine since I'll probably never build the damn things.

So back to a rules thing here, I want to get everyone's opinion; the advantage of auto cannons is that they have burst to get you the extra die over say using rocket packs all the time. It really seemed like in the old edition there was no reason to not use rocket packs. Like they had the same ranges and dverything so why ever use an auto cannon? At least now with auto cannons you get extra dice in your pool.

Thoughts?
>>
>>49251829
Auto cannons are useful because you are able to potientially do more damage with that extra roll, as well as making it easier to hit. However Rocket packs are AOE so they have that advantage.

It is a case by case basis for me, sometimes that rocket pack is not so great when they have good cover.
>>
>>49252147
Yeah, that's my thought. The rockets are good against grouped up models, but shooting a single target I'd rather the extra die the auto cannon gives.

It just felt like last edition they were so similar except rockets hit harder which made shooting auto cannons at anything other than super close range silly.

Also, oddly, the Crossbow Grizzly doesn't seem to have link of its ATM.
>>
>>49252296
Huh your right, probably for a reason cause linked on those could suck really hard for people.
>>
>>49252296
At the very least you c an use the rocket pods as an indirect fire weapon so that helps get some use out of it

What books should I read if I want to get into the Heavy Gear universe?
>>
>>49253411
We get this question about once a thread, so it might be worth putting it in the OP.

Heavy Gear 3e PHB
2e Life on Terra Nova
2e Technical Manual

I don't have the book they're in. What is the fluff behind them?

>>49251829
>CEF is cool for tanks. I don't care much for the Frame designs in general.
Hovertanks are love. The redone Hetairoi are amazing. I'd buy one even though I don't play the wargame at the moment. But I couldn't never paint it well enough.
>>
>>49253561
Just the little blurb behind them, that they are memnt for warrior monks. I like the image of a monk coming with a huge ass mec t o try to kill you.

Cheers. I remember there was a Grizzly or Kodiak done up as a warrior monk mount in the Blitz rulebook. Similar idea I guess.

i like the CEF frames. though less cool than regular gears. i like their tank look.

if you remove arms and legs the torso is shaped almost like a tank.

they really fit the CEF theme.
>>
>>49253561
Yeah, I need to grab at least one Hetairoi for my South army.

Also need to grab a Visagoth or two.

>>49256713
I just think they look a little silly. The head is so far forward that it always bugged me.

I do like that only one model of frames is piloted by a human, while the rest are GRELs.
>>
>>49257806
The Hetairoi is the one tank I am not a fan of for the south, especially since it is super tanky.
>>
>>49257806

yeah that's why i like it. its the Topsy Turvy king of fools. fuck the humanoid shape.

I like the CEF frames. They're blocky and obviously the ugly bad guy frames, made of better technology that's applied worse. While gears are rugged Jeeps, they're like Hummer H2s for soccer moms.
>>
Any TO&E or fluff filled doctrinal manuals for the IP?
>>
>>49259422
Yeah, they're clearly the ugly "desperate attempt to copy Terra Novan tech" style. I do like the arm mounted lasers and such.

>>49260156
Not that I know of. Might be some stuff in the old RPG books. I think the old Blitz rulebook had some stuff about common tactics used by different factions.
>>
>>49260156
I think there is the hammers of faith book for blitz for instance for the north.
>>
>>49264122
Those books also supplied alternate squads that could be used but probably are not able to be used in the current book. For instance the north book has Ranger squads
>>
>>49266665
Yeah, now those books are only good for fluff.

I like this new, more free form, squad building over the old version.
>>
>>49266877
Yea it is a lot more fun to be able to pick your squads like this, but I do like some of the fluff entries and may build some forces around them, although you can't make some of the squads anymore due to the construction rules now.
>>
>>49266979
Yeah, I get that.

I never had any of the army books, so I never got a chance to read them. Don't even know if I still have the pdfs of the old Blitz rules
>>
>>49269158
they are in the mega folder so you can read up on them if you so choose

The CEF tanks do look nifty.
>>
>>49270945
CEF tanks are sexy, and deadly as fuck. Fast and with turrets no worries of firing arcs. And being tanks they tend to have higher armor and heavier weapons.

Newcomer here, I have some questions.
1.What makes Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicle universe "different" in terms of world building and science? How much amount Hand waving is there?

2.What are some essential books and supplements I need to read in order to know the lore of Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles?

3.Consensus on the video games?
>>
>>49277105
There's some handwaving (mechs etc) but it's more hard and gritty than you would think. Jovian Chronicles in particular is pretty hard without that much handwavium thrown around. HG has more but at least the mechs aren't uber-machines and Tanks will pwn them if they don't play they cards right.
>>
>>49277105
1) Jovian Chronicles is more Gundam, while Heavy Gear is more VOTOMS. Both try to stay within the realm of not going batshit crazy and spitting in the face of science, but they both have their moments. Both far more hard science than say 40k, but not so stuck in it to not be fun.

2) The RPG books and the 3 army books for Heavy Gear give good fluff. The main rulebook for HG has some fluff, but it at times feels a little lite and disjointed.

3) Never actually played them. Heavy Gear Assault looks like it could be fun, but I'm more into strategy games when it comes to vidya.
