a lot, and it's gonna be even more when I finish up the forests, graveyard, hanging trees, and victorian buildings I have in store. and all of that is if I decide not to do some vegetation like bushes and some green area cover (considering I had a player bitching at me and our lack of forests last week)

You flip to see who decided who starts the turn, then you take turns activating models, spending 2 AP (3 if they're a master) and one 0 action, then everything ends and you score points and the next turn starts.

Duels are either against each other or a TN. For a TN you need to reach a target number with your Ml/Sh/Ca + your flipped card, for opposing duels you need to get the same or a higher total than the defender. If there's funny little faces on the card you get a nice little bonus if your card has that face too.

Well as mentioned last thread one is useful to any master and also not bad for denying hunting party/make them suffer.

I would only take two in pools with lots of schemes that use markers, protect territory, breakthrough, etc. Though some of the gaining ground schemes can be stopped without removing the marker, convict labor and leave your mark come to mind. It would be rare that three would be worth it over other options.

As far as synergy goes:
Lynch -- has ace in the hole for their dance and for going defensive. They add a few free flips to fish for said aces.

Shenlong -- lets them go defensive as a 0 action or focus which is good with their wide damage spread.

McCabe -- always likes good minions and his Saber makes them hit hard on top of being tough.

Asami -- she already likes scheme marker strategies and the brothers help there plus the focus thing mentioned before

Brewmaster, Yan Lo, Misaki, Mei Fang -- no particular synergy just if you need what they bring to the table

The guys playing before my game today did that match-up.
It was indeed a clusterfuck.
There was about +40 Poison on the table at one point. Nightmare.

Then I played the McMourning player and Gotrek'd - I think the final score was 8-1.
It was, to be fair, a pretty killy scheme pool, and a lot of his shit was very resilient. I also misplayed several key activations, and forgot a bunch of pushes and places that would've given me much more advantageous positioning.

Nonetheless, the McM pushes, poison auras and condition stacks were absolutely crazy.

So, any tips on the McM Vs Colette matchup?

Typically, you are not going to beat colette at the scheme game. Destroy her beaters, then spend the rest of the game going for your schemes and the strat. An ugly win is always better than a pretty loss.

Well if he was using the Transfusion upgrade(I think that's what it's called) to move poison from his models to yours get performers in there to use their Sip of Wine trigger first. Nothing like a flesh construct stripped of poison and damaged in the process. Beyond that focus on schemes, maybe get a few more killy things to help out in the more killy pools.

He did pretty much exactly that to Joss - Poisoned, Paralyzed, more Poison and then a couple of prods to put him in the death-zone.
Then he did it to Cassandra too.

He was running a hospital crew - McM box plus the Starter box models.

I deployed foolishly, then moved foolishly, and pretty much got tied up in the middle and let him load poison on Joss and then Nurse Heartsbane got Conulsions(?) off on Cassandra to drag her though his lines after she'd activated and put her down to a couple of wounds.

Virtually everything ended up dying because of the Aura triggering Poison at the start of the activation, except the things that Grimwell decapitated.

I got thoroughly outplayed, only a small part of which was because I didn't understand how his crew worked.

I would like to see a gremlin/guild hybrid where there is a gremlin master thats like a smaller lenny; strong, but stupid. There would be 3 totems that he takes, each one has a different ability that pisses off their master where you can call him names or fat or the like. each time that happens it would piss him off / damage him / make him faster or stronger that turn. the fluff around him being that the master just thinks he is a tough guy the its really the totems that are leading the crew.

I think the average is around 35SS. Some are way low (Kirai is like 12SS) and others are high (Perdita can hit 50SS easily)

Typically, a crew and either another crew or 1-2 boxes can get you set up.

So I've been considering my crews and options, and I'm at a loss. I'm trying to give a short description of what each of the Masters I own does, and from there I was going to write a list of what schemes and strats they're good at, so I could peek at it during the list building phase. Mei Feng: Anti-ranged, melee beater, mobility (Constructs).
McCabe: Minion Support, Speed, AP Control (Slow/Fast).
Yan Lo: Durability (Ascendants), Repositioning, Melee Beater

I'll admit I've only played with the man once, but how do you qualify what he does? What would you say he even does? Specifically, what would you use him for in schemes and strats over others, and what would you use others for instead of him?

Flexibility and support.

His ability to stance dance lets him change to the match the situation, and he let his crew rack up huge amount of Focus just by spending 0 actions which most minions don't normally have.

Also, I'd sooner classify Yan Lo as disruption rather than melee beater. He's pretty much made for throwing a wrench into the enemy's plans, getting into the thick of it not to kill things but simply to tear their group apart.Counterscheming or whatever.

As for Shenlong, he goes well with everything except purely killy schemes, and even there he's still an okay choice. He's a all-round flexible buff and even debuffer, healer, and can dish out huge counterattacks once in a while.

Lynch is damage damage damage. Also card advantage* (*damage) and more damage.

Misaki is a sideline harrasser who can at any moment turn into a scalpel that dives in and kills out whatever you want.

Mei Feng is more of a Brawler than a beater, and isn't really designed to take on big targets, more groups of targets.

McCabe is support for everyone. The minion thing only applies for Black Flash. And his AP control is more of a Slow-debuffer. He can't hold a candle to Shenlong for overal AP control.

Brewmaster is Debuffer. That's it. Don't bother with the poison and focus on how easy it is to kill something with a - to everything/drain their hand 5 cards per activation and likely kill/paralyze it while you're at it.

Without going into all schemes individually...

Yan Lo is ideal for anything that requires control of board regions. He can so casually tear group structures apart and occupy large groups of units (never bother with the Kakkura, take Misdirection instead), and combined with Relinquary basically capitalize on the fact that neither Yan nor any of his crew are even worth the effort it takes to kill them, since they'll bounce right back up again in seconds.

McCabe, especially if you have some guild hounds, is the best schemer TT has. He can get across the field in an instant, and lets his crew follow suit. His upgrades make it so that any model in his crew can double as something to occupy the enemy. Basically anything that relies on your crew being apart, he can do really well in.

Mei Feng is a Brawler. What that basically means is that she's essentially designed to take the heat off her team. With the - to Ca/Sh, large engagement range and incredible speed, she can tie up swaths of models while her crew gets on with whatever it is they're doing. From what you have she's the best at killing, though the three remaining masters are all better at it than she. I'd say she's more a pick for when the opponent is bringing a large amount of models and challenging that (Arcanists/Ressers with a schemepool that rewards bringing more models), rather than scheming herself. Despite being so fighty she's not ideal for fighty schemes.

Shenlong is almost like McCabes close-range counterpart in what you take him for? Amazing at scheming and counterscheming with his Wandering River Style, brings huge control over your and your opponent's models and placement, and is really just a great pick at almost any kind of scheme. Even fighty schemes he does well at as, like McCabe, he's basically a force multiplier for his crew. Except Shenlong brings amazing healing to boot. And free focus for everyone.

As for crews, Yan and Mei are very tied to a specific core of models and printed synergies, while the rest of TT basically consists of a master that does whatever it is he does and a crew that might capitalize on that, but never has to rely on it. McCabe might want a huge minion, Lynch might like people who discard or gain +++, but in the end you can essentially make a list that's good at the schemes you want to do, and then paste a master on top of it.

Infiltration is great. You can include models you normally couldn't either as standalones or to complement your master.

Mei loves metal gamin and the golem, McCabe is great with hounds or any Guardsmen, Lynch loves depleted and stitched, and even Yan Lo might hire an onryo now and again.

Book 4 adds great stuff to infiltrate, namely Wokou Raiders for Misaki and Goryo for Yan Lo.

This did come up though just to make sure this is right:

My Will states the Minion can make a 1 action that gets positive flips to any duels. The Coryphee 1 action MI also naturally gets a positive flip to any duels.

That means if Collodi My Wills the Coryphee it gets a double positive on that attack right?

Also--if it states "Within 6 inches.."....it doesn't require LOS right? So you can My Will around a corner?

Almost all Ressers are summoners, venturing into them you are looking at something like 150+ as a starting point. Some models are more useful than others though, so you can pick those up first. In my experience though other than the seishin and maybe one onryo you won't bring the rest of the box. Kirai wants a datsu ba for more seishin, a box of gaki, a box of drowned, maybe jaakuna umbae depending on how you want your list, one hanged at least for summoning, izamu, and some shikome. She doesn't really use totems that much, some people rave about the gravyard spirit but I've never gotten a ton of use out of it.

It's not that she's a hoard so much that most of the stuff in her box she'll get for free. The ikirio is summoned not hired, same with seishin. Then the Lost Love and Onryo are just cheap.

I've actually been attempting to replicate vassal maps to sort of establish standard terrain. I use templates as the functional terrain, but attach 3d representations to reach for looks. Very nice for ease of play.

I gave him a few pointers on how he could better run astringers, as he seemed to want to run them out into the middle when he should have held back. I also recommended to him that he hold abuela back as she was the first thing I gibbed to make a young nephilim.
I think it was kind of a poor matchup for him to be honest because I proceeded to lure in and then conga-line his crew. Each death just meant I could control the board a little bit more. He did well on turns 2-3 killing off two tots and a young, but I dunno what he could have done to stop me from getting into melee with him.

He was hyped after the game though, he had never seen a grow list and told me he really enjoyed playing against it even after I tabled him.

I play her with true mother and I set up a slingshot with Lilith usually keeping nekima as the last thing in the crew that I move on the first turn so I know she will connect with something.
Once nekima has made combat you wanna bury that bitch in combat every turn. If you kill something have something else that can push you into combat or make Damn sure you can win init next turn. once nekima has killed 2 things and possibly made you a mature nephilim he job is done, you can let her die. She's a scalpel with a fair amount of wounds but she's no tank, let her deal her parting blows and don't worry when she eventually goes down. also remember that Blood for blood is an amazing ability that is a final "Fuck you" to hard to kill models that can net you a terror tot in the process.

Off the top of my head Wrath, Taelor, Anna, and Hannah are the only merc Henchmen I can think of. Anna probably is still the best bet since she has a solid ranged attack and can stop things from placing near her. Taelor could also be neat if you can keep her alive.

Wrath is probably too fragile and Hannah doesn't really do much for a Viks crew since there aren't a lot of casting actions.

Exactly, Malifaux is pretty straight forward and exact when it comes to wording. Not gaining a condition is different from removing it so the specification that they can't be removed never applies.

If they had wanted it to work differently they could have worded it something like: "When this model gains a condition from an action or ability of an enemy model it may immediately remove that condition without applying it's effects." That would then leave conditions on that could not normally be removed.

It might have been a terrain thing. The top factions all have a very strong ranged game (Guild was apparently playing Sonnia and Perdita, for example), while 10T, NB, and Resser crews are often pretty biased towards Ml.

I know literally nothing about the event except for what's in this thread, however, so that's entirely speculative. 10T have at least three very solid masters, though, and to my knowledge only one of them is really considered sub-par (Hi Mei!). I'd take it the rankings as an unfortunately odd quirk rather than an indicator that something's wrong with the faction.

Generally a bit of everything. Our group has a small pool of assorted terrain and we'll pick and mix what we want or are planning to use.

Depends on the theme. City will have up to half the board in buildings, fences, walls the the like.
Wasteland may have as little as a sixth in rocks, dead trees, hills and lonely, forgotten graves.
My favrioute set-up is the 'High Noon' board a friend made with buildings seperated by narrow allys flanking either side of a nice wide central road, some trees and a small grave yard at the edges behind the buildings.
Most people tend to be less focused on winning on this board and more on having fun. You tend to get the the theme to 'The good, the bad and the ugly' whistled at least once during a game.

I use themed inserts or full resin bases for my guys. after custom-making craftworld bases for my 40k Eldar, I have been rather fed up with it all and take the easier way.

Convict Labor is easy with practiced production on Cassandra, too.

Ten Thunders player. Either grab Shenlong or Yan Lo, and shove their troops away from the turf marker. Meh. I love wyrd, but this seems like they're stepping in thier own toes.

Part of the attraction of Malifaux is that you get the wargame itch scratched with a low model count. Adding squad based combat doesn't seem to add much depth to me for the increased cost of entry.

I'm still interested in the fluff. And some of the models might work for cross over stuff which would be cool.

I'd say the same thing. I got tired of 40K and to an extent Warmachine's bullshit as they constantly push giant centerpiece kits rather than practical gaming pieces. Having a game where the absolute largest figure sits on a 50mm base is nice.

I definitely will look for conversion material myself. Now that Dashel can summon guild guards, having more sculpts to avoid identical twins will be nice.

A full crew is like 8 models, so not too much compared to other games. Get the Viks crew box, buy some of the Outcasts staples, and when Parker's box comes out buy that as well. That would be all you would ever really need. Summon spam masters are a different story, but with Viks and Parker you should be fine.

You can only have one totem in play. A few masters can summon their totems and they always say stuff like "Sacrifice any other totem in play first". Far as the student of conflict, I don't really use her. I like the Malifaux Child in Viks.

Anyway, most totems tend to say (Totem (MASTERNAMEHERE) ) meaning that you can only hire them if you're using that master. Student of Conflict, Malifaux Child, and the generic totems in other factions don't have that restriction.

I don't use A&D so I'm not sure about that.

Either are fine starting places. Hoffman is probably a little more complicated, but not terribly so.

My usual recommendations for Ramos is another box of spiders, an Electric Creation, and Johan. Colette's box is also good if you're looking for a second master.

I honestly forget what's in Hoffman's starter, but there's probably two or three other robots you'd want to pick up plus maybe some guild staples like Stalkers. He also has the option to take some of the Arcanist constructs, so he's a bit more expensive to fill out all your options.

The other options for robot masters are Mei Feng, who loves robots because of her rail walk ability, Collodi since all his puppets are constructs (though maybe not robots, technically) and Leveticus who can take an upgrade to hire any non-Gremlin construct in the game.

I started Ressers with Kirai and all I can say is don't. Shes in a weird place where she doesn't have as many points as other starters but at the same time Ikiryo just utter fucks other starters if you play her correctly.

I actually stopped playing Kirai until the other guys I started playing with got a bit more because starting crews generally can't deal with her crew too well.

I've been told Misaki, Toni, Viktorias and Mei of different people and Shenlong looks like a contender also.

I was wondering what everyone's own thoughts were about them.

I'm looking mostly for who would make for the best melee focused group with a nice and varied assortment. Like how many fighting games have an eye-catching eclectic cast.

Toni Ironsides builds up adrenaline as she gets hit and depending on how many people she's in combat with, and can spend it for more punching, healing, and stuff like that. She's basically pure fists in combat style.

Mei Feng has tiger claws and a jackhammer kick at her disposal, and has the ability to infinitely combo if you get the right cards and have enough enemies around. However, if you don't get the miracle, she can't just spend a point to do it again. She also has the ability to leap through constructs to get up in your shit - There's a certain level of comedy to turn one, being in the opponent's deployment zone and kicking shit in the face

Toni isn't a beater. She is a control master fluffed as a beater. If you expect her to be all punchan dicks you'll be disappointed.

She takes a hell of a beating though, has the best buff in the game in hand picked men, and is an area denial beast

I think that both of those are good choices. Both have staples for the entire outcasts faction, so you can expand easily. That said Levi is almost a faction unto his own with how large his hiring pool is.

I tried my first real game today, 50ss, Colette vs Perdita. My coryphee's did well, killing franscisco, and prompt-sacrificed to kill loco. They're fast and blendery, and being swift, they can charge when summoned, loved em. Angelica was good to, won me the game. Cassandra did some good, her smoke and mirrors when surrounded by 5 fellows worked wonders with plant explosives, but retard-charging with her was less successful. The Arcane emissary only looked menacing, but got killed first, and didn't do much. Colettes upgrades where a waste of points, but her now you see me saved the day when she junped up on a roof and hid behind an old day cowboy style storesign. Only colette survived, and I won 6-5. Not bad for a first game.

Lesson for next time; less retard charges.

Is he enjoyable to play (with and against) assuming there is egregious activation control faggotry going on?

Is he awfully difficult to learn to play?

I've got the opportunity to buy his starter and Brotherhood of the Rat half price.
I'm not fantastically excited about him, but it'd be nice to have another crew in another faction, and it would play pretty differently from my Arcanists (who tend to be pretty elite and activation-light).

A lot of the zones and measurements are constructed around the intended size, but is there a reason it can't work bigger?

I know the game loses some of the snappy play and turns into a bit of a grind much past 50ss, but if you're going to do that, could/should you adjust size accordingly?

Annoying, but not much more than that - the looooow damage is hardly exciting, and the repeater trigger (I would expect) is of limited use since it's only 2", and it's still a shooting attack (so no firing into a scrum).

The cheap Focus and range of triggers on the melee look good, but 8ss is pretty fucking steep.
Solid damage output though.

I don't have my cards handy, but I've always felt that she has two clearly great ones and a couple of mediocre options.
Trapdoors and (to a slightly lesser extent) Trick of the Hat are just bloody great, even in non-marker schemes, for shenanigan-maximisation.

My friend is moving overseas and to help fund his venture he's selling pretty much everything he owns.
I now have his Levi, Ramos and Hoff crew boxes, most still in sprues and all unassembled as he never got around to his 40k Ad-Mech robot army idea.

So why not try playing them.

Buy the Seamus, Nico, and Transmortis boxes (you only really need Punks from Nico's box, but hey why not pick up another master along the way).

Hire the Belles, summon the Punks and Students, draw cards with Phillip, reposition Molly with Sybelle, and use Crooligans to be annoying little twerps like they were made for. Hire the Valedictorian too if the objectives are killy.

Additional options for expansion include the Rogue Necromancy for another horror beatstick, Drowned and Doxies for additional summons, Yin, Chiaki, or Nurses 'cause they're almost always good, the Carrion Emissary if you're fancy, or Killjoy if even the idea of your opponent possibly having fun deeply offends you.

There's also Spirit Molly, who ought to follow basically the same purchase advice as Kirai, but why would you do that when Punk Zombies are horrors?

I feel like the go to upgrades on Colette are Cabaret Choreography for summoning Doves, and Shell Game for the extra trigger on prompt and because occasionally an extra 4" on a Dove lets you trapdoor a marker in the right place.

Practiced Production itself usually goes on Cassandra or Angelica (or now Carlos, I guess) to give you a little more flexibility in your activation order.

Won my game, played 50SS against Guild Lucius. Played Reconnoiter, with Assassinate and Vendetta, opponent using Assassinate and Frame for Murder. Lost Vendetta, because I chose Captain Dashel with Mad Dog, who got gunned down real quick by Guild Riflemen, but killed Lucius and got 1 point from Reconnoiter before his hand started drawing a line of 1s and 2s and called it because he couldn't come back from it

Parker is really fun, amazingly versatile with his upgrade cycling too. I'm really liking how he plays cause he feels different to Jack Daw to me as well

My dream is to blow up dynamite to draw cards with Highwayman, then discard Highwayman and change plans for a five finger discount into Black Market to also get soulstones for blowing up dynamite.

I guess Stick Up and probably Hail of Bullets are the major work horses though. Free walks and making your own hazardous terrain seem good.

Human Shield seems a little bit more situational, and Coordinated Heist looks amazing on the first turn and possibly with Undead Outlaws, but I imagine it gets dropped eventually for something else.

Also, has any of Parker's crew been scanned? His card, his upgrades, and the Undead Outlaws are in the imgur gallery but I didn't see the rest of his crew box.

Even with just a slop hauler Francois is amazing. He can burn wounds and heal back up unless they commit to melee, which he can squeal away from if it looks too tough.

At def 4 and at best 8 wounds anything with half a damage flip can kill him. If you get the first attack, reckless, and dumb luck once he's down to seven.

You're pairing him with willpower 1 Lenny and a five wound five point model. This leaves about five points left for your last model, and you've got nothing to help force engagement on your own terms, which is the only way Francois has a chance of surviving retaliation.
