"Tell me something. A vacation implies you come back to work after the vacation ends, yes?"

"Tell me, how many bombs do you know have come back from their vacation?"

I would totally read a gripping kafka-esque story about bombs who don't understand their social position, and a defuser who has to explain the nature of reality to them.

Well done OP, that's compelling as fuck and now I want to write about it. For a short story, would it be better from the perspective of the bomb, from the perspective of the diffuser, or from a 3rd person omniscient narrator?
>>
>>49075615
>Bomb is indoctrinated that it'll get 72 detonators in explodehalla if it explodes just right
>Defusers' job just got harder
>>
>>49075762

Third person character.

He is the bomb planter, in his journal/voice recorder, speaking of his new experiments for the period-of-time and how the fucking EOD is uncanny with the philosophy. He gets further and further into indoctrinating them until he starts experimenting with invented religions, then dead religions, then his own religion, until he is so uncomfortable he retires.
>>
This is pretty simple. I introduce a religion that shuns explosion as the instant ticket to suffer in the afterlife even if some bombs believe they won't die from exploding. I also incorporate a philosophy into the religion that praises doing nothing.

Problem solved.
>>
>>49075615
Deprogramming bombs from indoctrination?
That would be hard for the bomb I guess, their objective in life it's to explode. That's what they were made for. I guess they would end depressed as shit. The other way would be to make them work for you, offer them a better objective or something. But would they care if they blow a burger school or a towelhead school?
>>
>>49075615
Got a big chuckle out of me. I'm not sure how I can utilize this, but I hope to find a way.

Could be worse.

In Transformers comics you had the cons making bombs by wiring people's vitals up to the explosive components.

They needed negotiators to keep them calm so they didn't explode while they were killing them.

Just don't teach them phenomenology.

Anyone who has ever played an Eversor Assassin has essentially played a sapient bomb. With those exceptions, would it be possible to make a decent Awakened Bomb player character?

Anyway, the bio-melting shit is a last resource option. They don't waste years and millions of thrones in bio engineering and training for a glorified Allah Ackbaer.

The cons are equal opportunity dicks though. Turning their own traitors and deserters into bombs as well.

It's no wonder that even with the war over, not all the bots are taking Megs' change of heart seriously.
>>
Does every bomb have to be literal suicide bomb?
>>
>>49076417
>Turning their own traitors and deserters into bombs as well.
>Decepticon prisoners

That's just worse. Killing prisoners of war is a war crime.

Oh god, you don't want to get into war crimes in the Transformer's wars.

The very act of Robots in Disguise is perfidy. (And even worse with bots like Ratchet using ambulances as alternate modes. No wonder the Red Cross won't let them use their insignia)

And of course then there's Cold Phosphex, more commonly known as Glass Gas. That's stuff's a clear chemical weapon, utterly horrific, and used by the Autobots.

>>
>>49075989
You could convince them that they should save their explosion for somthing useful and productive for society.
You don't have to stop them exploding, just stop them from exploding where people get hurt.
Maybe they get re-purposed for civilian industries.
>>
>>49075725
>teach it phenomenology
>>
>>49077512
Even he recognised the risk.

Megatron's been responsible for so many awful things... but those are too big to grasp.

Getaway using Tailgate as a pawn/victim in a plot to dispose of Megatron? That's easy to hate.

Absolutely! I lost my pdf so fingers crossed anon posts it.

It's a game set in the near future about a cabal of wizards making all the nuclear missiles sentient because they're a bunch of grumpy incompetent wizards mad that technology made everyone forget about them and nobody thinks magic is real. In the game, the PCs are the sentient nukes, who must come to terms with their purpose and creation and overcome the existential crisis of being before they blow up or power down.

>>
>>49079957
Nah, in Dark Star the bomb knew exactly what was going on.

It just didn't have any desire to survive.

Even when they talked it down, they did so by convincing it that Bomb 20 couldn't be sure it had been given its orders, and it wouldn't want to explode when it wasn't meant to, would it?

Since this often comes up in these threads with "Quest threads are pushing worthwhile threads off" and "[Hypothetical Scenario]-> What does this thread have to do with traditional games?" I wanna ask:

What particular kinds of threads would you want /tg/ to focus on?
This can be as specific as
"Every major RPG system like WoD, D&D and Shadowrun" to
"Games with stats that aren't sports (which would include RPGs, CCGs, Wargames and even quests)" to
"the previous one but also threads which aren't about a particular game but instead about hypotheticals that might appear in such games, like 'Do you enter Silent hill if you don't feel guilty for something' or 'What would be if all bombs were sapient and EOD Technicians would have to convince them to not explode'" to
everything in between.
>>
>>49075615
Someone has watched Darkstar recently.
>>
>Convince bomb not to explode and find greater purpose in society and life.
> It sets new goals and dreams for itself.
>Acquires higher education. Received doctorate in sociology and philosophy.
> Writes best selling book for unexploded bombs searching for meaning and equality in a society that mistrusts and fears them.

"I'm tired of all these bombs taking our jobs. Last year Rodney's daughter brought one home for Thanksgiving with her. He should never have let her go off to that arts college and I'll be damned if I let that happen in my house."

>Note:The artificial intelligence community has long protested the use of rational, "thinking" machines as detonators. The war-machine lobby is quite powerful in governments across the galaxy, however, so legislation restricting manufacturers has never been successfully passed.

>One well-intentioned group of artificial intelligences mounted a huge media campaign: "Truth," they called it. Their public service annoucements targeted young AIs serving as detonators, explaining in uncompromising language that their choices would get them killed, and that there were things the smart-bomb industry just did not want them to know.

>The campaign was a dismal failure. AIs working as detonators do not get to watch television.

>Addendum to Note: At the time I wrote this strip I thought I was being SOOOO clever. "Smart bombs!" I said to my wife. Then she told me about a horrid B-movie called Dark Star, in which a smart bomb has to be argued out of blowing up. I think it was filmed before I was born.

Honestly, i'm fine with [hypothetical concept] threads, because I see them as exercises in worldbuilding, which is a major part of the more roleplay oriented games on this board.

I'm not okay with quests because they're essentially webcomics with fan input, similar to MSPA or Prequel. MSPA was in fact the inventer of the concept, with only Drew the Lich its predecessor, and it structured very differently. They most certainly, however, are not games, nor could one call them traditional given their existence of less than a decade.

It's one of those weird love child situations, like where neither /a/ nor /v/ was the proper place for pokemon discussion so they gave it its own board. Quests are similarly a kind of lovechild between us and /co/. Not quite a webcomic, not quite a roleplaying game; a little of both but not wholly either. And similarly, it too got its own board.
