How do you roleplay high Wisdom? I can't help but fall back on tired cliches when it comes to this sort of thing. Ones that sound ludicrous without a lot of suspension of disbelief.

With the cynicism of the modern age and whatnot, how can you convincingly act like someone who goes by intuition, who feels rather than thinks, who listens to the universe, etc.

Especially when you aren't roleplaying the end all be all guru, but a trainee who still is leagues above the berserker.

Be really wise relative to your context. Like, if you're a trainee, just be wise beyond your years, until your character can short of grow into it's stats

But what does that entail?

Wisdom seems to always seem to be defined in hindsight. If your intuition was right, you are wise. If your intuition wa wrong, you are not.

Say if we encounter a potential threat. We can either extend an olive branch, avoid them or engage. Which is wise? What would a novice do? What would an elder do?

Could you not just do a wisdom or some such check?
>>
>>48687317
Theoretically, but is that not the same thing as just rolling for diplomacy without saying what your speech is going to be about? Roll playing, not roleplaying?
>>
>>48687362
Well I don't know your house rules, but we agreed to roll for the speech and then base how good you delivered it based off your score. You'd just get the wisdom check and the dm will give you information which you then spin it to sound. Admitting you don't know something can be a sign of wisdom and show you're not willing to jeopardize the group cause of being known as the one that's always right.

I think that's where the GM should come in.

high wisdom: common sense, perceptive, "gut feeling" is usually accurate, good at seeing true lies, good at determining intent, good at making snap decisions based on limited data

low int: poor puzzle-solving ability, bad at formal math or logic, doesn't put 2 and 2 together, cant really grasp technical details

put these together and you have someone who often sees answers quickly, but cant explain them right away. he can tell a person is lying through body language, or verbal tics, but will be fooled by a good alibi. he can see that the vending machine has left imprints on the ground, but will scratch his head and go "weird" rather than deduce that there is a secret tunnel.

He isnt the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he one of the most reliable

It is just hard to roleplay common sense. I know I am bad at it. Especially since as you mentioned, it is a gut feeling and if you don't get that, you are stuck floundering. At least with high int, you can sit there for twenty minutes thinking of something smart and then pretend it came to you quickly.

>>48687397
Yeah. That sort of thing depends on the group. It makes sense to me.
>>
>>48687522
for starters, be the lie detector of the group, be the guy who checks if the guests are happy or sad, check if the guards want prisoners or to kill you, be the one who checks if the animals want to eat you or defending a nest, be the one who says "black pine from the high mountain, horse hair from imperial stallions, sulfur from cannons"

So that's the practical aspect of wisdom, but is there not more? Should I not help the party find something within themselves?

I don't know how to do this without seeming like a nag, but I was under the impression that a wiseman does more than just be practical.
