I'm looking to start running a super hero type game for my friends. Coincidentally I just finished reading Worm. Do you anons know if there are any ways to generate sufficiently random super powers? What system allows for more unusual power archetypes in your opinion?

The Worm fandom actually has an app for generating random powers. It's called the Futhark generator. It goes by themes rather than actual power concepts, so it requires some work to be put in, but it's still cool. Check it out. http://futharkgeneratorphp.nfshost.com/

Thanks. It's going to be great for character building during session 0. But what system is best for super hero games? I've got three weeks before our planned session 0 and everyone else can read PDFs while I get the physical book.

Which edition? There seems to be 3 different ones and a deluxe edition. Which one is better?

Seems pretty cool, but really iffy on what superpowers are started as.

Thanks. Seems like I need to do some more research than I anticipated. But I should be able to skim through some more articles this morning.

Look at some threads on rpg.net for Wild Talents power creation threads and those should help too.

I'd recommend Wild Talents over M&M if you're looking to do Worm-esque stuff. They're both really good systems, and both would work fine, but Wild Talents is a lot more geared around the sort of stuff (and in particular, the types of powers) seen in Worm.
If you want to look into M&M, though, the "Hero's Handbook" is the core rulebook and everything you need. The GM's guide is useful but supplementary. You can find everything here, I think: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/026war1l4oo42/Mutants_and_Masterminds
And here's Wild Talents

Make absolutely sure to grab Progenitor along with the core rules if you're planning to do Worm stuff. It's a very Worm-esque setting, with Worm-style powers, and has like 70+ different metahumans statted up that you could easily use (and also serve as examples of how to stat up weird powers).
