What are your most and least favorite veils, /dsp/ general?
>>
>>48343149
>worst general

But we have plenty of knowledge of just how bad our system is. And we hate Pathfinder for it.

And we get 3pp writers posting here for feedback and playtests!
>>

>It's legitimately the worst general on the board.
Go look at the 5E general, I fucking dare you.
>>
>>48343053

There was this one cavalier-loud, mildly racist, extremely classist, and prone to turning simple engagements into terrifying fuckfests.

His military acumen is best summed up thusly: https://youtu.be/vZOr0vMz3AM
>>
>>48343056
My players are rebuilding the Knights of Surraz, an order devoted to the extermination of goblinoids, orcs, and trolls <collectively referred to as "greenskins", because my players wanted the extra dose of fantasy racism>, because the crown couldn't/wouldn't adequately protect the outlying farming villages where the greenskins are known to regularly show up. The Order collapsed during a few hundred years in which goblins & co. literally just stopped existing, but now they're back and the existing infrastructure just can't repel them. Yeah, it's cliche, but my players are new and still in the "THIS IS JUST LIKE <THING>! I LOVE <THING>! I CAN'T BELIEVE I GET TO PLAY <THING>!" phase.

They're also warlocks, drawing power from the Death Knights that each previous Grand Commander became.
>>

The Lumenaires are a knightly brotherhood of the highest caliber, an order sworn to defend the crown and her interests throughout the world. Their leader is the Solaire, the crown prince of the kingdom and wielder of the fated blade Lightbringer, forged of the blood of Soleil and the heart of a fallen star.

There are more in my setting, but those are the ones I can write up on short notice with a phone.

Shadow of the Colossus.
>>
>>48343056

The Order of the Plaintive Toad, a group of knights dedicated to defending the populace from the mightiest beasts through the use of strong arms, thick armor, and copious amounts of black powder. The name comes from a supposedly prophetic dream the founder had after drinking heavily one night. Its silly name and backstory aside, it is a well-respected (if not especially popular) order, particularly in its native region of Hoban.
>>
Say I want to buy the books so I can play at the table with some lads from my campus.

What books would be absolutely essential?
>>
>>48343056
The Order of the Blistering Light, a knightly order created by a fallen paladin dedicated to the absolute cleansing of the mortal world of fiendish taint. They hunt demons and devils and such, but teiflings, witches, and abyssal/infernal sorcerers are also on the chopping block regardless of alignment. The public opinion of them ranges from hero worship to total dread depending on where you live.

>>
>>48343056
I have an entire sort-of-modern country where they're obsessed with Knightly Motifs and a philosophy they call "the New Chivalry".

Named Camlann, it's a constitutional republic with about 48 million people within its walls. Very western/central European in terms of language and appearance (think Germany, France, and Poland).

Always seeking to remove humans from the battlefield, their military (in association with Caliburn Combined Arms) have developed several lines of construct to ensure the safety and victory of their soldiers. The simplest is the Armiger, a dumb, humanoid construct designed for ease of manufacturing; there are roughly 10 of them for every human in the Camlann Armed Forces. The next step up is the more expensive Landsknecht - heavily armed and armored at almost 10 feet tall of humanoid steel and adamantine, but still not very bright. Human soldiers command these two models from within the Hussar, a construct armor slightly bulkier than the Landsknecht at 12 feet, but every bit as durable.

The pinnacle of Camlann construct technology, though, is the Chevalier. Unlike the Armiger and the Landsknecht, the Chevalier possesses a verifiable soul, allowing it to interface with the Red Dream, Luminous Song, and Sacred Void, the three sources of magic in the world. The Chevalier come in two forms: the Warframe, which is basically a Landsknecht with a slot to insert a Soulform, and the Homiform, which looks and moves almost identically to the humanoid species it is based on.

If a Chevalier's body is destroyed beyond repair, their Soulform can be extracted and inserted into a new body, though this process gives them up to 2 negative levels that last for a week as they adjust to the new body (Chevaliers with less than 3 levels take different penalties, but those are few and far between).
>>
>>48343735
You can, but it's really unbalanced. The monk is going to be very sad, the rogue and fighter will have issues too. Y'all might still be able to have fun, but a druid is likely to make people feel out classed.
>>
>>48343735

Yeah, sure. Though if you're worried about money, we do have a tradition of unrepentant piracy-you can download anything you need for free and send it to your boys.

https://mega.nz/#F!vIJn1Y6Q!MbyyqQK6u0tWWSAimsIjiw!qNY1gAbY

Though again, the SRD has quite a bit of stuff on it already and requires no questionable ethics.

So /pfg/, I want to run something by you, let me know if this works or if there's something I'm missing.

Step 0: Be a Fighter that keeps Armor Specialization. I know it's a stretch for some people, but stay with me here.

Step 1: Wear Piecemeal armor.
>As long as she is wearing a single armor piece, she is considered to be wearing armor for any effects that rely on wearing armor (such as the fighter class’s armor training and armor mastery)
So put three different Heavy armor pieces on, Tatami-do Arms (+1 AC), O-yoroi Legs (+1 AC), Stone Coat Torso (+8 AC), for a total of 11 AC (extra +1 from wearing a full suit)

Step 2: Take Armor Focus three times, selecting Tatami-do, O-yoroi, and Stone Plate. AC is now 14 since each armor type has been increased by 1.

Step 3: Take the Armor Specialization Advanced Armor Training option three times, selecting Tatami-do, O-yoroi, and Stone Plate. Each type of armor now gains 1/4 your Fighter level to a maximum of +5 for heavy at level 20.

So with all that your armor would be granting a +29 before any kind of enhancement bonus. Does this work?
>>
>>48344161
Even if it does that's way too many resources spent for AC.

Well because depending you have to deal with a relative, DM gf, close friend, retarded cousin and you can't simply say hey fuck off.
>>
>>48343056
My setting has a group of knights known as the Comrades of the Sun, so named in recognition of their patron deity, The Sun's Lost Brother (now dead). They have a thing of wandering from place to place righting wrongs and defending the weak, but oddly enough, rarely actually find their way to where they were trying to get to.

They are also known as Beggar Knights by some because they tend to be penniless and only able to pay for food/lodgings by helping out.

Basically, they are a compulsively helpful knightly order entirely composed of Ryoga Hibiki.
>>
>>48344161
Step 2 and 3 don't work. You can't get the bonus from the same feat multiple times.
>>
>>48343573
A laptop or tablet with pirated PDFs.

If you really must give Paizo money, I'd go with the Core Book, Bestiary and Advanced Player's Guide. Everything later has too high of a miss-to-hit ratio.
>>
>>48344189
Ether way it is a social problem, and not a pathfinder/rule problem.

>>

Problem easily avoided if the system didn't had this gap.

Its just a social problem, don't worry mate.
>>
>>48344229
Well, yeah. Basically every game gives you ways to make something retarded. The problem is the people who do so and then act like bitches when called out on it.

I mean, there is nothing wrong with making something retarded for the sake of it, but there is a problem when you try to force it on other people.

We call this being a GM

>>
These generals are starting to go the way of Kawata shijo General and Those pitiful bioshock Generals, what's the point anymore?
>>
>>48343887
Because 2hu does theoretical optimization builds and tries to pass them off as builds that should be put into actual games. He steps across the unspoken line where you cross from being reasonable, though powerful, and jumps right into the territory of "No. Remake your character."

During the few times that he doesn't do that, his posts are stiff, robotic, and devoid of any feeling. He writes excessively long explanations, and he's an avatarfag. If he at least adopted a trip so he could be filtered, it'd be at least marginally less shit, but he doesn't. And he doesn't do it because he's such an autistic little fagburger that he forces himself on his, like his father probably did on him when he was little.

Tl;dr: He's a worthless sack of shit that needs to die, and nobody wants him.

I feel like he is worse than then because it is clear he doesn't really like PF, but is nervous about going back to 4e because he is scared of invoking the banhappy mods again.

New AP incoming.
The BBEG is a hobgoblins swasbuckler.
The iconics are druid, hunter, witch, and swashbuckler.
>>
>>48344458
Stop this meme already, it was everyone's collective autism that drove Forrest out.
>>
>>48344583
>The AP begins with your lovely, quiet, peaceful home town where nothing ever goes wrong until a massive hundreds of hobgoblins descend on you, taking your neighbors slaves, putting everybody you don't like to the sword and you have to run around, gathering as many supplies and survivors as you can before hightailing it into the woods.
>>
The spellblade page on pfsrd is pretty sparse, is that all the material about the class or are their fc and favoured race bonuses set out for the class?
>>
>>48344565

Bards can be STRONG, but not World-shattering.

Thundercaller archetype is stronk, particularly if you allow several-times-per-round multiperformance (standard/move/swift) thunderbullfuck.

and gates of babylon (Performance+Discordant Voice+Sonic Thrust) can be pretty impressive damage.

But in terms of wizard-tier WORLDFUCKING, it's not so much minmaxing that's dangerous as intelligent use of skills and charisma.

Gareth got run off by a bunch of people sniping at him for being unprofessional while he was trying to deal with the shitstorm that erupted. He's going to be back in August, maybe.

Touhoufag's being pointed to as the one responsible for Forrest's departure, but no proof's come up, just people going 'he admitted to it'.

Ron Lundeen and Thurston Hillman are both excellent authors, when they're allowed to be.

>Country Name:
Capre
>Nickname:
Land of a Thousand Lakes
>Government:
Constitutional Monarchy split into three sections. Thirty years ago the bright and glorious cultural revolution raged and changed the country, forcing the Archduke of Capre to sign several papers. The first was the paper of intent for succession from the larger Deneheian empire. The second was the constitution establish the rights of the people and a two house parliament system. Immediately afterwards they removed his arms so that no noble may "Raise their hands against the people". This has been done to his son as well when he took his position as Archduke. The parliment is seperated into the House of Masters and the House of Commons. The house of Commons is made up of any individual with sufficient property value that wishes to speak, and where legislature is introduced. It is a roil of opinions as people come and go on their whims. One not even need be a citizen to speak in the house of commons. The House of Masters is chosen by vote of those qualified to speak in the House of Commons. They vote on legislature introduced.
>Landscape:
Wet and humid, numerous marshes and marshlands cut through the country of a thousand lakes, forcing the people to live in and around water.
>Size:
Single large metropolitan population central named Mordrin, it is a city on a lake with a canal dug to the sea and serves as the trade center of the region. Most other settlements are small, settling onto lakes to feed through the streams and rivers towards Modrin to connect to the outside world. So middling population on a whole.
>Imports/Exports:
Exports: Rice, Various Fish (large canning industry), duck-wheat, waterfowl, horseradish, lumber (river birch, willow), botanicals, alcohol
Imports: Iron, Glass, various metal goods, jewlery, spices, hardwoods, coal
>>
>>48347471
>Relations:
Strained with the Deneheians due to their leaving thirty years prior they have instead found an ally in the Vilgoths on their other boarder, who have tried to coerce them into joining the larger Republic. They have played with the idea, but for now have maintained their independence.
>Ruler:
Archduke Hadrian Coore, an impotent leader used as a figure head to blame the country's woes on. After the loss of his arms at age 19, his father having passed away, he harbors a bitter hatred for the country. Indeed his life is that of a prison, guards ensuring he does not commit suicide to spite the country, and ensuring an heir is produced.

First Master Morgoth is an elderly man, now relegated to use of a cane. He is the longest standing member of the House of Masters and an important figure in the cultural revolution, having lead the Uprising at Bare Bridge to take the royal manor, despite being outnumbers. As a war hero he used his prestige to gain power, and now sits atop the country. He is a hard liner against joining the republic.

Master Ulsvar is a former member of the Republic now living permanently in Capre, and is a main voice in it joining the republic.

Master Yiller is the current high lord general of the military, and the most anti-nobility master, in his mind the Archduke's position should be done away with in its entirety.

Hmm... I've been contemplating trying to work up a gravity-based discipline, Fly might not make a bad skill for it. A lot of the maneuvers are going to involve "falling" in the wrong direction, so directing those falls with Fly checks could work out perfectly.

Word of warning, the rules are thus;
>25 PB
>Core races, have to recheck if its core classes too
>level 2, one of them dedicated to a subclass called "Noble."
>Noble is actually pretty nifty, gives you a new knowledge dedicated to knowing about your kingdom and foreign kingdoms, the ability to use the modifier of your choice on a skill roll, and a +4 to Charisma-based checks while wearing gear indicating you as a lord of your kingdom.

Last book, the player are starting a an effort to take back the city. I'm homebrewing the shit out of it too, the the point where I took it out of Golarion and into my homeworld game. My players knew a lot of the plot, but they did a great job keeping OOC knowledge out of it.

But we are NOT using the R word.
This is not plucky CG rebels.

This is a LAWFUL POLICE ACTION.

>>48347415
The funny thing is he was against it because of the centaur bit.
Then he saw some art of her in a paizo book and we all watched Everyday Monster Girl.
He's warming to the idea now.

>When you ask her out the first time, two clops means yes, one clop means no.
>Remember, if you ride her, it means you're going steady.
>You're both Hellknights? What are you going to do, polish each others armor and compliment her on being a fascist tool?
>Buy her a nice set of horseshoes. Bitches loves horseshoes.
>Does she have a closet full of bit and tackle?
>It's a good thing you have a lance, you're going to need it in the bedroom.
>Being a Hellknight, informed consent is important. Ney means Ney.
>Take her to a nice place like the Eagle's Nest. They have the best hay.
>If you get married, if it bad form for the bride to pull the wedding coach?

As for the in-charectar slassh fiction, the Varisian Swashbuckler, the Human Paladin of Abadar (who is like the Hellknight's sister) and the cocky street urchin NPC came up with a really romantic and cheesy scenerio, thought they never got around to trying to fix them up. They were careful to never bring it up around her, but there were plenty of stifled giggles when Maidrayne asked what was so funny after she asked the Hellknight to see her on some personnel issues after the mission.

She was actually just concerned about his split loyalty between the city and the Hellknights and wanted to be sure he would side with them in any conflict with Ileosa. The players let their imaginations run wild.

Continuing work on a "Spellbinding" Discipline that would allow most anyone to become a discount spellblade, albeit with a very limited spell selection (one spell per stance, of a level no higher than that stance, and you must be in its associated stance to cast it, and you can recover it once an encounter in place of two maneuvers you would normally recover). Here's one of the first level stances:

Shards of the Hippopede

Discipline: Ruby Lemniscate
Level: 1
Initiation Action: Swift
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Stance

Maintaining this stance permits you to channel fragments of knowledge of Arcane masters long since passed by reaching into the Red Dream. You gain a +2 competence bonus to Knowledge (Arcana) and Spellcraft Checks, and may select two cantrips from the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list to cast as a Spell-Like Ability, at will. For every 5 initiator levels you possess, the bonus increases by 2, and you may select one additional cantrip. The cantrips granted by this stance are selected at the beginning of each day, and may not be changed until you have had 8 hours of sleep.

Spellbinding: You gain an enhancement bonus to saving throws against the school of the spell bound to this stance, equal to the number of cantrips the stance grants.

After rescuing the Chernosardo rangers you suddenly find yourself in charge of an army, just in time to find out where the Ironfang Legion is attacking next. They are attacking a mining-and-smelting town in western Nirmathas called Longshadow, and you take your much smaller force of guerillas and plucky PCs, and you basically spend the entire adventure conducting sabotage and harrying this invading force to weaken them as much as possible before an epic battle to save this town from being wiped off the map.

Our group is your opposite in terms of law, we are a bunch of crazy freedom fighters and we already got a reputation of blowing things up like that motherfucking Shrine of Urgathoa.

At this point we are KoS in Korvosa, we are trying to strike a deal with the Hellknights and prove (using their own logic) that the Queen is actually the chaos factor of the city, not us. Hope our sorc manage to not sperg out with then. After this if we manage to remove this layer of security we are going to invade the palace and with the help of a few time bombs and invisible powder kegs in random places we will make a lightning strike and rescue the Guard Captain from the Queen Dungeon

Our group is made of a NG Magus/Swashbuckler, a LN Hellknight and a Paladin of Abadar. They are very a Law and Order party.

The plan is to run several missions tha will garner allies on the Peerage Review to convince them to vote that the Seneschal never vacated his position and rule the new Seneschal assigned by Iliosa out of order, nullifying all of his orders. Then the old Seneschal Neolandus will #1 Order all occupants of the castle not related to the Queen to vacate, #2 Put the Castle under quarantine and #3 assign the players as new members of the Sable Company with legal authority to force anyone refusing to leave the castle ground out with force.

Class I considered balance and allow in a normal game:
Barbarian, Bard, Fighter, UC Monk, Paladin, UC Rogue, Ranger, Alchemist, Cavalier, Inquisitor, Magus, Vigilante, Bloodrager, Brawler, Hunter, Investigator, Skald, Slayer, Warpriest.

This is the normal list of Paizo classes I allow in a campaign.
>>
>>48348723
It is? Neato. Time to look at Minnesota's exports/imports for inspiration, or maybe use a map of it.
>>
>>48348756

Be prepared to make everyone adorably Scandinavian.
>>
>>48348733
For me
Any Psionic class, Any path of war class/archetype that isn't the Zealot or the Mystic, Alchemist, Investigator, and Slayer.

Paizo archetypes get bumped up to full initiating,

Would you play?
>>
>>48348793
No. I dislike initiators honestly. While the system is not inherently bad it has grown worse.

Though... I would at least give it a try. There are tier 1 Psionic classes (class) though.
>>
>>48348837
Erudite?
>>
>>48348837
Psion is only tier 1 with Psychic reformation, which I usually ban along with Plane Shift and Psychoport.
>>
>>48348856
Oh yeah Genesis(and it's derivatives) and Reality Revision(and derivatives) are also out, naturally.
>>
>>48348785
Confirm. Minnesota's like if Canada and Sweden had a child, and gave it up to the USA for adoption.
>>
>>48348856
>banning Plane Shift and Teleport
But why? Those enable adventures that would otherwise be impossible and let you actually do plane-hopping without a gate network (and if there is one, lets you get somewhere you want to go without being forced to gargle the GM's balls).
>>
>>48348911
Because easy long range transport is cancerous to fun adventuring.
>>
>>48348890
Genesis is literally just Create Demiplane, which isn't a problem if you have a talk about what you can actually do with the Timeless trait or just disallow it. Reality Revision is just a weaker version of Wish, which is already unimpressive for its cost but has a few niche uses.
>>
>>48348911
If the DM wants you to go on planehopping adventures, theyll let you. otherwise, it's not like it's some kind of inborn right.
>>
>>48348922
It doesn't play nice with low level adventures that involve objectives like "travel 200 miles". Which you shouldn't be having if you're high enough level to cast teleport, unless your GM thinks guarding caravans and killing progressively stronger goblins is the entire game or something.
>>
>>48348911
I dislike the idea of mass teleportation, and dislike D&D style planar cosmology even more. Going to another dimension should be a big fucking deal.
>>
>>48348955
It kills exploration as an interesting piece of gameplay. I believe it takes some of the magic out, so I disallow it. Do I have players just kill goblins when they travel? No, because that's also boring.
>>
>>48348958
Needing to be one of the strongest people in the world to do personal planar transportation is a big fucking deal.
>>
>>48348958
>Going to another dimension should be a big fucking deal.
This I agree with. It's annoying how much of the worldbuilding seems moot when you can ask "why don't people just plane shift there, it's a 5th-level spell"
>>
>>48348975
Sorry to break it to you, but after 8 levels of them travelogues are fucking boring and all you're accomplishing is making the game worse for your players. Cut that shit out.
>>
>>48348978
9th level is not one of the strongest people in the world in most settings. Sure, you're in the top 1%, but not a major player.
>>
>>48348990
Says fucking you. Do you know the world? Do you know what's in it? Do you know what'll happen? No?

Then pipe down.
>>
>>48348978
>Needing to be one of the strongest people in the world to do personal planar transportation is a big fucking deal.
Not really.

10th level is like "His majesty's royal guard" or accomplished warlord tier in my settings. You need to be punching upwards of 13-15 to be recognized as one of the "strongest".
>>
>>48349000
If your setting has that many people at 9th level your expectations of power are fucked from the outset and you can't be helped.
>>
>>48349024
No, D&D's always been like that. The idea that everyone INCLUDING royalty was super low level was a 3e back peddling and retards trying to consolidate muh lord of the rings with d&d.

Out of curiosity, how viable are whips, /pfg/? Can I do anything cool with them at any point, or would I be dumping all my character resources in exchange for very, very little?

No class or anything in mind, just curious about a potential character concept.
>>
>>48349024
Lets use this as an example.

Population of the world in the year 1700 was around 890 million people. Lets say the formula for what level characters exist is what it is in 3e. In any given population the number of PCs is .012% (going by the chart given). The number of these above level 9? aproximately .1% of those PCs.

so .00019% of the population is level 9 or above. That means in the world there is ~150,000 people level 9 or above.
>>
>>48349057
>or would I be dumping all my character resources in exchange for very, very little?
This. It requires the whole Whip Mastery chain, and a few others like Serpent's lash.

It can be used as a reach alternative for Magi, but not so much other classes.

One anon was recently testing a homebrew Initiating Swashbuckler archetype based on whips, but I think he left for something a while ago
>>
>>48349057
you're better off with other decent reach weapons like the spiked chain and the kusarigama.
>>
>>48348756
In Minnesota there are only two seasons.

Winter, and Road Construction. Either way, getting around is a bitch and a half.
>>
>>48349332

>Canada has four seasons, just like anywhere else
>Early Winter, Winter, Late Winter, and Construction Ahead
>>
>>48349057
Vigilante's Whip of Vengeance talent makes it semi-worthwhile for that class. there's obviously better options, but it's at least a usable choice because of that.

Tl;dr, elves got interesting breeding fantastical creatures - giant eagles, griffons, hippogriffs, pegasi, unicorns etc etc etc.

Then they decided "Hey, shit, we can fight wars with these things". Well in one war, the elven 'master of beasts' (appointed title by royalty, responsible for the husbandry of all these crazy animals), got his life rescued by some derpy plucky human who just wouldn't go down.

Well immediately the elf starts getting some ideas. So he becomes obsessed with breeding the perfect mount for the 'knights' tenacity, and he decides to start with boars.

Well somewhere down the line the elf gets old, and he hands the hereditary title off to his son, who continues the work, and this goes on for about two generations of elves before they decide the boars are 'done'... And then they realise they've completely forgotten about the human that they were going to present with these animals.

So they track down his great great great great great ^nth grandson... who is just some shitty dirt farmer, take him away from his family, raise him as a 'knight' and drop a whole fucking herd of these battle-boars on him.

Suddenly he's elevated to the position of a major landholder, with the mounts for crack cavalry squads, and he has an in for trading with elves. Thus the Order of the Boar is made. He's still not sure what the order should be doing, but fuck if he isn't having fun finding out.

If you already needed Skill Focus (for instance, you're looking to get the Eldritch Heritage line of feats), then instead of spending your bonus feat on it you can get it, plus two MORE Skill Focus feats to put where you want, which might let you qualify for a PrC or just get you to optimize a skill (usually Perception, Spellcraft, or UMD).
