I'm actually going to make another unit of irondrakes. But I want to try something a little different.

I am going to use the ironbreaker heads with the beards on them, and mount the drakeguns over the shoulders, where their right arms hold them up, leaving their left arms free to hold things.

Right now I am cutting the Skaven pages out of the Grand Alliance: Chaos and plan on gluing them back together with a new cover/backpage to have a full fledged AoS Skaven Battletome. I want to say because I don't want to carry the huge Chaos book with me, but I know I simply don't want to have anything to do with the other Chaos factions.

40k player here, I track for conversions and occasiaonal lore curiosity, the Sylvaneth/Dryads stuff is going to be great for converting necrons, the bark textures and branches are som metal paint and snipping away from being wild necrodermis, and all the sprites can add variety to the scarab swarms, the New Drycha is a dead ringer for the c'tan shard of the endless swarm

Loving the idea so far. The Libby looks great and kudos for taking the starter set dude and giving him an upgrade set shield, I bet that took a fuckload of work to not look out of place.

And the base is absolutely perfect, it looks disgustingly wet and muddy.

Very few units have more than one banner or musician/icon though. and since you pick who dies it's near pointless to have more than one of the same. But yes you can.

Untrue. Sometimes your opponent pincers you in a way that the most beneficial model for you to remove as casualty turns out to be your standard bearer. If you had a spare, you could take that model away and keep the bonus. This is however, exceedingly rare and tends to be proof that you screwed up your movement, but it CAN happen
>>
>>48247107
The second GW releases a model/spell/batallion that allows a player to snipe certain models it would be the smartest to have everyon carry a banner/instrument.

Since he also has the 'assassin' keyword you can shove him into the Eshin clawpack too.

I was expecting points to fix this admittedly minor issue, but unless you really cannot squeeze out 20 pts to spare or your lgs bans named characters you'll never take an Assassin over Snikch Unless you really want 2 assassin's in your force.

You know, he's also 0-1, which compensates a bit. Yes, he's way better for his points, but you can never have more than 1. I find that a vast step up from WHFB where special characters used to be 0-1 AND overcosted. Similarly, Ikit is infinitely better than a normal Warplock for 40 points more and Skrolk is infinitely better than a normal Plague Priest for 20 points more.

There are technically a few, like a Stardrake nomming models, but frankly if you're in melee with a Stardrake, you quite literally have bigger things to worry about than keeping your musician safe

Just because everything tends to be in blocks of 100, it can sort of be difficult to find anywhere fit in 20 points.

I'm thinking of starting a Sylvaneth army of some sort, any advice for a complete noob?
>>
>>48247808
Who plays sub-factions? Seriously, especially Chaos. Devoting yourself to a God without specifying Mortal or Daemon has absolutely zero bonus and taking Mortal into it only helps Nurgle (Blightkings) and Daemon helps nobody unless you for some reason want to run an all-Flesh Hound army, so you might as well take all of Chaos, at which point the Chimera fits again. Want an old-school WoC army? Sure, the Chimera fits in there as well, you just can't run all-cav plus Chimera.

Although, the Chimera is imo way overcosted. I mean yes, it's absolutely devastating with a ridiculous damage output, but it's also fragile as hell with its 5+ Save. And all of that for slightly MORE than a Mutalith.

Treelord Ancients and Spirits of Durthu are amazing. Taking at least one is basically mandatory.
Dryads are your rank and file. Field them in units of 20 and they'll put in a lot of work.
Drycha is way undercosted and a absolute blender if used right.
Wyldwoods are your best friends. Have at least two ready to deploy. Your army revolves around them and loves them, because the Wyldwoods love your army.

Just wondering, what is it that the ironjawz battle tome and all the tomes previous to the newest sylvaneth one are missing compared to the latest and ones to come?

I understand they are already now "behind" on the rules in some regard to books after the GHB? I stopped playing 40k many moons ago after buying a codex right before a new edition of the game came out and for my army to not recieve any kind of update for fucking years, i don't want that to happen again, unless its not that big of a deal?

Why can't games workshop structure there releases better.

GW is the most incompetent band of fuckwits running a company you'll ever see.

What's missing is 'Warlord traits', Something that will basically be Chapter tactics, magic items, a faction bonus making dedication worth while, and supposedly 6 unique spells.
>>
>>48248149

>>
>>48248104
Basically, the new Sylvaneth book sets a new standard for care put into a product and goes a long way to adress issues the community had with certain aspects of the game.
Basically, the Sylvaneth are the first faction with their own relics, traits and spells to make the heroes more into *your dudes*, some special force arrangement in the form of Wargroves (which have been compared to Space Marine Chapter Tactics) that affect your playstyle and a few other matters.
Forces released until now didn't have them, so some feel a little left out. To be honest, my Stormcast and Brets don't mind. Stormcast have no spellcasters in the first place, brets don't need any other spells (and will never get their own, obviously) and the general relics and traits found in the General's Handbook are pretty much perfect for them, so no loss there.
>>
>>48248149

This.

There's essentially zero reason outside formations to take Judicators instead of free guild handgunners or crossbow men. I get 30 handgunners or crossbowmen for less than the cost of 10 judicators.
>>
>>48248239

I see, so the generals handbook comes with some default relics for any army to take (more specifically ironjawz)? Sorry if thats obvious i am only just now looking into collecting again.
>>
>>48248216
I'd recommend you wait a bit befire committing. Get a few models done, play a few games, that sort of thing. Once you got a feel for the actual proceedings on the table you can look more objectively into those wargroves.
And don't start with Alarielle. She's so outrageously powerful that she quickly becomes a crutch for beginners. I've seen it happen with Nagash and it's pretty annoying to wean a player off of that.
>>
>>48248352
Got it. Get a blob of Dryads, a Treelord Ancient or Drycha Hamadreth (a great model, caught my interest in WD) and see what works.

>>
>>48248320
The GBH has six relics and six command traits for each of the four big factions on top of a factional bonus for sticking to yours.
Now, here's where it gets tricky. To get those relics/traits (one of each for your army by default), you need to have *allegiance* to your Grand Alliance, i.e. Destruction in your case. That, however, means that your force cannot be Ironjawz allegiance at the same time, since you only get on allegiance at any time. This means, if Ironjawz have any units that become Battleline on the condition that you have Ironjawz allegiance, you are out of luck and need to bring baseline Batteline units.
(That said, I don't know if Ironjawz have conditional Battleline units, but I'd expect so.)

The griffon is striaght-up a better brawler than the stardrake and the general is not much behind the celestant either, trading one range and to wound for a rend. Meanwhile, the griffon can ignore both sources of mortal wounds in melee and the ranged source barely affects it.

I was going to say, drop the warlord and spend the points on perhaps an Assassin or weapon team. Not the Warpfire thrower it's kind of shit.

Other than that, yeah looks pretty standard generic troop army, nothing special and yet no huge flaws

Battleshock will start to fuck over those clanrats and even Vermin, i'd take advantage of the Grey Seer's command trait to keep everyone around.

Your plan will be to keep him safe and Mystic shield up on the Verminlord and/or Stormvermin..

no, he doesn't, he uses a different scheme for the armor, unfortunately
>>
>>48253433
Sure, but the issue was them fighting one-on-one.
For a guy that is literally half the points and even less in actual cash the General is a powerful brawler that can wreck the Lord-Celestant, mostly on account of the Gryphon being a stronger melee option than the Stardrake (who's more of a horde mulcher). Against the Rend-2 of two of the General's three melee profiles the Celestant has a 5+, rerolling 1s and 3 more wounds while the General has a straight 4+ against anything his foe has, so they're fairly even on the defense, too.
If either use their Command Ability on themselves it becomes even more pronounced.

I have no idea how you see that as a sign of incompetence on anyone but Archaon's part.
I rather think its a sign of incompetence that the supposed greatest tactician can fail so dramatically to estimate what forces are necessary to win the day on each battlefield other than the one he attacked personally.
All of this makes him look like nothing but a dumb sledgehammer.
>>
>>48255220
>>48255166
Archaon after defeating the attack on the Allgate in Chamon rushed into the portal to the Allpoint Nexus. He is heading over to protect what remained of the Allgates in Chaos's grasp.

Death, Light, and Shadow Allgates are currently in danger. Which Allgate do you think Archaon will choose to defend personally?
>>
>>48246946
Why not use mediafire or MEGA? Those two are far more legitimate.
>>
>>48255313
>I have no idea how you see that as a sign of incompetence on anyone but Archaon's part.

The Gaunt Summoners have been plotting and rebelling against Archaon since their enslavement. He has punished them many times already. They are too useful for him despite their shiftiness. They just cannot get it through their bunny shaped heads that they cannot be free from Archaon no matter how hard they try.

>I rather think its a sign of incompetence that the supposed greatest tactician can fail so dramatically to estimate what forces are necessary to win the day on each battlefield other than the one he attacked personally.

Unforeseen outcomes. Dragonbro's intervention, the Skaven sudden betrayal, Gordrakk's Waaaaagh! outta nowhere. All of which were outside his control. The Chaos Allgate were defended by plenty of forces and they had reinforcements a plenty from Varanspire. The problem there wasn't in the power or numbers deployed there. The faults were in the commanders in charge of the defense.
>>
>>48255313
I was going a different direction with that post originally and meant to take out the gaunt summoners. It's even worst on his part that he literally walked in on one of them trying to betray him and doesn't think the other 8 would try something as well. IIRC he didn't actually kill that gaunt summoner but just banished him somewhere awful. He's still out there and knows Archaons Name and greatest weakness.
>>48255331
Death. Nagash is marshaling his hosts for an all out attack, and only Archaon would be able to stop him. Of all the gods, he probably finds nagash to be the biggest threat since he's actually revealed himself.
>>
>>48255337
Because both of those require you to make an account while sendspace doesn't. Whoever made the link was probably just lazy.
>>
>>48255375
>He's still out there and knows Archaons Name and greatest weakness.

First of all, Whisperfane is the Silver Tower or a Silver Tower.

Second, Archaon stated he gives no fucks if the Gaunt Summoner knew his true name. He is not a daemon prince. That name means nothing to him. Heck, the gods, Be'lakor, all the gods of Order know his true name. It's not really a secret to anyone but newfags in the setting.

Third, the Watcher King is now free. He reunited with the other nine.

>Death. Nagash is marshaling his hosts for an all out attack, and only Archaon would be able to stop him. Of all the gods, he probably finds nagash to be the biggest threat since he's actually revealed himself.

The Everqueen also revealed herself, dude. She is way more active that Nagash.

The Eye of Sheerin gives shows him the near future. Just a few moments into the future. It's useful in duels but useless for planning battle tactics or long term planning.

There are rare cases when the Eye showed him the far future but that only happens during momentous moments,

Archaon relies of The Gaunt Summoners and the Oracle of the Vault for sight into the Far-future. Surprise, surprise, they all advised him to protect the Allgate in Chamon first.

over the weekend I did some storage unit diving looking for some old stuff, and more of my 6E fantasy army was intact than I expected.

what should I know if I want to use old high elf units in current AoS? (for pitched)

I've read through the rules, and looked at the general's handbook stuff, but having not played any fantasy in well over a decade I have no points of comparison to judge anything.

pic related is what I have pulled out of storage, I think everything should be correct, I dug through the various warscrolls trying to figure out what units got new names, and am a little annoyed the shift seems to have left me with no good generic generals that affect highborn except the sea helm or a prince on gryphon (which I don't have)

more like overly arrogant. he thought he could face Archaon without Sigmars help, but Archaon still had to deal with him personally in each of his defeats. Actually, Nurgle propositioned Archaon for Ghyran and the right to defend the allgate. Archaon granted this, and Nurgle assigned his greatest champions the Glottkin to defend the Allgate.

He is not their nanny. Archaon told Nurgle to tell the Glottkin that the Everqueen and Stormcast were coming to the Allgate. They were informed and they prepared the defense and gathered their allies.

Among the Chaos Generals leading the defense of the Allgate was a talented Plague Sorcerer who was working on a powerful plague spell. The plague spell happens to be one of the ingredients for one of the Great Skaven Plagues. So the Skaven betrayed their Chaos allies and attacked he sorcerer defensive fort and then captured him. After that was done, most Skaven escaped the battle and returned to Skavenblight with his prize.

Archaon knows the Skaven are untrustworthy but he finds them useful and he has used them in the past. In fact, he has Skaven daemons and commanders in his direct employ. Allying with the Skaven is not an inherently a bad idea. It's up for the commander to keep a watchful eye on them. This goes without saying. It's common knowledge. I mean It's Chaos we are talking about. Betrayals are abound.

Otto was overconfident and ignored Edrac's bellyaching about the Skaven coming betrayal. He ignored common sense. Otto's failure is not Archaon's.

>If your store is in the USA or Canada, your Battle is for the Living City. On mainland Europe, results will count towards claiming the Phoenicium. If you live in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Asia or in any country not already mentioned, your battleground is the Greywater Fastness.

Pretty neat, means we should be able to see what grand alliance is the most popular in each region.

is interesting. I guess that's to stop people pumping their results into certain locations as happened in previous campaigns.
>>
>How will you ensure the results are reported fairly?

>All results are reported, in person, through an official participating store and all results are checked to make sure no mistakes have been made. Obviously, we can’t send an official adjudicator to every one of the thousands of games taking place across the campaign, so it is up to you to report your results honestly. Remember, Sigmar is watching, and takes a dim view on cheaters, who will be struck down with heavenly bolts of Azyr-lightning (probably).

How many of you guys will be eligible to be thinderstruck during this whole campaign

But it is. And Archaon keeping Skaven around is clearly also a failure as demonstrated by their treachery. Chaos being chaos is not an excuse. How many times have Nurgle forces backstabbed other Nurgle forces? That's right they are actually reliable when Skaven are out.

>But it is. And Archaon keeping Skaven around is clearly also a failure as demonstrated by their treachery.

He has no choice in the matter because the Horned Rat was promoted to the Great Horned Rat and was invited in to the Great Pantheon of Chaos by the Three (formerly the Four but now Four again). So Skaven being around is the fault of the upper management. Archaon just has to deal with the reality that the Chaos Gods created when they made the Skaven an official part of the Chaos group.

>How many times have Nurgle forces backstabbed other Nurgle forces?

Plenty. The Call of Archaon has one example and during the chase for the Everqueen there have been a stiff rivalry between various Nurglite leaders over who gets to capture the Everqueen.

The Chaos Gods have been trying for untold thousands of years to send their champions to outsmart or outfight Archaon. All ended in failure. Archaon is as good as it gets and he is more than than the forces of Order can handle.

The fluff says that the Three view Great Horned Rat as a weakling lesser who is not their equal in any way. He uses their disregard for him to plot behind their backs for next stage of Ascendancy.

Anyways, I just remembered something. The reason Skaven are all over Ghyran is because Nurgle allied himself with the Great Horned Rat. Forming an uneasy alliance between their both armies in order to spread disease and entropy over Ghyran and all other realms.

Archaon conquered Ghyran and handed it to Nurgle to run and manage. When Nurgle invited the rats inside and put them in key positions, then it's his fault and not Archaon's.

Can someone tell me the point of having an ability that lets you pile in 6"? For instance, the Chaos Lord on Manticore can do so if it takes Khorne. But, if you're already in combat (and therefore within 3" of an enemy) and have to pile in towards the nearest model, what does that extra distance do for you?
>>
>>48256858
I haven't come across it in any games, but my first assumption is that it just doubles the range at which you're considered "in combat" and can pile in.

It doesn't. You still need to be within 3" to count as being in combat.

Bonesplitters are the result of Gorkamorka entering the head of an orruk and refusing to leave afterwards.

Presenting in teeny-tine eye-strain'o'vision: Bonesplitterz allegiance boni and general traits.

Allegiance bonus for Bonesplitterz
>Warpaint
Save rolls of 6 (before any modifiers) are always successful, regardless of other special rules. In addition, if you suffer a mortal wound, roll a d6. On a 6+ you can ignore the mortal wound.
>Monster Hunter
After killing a Monster in melee, the responsible unit does not have to take battleshock tests until your next hero phase. In addition, roll a d6 for every unit before piling in if there's a Monster within 3" of that unit. Consult the following chart:
1-2 The unit can pile in up to 6".
3-4 The unit can reroll failed to wound rolls when attacking Monsters.
5-6 Each wound roll of 6 causes a Mortal Wound in addition to all other damage when attacking a Monster.

General Traits for Bonesplitterz
>Weird Warpaint
The general ignores mortal wounds on a 4+
>Prophet of Waagh
all Bonesplitterz can reroll failed battleshock tests
>Big Hunter
If the general kills a Monster he can immideatly pile in and attack again
>Killa Instincts
Your general's wound rollls of 6 give the weapon Rend -3.
>Waagh Hero
Bonesplitterz within 10" add +1 to their charge rolls.
>Monstrosity
The general may pick his results on the Monster Hunter chart.
>>
>>48257036
Finally a non-Tomb Kings faction that can deal with the seraphon monster spam

>Teef Rukk
2-5 Big Stabbaz
During your hero phase, pick an enemy Monster. All Big Stabbaz in this formation may instantly pile in up to 6" and attack as if it was the melee phase. This does not limit their ability to attack again during the melee phase.

>Bonegrinz Warclan
Big many boyz: Whenever a unit of Savage Orruks, Savage Arrowboys or Big Stabbaz is completly wiped out for any reason, roll a d6. On a 6 you immideatly set up that unit within 6" of any table edge and at least9" away from any enemy.
>Beastslayers
Add+1 to the Bravery of all Bonesplitterz the first time a Monster is killed during the battle.
>New General Trait
"Bring it down, boyz!" The general and all Bonesplitterz within 12" may always choose their result on the Monster Hunter chart.

hey Sigfags, i am new here... ima 40gay refugee.. loving AoS so far, but the one thing ive noticed is... Sigmarines are boring. I mean they look cool and all but in the fluff do they even have personalities or are they just organic robots??

sigmarines have a lot of personality in all the books so far

chaos recruits from mortals living in the realms.

there was a story where stormcast visit a chaos-worshipping village and they ask the villagers why they worship chaos instead of sigmar, and they reply along the lines of "we prayed to sigmar for generations but never got a response. we worship the dark gods because we need their strength to survive"
>>
Okay, so how many models are likely in a 1000 and 2000 point game? Just spitballing.
>>
>>48257198

The Wardokks are the crazy Advisoers and Heralds of the great Wurrzog Prphets
Any great leader needs lieutnants and for the Wurrgog Prophets the Wardokks fulfil that duty. These frothing acolytes lead mobs of Morboys and conduct rituals to channel the great Waagh spirit in order to strengthen the Wurrgog Prphets. Since it's not a rare occurence for the prophets to explode violently from an overdose of Waagh, the Wardokk are eager to take their place.
>>
>>48257211
Depends on the faction.

My experience has been that 1000pt is more of a skirmish with 4-6 units on each side.

2000pt is more like 8-12 units per side, enabling more combos and giving the game more strategic depth
>>
>>48257209
oh wow, thats neat. how come all the models have helmets?? its like we cant see your faces on purpose
>>
>>48257184
The rules never actually give any clarification what counts as 'named characters', besides that Alarielle, Nagash and Archaon are ones.
The new spirit of durthu doesn't have the 'can only have one per army' limit so most people think he doesn't count as a named character.
>>
>>48257220
Sigmarines are each great heroes taken just before their heroic deaths and spirited away to Azyr for the Reforging. Otherwise the comparison is actually kinda apt, since there's this enormous arena in Azyrheim where the Stormcast train relentlessly.
>>
>>48257165
>do they even have personalities

Yes.

>Also, where does chaos recruit soldiers?

The peoples of the multiverse, or daemons being felt into being.
>>
Anon with german WD, can you confirm that there no new book from BL in it, please?
>>
>>48257236
Stormcast wear helmets in the image of Sigmar for two main reasons:

1. To inspire other mortal races with the glorious image of the god king
2. It is unnerving as fuck for Chaos to fight an enemy that shows no emotion.

>>48257240
Durthu with artefacts is blatantly overpowered. He is already the best melee fighter in the game, he doesn't need more attacks/rend.
>>
>>48257234

>Depends on the faction

Well yeah, but that's always gonna be the case.

Assuming not an extreme horde faction nor intentionally trying to minimise model count, basically. A rough estimate.
>>
>>48257236
>its like we cant see your faces on purpose
Because we can't see their faces on purpose. The idea is that the masks represent the different aspects of Sigmar. On top of that, the expressionless nature and their fighting style apparently tends to freak out foloowers of chaos on account of being very eerie.
>>
>>48257254

Given that Chaos are experienced with all kinds of horror, that'd pretty clearly have the opposite effect. Chaos not giving a fuck, and their own allies unnerved by faceless statue men.

Chaos thrives in the extremes of emotion. All 4 chaos gods are fueled by mortal emotion taken to extremes.

A berserker is thrilled to see either terror or resolve in the face of the foe they are charging... but a stormcast does not show anything. They are a tide of mini Sigmars that are not only holding their ground, but also pushing back.

It's a significant improvement, since it speeds up the pre-game discussion and does away with most of the rather wonky methods of balance commonly used, i.e. counting wounds or warscrolls).
But I've been in the 'The game needs a point system and fast' camp since the beginning, so I might be biased.
>>
>>48257356
The game was always pretty good but the only problem was getting roughly even matches. We used to spend 30+ minutes before each game deciding on what to use, what my opponent is using, and which battleplan we wanted to play.

The point system cuts that time down tremendously. I can build a list ahead of time and make slight modifications when necessary.

It makes games a lot easier to organize and it makes the game easier to play with random people.

Overall a big improvement.

If you want to do skeletons, go with the skeletons and clear the zombies?

- 1 Liberator Prime and 2 Liberators, all with shields and hammers
- 1 Retributor Prime and 1 Retributor
- 1 Blood Warrior hampion and 2 Blood Warriors, all with Goreaxes and Gorefists
- 1 Bloodreaver Chieftain and 4 Bloodreavers.

That's kind of understating it. A general with a hammer will almost double the damage of a star drake celestant without outside buffs.

Grab a necro. You can summon the cairn wraith without it taking a hero slot. Summoning hosts and hexwraiths works fine too, they don't need to start as big units. Neither do zombies and they can combine which is useful - you can do aight with 40 as a base. Skellys are cool too, but can't combine - maybe a unit of 20-30 can be useful to you or two units of 20 if you go that route. Graveguard are highly recommended, especially with wight king necro and corpse cart.

Cairn wraith will do some good killing using skellys and zombies as wound protection. Your spirit hosts do pretty good output too. A necro would also get some nice bonuses from mortis and cart, in one cast you might be putting down 20 zombies fairly easily. Gg are really solid, your main killers I think, but do best starting out as a unit of 20 or more, summoning a few here and there isn't as useful as say a cairn wraith.

So necro to summon and van hels your gg into kill mode, all your other stuff is pretty autonomous, mortis will need support, zombies are good meat shields - later on you might use 60-80. Wight king is great with skellys and gg, go necro 20 zombies 20 gg and go from there, and another 10 skellys if you want and see how you like how the elements play.

will anyone care if I use my empire cannon as an ironweld cannon? It'll be weird having the Duardin keyword on humans but maybe they were raised amongst dwarves...

And I don't mean to talk you out of skellys. They rock. The zombie models kind of suck but I convert using random stuff.. Ghoul and skaven arms.. maruder weapons.. Bloodreaver and cultists bodies, bret footmen...etc

I'm a big fan of skellies but 20-50 graveguard are pretty solid with some wightkings ( as far as spooky presence and strength) and if I didn't convert zombies I would go bare bones as personal pref.

Currently sitting on more than 60 unbuilt base skellys.

That would work. 1 dwarf with 2 human crew. Make sure it looks like he's pointing or yelling and the humans are frantically working, not used to the stern perfection their dwarf leader constantly demands.

But for the cannon you will need to at least paint some runes on it, for the rune accuracy

Is the Start Collecting: pestilens box the best deal GW ever released? If you do just a tiny bit of conversion and get yourself a few bases you get:

>catapult/cannon
>furnace
>20 monks
>plague priest
>grey seer
>packmaster
>16 giant rats
>1 rat ogre

So far, I've got:
16 Warriors of Chaos
1 Exalted Hero of Chaos
1 Sorcer(ess) lord of Chaos

On the way. I am thinking about, however, buying the half regimemt of Chaos Knights from a friend. That's 5 knights; should I go for it?

He's selling them to me about 24 dollars, along with 12 Warriors of chaos. To be up front about it, he's basically scalping a couple Start Collecting box sets, and selling them with a mark up. Im tempted though, to just buy a SC myself off ebay
