Jump 82: Blame!
>Ace of Wands (An opportunity to be met with boldness, vigor, and enthusiasm.)
>Location: The Capitol
>Identity: Silicon Life
Definitely going to have to use Be Not Afraid to make sure people don't just kill me right out of the gate. That is such a useful perk.
>Major Arcana: The Lovers (+100), The Star (+100)
>Scenario: Beyond the Bounds (+200)
>Technological Expert (1300)
There's all kinds of crazy stuff around here. Knowing what it is and how to use it is critical.
>Malleable Form (Free, Silicon Life)
Hopefully I can HIDE devices integrated into me with the appropriate application of this.
>Resilience (1200, Silicon Life)
Depending on how we define alternate forms... I may have a whole awful lot of them.
>Adaptation (900, Silicon Life)
Ah! And this is how we use Malleable Form to make sure that integrated things aren't making me look like some kind of Frankenstein.
>Blam Blam Blam! (800)
Pulling my punches, no matter what I use to throw them? Like say... guns? Useful.
>Selective Disintegration (600)
And doubly useful when I can target my attacks to deal with my enemies without badly hurting them, for certain situations.
>Sense of Scale (400)
This should work nicely alongside Superscale Skills, don't you think?
>Silicon Staff (0)
It's not a graviton beam emitter, but it appears to have that functionality over short range if I'm looking at this thing right, and I have another staff that I can merge this with to work nicely. As long as I'm not trying to shoot something in orbit, I imagine this would be incredibly useful.
>>
>>48083536
>Scenario Rewards: 6,400MB
Yes, I put Yion out of her misery. She desired death. Sometimes... a hard decision to make can be the right one.
>Autograft (512MB)
This should augment my other Silicon Life abilities nicely.
>SSB (512MB)
Touch the untouchable, break the unbreakable...!
>STO (512MB)
A defense that conceals my weaknesses? Hm. I like it!
>AIC Field (512MB)
I can think of a great many situations where this will be useful against AI in the future.
>Worm (512MB)
Scrambling someone's thoughts seems like it would be basically like giving them ADHD temporarily. Except cranked up to eleven. Yes please.
>Latency (768MB)
And making someone bluescreen and keel over is even better!
>ping32 (768MB)
And scrambling their senses is EVEN BETTER!
I'm going to have to make a note to use all three of these at once on people who annoy me.
>Recompilation (B) (1024MB)
>Recompilation (W) (1024MB)
Both needed things for this world. Maybe as a result, things will start getting better.

I kind of don't want to talk too much about this jump. So much potential, but this place is just... way too screwed up.

I wanted to save Yion and she wanted to die. I'm going to be unhappy about that for a while.
>>
>>48083536
Don't blame yourself.
>>
And two for the price of one because I was waiting for the thread to not be in autosage before I posted builds.

Jump 83: BlazBlue
>Four of Pentacles (Living in a cloud of suspicion and prejudice.)
>Age: 25
>Location: Ibukido
>Identity: Drop-In
>Drawbacks: Gag Reel, Mooch (+50)
>Stylish Mode (Free, drop-in)
>Human GPS (900, drop-in)
>Observer (600, drop-in)
>Mage (0)

I'm not a fan of this setting to be honest, but I rolled it, so I jumped it. Gag Reel is the only thing that makes it tolerable but I'm not staying here one second longer than necessary.
>>
Out of curiosity, do we get our Necron "Father" from LoT as a companion? I kind of want to import him into the Necron jump, when and if that happens, so I can be his actual son. I just...feel bad deceiving him, and he's just so pitiable I can't abandon him.
>>
So how does Discordia Cannon from Sailor Moon work in jumps that don't take place on earth? Does the castle just appear nearby/can it be relocated?
>>
From Light of Terra:

"The Rewards of Heresy

There are a great many things you can obtain here. Your immortal, eternal soul is a small price to pay for such things, is it not?"

I know that being a psyker makes you more attractive to the warp, but does gaining psyker status in this jump literally require me to relinquish my soul?
>>
>>48083560
Nope, unfortunately not.

Man, a necron jump would be totally tits though.
>>
>>48083565
It's probably just fluff. Most everyone ignores it anyway.
>>
>>48083557
I can't help but blame myself though. But how do you save someone who's been through all of that? When death is the greatest mercy that can be granted to them?

Jumpers, how did you choose to deal with HYDRA in the MCU?
>>
>>48083573
Aw, that's too bad. He's like this old man who's still living a life that ended long ago, constantly waging war, and all he wants to do is see his son again. I'm half tempted to come back post-Spark and not only help him, but give him his son back, maybe with a happier, non-death filled life this time.

Thanks for the update. I can't wait to give Firewall paranoid nightmares with my borderline-exurgent biology and pick through the TITANs' garbage.

It's hard to give specific suggestions because I'm not sure what's in or not, but if it were me making it, I wouldn't put too much into Morphs, Augments or Gear, at least as far as CP options go. While Jumpers can get around the whole "You can't take it with you" issue, most EP stuff is disposable by design. Provide what's needed to get by in a location and/or profession, maybe give a few examples of the techbase, and let the jumper handle their own acquisition from there.

...I mean, unless you're fluffing those portions as including perfectly smuggleable nanofab blueprints. That might be worth CP.

So, RWBY question here. Apparently, Aura/Semblances come from the soul, right? So would a stronger soul produce a stronger Aura/Semblance? Like, if I had Strong Soul from Soul Eater or a human SOUL from Undertale.

That's probably because their careers DO depend on it. Marvel's been treading very dangerously over the last year or two and their subscription numbers have plummeted as a result. They're pandering to a demographic that does not buy comic books, and alienating the demographic that DOES buy comic books.

Off had you'd probably have a stronger over all semblance (stronger in so much as over all effect, like if you had Pyrrah's magnetics, it'd either be a stronger pull or wider field) or, if nothing else, more Aura/whatever fuels Semblances to pull on.

You know what honestly annoys me about this shit? It's not the replacing of characters who have been around for decades, though that does annoy me. It's not the obvious pandering to people who don't even read or like comics, though that does annoy me. It's not even the hamfisted way they shove it in your face, though that does annoy me.

It's that almost every single one of these fucking characters, is a terrible fucking character. Or is boring as all hell. Miles Morals is the easiest one to point to. Fucker has been Spiderman for years at this point. But every fucking storyline is "I can't live up to peter parker" shit goes down "I CAN live up to peter parker". The exact same shit again and again and a-fucking-gain. MOVE THE FUCK ON!

>>
>>48084105
To be fair it's not like they don't also reduce established characters to 2d stereotypes at times because they can't be bothered to write a dynamic character. Admittedly it's easier to do with new ones who don't have established traits yet though.
>>
>>48084093
I think Drop In for Street Sharks has one that makes you immune to genetic manipulation.
>>
>>48083942
>Enhanced Senses: Your sense of smell, sight and hearing are enhanced to near supernatural levels. You can detect extremely faint scent trails to track people, hear an arrow coming at you from the other side of a forest clearing and see with 20/10 vision.
>Enhanced Stamina: You're able to keep going for long periods of time, you could climb a mountain with hardly any rest, or fight off an opponent for hours without tiring.
>Enhanced Strength: You could lift man-sized rocks or punch through thin layers of metal with your incredible strength.
>Enhanced Speed: Your natural movement speeds are enhanced and you can Sprint at about 20 mph.
>Indomitable Will: No matter what happens, no matter what misfortunes you suffer, you'll always be able to find a way to carry on and complete your goals. You can endure excessive amounts psychological stress, shrug off depression, and overcome negative emotions like anger or sadness.
These are not low-powered. They grant you pretty much all the same peak human feats Jack and a few other character's displayed.

>Jack did stuff like jump into the upper atmosphere with a huge-ass boulder on his back

See Enhanced Agility
>Jump good, you can propel yourself up to 50ft in the air and gain better control over your own body.

Granted this isn't as impressive as Jack, and the original description was more vague, but it's still very generous and you could try to find the guy who taught jack how to jump like that in the first place. Or maybe see if Jack himself will train you.

>kill several skilled bounty hunter in the time a drop of water could fall a few inches.

First, that was mostly skill and experience from who know how many ambushes. Second;
>Enhanced Reflexes: You can react so fast that time will seem to slow down a bit, giving you a few extra seconds to think of your next move.
>>
>>48084131
True, but at least some of the characters being replaced, like Peter Parker, are LIKEABLE 2d sterotypes. When Spidy gets made a Sterotype he's usually just "Well meaning guy, who wise cracks". Which is at least LIKEABLE. More likeable that "Why can't I like up to peter parker's legacy?"
>>
>>48084131
Comics are garbage.

I wish I could express that opinion without coming off as some random asshat. But while I enjoy the character concepts and individual cherry picked stories might be good, comics on the whole are garbage and don't know what they're doing.
You're better off just being casual and waiting for movies and TV stuff.
>>
>>48084193
>You're better off just being casual and waiting for movies and TV stuff.
You're not wrong. But I would recommend reading the Good Storylines as well.
>>
>>48084149
Eh, they just don't seem that impressive and are very vague the way they're written. If they can explicitly be trained up to the higher levels though, then that satisfies me.

20 mph sprinting speed isn't near as impressive as the shit Jack pulls off, and not even that good for peak human.

It is! It really is. People make fun of fanfic writers, but what else would you call someone who read Batman comics as a kid, then went on write Batman comics as an adult?
>>
>>48084264
The civilized spots are kindof cyberpunk with magic? Lots of guns and swords. Aku's presence as leader has caused a lot of barely disguised anarchy. There's not really any government besides "Aku is in charge."

So it depends. How effective are you at fighting off hordes of nameless mooks and bounty hunters with guns and swords?
If your answer is, "That sounds like a free meal", you're fine. If on the other hand you thought, "That sounds scary!", maybe swing by some other jumps first and pick up skills first.

The world is full of slavers, crazy bounty hunters, killer robots and bloodthirsty monsters. Aku has his eyes on the entire world, a lot of places are stuck with tech from the middle ages, and being a skilled fighter doesn't always guarantee your survival.

But! Aku is an idiot and countless normal people have been shown living safe, and sometimes even happy lives in the world's larger or more peaceful settlements. And a lot of people without superhuman capabilities have been able to survive or even prosper.

So it's only really dangerous if you don't have any survival skills, combat experience, or powerful equipment.

I'm glad you agree.

The Moon Arcana is really fucked over for good choices and it sucks.
>>
>>48084647
This is what happened in summery, it is spoiler as fuck though.

She is the center of the universe to the MC who is equal parts badass and crippled puppy pitiable because she is the only one to ever visit the empty cave he was trapped in.

When she got the chance to climb the tower she abandoned him to live there alone forever.

When he entered the tower himself and found her she hid from him and tried to avoid any contact at all, knowing that all he wanted in life was to see his only friend.

When she was injured an unable to continue he risked his life taking an extremely dangerous test to let her keep climbing the tower, because that is what she wanted and she was still important to him despite leaving him alone in the cave.

During the test after he saved her from a monster she threw him away to die since he had already killed the monster for her.

After passing the test and killing him she then conned all the friends he had made into helping her climb the tower, "to honor his memory".

She actually manages to get worse later on.

So, looking at the Tower of God jump (because this discussion piqued my interest), does A Monster's Strength affect out-of-jump mystical abilities too, or just the Tower of God ones?
>>
>>48085301
I think Tower of gods ones but I am not sure I need to read the perk.
>>
>>48085301
It should work for out of setting stuff, it doesn't say otherwise and there is nothing in it to imply that it is shinsoo only.
>>
>Rachel
Is there any justification given for why she acts the way she does? In narrative, does she give some kind of story or dialogue or monologue where she explains why she's acting this way?

I legit cannot understand this character as you're describing her.
>>
>>48085301
The fact that is says raw mystical abilities and not shinsoo implies that it works on out of setting abilities. Not quite sure what 'raw' implies though.
>>
>>48085333
No. She's just psychotic, petty, and really incredibly double ultra jealous of others. Because even she knows she's shit.
>>
>>48085333
Basically the tower is her chance to fulfill her dreams, when Baam follows her and thrives in a world that she can't hope to compete in. . .

Jealousy is ugly, horrifyingly ugly in this case.
>>
>>48085382
She's also an irregular isn't she?

>>48085382
>Jealousy
Got it. Makes more sense now. She's still horrible, but at least I understand the motivation.
>>
>>48085394
Sort of, she sucks though. He is mentioned to be weak in comparison to other irregulars because his talents were hidden at first but she has no talents at all and is only able to climb by manipulating others.

There is alsoa fan theory that Baam opened the door to the tower and she just hitched a ride.
>>
>>48085301
On a related note, if you take both that and A King's Chosen, exactly how powerful does that make you?
>>
>>48083876

So which Jump DOES have the best Halflings, anyway?
>>
>>48085454
A Monster's Strength is supposed to make you Baam iirc and A King's Chosen is a Princess of Zahard. So add those together I guess?
>>
>>48085394
The first thing she is told after entering is that she sucks and is unworthy of entering the tower. She wasn't chosen to enter, she just got in because Baam was there and he had the strength to enter the tower from the outside.
>>
>>48085491
Oh, uh, never read the series. Honestly do not t even know what the median power level is supposed to be.

>>
>>48086037

>>
>>48086197
You can only use Real Eater on any given ability once and can only make one change with it.

>>

>>
>>48086186
Probably because Scion is a Big Guy for you.

I wouldn't trust HP magic to do anything like that anyway; it's too fuckin' finicky and has some weird, arbitrary rules.

Other ideas for dealing with the Golden Douche have been:
1. Convince him that the supernatural exists, that he has a soul, and that Eden is waiting for him in the afterlife, where there willl be infinite energy and matter to consume, so he should quietly kill/shut himself down. He's childlike before he goes murder-monster, so it'd be pretty easy to convince him, relatively speaking. This one is probably the least power intensive, relying on your actual supernatural abilities (for show) and a shitload of bluffing.

2. Use some sort of voodoo/hoodoo magic system to use his human body as a voodoo doll for his true form, and kill him through it. I don't remember exactly which system the anon who thought this idea up was planning on using, though.

3. Just do what canon does on an accelerated track: mind control every Tinker to work together to make a fuckhuge gun, then make Flechette/Foil shoot the human form. All while bullying the shit out of him psychically. He drops his guard because of the bullying, then the gun somehow makes his body like a portal to his true form, and Foil shoots him, fucking up his true form on an epic scale.
>>
>>48086352
You mixed up that last one, actually. Foil's power makes his body into a portal (because reasons), and the BFG just fucks him up real good.
>>
>>48086328

Not them, but technically Real Eater doesn't target perks. It targets supernatural abilities.
>>
>>48086352
>convincing him that everything will be better in the afterlife
>not convincing him that it will never get better and the only way to end his pain is to commit suicide
I mean sure you could kind of do both, but if you are going to get someone to commit suicide might as well be an asshole about it.

>>48086395
Scion, like all Entities, and all lifeforms, really, is motivated by continued existence/immortality. Convincing him that things will get better when he shuts down and moves on will hit that part of his instinctual programming for survival, ironically. Telling him that it will only get worse could have… unpredictable results. He might become the worst kind of nihilist, which would definitely be a Bad Thing.

>>48086401
Don't feel bad for him. He and his kind have been using 'lesser' races as disposable guinea pigs for countless eons, across all 10^80 universes of Worm.
He doesn't deserve your pity or mercy.

>>
>>48086352

I have another suggestion for if you can find a way to talk to them.

4. "Look I get your upset that The Thinker died, but doesn't it seem kind of suspicious that she got killed after getting a super precog shard from that other Entity. Why would a shard that useful be given away and then spontaneously malfunction? Unless it didn't. 'Abbadon' probably scammed The Thinker to ruin your cycle. So why should it's get to go interrupted without any retaliation?"

Or in simpler terms manipulate Zion into going to war against Abbadon to deal with both issues.
>>
>>48086474
> He doesn't deserve your pity or mercy.
I didn't say he deserved mercy, but I'll pity whoever I god damn want, anon.

It's like saying "This retarded puppy is part of a race of planet eaters. He will eat your planet. He doesn't really understand why this is wrong or even what right or wrong is, and he's retarded so occasionally he gets scared of his tail because he doesn't realize it's a part of him. Recently his not-retarded cat friend got run over by a car, so he's sad all the time. He doesn't really have good permanence so the only thing he's really capable of comprehending is that his friend is gone. Also, he's going to eat your planet."

I'll pity it because it's a dumbass retard dog that doesn't know any better.
>>
>>48086504
That'd work too, but that still might leave you with at least one Entity waiting after their fight was over, and not only would a fight between Entities be catastrophic for the local area, if Abaddon is the survivor it'll likely know that it was you that snitched on it. And it's an even bigger asshole than Scion and Eden put together.
>>

Pretty sure he'd just interpret the Resurrection Stone as being some trick. He's killed billions upon billions of civilizations and never once saw any evidence of life after death, it would take more than you popping up with Eden's shade to convince him.
>>
>>48086532
For Cauldron Conspirator, there absolutely needs to be a "can figure out the consequences of how you're treating other people" perk somewhere in the tree. Every single damn person in the organization needs that perk.
>>
>>48086560
>Eden's Shade
I'm not STUPID anon. Eden was actually intelligent, intelligent enough to find a way back if I gave her a chance.
But the key is the Charisma perks, and I have more ways of proving an afterlife now than I did then.
Also, never forget, Scion is stupid. Like really fucking stupid.
>>
>>48086532
Man, a Cauldron Conspirator background would be depressing as fuck. With Hero you could at least fluff it as you having recently triggered and therefore not having had a chance to completely and utterly fail at improving the world. A Cauldron Conspirator doesn't have that excuse, to earn their trust you would have had to have been working with them for a while. And accomplished nothing in that time. Okay, that's not entirely fair, they slowed down the destruction of mankind. But they never actually reclaimed ground. It's bleak.
>>
>>48086532
>Passenger Origin
But isn't that a drawback?
>>
>>48086532
For the Passenger origin, I suggest a perk that makes you a master of conflict based experimentation, since that's basically what the Passengers/Shards do.
>>
>>48086595
It was but Worm is toying with the idea of making it it's own Origin. I think it could work.
>>
>>48086583
Then why did you mention the Resurrection Stone, which explicitly can't bring back the dead? It's not really them, it's just a memory. That's why it can only summon people the holder knew.
>>
>>48086595
I'm experimenting with it being an origin, with potentially an option to do it similar to how it is in the original version.

>>48086570
Not a bad idea anon, I'll jot it down in my idea list

>>48086593
That it would, but I guess that's an extra price for being in a position to have Cauldron backing and whatnot right off the bat.

>>48086601
I have several different ways of trying to get that in there, not sure which I'll go with at the moment. Mainly trying to figure out what tier to put it at and how that'll influence the perkline as a whole.
>>
>>48086583
But you are stupid, because Eden's not dead. She's in a permanent vegetative state. So the Resurrection Stone would do nothing.
>>
>>48086532
For the Passenger origin, maybe a perk that improves your rate of scientific discovery the more you're exposed to related types of conflict? So let's say you're an aeronautics engineer, you can learn just by participating in a dog fight. Likewise a particle physicist might learn more by shooting energy weapons.
>>
>>48086625
So how would passenger work? Do they get a fragment of all our powers, a fragment of a certain power set, or a fragment of a power? Because depending on the answer, it might make our host pretty buff.
>>
>>48086616
>It's not really them, it's just a memory.
Wait, what?
The Elder Wand really does enhance a user's magic.
The Cloak really does lasts forever.
But the Stone is just a parlor trick? Fuckin' weaksauce. Fuck Rowling, man.
>>
>>48086610
>>48086625
Fair enough, I was just asking.

>>48086616
Explicitly? When is that made Explicitly clear?
And I mentioned the Stone because it's why I had the idea in the first place.

>>48086627
Incorrect. Wildbow has said she WAS in a Vegetative state, but Cauldron tearing chunks out of her to make their Formulas killed her.
Moreover, even if I'm wrong about that, it doesn't make me stupid. It makes me misinformed.
>>
>>48086616
You're mixing up HPMoR with canon HP. Canonical resurrection stone calls back the actual spirits of the dead.
>>
>>48086532

I had an idea for a potential Passenger perk.

Shard Science - You have an understanding of the principles by which shards function, or more specifically how your shard functions, and a basic rudimentary grasp of basic Entity biology. With time, effort, and proper research you might even be able to translate precious abilities to work along similar principles, or use them to augment your shard. However the further the power is from the principles by which your shard operates the more effort this would take
>>
>>48086570
Wouldn't the sheer lack of people with that skill, in that org, make it invalid for the background?
>>
>>48086616
>>48086641
This is untrue. The canonical version works as it should.

Don't base everything you read on a fanfic written by someone trying to push his point of view at the expense of the story and common sense at the climax.
>>
>>48086532
Maybe a perk that allows you a psuedo Jack shard, like a "spider sense"? Or perhaps a capstone that allows you to sense when shards activate their abilities, like say, sensing when Coil activates his weird time split? Maybe a "Fixer" perk that allows you to sorta "fix" shards slowly, allowing you to help someone like Noelle?
The update's sounding amazing Worm_Anon.
>>
>>48086649
>>48086665
Yeah, I've never read Methods of Rationality. I'm going by what Dumbledore says about it.
>>
>>48086682
Dumbledore Lies.
All the fucking time.
And he has theories like "Love is the power Voldemort has not" and "Voldemort is Evil because his parents didn't love each other"/
>>
>>48086644
No, you're still stupid. Because Scion ISN'T. He'll look at what you're doing, realize "this is an effect that this being is creating that has no basis in the physics of this reality", and then just try to kill you more. Because you're clearly violating entropy, and therefore have the Entities' greatest prize, and therefore you have to die so he can absorb you.
>>
>>48086682
Uh. I would really, REALLY love to know where the hell you read that. The onus is on you to prove your statement, because I sure as shit don't remember a THING about the Stone working like that.
>>
>>48086682
Dumbledore is not a trustworthy source.
>>
>>48086689
>>48086697
Oh, so you're going with the "Dumbledore is a liar and manipulator, and even when he's telling the truth he's incompetent" theory. Yeah, and I'm the one mistaking fanon for canon.
>>
>>48086689
I'm pretty sure Rowling confirmed the second one.
>>
>>48086693
Man, it's three in the morning and I'm too lazy to dig my copy of of the books out of storage. He definitely says that they're just shades, and that the dead can't really be brought back.
>>
Hey, if SpyroAnon is around (or if anyone else knows the answer), could you answer a LoSS question? Specifically clear up some stuff re Convexity?

I was looking at the jump again, and it says both that convexity.can't be combined with other elements from the jump... and that it's basically raw metamagic for any purpose.

Could you kinda elaborate on the whole thing re how it is metamagic, what sorts of metamagic-y things can be done with it? Thanks.
>>
>>48086682
Dumbledore also doesn't believe that it was made by Death.
So for all we know, even if he's telling what he thinks is the truth, he could STILL be full of it.
>>
>>48086714
Well obviously they're shades, because they're dead, but that doesn't mean they're only being brought back because they're the memories of the person summoning them. To accept the other artifacts work as advertised and that one doesn't? That's silly.
>>
>>48086724
Why would it be made by Death? What evidence do we have of that other than an old folktale? I'm inclined to believe the incredibly knowledgable super-wizard over a story told to us by freaking Xenophilius Lovegood.
>>
>>48086704
Consider the following.
Dumbledore explicitly warned Harry against the Mirror Erised because he felt he might get lost in it.
The Stone is, for Harry who wants his Family back, like the Mirror times a thousand.
And Dumbledore is the kind of man to tell white lies to try and help people.

>>48086731
So everything Dumbledore says is true?
>>
>>48086682
Um... could you remind me where Dumbledore says that/what he said? Specifically, where he says that it's just showing you memories rather than recalling the actual spirit of the person in question? It's been quite a while since I've read the books, but I have zero memory of anything like that.
>>
>>48086728
Except that's kind of the big message of Harry Potter. That Death is inevitable and can't be denied, and anything that claims otherwise is a lie that ultimately only causes pain.
>>
>>48086630
Hehehe, hopefully the way I structure their conflict based perks would allow jumpers to do exactly this. The entire areas just a goldmine of neat ideas really.

>>48086636
Currently it's exactly as it worked in the original version. Which means they can get really damn buff yes. Though that doesn't remove the risks of them going mad with power or being dumb with it. Check the current jumps drawbacks for how it works now, it's basically just becoming it's own origin.

>>48086653
Gotta admit I'm kind of iffy on this, since that kind of thing seems sort of wonky when it comes to balancing it right, but I'll keep the idea in mind and see if it might be doable. Can't promise anything.

>>48086670
Also some neat ideas, I'm not sure about "fixing" other shards since it seems more like the result of a power than a perk. Shard sense could be an interesting idea though.

And I'm glad you think so. I'm honestly proud of how the origins turned out so far and how their entire perkline each gives them a special relationship to the setting and whatnot. I'm hoping to get the same feel with the new ones too.

Honestly that's the major thing I try hard to do in all my jumps, otherwise it just feels kind of weird and clunky if the pieces don't come together into a coherent whole.
>>
>>48086742
Yes, and the Stone is part of that. The Dead aren't meant to be of this world, and lingering hurts them. It's why the Second Brother killed himself.
>>
>>48086742
I refuse to believe that's how it works until someone digs out a canon reference that states it plainly.
>>
>>48086739
>So everything Dumbledore says is true?
Aside from the things he told us were lies, yes. I trust Dumbledore.
>>
>>48086532
Passenger
Determine what the limits of other shards or yourself are. Like if your Cape is fighting some other cape, you know that their regen will turn off if they pass out, or that the power you provide gives *this much* zap so you need to hold back.

Ability to use powers even if the cape you're in is unconscious.

Something to steer your cape towards particular themes or behaviors.

Cauldron Conspirator
Something about the ridiculous number of contingency plans they had?
Shard science stuff.
Working undercover/don't be recognised stuff.
Maybe something about identifying people who are most useful to your current plan?
>>
>>48086731
I don't know, the fact that they're so ridiculously beyond anything else in-setting? It's like this one guy made them, and after at least seven centuries, no one had managed to come even close? Not even Mr. Super Wizard? Yeah, no.
>>
>>48086707

I'm pretty sure Voldemort is evil because of a combination of bad genes AND a shitty home life, along with a healthy supply of self hatred due to being a half-blood.

Probably you could have fixed him -- or at least reduced the damage -- if you'd have grabbed him out of that situation at an early age, although he'd probably still be predisposed to being a bit of a dick.
Rowling is kindof all over the place in her postscript interpretations and while she has a point she's also WAY oversimplifying the shitshow she put Tom through.

He got the shit end of the stick from nurture AND nature.
>>
>>48086742
How does that prevent the existence of the badly-named Stone, since it can't actually rez the dead, just let you talk to them?
>>
>>48086768
So the Sorcerer's Stone isn't real either?
It's like this one guy made it, and after around eight centuries, no one has managed to even come close. Not even Mr. Super Wizard.
>>
>>48086768
Please. The Elder Wand is the only one that's "ridiculously beyond anything else in the setting". The Invisibility Cloak just doesn't wear out, an impressive bit of craftsmanship but itself nothing special. And the Resurrection Stone's effects could be easily faked.
>>
>>48086731
>What evidence do we have of that other than an old folktale?
An old folktale that is fuckin' dead on, anon. The three brothers were real and the impossible artifacts are real and work just as described, but you draw the line at a supernatural being making them?

The 'old folktale' is basically a fucking history lesson.

Besides, don't knock the Lovegoods. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
>>
>>48086794
Was anyone else super unimpressed by the bit with the Philosopher's Stone? I know that it was a children's book, but even as a child I guessed "It was the Philosopher's Stone that Hagrid got from Gringotts" like two hundred pages before Hermione did. It's Nicholas Flamel, what else would he have made?
>>
>>48086800
>an impressive bit of craftsmanship but itself nothing special
Invisibility Cloaks last 10ish years, tops.
This one has lasted centuries. That's not "nothing special".

And the Resurrection Stone's Effects are fake....why? Because you don't want them to be made by Death?

>>48086816
No shit. The book was named The Philosopher's Stone, everyone who wasn't stupid guessed it before Hermione.
>>
>>48086746

>Gotta admit I'm kind of iffy on this, since that kind of thing seems sort of wonky when it comes to balancing it right, but I'll keep the idea in mind and see if it might be doable. Can't promise anything.

It's fine. I mostly had the idea do to remembering that it's something shards probably/likely do that isn't technically a power.
>>
>>48086814
Firstly, I'll knock the Lovegoods all I fucking want. They are the worst characters in the series, and everyone who waifus Luna is an idiot who has terrible taste in women.

Secondly, the "the Peverell Brothers just made them" theory fits the available evidence just as well. Why invoke a magical spirit giving it to them (and for the lamest of reasons, too, building a bridge should not earn you gifts from Death) when that isn't required.
>>
>>48086794
No? Because unlike the creator of the Deatly Hallows, he was still alive? Besides, it's not that great. All it does is create an elixir to extend your life and turn metals into gold. That, and they didn't have seven centuries since he made it, and Mr. Super Wizard was his friend.
>>
>>48086842
Prophecy is Real.
Ghosts are Real.
Fate is an actual thing in series.
Harry meets Dumbledore after he's dead!
Why are you so insistent that Death doesn't exist as a living being?
>>
>>48086816
Honestly Nicholas Flamel may be the one wizard in harry potter better known to muggles than wizards.
>>
>>48086856
You do realize that Nicholas Flamel is an actual legend right? And he made the stone in the legend 800ish years ago?
And Dumbledore was his Student.
>>
>>48086832
Not the anon, but when the shades ressurected by the stone are desicribed they are compared as not flesh nor ghost, but solidified memory. My Harry Potter-fu is bad, but I'm willing to trust that Dumbledore is telling the truth when he says no magic can bring back the dead. Hell Rowling even says no magic can bring back the dead if I remember correctly.
>>
>>48086832
No, they're fake because they don't do anything. The shades it conjures are just images that tell you nice platitudes or scream in pain. Honestly, I think that the Stone is a trap. It shows your loved ones in whatever condition would be required for you to want death. For Cadmus Peverell it showed his lover in pain, so he abandoned attempts to revive her and killed himself to be with her. For Dumbledore, it convinced him that he was unworthy of the power over life and death, and lead to him accepting the "necessity" of his death. And for Harry, the shades told him that it was alright, and they'd be with him when he went to let Voldemort kill you. The Stone's cursed, man. Just like someone with the Elder Wand is doomed to die from violence, someone with the Resurrection Stone is doomed to die from suicide.
>>
>>48086857
See, now I get why you like Luna so much. "There's no evidence this thing doesn't exist, and we live in a weird world of magic, so it must exist" is on her family's crest. Just because there are weird things that are real doesn't mean that every weird thing imaginable is real.
>>
>>48086878
Nice theory. I'd love to see a shred of canonical evidence that supports it, though.
>>
>>48086872
>Nicholas Flamel is an actual legend
He has a grave in France, you can go visit it.
>>48086877
The wiki quotes the line about that actually
>"They were neither ghost nor truly flesh, he could see that. They resembled most closely the Riddle that had escaped from the diary so long ago, and he had been memory made nearly solid. Less substantial than living bodies, but much more than ghosts, they moved toward him, and on each face, there was the same loving smile."
>—A description of the shades brought back by the Resurrection Stone

And it clearly compares them to something that was the closest to literally being the soul of someone taken form.
>>
>>48086899
The evidence is what I just said. That every person that's used the Stone committed suicide soon after as a direct response to the things the Stone showed them.
>>
>>48086903
I did not know that.

>>48086910
Dumbledore never actually used the stone. He went to use it, and got that curse on his hand, but he decided not to actually summon up his sister.
>>
>>48086919
I might be misremembering, but the wiki says he did summon Ariana's shade successfully.
>>
>>48086842
Easy, anon, I never said anything about waifus. But having a conspiracy theorist on hand to search fuckin' everything for information can be useful.

>the "the Peverell Brothers just made them" theory fits the available evidence just as well
Okay, I guess, technically.
>Why invoke a magical spirit giving it to them (and for the lamest of reasons, too, building a bridge should not earn you gifts from Death) when that isn't required
They weren't gifts in earnest, anon. They were supposed to fucking die crossing that river, and it pissed Death off when they told Fate to go fuck itself.
So he gave them 'gifts' to try and end their lives. Two out of three within a matter of days/weeks. Hell, the first brother died that night. The second one killed himself a short while. The third was a little bit smarter, and took a gift that let him live a long time, before returning to Death's embrace willingly.

In the end, Death got what it wanted, the way it always does. It's thematic.

Cauldron Conspirator could work as like a faction perk. Like I know it would be more work, but like you could totally have faction powers. Like those with Undersiders get a discount on their perks which involves being the underdog and having people underestimate you. Or if you're protecting something or someone you care about then you get boost in creativity in how to deal with threats levied against what you're protecting.

Cauldron would be like "ALL ACCORDING TO THE KEKAIU" with perks that allow you to plan ahead, deal with potential threats to your plans, and how to fix things when the Kekaiu isn't going as planned.
>>
>>48086910
Doesn't that point more to the Death theory though?
...actually, now that I think about it, why was Death so angry about the Brothers magicing up a bridge? Like, there was no guarantee they would go through the river if they couldn't, so they wouldn't have died anyway. The Reaper kind of looks like a duck for the sake of being a dick when you think about it.
>>
>>48086927
Yes, I know the gifts were traps. But it's still dumb. Plenty of people avoid their deaths, what was so special about these guys? Even if you assume it had something to do with them using magic to avoid death, are they the only people who have magicked their way out of danger?

Here's my take on the Hallows and Death and whatnot.

If Death made the Hallows and they all work as intended: no plotholes.

If Death made the Hallows and the Stone is just an illusion: why did he hand out two unbelievable artifacts and one dud? Why not three shitty things that would fail at the worst possible time?

If the brothers made the Hallows and they work as intended: no plotholes.

If the brothers made the Hallows and the Stone is just an illusion: the middle brother is an idiot? His older and younger siblings are geniuses whose work has never been replicated, but he can't tell when the artifact HE MADE is a fucking dud?
>>
>>48087019
I doubt it. They kind of work along opposite lines. Ghost Cutter lets you interact with things that have made themselves less physical. Sting makes things hyper-physical, to the point that they're unstoppable forces.
>>
>>48087120
Bringing the dead back to life is much more difficult than making a really good cloak or wand.

>>48087120
If Death made the Hallows, he could've very easily made those gifts to actually trick the brothers into his clutches. He could've made the stone ressurect but a simple memory, never changing for better or for worse, an "echo" as Dumbledore describes magic that is stated to "revive the dead".
The elder wand lulled the eldest into a false sense of security for all we know, and the one with the cloak, mind you, was the humblest who seeked to not humiliate death.

If the Hallows were made by the brothers, its straight up fucking impossible for the stone to be legit since again, Rowling said magic cannot by any means bring the dead back to life, and these magically gifted brothers would only have magic to work with.

And while I know how to fight efficiently with others, it's a bit difficult to make lasting connections, you understand.
>Elemental Magic (1000, Magician)
The elements respond readily to my command, of course.
>Healing Magic (900, Magician)
And the arts of healing are likewise easy for me to control.
>Silent Casting (700, Magician)
The fact that I can cast silently is not one I openly demonstrate under most circumstances of course, but it can be quite useful.
>Counterspells (500, Magician)
But if attacked, I have no problem with stopping such attacks in their tracks in order to retaliate.
>Demon Seed (200, Magician)
After all, being a slave and passed around as much as I am, it's hard for anyone to truly know who I am or how much power is at my command.
>King Ranked Spellbook (0, Magician)
And somehow, my spellbook always finds its way back to me.

I just kinda gave their employees an occasional wink and nudge during my day job at SHIELD.

Other than that I didn't, really. I just kinda freaked them up by showing up at their secret bunkers and clapping politely at their shenanigans.

I did anonymously tip off where their secret bases and assets were to Fury and Cap, though. They still have no idea why their personal computers periodically barfed up secret intel in a shower of pixels.

I feel like the main reason why I agree with this sentiment, is because a long time ago I found some comics I actually liked.

They were called Sandman, Lucifer, Preacher, Hellboy and the BRPD spinoffs.

It's all been downhill from there. Before (I Kill Giants, The Tragic Comedy of Mr Punch, technically Digger now it's in print) and after (Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, The Killing Joke, the Joker graphic novel, Batman: Noel and Neil Gaiman's Black Orchid revamp) I've found some gems I like but in general just reading the plot synopsis of most comics has been a real turn-off.

Or maybe starting from the Sandman has conditioned me to only like comics that read like surreal fever dreams, I dunno.

Hmm.

I think I've got it: A simple space-distorting Bounded Field, like what Araya did to his apartment.

She wanted to climb the tower?

Fine.

She can climb it /forever/ and never come within another centimeter no matter how hard she tries.

And nobody will ever see her again.

The climb will be all she has.

Considering Death doesn't show up anywhere else I always figured the brothers made them, and the myth sprang up around the Hallows because they were super better than anything else around at the time.

It seems vaguely appropriate to me that the whole fiasco beginning from Dumbledore's bumble to Voldemort's obsession happened because of enduring superstitious wizard incompetence.

Here's a WIP for The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

http://pastebin.com/1WuDcWp0

As you all can see I'm kind of stuck coming up with perks for drop in and the reaper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If there's anything you have a problem with I'll try to fix it to the best of my abilities.
>>
>>48088192
Drop-In perks should be based on Mandy, right? Or is she actually a demon? I'm not too familiar with the show's lore.
Also it seems kind of strange to give Idiot a mandatory drawback since those are usually reserved for origins and perks that are viewed as too strong for high cp costs alone to balance them, personally I'd suggest changing the background's name and making the drawback non-mandatory.
Other than that looks great so far.

Well, Reaper needs some skellyton perk(s). I remember Grim being reduced to a pile of bones/talking skull a few times.

Maybe limbo skills or binding supernatural betting? A perk to know when someone's "time is up"?

No option to take Nergal, Eris, or other canon companions aside from Billy, Mandy, and Grim?

I'll see if I can think of more later... Any idea what to base Drop-In on? I'd say Mandy, but Demon seems to have a bunch of stuff I'd associate with her.

Anyway, I will love you forever for making this. Carry on.

Yo /jc/ got a dilemma here, and I was hopin' y'all can help.

On a violence scale from 0 (Aria) to 10 (WH40K), where does Spice and Wolf fit?
>>
>>48083884
Usually yes.
>>
>>48087862
You should read the Boys or anything else by Garth Ennis really.

Well some of it is not amazing but the Boys is arguably as good as Preacher.

Man, what. Sitcom is a more violent setting than Spicy Wolf.

There is no best girl in Harry Potter. Even the redheads are horrible, and redheads default to awesome.

For what it's worth, thanks for the answers, I also found the Light Novels, so I'm gonna check it out properly. Just need to drag myself out of reading Aria and listening to its soundtrack.

This is been the best Sunday ever.

So you are saying that if Scion thinks you have the answer to the cycle he will try to Kill the Golden Goose by killing you, all on the ASSUMPTION he can fins he answers he is looking for by dissecting your corpse, instead of treating you as a source of irreplaceable info you do NOT take chances with?

Scion may not be an idiot, but you are one for even suggesting this.

Dude, the person who is saying you cannot do it is just being an ass. Fire element to Dark element is one change.
So it Fire element to Shadow element.

You can also do Death Mind stuff. The anon who said they were not related just has an uncreative brain.

If you want to do Death stuff change it so instead of burning the physical it burns the soul.

Changing the Fire from burning the physical to burning the mind would manifest as some status stuff.

Just be cool with what you do, cause Cool Cats Don't Trip.

Do we really need a Passenger Origin? I know one of the perk you mentioned was the ability to be a passenger in other jumps, but one of the basic Worm Powers basically gives that ability.

The "Ghost" power where you go Invisible, Intangible, and pretty undetectable and possess someone. You still have your powers.

If you let the possessee retain control and use your powers like he want you to, you effectively become his shard. (In fact you might make a note that someone who takes the passenger drawback can switch from the power the host had to that power after the jump is over to reflect that)

And would you be willing to drop the CP cost to choose a specific power from 400 (200 CP per roll) to 50-100 CP per picked roll to be more in line with the costs of other "roll or pay to pick" costs?

Please?

P.S. If you do make a Passenger Origin will it have to ability to make Multiple "User Accounts" to let other people make use of your powers like a real shard can? Perhaps with a maximum current logged in users limit of 8 or so? Because that really would be the only thing I would be interested in from a dedicated Passenger origin.

63!Fred and George are waifus so epic that it justifies using that perk from Unholy Heights to make them into waifus.
>>
>>48089339
Or you can take something like that as a rainmaker power in PS238 so that you don't have to subject yourself to that awful jump.
>>
>>48089339
You lack resolve, find a way to do that that doesn't involve that jump.
>>
>>48089398
>>48089415
Nothing wrong with the jump aside from two perks. Get over your pathetic hatred and focus on something that deserves it.
