At this point most of them are searching for the place they best belong in the multi-verse. None of us are lying to each other about how long this can last. Eventually everyone finds something that makes them want to get off this strange little journey I'm on. I'm certainly I'll do the same at some point in the future, but for now there are just too many interesting things to see and do.

DC and Sweets are the only two who have expressly said they are not leaving my side. It's nice knowing that at least, if nothing else, I'll have two loyal friends to count on.

The Choir of Righteous Fury stayed behind in the Hellsing Jump. They grew rather fond of Integra and protecting people from vampires and everything else that goes bump in the night seemed a noble enough goal to them to dedicate their lives to it. I was rather pissy when I found this out and did not leave them on the best of terms. I rather regret that. Hooligan Tuesday stayed as well, though she never expressed her reasons to me no matter how many times I asked.

Lenore has dedicated her existence to the development of all things cyborg and robotic based. So she's in it for the technology along the way. She's obsessed with the theory of "Machine Souls" and "Ghosts in the Shell". She's with until she grows bored with Jumping and finds a universe with enough technology to allow her to continue her research.

Tak, from Invader Zim, is really hard to get a read on. She's passed up multiple opportunities to go home with her knowledge and utterly rule the Irken Empire for a significant chunk of eternity. She insists she's only staying around to repay me for all the power I've helped her amassed, but I know that's a lie. I think she's in love with me but too much of an anime stereotype to just say so.

Seras (Hellsing) just joined us in the last Jump, so she's still getting acclimated to the whole process.

Alita (Bio-Brain Chip version, GUNNM), well, I don't know. And that scares me.

Few jumpers are foolish enough to jump into WH40K without getting a big chunk of power somewhere else first.
With out-of-jump powers the whole thing wouldn't actually be all that difficult, and he apparently wanted people to earn the Light of Terra instead of just curbstomping everything and flying away in their shiny new supership.
You'll notice that breaking the deadlight actually ends up with your ship being significantly worse than if you picked one of the other factions with deadlight intact, probably because it's "easymode", no matter how shitty dealing with years of the deadlight-broken path would be for anyone not a saint.

My second and third task were less interesting, they merely involved combat against foes Cat Sith didn't want to deal with or wasn't allowed to directly interfere with. I did try to limit myself to local abilities to make things more interesting, but the second battle was a bit tough.

Losing only part of my powers isn't never much of a big deal. I've got a pretty diversified array of them, so I usually have access to some of them. Even if I don't, there's always the tech I've invented to fall back on.

Except for the Regen I picked up in Infamous. I've grown so used to that over the Jumps that when I don't have it I tend to take a few days to acclimate. My Companions are pretty good at reminding me I'm not nearly immortal anymore, but it is still such an aggravation. It's like riding a bike though. After a week or so I remember how much time wounds /really/ take to heal and I'm back into fighting with a more defensive attitude.

That said, I still like taking Powered Down Drawbacks in my Jumps. Otherwise I get lazy and start just using Dungeons and Dragons magic for pretty much everything. One of my faults.

A few years into the jump you slip on a wet floor, fall down some stairs and break your neck. It happens all the damn time in RL, and chances are if you're used to being near-invincible for hundreds of years you'll be even less careful than most normal people.

Now your chain is over. Your stuck back in boring old RL even if you still have your powers.
Was that worth what those 200cp bought you? I think not.

I think people underestimate the danger of this drawback. Depending on your build style this could be incredibly fatal. There are perks that run on you being a reckless idiot. That make life super convenient and lots of luck and ease of use perks. Now this can be mitigated by regularly choosing such a drawback. But I dunno if taking such perks to begin with would be useful for a jumper who would gladly give up those powers just because.

Gracelessly, lacking severely in both dignity and honour.

First part of Light of Terra got particularly messy. Got a little easier after I picked up some perks and got my centuries long memories back but to start with it was all nosebleeds, shouting and scrap metal pain machines made by idiots for idiots.

It's one of the reasons I find it difficult to stick to a point on the alignment chart. Tend to be good when it doesn't cost me anything and fucking horrible when I'm actually threatened.

Usually people keep the drawbacks themselves pretty reasonable, but sometimes I feel like the reward isnt worth it. Like in Skullgirls a +300 drawback is both 'you and your crew lose all your powers' and 'you and your companions have amnesia at once'. For just 300cp thats pretty harsh.

Still took it early in my chain for story telling reasons.

It just makes more sense that way. Otherwise, how is the Deadlight not also stripping away Body Mod? Because that shit's Jumpchan enforced too. Evercleansed and Metavore are not natural capacities.

There's a few things

1. Unless some weird time nonsense occurs you basically left your companions stranded (and possibly normal humans for the first time ever) in Warhammer 40k for years, and your response is to consider the reunion heartwarming instead of 'Wait how are they here, and did I just leave my companions stranded without a clue for years?'.

2. This might be just me, but I consider trying to find a way back to past worlds or a way to contact them a 'moral priority'. So to me the 'You know this world is kind of nice enough to consider staying part in part 3 looks like 'I'm going to abandon everyone and everything, and probably make almost everyone I've ever met think I died horribly' to me.


3. Even without that it has you deciding that Warhammer 40000 might be a nice place to settle down.

4. Several of the companion texts have you doing borderline immoral to completely immortal stuff without the potential excuse of Chaos.

There's probably more, but that's all I can think of for now.

That's still leaves you open to death by bad luck.
People die to stupid accidents all the time, and a lot can happen in 10 years.
If you take no-power drawbacks regularly chances are pretty good you will have a fatal accident at some point.

Seeing how i got pretty much all the power i really wanted in my first 5 jumps (yay magic) i really don't see a need to take that risk. Everything else i get is just gravy, i just keep jumping for the experience.

The Warp is basically weird time nonsense made reality. There's literally no way to tell how much time has passed in the real world until after you've returned to "Real Space". I ended up saying that it only took us a few weeks of real time for us to dock the Terra, which I think fits the narrative a little better.

Not really. The accidental death rate is 41.3 per 100,000, which means if you go through 500 Jumps with no powers you'd only have an 18.7% chance of accidental death. Of course, that assumes you're an average candidate; given several millennia of skills you'll be accumulating the odds decrease even more.

Here's something I've been wondering: how buff is the Fortress of Arrogance that serves as the reward for the Deadlight broken route? It's obviously one of the few things in the jump that's even more powerful than the Light of Terra, but how strong is it? We can make comparisons between the Light of Terra, and others of it's ship class, but does the Fortress have a canon counterpart we can make comparisons to?

Imagine waking up with a hangover. Except instead of alcohol burnout and shame, you suddenly realize you're a very squishy human again after you've PROBABLY gotten used to shrugging off bullets, flying, etc.

Powerlocks are interesting but hellish depending on your theme, because your muscle memory and habits need to readjust to compensate. You might also be TOO fearless about danger by then, to boot.

It's also worth noting that most Powerloss drawbacks let you keep your Body Mod, and those can be pretty crazy themselves. Lean builds especially will be much less likely to suffer from such accidents.

Am I the only one who read the Light of Terra as a narrative designed to explain your situation and offer suggestions about how to reach the end rewards, and not some sort of hard and fast thing you're meant to cling to or die?

There's something this is overlooking.

You technically need to be more of a jerk to the tribes if you don't break it. The only way to get training and resources (a.k.a. cp) in part one without breaking it is to have tribes consider you an enemy.

Considering the setting this probably involves killing a lot of them.

So your technically putting your powers, self, and identity at a lower priority than making more of the others unsafe.

Hell, you can't even go to the beach unless winged humans are a thing in-setting.

Also Body Mod is already really short on points.
I'd rather pick up something like 3 levels of Endurance instead of wings, which i imagine will be useful in a lot more situations. Especially if you have maxed speed and dexterity.

I did too, yes. Fluffy guideline, of which I ignore the parts of that didn't fit. Like, everything the jumper is described as doing. Here have an overview, I broke the Deadlight at first. Keep in mind I'm running in there as a 400 jumps old thing.


Part 1? Bought the Tomb Spyder and unleashing Nanoswarms to rebuild the LoT. Everyone on board got either cleansed of corruption or purged, then redistributed on a random world with portals.


Part 2? I chilled on a planet for a while, because my LoT was already rebuilt when I docked. My tomb spyder exploded into an annoying girl.

...I reconstructed the Tomb Spyder with magic, because soulless machine. Stabbed the girl with my 'No-rez gg' sword when simply portaling her out didn't work.

Also, I think demons showed up at one point? I kinda ignored them.


Part 3? Met up with Necron Dad, upgraded ship. Apart from that, nothing much happened. Just portal'd my ship to the Dyson Sphere, and put a Necron with delusions of grandeur out his misery.

Funny thing. I kept the deadlight pieces, so when he's gloating I just wave my hand a reconstruct it. Deadlight Intact ending, somehow?


Not sure on the DLC yet.
