Hey folks, I'm new to the hobby. I don't even know if I want to play the tabletop game but I'm interested in assembling and painting miniatures as a way to relax.

Are there any particularly good UK-based sites for buying all the essentials (brushes, paints, pliers etc.) that isn't from GW themselves? I'm not a poorfag but I won't pass up a good deal.
>>
>>47870744
Element games and wayland games offer 15-20% off most models and have alot of alternatives for brushes, bases, magnets etc

ebay also a mention for hand drills, magnets and cheap prebuilt stuff

Pretty new to the game, how come my longfangs can get dope heavy weapons, but the longfang ancient has to sit there like a bitch with a bolter pistol? I'm reading the rules correctly right?

Is there any reason to use the skyfire formation for tau?

It says:
Can fire any number of remaining seekers whenever they want
get 5+ cover save vs flyers

I thought skyrays could fire as many seekers as they wanted anyway if they still had any left? I would essentially be buying a devilfish just to get jink without snapshots (which isnt overly bad but you can do so much better)

Balance

In seriousness, Warmachine's warjacks always struck me as very 40k. You've got a powerful, well, war machine, fueled by the psychic energy of a nearby infantry unit. You can snipe that person instead of dealing with the machine, which in 40k terms might make it shut down, go berserk, or whatever.

Sort of like how Kastellans work, except if their techpriest was an independent character, and also if losing him was a bigger penalty than being stuck on one mode.
>>
>>47870887
you can only fire "as many seekers as you want" if you have markerlights to do so, and then it is at BS, requires LoS and doesn't ignore cover.

what?

If you use markerlights then its resolved at BS5 and ignores cover

I had a quick look in the book and cant find anything about skyrays firing all of them without markerlights though, but still why would you take this formation over 2 skyrays and a VX1-0 markerlight formation
>>
>>47870897
They had it and the other Ultra successors had a fit about it. Papa Smurf tried to ease tension by taking it for the Ultramarines, but the Mortificators sent the knife to the Deathwatch for future Deathwatch Mortificafors to use.

>>
>>47870961
whos FUCKING idea was tlos
>>
>>47870961
It actually was a thing in early 40k. They were trying to ease people out of RPGs (which is how GW started) by keeping core elements from them like GMs in their tabletop games.
>>

Someone who was probably a business man and not a player of the game, who walked in on a game during a moment when they were determining if a model could see another model.

That's my headcanon and I'm sticking to it

>>47870978

Then I would like for him to interact with a glorious cqc chapter and have them comment on the inadequacy of his equipment.
Tho I do plan on doing a commissar model with a katana as soon as I get the time to order the bits.
>>
>>47870907
I liked how that book did nothing but drive home the fact that Ahriman is utterly ruthless and constantly one-step ahead in his schemes.

Did he know ahead of time that Astraeos was going to be the damnation of his chapter, or was that particular bit of warp fuckery beyond even Ahriman's foresight?
>>
>>47871012
True line of sight

it is widely hated for good reason, a good example is if a unit is in a forest

LoS: he is in a forest area, therefore he is in cover
TLoS: I can directly see the unit im firing at as there are no trees between me and him, even though he is in a forest he doesnt get cover
>>
>>47871012
True.

In older editions, you had special rules for how far models could see at night, how far they could see into forests, etc. It may sound complicated, but it was better for many reasons.
>>
Just got Lost Patrol and,

Good fucking god, the scouts are the worst sculpt I've ever had the misfortune of assembling. What absolute moron designed this kit? Nothing aligns properly in the slightest, and I ended up with glue stains all down one of the Heavy Bolter guy's arms trying to get them to even a rough approximation of a passable pose.
>>
>>47871012
True is the T. It means if a model can see a model, they have LoS.

Woods and jungles especially have to have some abstraction because there's only so many trees or whatever you can actually play with, so in earlier editions you straight up couldn't shoot units that were deep into terrain like that (nor could they shoot out unless they were catachans). It made the game work better and terrain more important.

Can I get some critique on my fluff?
Also few questions -
Would there be any circumstances a Space Marine chapter would be able to control a forge world?
How much is space marine command of guardsmen regulated? Could I get away with an under strength chapter having a regiment permanently attached that they do combined arms tactics with?
Also, what's a good name for a Dark Angels successor chapter? I was going with Knights of Caliban as a placeholder
Other ideas are like the Chevaliers or Paladins? What were some other holy warriors?

Now for the fluffy bit -
The Chapter was founded at the behest of the Dark Angels Grand Master, with the intent of being a fleet-based crusading chapter. They considered themselves unforgiven and hunted the fallen. A few centuries into their crusades, however, they began to fester doubts, climaxing in a campaign with their parent chapter, the Captains almost came to blows, the Dark Angels wanting to capture the fallen, while the Successors believed he should simply be executed as was a traitors just due. The Chapter masters each backed their own captains, and when three more Fallen were executed during the Chapter's campaigns, they were declared to be "no true sons of the lion" by their lieges. Soon after, under orders from the Angels, almost all of their interrogator chaplains and a full half of their first company veterens returned to their parent chapter to be quietly redispersed, leaving the chapter with 3 remaining interrogator chaplains, one recently interred within a dreadnought.
The chapter gathered its remaining forces and pledged itself to a new crusade, refusing to recruit or resupply. They made their way to the edges of the ghoul stars, where they brought the Saarval system back under imperial sway and rediscovering a great crusade-era shipyard, they were granted the primary world of Saarval as their new homeworld, and the dangerously under strength chapter has slowly replenished in the years following

>grenade abuse
Except it wasn't a problem, fuck off and run more Ironclads Dreadnoughtfag. All it did was nerf squad-wide grenade purchases into the fucking ground (see especially: IG Veterans, FWs, Wyches, Corsairs) and Eldar can STILL spam Haywire grenades with Hawks.

>Relic abuse
I would wholeheartedly agree with you, except the bullshit HQ builds like Smashfucker don't rely on multiple relics, and the one faction that does enjoy stacking them, Tau, is STILL allowed to do so due to shitty wording. Relicspam was an overcosted gimmick at worst and a fluff tool at its best.

>accidentally killing dead the most viable strategy of an already shitty faction
How many other open-topped jinking transports do you know? That Scout Landspeeder? I wouldn't be surprised if some faglord decided mechDE was too overpowered and needed a nerf.

>>47871236
Yeah it's a draft, but everyone that knows about it is pushing it as >official, so I can't get a game that doesn't use it. Besides it will probably be published as a proper FAQ sooner or later if it isn't absorbed into the next rulebook first. I can only hope GW actually listens to the complaints and changes some things about in the final draft, which they've actually done for once with this Dread ruling.

>>
>>47871335
>The thing that irks me most is that Tau are specifically still allowed to do it while all other factions are told no. Why?

It's RAI, its fluffy, and it was written in a way that doesn't make it broken because of what those relics do. Does the Buffmander really cost you games, or are you just on the Tau hate bandwagon?
>>
>>47870782
>why would you want to be friendly with the only mean of long-range communication?

>>
>>47871281
Knights of Caliban is a good name, but I don't think it's one that the DA would ever use for a successor chapter as it's pretty much a direct reference to the ravenwing/the order of Caliban.
>>
>>47871323
They did a faq stating that mdeld wit outdates rule ms were sill use able, so untill they redo ia8 imdredd mob and the other stuffis still viable.
>>
>>47871372
Are you okay?
>>
>>47871367
I mean their whole schtick was going to be sword & board assault troops and space marines commanding guard squads, with the only 5 suits of termie armor the chapter had left being sword and board as well.
>>
>>47871353
As it happens I'm actually ex-Tau myself. Fluff isn't exactly a fallback when the likes of Marines, for example, can spam relic vehicles of the Heresy out the ass as long as a Techmarine is chilling with them. For what reason can my Chapter Master not have a relic jump pack and lightning claws when in the same list I can feasibly have a Deredeo, Leviathan, Fire Raptor and Javelins zooming around?

Anyway, since you bought up Buffmander, he's a potent build any way you look at him, and probably the best usage of stacked relics in the game, period. So again, why do Tau get to do this and no other faction can? From a rules standpoint Tau are already a strong enough codex, and in fluff terms some of those relics are pretty rare, like the Onager Gauntlet.
>>
>>47871382
was rattling it off at breakneck speed, needed to take a piss so bad my vision was turning yellow.
>>
>>47871353
>Does the Buffmander really cost you games, or are you just on the Tau hate bandwagon?

not him but i play tau, its not really going to cause you to auto win a game but its seriously powerful for its price, for the cost of a devilfish with some subsystems you can just give yourself a squad of 5+ crisis suits essentially 2 extra hardpoints worth of twinlinkage, granting you a sub system for each suit if you want to skyfire or something
>>
>>47871372
They had a bit in the FAQ stating that models with outdated rule were still usable, so until they redo ia8 Dredd mob and the other stuff is still viable.

IG is a 6th edition codex, therefore it was written before the rule......

No, you don't. Mark my words, Orks will get nerfed harder. They had time for Cowardly Grots! and removing Green Tide, and to nerf the only shining star in their abysmal codex, but none for enhancements or wording clarification. They'll find a way to nerf some other middling shit in the faction into utter un-usability.

Regarding Eldar & Tau, they'll get buffs, if anything. If they're smart, they will replace all the Eldar D with the wraith weapons' old rules/profiles, & explicitly re-word the Tau Relic language.

They are not smart.

I assume with the colors, you mean how good a unit is. As I have no idea which color means what, here are some personal suggestions for white(missing?) entries.
For all I assume within the codex, not compared to other codices.
CSM: Chaos Marines medium Helbute (single L!) bad. Termilord bad but Termisorceror good (can be built as well)
Dark Eldar :
Warriors good; Reavers good; Raider good archon medium (but so are all other HQs...)
The Astra militarum heavy weapons team is abbreviated hWt

As others said, the colors are good, because they are readable, but seriously make a legend

I need more anti-infantry in my list against horde orkz/nids in my area, but I also love improbable whacky units that only work during blizzard season in Hell. I have around 150-170 points to work with and came up with:

This actually comes out to a respectable amount of dakka/dice rolling comparable to a much more expensive marine squad, only problem is it's just five dudes and a rhino which die/get shaken easily, with short range guns. You have been visited by the zany dakka rhino of heresy and flames, all of your hull points will be stripped unless you post DEATH TO TRASH MOBS in this thread.

Anyway what I want to know: is there any rule that prevents me from taking an extra combi-bolter AND a combi-flamer AND a havoc launcher? Like a limitation based on number of mounting positions on cupolas or something? I could easily model it up as two side-by-side combi-bolters fixed to the closed cupola lid on the left, with a gunner using the combi-flamer on the right, and the havoc launcher on the back using the alternate predator rear hatch that comes with the rhino kit. That's asking for rules lawyers to start bitching though so I want to be 100% sure this is legal.

I think not, but you should be aware you are only allowed to fire one, without snapshotting, when you move the rhino. Not a fast vehicle.

Furthermore, drop the gargoyles, they are utter trash.
Instead of your Dakkarhino, may I suggest to buy destroyerblades and tankshock the horde into nice chunks that make the flamers of the infantry squad (and the FRAG-Grenade!) much more effective. So get out of the Rhino, tankshock in a way that they are clustered together. Make some extra wounds with destroyer blades. When clustered together, watch the wounds flamers can do...
(Works best with 2 Rhinos)

The new kits come with the bits to make any of the main drone variants so you can build them all as marker drones if you want.

Also, that anon speaks the truth, marker drones are high tier, and even gun drones aren't too terrible with the drone net formation.
>>
>>47871667
Sounds like you're forging the narrative real hard there friendo but no they don't, they come in their own formation which is literally 1 assassin of your choice
>>
>>47871667
They use the Assassin Detachment which is one Elite... conveniently each Assassin is an Elite Choice.
>>
>>47871643

There are three kinds of basic drones:

Markerlight drones.
Gun Drones.
Shield Drones.

Markerlight drones are a common replacement for Pathfinder, often attached to a commander that give them BS 5.

Gun drones are often part of a Crisis team as extra wounds and for extra initiative.

Shield drones are rarely seen since they require a lot more positioning, have no weapons and only serve as slightly more expensive wound vs things that can instakill your suits. They will die to flashlights as easier as gun drones, but may survive a lascannon.

pathfinders are pretty sweet if:

1. you make them all rail/ion and pair them with a dronenet formation for MLs

2. you have them in the formation with the broadsides, although the requirement to have 3 pathfinder teams is a little expensive
>>
>>47871659
You make some pretty solid points, I think I'm sold. The gargoyles were just for maximum dice rolling. Yeah they're shit but they'll probably kill a gaunt or two and that's good enough for my gimmick, although I think I will get rid of them in my revised loadout:

5 Chaos Space Marines, Combi-flamer/Flamer
>Rhino with destroyer blades/havoc launcher/dozer blade

I guess I'll have to put on those skimpy dozer blades they give you in the rhino kit, then just slap on a shitload of huge spikes from all over the front of the rhino instead of attaching the premade destroyer blades that go where the dozer blades go.

Was just lazy.... Fine.
CSM are somewhat expensive and suffer from morale problems. But small squads with rhino give you mobile scoring. Also being able to take 2 specials at 10 or 1special and a matching combi-weapon at 5 makes them better than many assume. So add Rhino. Keep them cheap (no extra melee weapons. NO HEAVY they should be mobile).

Helbrute outside of the special datasheet formations, its too slow to get into melee, has too few attacks to do something. Saving grace would be to make it shooty, as CSM lack long range dakka outside Heavy Support (Helbrute is elite), but has a table on which to roll when wounded, and your shooty dread might want to get into melee because of it.

Termilord: On his own he is too slow to get into melee, deepstrike is unreliable, Landraider is expensive. Also suffers from the fact that termiarmor is really expensive and comes with stuff you do not want (5++ and power weapon) you want a 4++ (Sigil) and a relic weapon for your melee fighter. So you pay double for this. Furthermore you need to give him either a Mark of Nurgle or he has t4 which means instant death by S8. If Lord give him a bike or demonic steed instead. Termi-Sorceror gets the armor for 15pts less, because he does not get a powerweapon, but keeps his force weapon, making him cheaper. Also with 2wounds instand death is less of a problem and he does not need to be in melee to do something.

Kabalite Warriors: The far better standard compared with wyches. They have 24' range, have access to blasters, better armor (5+) and are cheaper then wyches. Also allows you to make kabalite trueborn who can take 4 special or 2 heavy (there is no 'Veteran' kit), but both suffer from the recent FAQ(snapshot when jink). Unfortunatly kit only comes with one of each special/heavy weapons. Want a transport, because of their low saves and toughness.

to be continued

The cheapest Leman Russ available is the Eradicator. S6AP4 Heavy 1 48" Ignores Cover Large Blast, for 120 points.

It's kind of overshadowed by the Wyvern, though. Probably the actually good budget russ is the Exterminator, with it's 4-shot twin-linked autocannon array. For 150 points you can slap 2 more heavy bolters on it for 16 AP4 shots and mulch GEQ like it's your job.

Reavers: One of the best units in the codex (3 is not enough IMHO, but you need to start somehwere). Very fast.(eldar jetbike) can shoot and move in the melee phase) Can either made shooty (1 blaster /heatlance per 3) or can get upgrades for D6 S6 rending hammer of wrath hits. Do not use both, obviously. Unfortunatly low armor, so you jink alot. Still, nasty.

Raider: As said before, transports are, desppite the FAQ mandatory for dark eldar, which leaves you with choosing either venom or raider. The raider has a couple benefits over the venom. It can take a rather good heavy weapon, that can damage heavy infantry (disintegrator) or vehicles (dark lance) both units the venom is not good against. It can fit 10 passengers instead of 5 making it mandatory for most squads with an attached HQ. It has interesting upgrades for better jink, twinlinking splinter weapons and can get Aethersails to make it flat out 24 inches, yes thats 36 inches. On your basic transport. Can also get upgrades to tankshock (as can the venom) and ram.

Archon. In my opinon, all DE HQs are overcosted as they are rather fragile but cost a ton. Unfortuately the Archon cannot get a AP2 melee weapon. Useful equipment: cheap with blaster (BS 7!), can get a 2++ shadowfield that collapses when you fail (due to T3 you are likely instant death anyway), Agonizer (Ap3 but poison 4+, melee to mitigate his strength). Webway Portal: Allows him and his unit to deepstrike without error. These Items mean, he will cost many many points quickly, often he is not worth it.

Still don't understand why people are so fixated on the "MC" part.

Just call them Riptide varants, or RV if you want a quick, two-letter word. MC status means absolutely fuck all aside from being a HINDRANCE to it.

Take away the MC status, and you lose:
AP2 on melee attacks

But gain:
The ability to be joined by independant characters.

Good job, we can now have 3 BS4 riptides with twin-linked Ignores Cover inherently, while also having shrouded for that 2+ armour/2+cover/5+ invul/5+FnP.

Riptides are inherently broken. It has nothing to do with unit type.

So, random off the wall topic. If you were to run Skitarii with a teammate running Orkz, how well do you think it would turn out? Thinking about doing a campaign involving two groups pushing hordes at each other, Octarius(sp?) Style. Tau and a Tyranid force they have diverted towards the battle, and Skitarii that have persuaded orkz that its a good fight to join.

Thinking of giving Tau/Skitarii Obsec goals, maybe have them fight off both hordes if you accidentally their commanding units.

I wouldn't buff them anymore. Me and my Orkbro have been doing games constantly now with the Deff Dreads, and having them on par with the Space Marine dreadnoughts seems to be the best way to go.

>>47872355
They're not very fluffy. In the fluff they're virtually immune to small arms fire and unstoppable rape machines fueled by rage who cause widespread destruction. On the table they die from bolter shots to the ass and cause widespread mocking laughter.

It's just poor design. GW needs to learn two VERY obvious and fundamental things about game design that literally any faggot who has played the game for 10 seconds and given it a modicum of critical thought can tell you:

1) Random charts for random bullshit benefits are worthless, if you cannot depend on something to be available then it's not worth spending resources (points) on because there's a large chance you'll get a bad result and thus your points are wasted.

2) Losing control is never fun. It's not fun to lose control of your character in RPGs, it's not fun to lose control of your models in 40k, it's not fun to lose control in real life unless you're some kind of sexual masochist. Nobody wants their fucking units to just randomly go off and do their own thing while the player just sits there powerless with no chance to make choices, this is a shit concept and should have died a thousand times already.

They need to bring back the Crazed rule from the 3.5 edition book. They were pretty random, but the result was almost always useful. With a few tweaks to bring them up to date (4 base attacks, etc) they'd be workable as cheap, suicidal distraction units. You throw them forwards and force the opponent to kill them or lose whatever gets in their way, while your more valuable units advance unmolested.

I'm not trying to be a prick here, but if you actually want to win you can't really play Deldar. Set yourself some fluffy goals in matches (my Archon is causing this raid solely to kill that ethereal and take his soul as a toy) and be happy when you accomplish them.

>The Silver Skulls of the Adeptus Astartes encountered Kroot that had assimilated DNA from the Eldar and gained powerful psychic powers, which allowed them to cover themselves in an illusionary disguise that hid their true nature, appearing instead as dark, midnight-blue creatures with smooth skin, long sinewy limbs, clawed fingers, and large amethyst-purple eyes set in a comparatively small, elongated face that came to a triangular point with two nostril slits at the end, no visible ears, and a mouth full of a double set of razor-sharp teeth. Their psychic disguise was only ruptured when their cerebral connection was broken, such as when their head was severed, after which they would revert back to their true Kroot form.

>They also displayed the ability to generate multiple psychic illusions of themselves in battle, which appeared to their enemies as completely corporeal and capable of causing harm. However the illusions were extremely vulnerable to psychic attacks and would dispel back into thin air when hit by one.

>The Silver Skulls recognised that Kroot with psychic potential posed a grave threat to the Imperium and recommended the planet where they were encountered on be cleansed.

Every Marine gets a version of EW, when taking a wound they roll a dice, on a 4+ they lose one limb and the war gear/ special rule that goes with it (so lose a leg and lose FC, lose an arm and lose your CCW, lose both legs and you become SaP)
Initiates get 2 W, brothers get 4, Captains 10 and Chapter Masters , Masters of the Forge and ML2+ libbies can choose to act as Beasts or MCs

Assmarines get HoW when jumping into combat equal to S-number of marines in the unit, max 10
If Devs are charged, they can use their weapons' shooting profile in cc
Tactical a get free FnP, when the whole squad is killed, 1/2 of the tacticals get back into the fight through ongoing reserves

They don't always play on the same days, but our area is full of players. Helps to have a casual atmosphere. Honestly it's a lot of trouble, we have to keep the WAAC lists from seeing play, even if we just want a game. Standing your ground on the matter helps.
I've had games where after seeing the opponents army I refused the match. One guy claimed it was a victory (I don't lose often, thankfully I'm fun to play against or that could cause trouble) and after he went around the store telling people he beat me before the match started... he didn't get any more games. That kind of attitude isn't acceptable.
Pick up games are not tourney dick waving competitions, it's a place to play, hang out and have fun.

> Watching my troops literally kill themselves instead of doing what I want = """fun"""
Lolno. Some randomness is cool, provided it's silly & useful. Not controlling your troops is pretty shitty--it means, in a very literal sense, you don't play them while that's going on. Would anyone play a video game that just played itself? Especially while your character specifically did shit that you didn't want it to do?

If it's random but consistently helpful, that's fine. Part of the problem with the Ork codex is that the randomness isn't helpful or consistent. They pay tons of points for the -possibility- of strong performance, like rolling double sixes on the Shokk Attack Gun--but a third of the results you can get are terrible and harm you, and another third change a Large Blast AP2 weapon into some other weird shit (teleport, single-hit under hole in template, whatever). You might shoot at a vehicle & roll S3, doing nothing, or kill a single Scout. They pay as much in points for guns that all shoot at BS2; GW believes Big Shootas are the hottest shit, though they'll deliver 1 hit per turn, on average.

It's why Necron players all say that C'tan shards are unusable now.
>>

Yesterday I had a very casual game with Daemons, Orks(using your codex), Necrons, and Space Marines, but that large game wasn't the original lineup. Before then, I was approached by one of the local Tourneyfags who wanted to do a 2v2 3k, with me playing with my Orkbro on my team.

I told him that I would play the game, but only if my orkbro could use the space 0din fandex. Naturally the tourneyfag refused, and his excuse was, "Orkbro doesn't need it, I've seen orks win sometimes, it's do-able". And quite adamantly refused to play any sort of game where your codex was used.

Now my entire gaming group has the tourneyfag boycotted. Nothing was lost of course, during the OTHER 2v2 last night, I looked over and saw the tourneyfag playing his eldar against some blood angels, on a board that had precisely 2 terrain pieces, that HE set up.

I cannot comprehend this. The Tyranids, I understand. But the rest? Nah. Do they run ultra-fluffy lists or summat?
>>

Tyranids dominate Orks, paroxysm all over and Orks just pfft into Grots.
>>
>>47875769
Some people are just plain bad
>>
>>47874656
What a fucking douche. Like, all-around. BAs need all the help they can get; what were the other 3 players doing, letting him skip the terrain step in setup?

Wild guess here: his Eldar army is Wraithknight(s), Wraithguard, & Scatbikes, maybe with some Striking Scorpions?
>>
>>47875769
Contrary to what /tg/ thinks, the player is more important than the list and army.
>>
>>47875737
With the tyranids I get it, but I'm willing to bet that all of the other players are running intentionally bad lists for games against you, since all of those other factions would just curb-stomp optimized orks with even the simplest of well-rounded lists.

I hope you realize they're using their kiddie gloves when you're around? They're letting you win because you're playing orks.

No, none of the 3 other players let him in on our game. He got in a game with BA on his own when we left him out.

He had the typical Wraithdar. But I really don't know why anyone would let the waacfaggot setup terrain himself like that.

>small world with no strategic value, has two continents one is a bit north of the equator and is just the mediterranean europe made as a huge continent lots of agricolture and used as a resort for the rich imperials of the nearby systems, the second its a polar frozen mountainous wasteland with a single huge hive city
>orks crash in the southern polar continent causing a "minor" infestation, conquer the hive city since the rest of the continent is so shitty that even spores have problems growing outside the hive
>the survivors move north creating a non citizen class that is required to serve in the planetary defence force and keep the orks at bay in the southern continent to gain at least some civil rights
>this goes on for like 2k years, the entire culture is shaped around going south and fighting the orks to become a citizen, nobles usually buy theyr own carapace armor and aircraft and launch private campaigns parachuting in the upper spires of the hive seeking glory and political weight (like the roman consuls)
>the non mountainous parts of the continent are almost impossible to pass without having half of the army getting killed off by the cold, so the fights usually happens in the mountains (the minis are basically alpine kriegs so far) with ill equipped non citizens and better equipped citizens
>finally the imperium notices that the planet is failing to meet its production quotas because they lost the first industrial center, and the few industries they have are used for this containment war, and decide to send a regiment of steel legionaries
>thanks to the mechanized warfare they retake the hive easily
>this state of sudden peace fucks up completely the society that was based on a perpetual war, so lots of young men and non citizens volunteer for the IG en masse or just form mercenary armies with regiments of specialists in mountain warfare and mechanized doctrines in harsh enviroments thanks to the advisors that came with the steel legion.

Space wolf guy runs tons of thunderwolves but they just get torn apart my deff dreads and warboss.

Tyranid guy has two flyrants and never jinks when I fire my tankbustas at them, "what's the worst thing a few snap-shooting orks can do?" *dead*

Medusa strike force and blood angels is just marines with FnP, hit them with strength 8 and 10 to win.

I beat a knight army but that was just a matter of having good AT

Skyhammer is nasty, I had trouble beating it so I covered everything in boyz. If he's got nothing good to kill that first turn alpha strike is meanless.

It's all just a matter of playing to their strengths.
>>
>>47875914
I kind of want to play Tau on the side, but I don't want to be a waacfag

no matter what list I've put together, it always ends up being scary strong. I think you have to go out of your way to make a bad Tau list

I wonder how a list with suits and stuff but 0 markerlights would do
>>
>>47875846
They play the same lists vs everyone.

>>
>>47875966
Orks are actually a lot better than how /tg/ portrays them in my experience. I've lost to them more than the nids and csm at my flgs. And it's the same guy with all three armies.
>>
>>47875914
What the fuck is GOAT?

Also, I typically play casual, 2 HQ 4 troop CAD. But I keep around a Hyper-optimized gladius in case a WAAC player decides to intrude on our casual group. Waacfags get to have one game of curb-stomping against casual lists, and then I bring the bullshit, Gladius-RAZORWIRE list to table them on turn 2.
>>
>>47876047
This.

Orks are a really strong codex, don't listen to the /tg/ whiners.

You two sound exactly like the tourneyfag that my group boycotted last night. Before Space 0Din made his fandex, Orkbro had a win-loss of 2 wins to 38 losses. He was grasping at straws to try and find ways to win, even taking the apocalypse-only superheavy formations, and still losing everything against lists that were made intentionally bad against orks.

I'm planning on picking up a 'looted' knight from the renegade knights box, do you think klaw and rapid fire Kannon is a good idea or should I go double dakka?
Maybe even double Kannon, that gives me 9 heavy stubb, err, big shoota shots so it can mince infantry and vehicles.

it denies modelling for advantage.

Have you ever played against an army of kneeling guardsmen?

Ever been in a situation, my tank can hit yours, coz I can draw a line from my gun to your hull, but you cannot do the same (Weapon in all the wrong places, syndrom)

It also makes play easier, less tabletop-yoga whether you have line-of-sight with that guardsman in floor 2 of the building.... (usually follows by tipping the models.

It also just takes too fukken long.

Except that we don't.. Our group is Space Marines(Me).. Chaos with lots of Multi-god Chosen. Daemons(New guy, he plays Khorne), and Space Wolves.

The space wolf player is the only one in our group that tries to waac, everyone else just wants to have a good time.

Yes, he's bad at the game, and dumb as a brick, but he's a fun guy to be around. We've been coaching him on how to be a better player, yet it never really sinks in on him.

Shitbrutes with A4 would be worth considering. 100 pts for a walker with 4-7 S10 AP2 attacks can work as a useful distraction, especially if CSM someday gain access to drop pods

You gotta find like minded players and play with them. That's really the only way to enjoy playing the game.
Our FLGS is in central VA. It used to be FTW games.

Use 1/2 tau, one half some allies. Choose some, that fit with the tau theme, like IG if you are into fluffy armies.

Tau are allies of convenience with Eldar, and many people look down and using desperate allies or CtA allies

from what I've read R&H isn't significantly different from AM if you don't plan on taking assault units or chaos stuff

AM has the advantage of costing a lot less and not being FW
>>
>>47876196
It counts wounds rather than models, so it works with any and all non-grot infantry. I'd love an alternative, if you've one to suggest, that emphasizes the "strength in numbers" approach.

I considered just making it D3 S3 hits for an auto-pass, because the GW chart is pants-on-head retarded.

Not sure if this is the best thread to ask, but figured I would try before starting my own.

I am wanting to get in on the hobby and have bought some forgeworld items. Before I get into painting them (I have painted a full betrayal at calth box with ultramarines and word bearers, and I think I did pretty well) I'd like to try and figure out what I could possibly make with what I have.

As far as theorycrafting for what works, I am totally out of my depth.

I have chosen the imperial fists based on fluff and what I can glean as their playstyle, I am a very defensive player.

What I have is:
A full calth box
fists upgrade kits for 20 tactical marines
a warder upgrade kit
a templar upgrade kit
40k land raider
40k chaplain
sigismund

Any idea on where I should start on figuring out what my army should look like?
