The proper ritual spell for attracting the tender attentions of the touhoufag has both material components (underaged girls with hats) and verbal components (a euphoric writing style, as if one were an autistic robot). Unless both of these are provided, and in plenty, no less, the spell will fail, and we will be doomed to our eternal hell with Build Poster instead.

Are there any guidelines as to what can and cannot be a Wizard's bonded item, beyond what is given in pic related? For example, it says both weapon and staff, as if talking about different things. Does this mean that the wizard may start with a magic staff, just like he can start with a magic wand?
>>
>>47668228
Same hardness, more HP.
>>
>>47668237
At start, a bonded object staff is just a staff, just as a bonded object wand doesn't have a spell in it. The wizard can PUT them there, following the crafting rules given, but until then, they're just sticks.

I ran my players through a ghost town that ended up being a straight ripoff of Spirited Away (but instead of being forced to work there, they got a VIP treatment and lost 2 weeks of time whilst an NPC they aren't friendly with advanced towards winning a heavy-duty long-term contest a la Ready Player One).

It's also great because I played it straight, without giving any direct references to Spirited Away, and they still latched on to the paranoia that they'd be forced to stay.

If not, think about using a summoner instead.
Really when a wizard is so mechanically detached from the concept of stands, there's nothing stopping you from saying 'whenever I cast a spell a stand appears behind me and is casting it instead'

But anon, we're playing Pathfinder. Magic has no hazards in this game.
>>
>>47668289
When it comes to fluff, you've pretty much got entire freedom thanks to being a fullcaster. If you're a wizard, just choose thematically-connected spells (even if it's just something like "every spell has visible effects and is colored red") and explain it how you wish; you can do it all, so the most fun thing for a wizard is ironically to limit himself and have a theme.

I mean, it is a massive disappointment because Mystic Bolts are SHIT without immense houseruling, but it's still arguably one of the better archetypes at the moment. If only because of all the archetypes that grant casting, it's the least-bad one.
Stregone in progress, maybe I can disappoint you twice.

Gareth, did you know that the Harbinger's Accursed Will and Dark Focus both provide insight bonuses, and that insight bonuses don't stack?

I did not know this. I found out the unpleasant way, from a DM who pretty much hates my happiness. "Maybe you should have traded it out with an archetype," I paraphrase, "since you're so obsessed with system mastery."

It was a bad time, Gareth! But I forgive you.

Unrelated entirely, has anyone tried out the prestige class for Endeca's gregarious gravity slimes in Steelforge? It looks fun but clunky. How would one go about making the most of it? Why aren't there "shove your <companion/familiar/other>-granting class feature into your <companion/familiar/other>-granting class feature" feats? DSP should write one somewhere. Probably in the psionics line where they keep all their stealth fixes.

Text only online game using roll20 that does not require me to run the game, has a very dedicated and motivated dungeon master, players who take the game and the story seriously enough while still allowing for some brevity, and allows both first-party and certain third-party materials such as path of War. The game will run once a week at a set time during mid afternoon and going a ways into the evening but not late. Everyone will arrive early and Converse prior to the game as well as after the game during the interim period between sessions. Myself and possibly others will provide artwork and music for the game, the GM will produce Maps and a detailed well-thought-out and consistent game world if we are not using pre-established material.

Ironically I would probably end up playing first party material anyway because that is where most of my ideas have been trending.
>>
>>47669012
Hi, anon! You've got a number of class and option choices.

If you want the strongest MOUNT possible, your best option is probably the humble Hunter class. You take a BAB hit but you'll barely feel it when your roc/allosaurus/animal you desire purely for aesthetic reasons butchers things twice its size with you. Outflank, Paired Opportunist, Pack Flanking, Precise Something or Other, you're golden!

Another option is the base summoner, or because you'll probably have to, the unchained summoner. 3/4ths BAB, powerful monster thing, and it looks cool as fuck. Good times!

If you love getting in there yourself and mixing it up on a serious basis, accept no substitutes: the Ambush Hunter Ranger (remember Boon Companion, and that it allows you to splash a level of anything Wis-based because you have an extra +1 druid level) or the Hussar archetype for the Warlord (glorious!) or Warder (unstoppable!) are both awesome. I generally prefer the Ambush Hunter but to be honest I dismount a lot for flanking, because you recover maneuvers and get huge damage buffs for doing that. Doesn't interfere with Mounted combat style, which is good because Trick Riding is a solid early grab.

If you don't want your mount to steal ANY of the glory, there's the Omen Rider Harbinger, who has basically a weird tanky summon that cannot attack at all but that's fine, it's fast and you're murderous. The Ravenlord Harbinger eventually gets to ride their very intelligent bird but Gareth ruined it forever when he took away the size change stat bonuses (admittedly it was pretty fucking strong with those) and you have to wait a long time and it's very supernatural.

ALSO AND NOBODY KNOWS THIS BUT ME, the Akashic Mysteries supplement playtest includes an animal companion archetype called the Buraq. I'll just hit you with the highlight: Robe of the Forgotten Deity for (by level 6) 25-35% constant miss chance for both of you. Other veils are great too! And it can fly eventually!
>>
>>47669021
But surely you can play the class that already does all of that, Kineticist! [insert meme face here]
Jokes aside, it'll probably take a while since I'm trying to keep at least part of the modularity of the Vigilante version, which is going to mean talents out the ass. If there's anything in particular you want from it let me know.

I played the class a bit while writing and polishing it, so take my synopsis from that POV.

The GSM is focused around the Impact ability. Through it, you put out a lot of battlefield control and a half-decent chunk of damage (though not enough, even at max, to really be called a striker).

The pet is the same way. It is meant to run around tagging people with touch attacks to deliver Impact effects, and to full-attack when it gets the opportunity.

Well I should hopefully at least have that part covered, anon. That's pretty much the whole point of rewriting it into a separate class, after all. It might be redundant in terms of function, but Mystic Bolts don't deserve the treatment they got.

I intend to make a magical girl archetype after I get the base class's initial stuff worked out. Cha-based spontaneous instead of Int-based prepared, maybe with a special utility-focused familiar guide.

Maybe an archetype without spellcasting which focuses on the bolts super-hard? With initiating and EFlux/Solar Wind to boost them.

About an hour into the game the GM sent us an email saying he had "important family things this week" (actual quote) and so wouldn't be able to run for the next week or two.

>>
>>47669653
Initiating is better than 4th-level casting from a good list, but not better than 6th-level casting from a good list. It makes a mental attribute very important and it effectively increases the feat needs of a character by 1-3.
>>
>>47669653
Also, what do you think about a Psionic archetype? It would have few powers known and focus heavily on elemental damage.
>>
>>47669760
I was actually thinking of working on some Psionic classes similar to the Warmage, Dread Necromancer, and Beguiler. Full Manifesters with much more narrow and focused power list and some new abilities.
>>
>>47669786
I like the idea.
>>
>>47669747
What he prepared doesn't really matter as one can simply change that.

As for his AC/HP. Honestly a level 1 wizard doesn't expect much better. With mage armor it goes up to 13, but really at max you should be expecting 16 as a level 1 wizard (and that's with an investment in dex).

Acid splash is useless compared to a light crossbow honestly which he does in fact have.

He isn't worse off than most level 1 wizards would be if you didn't specifically know you were going to be fighting undead. Most people don't generally grab undead tech level 1.
>>
>>47669653
Well the Cryptic is very weak on the 'mystic bolts' side, but is basically a psionic warlock.

Crossbows do piercing, for one, and don't hit touch.

If it is indeed an undead dungeon, he'd have issues with DR even if he did hit, whereas acid splash is far more reliable.

Asking again. So from what I can figure the weight increases by a factor of 8. This seems a little ridiculous as a large chest then weighs 800 pounds. The weights for chests in PF seem off in general. Even one with only 4 cubic feet of space weighs 400 pounds.

As for the price from what I can tell it should roughly double.

In fairness, he does have a scroll of Burning Hands. It's something. But I would agree that he should've changed out Daze for some sort of damage cantrip in the events that his crossbow doesn't work out for him. Ideally Disrupt Undead since that can destroy Bloody Skeletons in the off-chance that they were to show up, not to mention having easily higher damage potential in an undead dungeon. Still tho, I wouldn't give him flak for prepping Sleep; you never know when you need Sleep at early levels.

They had an article on their culture in Dragon Magazine #298 that really emphasized the darker side of drow culture. Want a sample? According to this lore, drow don't die out because, despite their tendency to murder and torture each other, they're as fertile as orcs, with females normally conceiving twins and triplets. They normally only birth a single baby, though, because the strongest usually kills and absorbs the others in the womb; these prenatal struggles actually produce orgasms more intense than anything a drow female might feel elswhere. This sensation, chad-zak, is explicitly called out as the main reason why drow women are willing to get pregnant at all, considering the selfish power-hungry bitches they generally are.

There's also the Alchemical Sapper archetype from UI which might be handy since you could potentially level buildings with it, in which case grabbing the Remote Bomb feat could be handy.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jNC6Z3p7AA-tjkBsp0lDuBT3YRoJQzOeqr9fuyF0QAk/edit?usp=sharing

As mentioned, cues taken from Blaster Armorist, but with some differences around the shop considering 3/4 CL instead of 1/2.

Yeah, but archetypes are generally said first, due to being an adjective of sorts. It's a Soundstriker Bard, not a Bard Soundstriker. Thus, a Stalker with the Vigilante archetype is a Vigilante Stalker, while a Vigilante with the Stalker Specialization is a Stalker Vigilante.

You'll probably need a Masterwork Musical Instrument. It's 100gp and gives a +2 to Perform checks with it.
>>
At around what level should players be able to afford customizations for their weapons?

If I have a Masterwork rapier, and I'm level 7, how long can I expect to wait, on average, before I'll have the money to pay someone to make it +1, Dispelling, and Bane (Construct)? Because my personal wealth amounts to maybe 400 gold and a few thousand more in gear split with my group.
>>
>>47672516
by level 7 a character should have approx 23,500 gp in equipment.
>>
>>47672537
I am absolutely positive my GM is gypping us on that front. But he says that the sum amount of wealth of gear we've looted so far in the Iron Gods adventure path (We're halfway through the second book) matches up with the wealth table, except that's per player, and we're a 5 person group. I personally spend almost no gold (though I am 28 CR5 souls in debt to Asmodeus), and I am sure I should have more than I do, but I can't be sure.
>>
>>47671907
I write them as Bard (Soundstriker), myself.
>>
>>47672571

That is not split among 5 people.
>>
>>47672440
What do Perform checks even do? Inspire Courage is checkless and so are spells. Any other performances are useless.

You can use perform checks to replace other skill checks as you level up so a +2 to one stat can act as a +2 to 3 more valuable stats IIRC.

Its an absolutely fine archetype if you want to make a more blasty Bard with a hint of Magus

Its not great but its a decent BLASTY bard, and if thats what you want its by far the best archetype for it.

Well, I claimed a cape of the mountebank from the party treasure. I decided to jump on the back of a 5 headed pyro-hydra, then use the cape to take me an the hydra 700' above an enemy ettin. Well, I lost the grapple with the hydra, and fell with it.
Prior to this I had prepared a bomb using my portable alchemists kit, some gunpowder, and a few vials of alchemist's fire I had laying around.
Needless to say this bomb, along with the cape and a magic weapon impacted the ettin along with the hydra.
I ended the encounter at least.

Man, how the hell would you even work combination attacks in a system like Pathfinder anyway? I can't see it working as anything but having to be done on a case by case basis, if it were to be an actual special attack and not just one person doing something to help the other.
>>
>>47674414
would need to be some sort of special homebrew rule, two players would have to be close enough to eachother to perform it

In addition it would likely have to take up the turn of the partner in the combo, IE

Init order is

player 1

enemy

player 2

a combo would have to use player 1 and player 2's turns

so the action chart would look like

Player 1 (combo)

enemy

player 2 (turn used in combo, skipped)

player 1

enemy

player 2

It could be done i'm sure, would be interesting homebrew.
>>
>>47674432
Mm. That or take Readied actions. So player 1 readies, then player 2 starts the actual attack.
>>
>>47674451

>>
>>47674476
No
>>
>>47674496
seriously why would they tie this to FEATS of all things.

Fucking just make it a cool flavor optional rule

Imagine if your mage cast lightning bolt and let your fighter swing that shit like a sword as a combo, that would be sick nobody gives a fuck if its a mechanically more powerful move.
>>
>>47674476
I don't have an issue with it being tied to feats, I have an issue with Elemental Commixture being way more complex than it needs to be.

I guess that's a side effect of vancian.

It'd probably be easier to do in something like Spheres.
>>
>>47673599

Looks solid overall. Can't find any glaring faults. I personally don't like saving finale, but with your wis 8 it's a reasonable investment. 8.5/10.
>>
>>47674522
Saving Finale is actually so good.
>>
>>47674508
I mean, you kinda do give a fuck. If it's something you can do any time and it's always superior to the mage just shooting a lightning bolt normally and the warrior just swinging their weapon normally, you've designed a situation where players are encouraged to always perform the combo attack. Which means it's not something cool or special, it's something you constantly every round. That cheapens it and makes it routine.
>>
>>47673599
>10 CON
>male bard
>fort +0
>Rich Parents aka most worthless trait ever
2/10 apply yourself
>>
>>47674514
in reality 3.5/pf is just a terrible system for combos because combos are generally something you want to have happen rarely, have a build up to, be a big finisher. You need some system where you build up points in battle and when both players have enough a combo can happen

>>47674558
basically outlines the problems yeah.
>>
>>47674530

I know it's extremely good, but he's doing a very aggressive ranged bard. Saving finale is strictly defensive. At first level, when he has next to no B. performance rounds and rocket tag/shanktown is in effect? Better to drop enemies before they can force the saves. I'll extoll picking it up at level 3 or so, but it just feels too early in the build for it in my opinion.

And I do realize that I phrased my statement wrong earlier. My apologies.
>>
>>47674574
oh is he in rusty dagger shanktown

Fuck that nigga needs some color spray
>>
>>47674573
It's not an impossible design problem to solve, but it is a difficult one. If big finishing combo attacks were keyed to a rage bar mechanic that had to fill up during combat at a rate where it's unlikely for routine fights to fill it, but climactic or protracted battles might, that could work- though it would be a such a situational ability you definitely shouldn't charge character resources (important, permanent ones like class features, anyway) for the privilege of using it.
>>
>>47674637
if it were to be added it would have to be a completely optional add-on system imo, something that goes over top the existing to work.
>>
>>47674476
>>47674465

How i've done it in Path of War was by using Mithral Current and putting silver vulnerability on an enemy, then an ally with a silver weapon uses their strike on the follow up.

I've also done some shenanigans with Riven Hourglass or otherwise set up debuffs prior to an ally going.
>>
>>47674625
Bards don't get color spray. They don't get a lot of nice toys period.

>>47674571
Could change out my familiar to move it to a +2 fort save. Unfortunately being an archer I am already strapped for ability scores. I could lower charisma and free up 5 points, but I really feel 16 if a bare minimum unless I never plan on having anyone try and make fail a save ever. In addition my skills suffer, and because of versatile performance I cover a lot of bases with charisma.
>>
>>47674746
Honestly, you probably shouldn't bother trying to force saves. It's a losing battle already since you're behind on spell levels and have other ability scores to focus on. 14 is really the highest your Charisma needs to be, and bards only really need a 12 or 13.
>>
>>47674746
Could change his stats to the following:

Str: 14
Dex: 16
Con: 14
Int: 12
Wis: 8
Cha: 14

Honestly though that is some low Cha for a bard.
>>
>>47674746
Grease then
>>
>>47674773
Again, my save DCs are abysmal because I can't invest up to 20 Cha unless I just say goodbye to my ability to shoot a bow. Save DCs are not a winner's battle for everyone but full casters because spell levels don't scale as well.

I could give up firing a bow and using any dex skills and instead be a pure caster with 20 Cha, but honestly the one extra grease a day isn't that appealing. I only get 2 spells to begin with.
>>
>>47674784
you're in rusty dagger shanktown right now, spells can be replaced later

Grease.
>>
>>47674784
>>47674769
Another thing, what can I grab over Duettist to be a better ranged combatant without sacrificing Bardic Knowledge? I need to cover our group's collective asses for skills likely as no one is int based or a high sill rank class besides me.
>>
>>47674800
Arcane Duelist gives up Bardic Knowledge, but is the single best archetype available for bow bards.
>>
>>47674808
Arcane Duelist is really the single best archetype for Combat bards, period.
>>
>>47674810
Dervish Dancer is also pretty good tbqh.
>>
>>47674795
I have a trash save DC. Grease does next to nothing for me. I'd almost be better off tossing around marbles.
>>
>>47674746

The familiar is fine. And you can drop charisma to 14 safely, it'll hurt your DC's of any offensive spells. If you go that route, I'd take vanish. Good for both offense and defense. If you leave your charisma at 16, both sleep and grease are good options. All options are good, even keeping Finale. It honestly depends on your playstyle, and the rest of your team.
>>
>>47674810
Versatile Performance & Bardic Knowledge are honestly too big of a price to pay. Only reason I'm willing to give it up for Duettist is so my bird can just make knowledge checks for me as a sage.
>>
>>47674825
Because for some reason you're pumping strength.

Bruh you're trying too hard to deal damage

If no one in your party is int based or a skill monkey, i'm guessing what your party needs isn't damage, but rather control and buffing.
>>
>>47674844

Your familiar can also force flanks for your frontliners, in a pinch. May we ask what the rest of your team will be?
>>
>>47674857
We have me, a sorcerer, a melee oracle (plans on being a rage prophet), a druid, and an aetherist (a homebrew class of some kind? seems like a beefed up kineticist with more utility)

>>
>>47674903
It's a Songbird right now, asked the GM to let me use the stats of a Thrush and get +3 to perform instead of diplomacy.

>>47674903

No idea about the druid or aetherist.
>>
>>47674950

>>
>>47674950
I'm going to have to steal the Songbird idea for upcoming Maestro Tattooed Sorcerer.
>>
>>47674950

Yeah. You'll fill the 'rogue' slot in the party well. Play him like you would a very aggressive beguiler, probably saving your bardic performances for when you need to alpha strike down a priority target.
>>
>>47674970
>>47674950

Oh, and songbirds are frickin' tiny. He'll serve well as an extra pair of eyes. Divinations might be great, but sometimes just having someone peer into a window on the second floor will solve so many issues. And since it's a sage, and will likely know what it's looking at? All the better.
>>
>>47675004
It certainly has a better stealth than me, +14 rather than 7.
>>
>>47675017

I think it's much higher than that. +12 from size, +2 from dex, and since it's a familiar doesn't it also get your ranks? So you can tack on another +4.
>>
>>47675066
Doesn't get my ranks because sage.
>>
>>47675004

So... you want to miss? You knew that common level 1 enemy like Goblin has 16-17AC right?

You have 0BAB+3DEX+1(from song) = +4 total.
Rapid Shot turn that into +2.

You will have to roll 15 or higher to hit with Rapid Shot, and only a natural 20 will hit if it's melee with someone.

Also Sneak Attack is terribad with bow. Why would you even want it.
>>
>>47675502
>16-17AC
Goblins tend to be closer to, like, 12, dude.
>>
>>47675645
Probably more towards the middle +1 Size bonus, +2 from leather armor, and a racial +4 Dex for a 14 (+2) nets them generally around a 15.
