In the last bread we learned that some classic Forge World stuff is now on last chance, we discussed how we would do traitors from the loyalists legions, how we'd do loyalists from the traitors legions, one 1k Son Anon posted his troubles with red paint, an Iron Circle version of 500 miles was made, we talked about Destroyers and much more in the previous bread >>47470491

Played a practice game today with my 1850 points of Imperial Fists against my friend's aspect host Eldar. things I learned: don't skimp on armored Ceramite...or a squad of fire dragons will use a webway portal and fuck your Land Raider up. Also Sigismund is more durable than a Land Raider and can tank a ton of rending wounds.

I put the image as a spoiler because my guys are unpainted (just finished building yesterday) and I don't wanna offend people.

True. LACAL has been a little outdated since HH4, owing to Forgeworld still not really knowing for sure what they wanted 30k to be at that time (remember back on HH1 where the Reductor were going to be merely LoW options for the legiones astartes?).

As such, we'll have to wait for LACAL...2nd Edition, which I hope will solve stuff like 6E prices (40k dreads get cheaper lascannons. Cheaper everything, really), balance issues (Boxnoughts are obsolete), as well as put it in line with the future IA/SA redbook (48" laser destroyer)
I thought AdMech would bring all the rad, though.

Implacable advance Heavy support squads would be nice.
Unfortunately the recent Imperial-Army book was pretty lazy apparently - nothing changing for Solar Auxilia, the knights getting the gallant and warden and the Imp-militia Quad-mortar now only having Frag - they didnt even add new provenances or alternative Tercio units etc.

So its fairly likely all we'll see are the non-legion specific units released since, the changes in the erratas and not much else.

Scoring heavy squads for everyone would step on the DG toes to an extend, though I would be willing to allow it if they only scored outside their deployment zone (which IMO is what non-troop termies should have instead of blanket scoring to represent that use to attack points and not hold backfield objectives on their side) and had access to suspensor webs as an upgrade, so the only way to use them to score is to use them as aggressive support for your shock troops

>>47512207

Considering how in the new Legions book their are characters that still have 6th ed warlord traits boxed into their profiles I wouldn't hold my breathon huge updates, though a deep price cut on boaxnaughts and breachers would be appreciated

So here's my idea for Xenocide Blackshield Outlanders:

After proving themselves more than competent at eliminating xenos threats in the mid-Great Crusade, the War-born's VIIth Purgation Company was dispatched to evaluate the threat of a hitherto unknown xeno threat that was said to be lurking on the very fringes of the galaxy by various corroborated reports from Rogue Trader and Explorator fleet expeditions. The exact nature of these xenos was unknown, but the first hand reports indicated that they regularly took the form of hexapodal swarm-based entities, with an affinity for the consumption of their enemy's flesh, and in some of the more extravagant accounts, consumption of entire biospheres. Preparing for the worst the Purgation company arrived armed with as many phosphex munitions and volkite weapons as could be mustered for what was supposed to be simply a reconnaissance and possibly skirmish mission.

Called fool-hardy by comrades and overly cautious by commanding officers the apprehensive intuition of the VIIth proved correct as the foe's awful power was revealed to them shortly after their arrival in near-extragalactic space. Whole worlds that had been recorded as verdant and exploitable were barren rocks, left as little more than hollow husks of dust and empty echoes. Soon after receiving astropathic transmissions confirming even the most outlandish stories produced about the mystery aliens the VIIth Purgation Company disappears from the official record, and was eventually written off as missing in action. Here begins the stuff of legend, correlating the mysterious "Ashen Saviours" to the VIIth Purgation Company only through these coincidental factors linking them together.

Ayy sup Curzefag. I'll let this degeneracy go this time.

I was reading up on the Carcharadons this morning and now I'm convinced that pic related is how they came about. I'm not mad, the Carcharadons are fucking cool.
>>
>>47515169
2/2
Firstly, the colouration of their armour; the colours of the War-born were storm grey with secondary gun-metal detailing, and the colouration of the Ashen Saviours seems to be somewhat similar, however their armour exhibits much wear, from bio-acid scarring to alchemical burns common upon legionnaires in Destroyer groups, as well as rusting upon metallic based components Secondly, an obsession with destroying an enemy members of the Ashen Saviours all seem to obsess over, colloquially known amongst themselves as the "Great Devourer", which may have related to the VIIth's original mission of xenocide, and subsequent obsession with eliminating this threat turning to mental degradation. Third and finally, an extreme, almost religious affinity for the cleansing power of phosphex and other energy based weapons such as flamer, or volkites. This would be very in line with captured member's intense obsession with "starving the great annihilator", if the biomass devouring swarms they were originally sent to investigate feed upon the flesh of their enemies as purported.

As noted above this is simple speculation and correlation by Imperial scribes and adepts who have collated discrepancies and losses of major assets during the past ages in order to attempt recovery.
-High Scribe-Adept Viktoriam Messula 845.M35

So essentially they saw Tyranids unholy hunger, were mindfucked, and now their warcry is"No flesh shall be spared!". They go about killing worldsso that the nids don't get them.
>>
>>47514802
I put it into categories. My 40k folder is divided into three folders: Imperial, Traitor Legions and other Unassorted Chaos, and Xenos. The Emperor, Custodes, Sisters of Silence, AdMech, Sisters of Battle, Inquisition, civilians and Malcador all go into the Imperial folder. The IG/SA have their own folder which is dominated by Vostroyans. The marine folder is divided into the loyalist folder which consists of both Angels, Fists, Ultras, Sallies, Wolves, Scars, Hands, and Raven. Their successor chapters all go in their parent chapter's folder. Grey Knights and Blood Ravens do have their own folders, and the rest of the Loyalist folder is filled with other chapters and known loyalists from the HH.

I don't need to explain the Xeno folder. If it's not a Traitor Legion it doesn't go into a traitor legion folder, but daemons of the respective traitor legion's patron God goes into there.

As for non 40k pictures if I have a lot of it it does get its own folder, if not it just goes into my picture library. Which is at least 3000-10000 pics.
>>
>>47515209

Three full detachments of BA WS and IF with three allied detachments of Auxilia, Reductor and Custodes, I'd spam fortifications, artillery and bunk down with the IF SA and OR and outflank/deepstrike my WS and BA into the enemy, my three LoW would be a Primarch, TItan and Stormbird.

Taking the plunge into 30k. More interested in making a cool looking and fluffy army than anything super competitive, but I would hugely appreciate if anyone could give me a vague idea of what kind of points I'm looking at here. Just a ballpark figure.

Siege Breaker

10 Tactical Marines
Rhino

Rhino

Rhino

20 Tactical Marines

3 Contemptor Dreadnoughts
w. DCCW and Kheres

w. autocannons

Spartan Assault Tank

3 Medusas

Sicaran Venator

Thinking they will stat him as such,

still expecting LA rules to be something like this
- All Preators and Consuls may upgrade to max ML 2 (all consuls except Libby) or ML 3 (preator and Libby)
- Primary detachment must include atleast 1 psyker
- All units may harass warp charges on 4+ (this would make Ksons capable of unleashing a shittonne of Mind DAKKA)
- may not have more vehicles then infantry.
>>
>>47515813
SoH, WB and SA. All aroubd 2k points.

Should get you about 3000 points give or take. I honestly have no clue what the hell a Typhon costs so I guessed 500 points in my estimate. Either way it looks good except it has no effective AA, granted you could easily magnetize your dreads to make some mortis contemptors for AA. Beyond that my only advice is that rhinos die real easily in 30k and I would personally go for 3 units for 20 marines over 3 units of 10 and 1 unit of 20. Cheaper (pointwise) too.

Fantastic, cheers. The rhinos are mainly because I love the Deimos models. Also they get extra armour for free with hammer of Olympia.

I hear you on the anti air. Was considering arming the iron Havocs with missile launchers or something so they will be dedicated for it.

My only change beyond that is that apparently you can't have the siege breaker on his own as you need a praetor or primarch to unlock the rite of war. So I'll either switch him out for a warsmith or add in a praetor.

>>
>>47521259
My thoughts were something like.
>Any character may become a ML 1 psyker for 45 points (so exactly like Librarians). Independent characters can be upgraded to ML 2 for an additional 20 points.
>Any librarians and praetors may be upgraded to ML 3 for a total of 85 points (25 base plus 20 for each ML)
>Some buffs relating to psychic powers as a whole

The end result is while the 1K sons are scary they will almost inevitably end up being an extremely small army as their powers are extremely expensive. Just fielding a single ML 3 praetor and two ML 3 librarians would cost you 455 points before wargear and that is just your HQ slots.

Seeing how their army is based around psykers forcing them to have psykers seems redundant and restrictive (what if your army was made up of the outcasts with no psychic potential). However Rites of War should almost certainly have limits like "must include at least one librarian" and "must have a combined ML of X (eg. 12)." So if you want to play 1K sons without psykers for fluff or I suppose challenge reasons you can, it will just be a lot harder as you are playing a legion with almost no advantages to you.

What my group has been testing is letting the Praetor, Delegatus and Librarian buy/upgrade to ML3 and regular Consuls to ML2. Sergeants can upgrade to ML1.

With the stipulation that the Warlord must be at least one ML higher than the rest of the army.

It's worked out pretty well. It imposes a natural limit at lower points and scales up nicely. Want ML1 sarges? Then you need to pony up for a ML2 HQ.

The points add up really damn fast.
>>
>>47521706

>>
>>47521777
Do you buy the Librarian consul and then the mastery levels or just the mastery?
Also maybe a nod to the TS low population the squads could cap 15 marines.
>>
>>47521799
Sure, here's the whole thing.

Rules
Knowledge is Power:
- The Warlord must possess a higher Mastery Level than other Characters in the same Detachment.

Psychic Leadership:
- Preators are ML1 psykers by default and can buy an additional 2 Mastery Levels at 30 points each.
- Librarians can be Compulsory HQs, have ML1 by default and can buy an additional 2 Mastery Levels at 25 points each.
- Characters can buy a single Mastery Level for 25 points.

Psychic Potential:
- Characters who do not have a Mastery Level or Brotherhood of Psykers still add one Warp Charge to your total.

Equipment
Legion Wargear (Heqa Staff)
- Any psyker can replace a power or force weapon with a Heqa Staff for 10 points.
- Same stats as a one-handed force staff.
- Grants the wielder +1 to harnessing Warp Charges (3+ from 4+ in most circumstances).

Tutelary Companion:
- Upgrade for any Psyker, 5 points.
- When Perils is triggered you can choose to make a special save. On a 3+ the Perils is cancelled.
- If the save is failed you suffer the Perils and your opponent gets to target your power. The power is treated as if cast by the opponent for defining valid targets.

The staff is probably too strong when mixed with Psychic Potential.

Probably yeah, we just have not had a chance to play in the last two or so months, so no further tweaking of the rules.

To be honest I think it puts too much emphasis on the psychic aspect. Yeah that's their main schtick, but they are also precision experts and macro coordinators. I think other facets should be reflected in their rules. Or maybe that can be left to the Rites.
>>
>>47521950
I reckon that their basic rules will buff psykers a bit then two RoWs, one which boosts psykers even more and one which enhances shooting.
>>
>>47521950
I would say the main focus of the LA rules and RoW should be psychic in focus (perhaps one RoW is offensive psychic powers focus and the other is defensive psychic powers focus), however their other aspects should have some representation in their rules.

One idea to weaken them a bit is to include an Achilles heel that uses their own LA rules against them. For example EC are good at challenges and have to issue them but if they lose a challenge the unit suffers -1 leadership. One could use psychic powers against the Thousand Sons as part of an Achilles heel.
>>
>>47513012
I wouldn't really say that it steps DG toes all that much; A universally available unit shouldn't be exclusively useful in two armies.
Though maybe they would more popular if some of the weapon upgrades they have were not so atrociously expensive by todays standards (Lascannon models effectively 40pts a piece does not represent their effectiveness against the heavy armour its supposed to be used against.)
>>

Not him, but maybe something like Thousand Sons have to use at least one more dice than the required Warp Charge to try and harness> For instance if the spell needs 1 WC to go off, they have to roll at least 2 dice, increasing the risk of Perils?
>>

>Lascannon models effectively 40pts a piece does not represent their effectiveness against the heavy armour its supposed to be used against
The prices of some of the weapon upgrades and options are outdated from 6E. Take Dreads, where their tl lascannons still cost what it used to cost in the 6e marine Codex, where now it costa 15pts for them. And HH1 was even worse, with Predator lascannon sponsons that costed a good portion of the cost of yet another Predator

>>
>>47523592
if points is your problem, then so is your primarch: at 2k points and below, unless you have a really clever plan (tm) then you should leave that point sink (1/5 of your army no less)at home. this is double true of someone like alphie, who brings buffs to the table that benefit most from a cohesive plan, where everything has a number of pre-defined roles and does them very well.

my advise: drop the big A and either but more anti-hoard type things, or buff up your existing squads

Cinder of Salvation sounds pretty grim.
>>
So what's the general opinion of Blackshields, Marauders, and Pariah wargear?

Given Marauder's extreme flexibility I've been thinking of some different combinations:
>shotguns, laslocks and/or flamers with Pariah armour to run and gun into close combat
>using the Outlanders deployment rules (letting some of your infantry deep strike) and giving a group of Marauders lascutters and meltas then having them bum-rush vehicles

>>47525053
Given that there's already the Ashen Claws I think a change is good. And that does sound good too, especially considering the graveness of their task.
>>
>>47525147
Cinder would imply it allready is lost, ember for something that could start again and fires of salvation night imply an ongoing battle.

I have no idea about pariah wargear though.

Their bolters seem ok-ish, as in shooting AND stealing the charge.
But the armour bit is a bit meh, depends on your meta.

If you only have vindicators or bolter fore then I say go for it.

It is a nice workaround if there is no middle ground in enemy weapon strength.

In general, your out landers should get close to the enemy anyway and you could invest the bolter points in special weapons or power weapons.
>>
>>47525147
Suicide Outlanders are always a good idea, but don't take lascutters. They're just terrible.

So I have spent most of my memorial day painting up my 20 man squad of tacticals for my DG army. Have a quick question to everyone here though. I have been going back a forth on what color to paint their bolters. Should I go with the standard black for their bolter or the old school cherry red. I will admit that the red is what I am gravitating toward but I wanted to see what other would think.

Before anyone asks I know that they are a realy bright white in comparison to the usual DG color scheme but they are fluffed as being a chapter (within the legion) formed after Istavan and in brand newer gear. Only command and sergeants would be veterans.

I see the artillery restriction removal being tied to the Siege breaker/warsmith with some additional restriction, like only being able to take squadrons with a minimum of two tanks or requiring you to have more troops choices then artillery squadrons, meaning if you really want to invest in artillery you lock yourself into this shooty hoard army

and i really like the idea of more units being given omni-scopes, since most sergeants can take combi-weapons and havoks can take different heavy weapons per model you can make for very efficient shooting by using what would otherwise be overkill on a single target to cripple or pick off lighter/damaged units

Not really, Old Hundred were ultimately humans, just better trained, equipped, and more experienced. Solar Auxilia might be better as you can field nothing but Velatris and honour guards giving you army wide WS/BS 4 (or effectively anyway) as well as access to BS 4 volkite culverin leman russ tanks. Void hardened armour also helps.

Also that reminded me of a question, where the hell do tank commanders go for SA? Can I just drop them in a tank that is in a squadron? Can I put two or three tank commanders in the same squadron? 3 BS 5 preferred enemy volkite culverins with hull and pintle multilsers sounds pretty fucking brutal (30 BS 5 S 6 preferred enemy (infantry) shots within 36").

To anyone who has built together the Eidolon model: how much does his cloak bit cover his back before you put on the jump pack? I want to magnetize him to be able to have a normal backpack but it's hard to judge how difficult it would be.

Pic related is the main body (taken from a youtube video). The cloak bit has a metal plate on it but I'm not sure if it covers the entire recess, how it looks near the arms etc.

So I saw the Betrayal at Calth box on GW's website, and it's made me either want to get into 30k, start an SM army, or both.

Could I use all the models in the box as part of one army? And color-wise, am I limited to the legions?

Sorry for the newfag questions.
>>
>>47531215
Legions had variation on the colours and you can always look up old art and find a scheme in there that you like. I painted my dudes based on an old Index Astarted image.

On top of legions you got Blackshields. Militia can also have power armoured dudes with the Survivors of the Dark Age provenance.
>>
>>47531215

Yes, you can use all the models in 30k and 40k, loyalist legions (and the non-mono god legions) didn't change their colour scheme that much post heresy except for the Dark Angels

>Could I use all the models in the box as part of one army?
Definitely. Here's an outline for a starting list using only the box, coming in at around 1100-1300pts depending on upgrades:
HQ
Praetor with Cataphractii Armour and stuff, Rite of War: Pride of the Legion
Chaplain with Artificer Armour and stuff
Troops
10 Veteran Tacticals with special weapons, sergeant upgrades etc.
10 Veteran Tacticals with special weapons, sergeant upgrades etc.
10 Veteran Tacticals with special weapons, sergeant upgrades etc.
5 Cataphractii Terminators with whatever
(all of these become troops through the Rite of War)
Elite
Contemptor with Multi-Melta or Kheres, or a Contemptor-Mortis if you get another Kheres through ebay/FW/friends

You can do light conversion work and/or use FW bits to change the Chaplain into another kind of Consul, change the Veterans into Tactical Support/Seekers/Heavy Support etc.

>And color-wise, am I limited to the legions?
People expect you to paint a scheme that's appropriate to the time period, but there are more variants than the main 18.
Dusk Raiders, Luna Wolves, War Hounds, Imperial Heralds are all early versions of respective Legions.
Blackshields are basically Marines saying "fuck this" during the heresy and breaking off from their original Legion to join the other side or become independents/renegades.
There are also variants within the Legions such as pic related.
>>
>>47531447
>I have no clue what this means, sorry.
Blackshields are renegade Astartes, militia is an army list designed to represent any of the non-official imperium human armies out there during the horus heresy, provenances are special army rules that customise your forces providing new rules and allowing for different modelling options.

So now that the FAQ removed the stupid Infiltrate limitation of the last FAQ (That characters with infiltrate cannot join units without infiltrate) effectively making the rule work as written in the BRB, what are some cool combos you can do with Scout armored Vigilators? Especially for those legions without easy access to infiltrate, Salamanders sneaking a MultiMelta squad sounds nasty or IW deploying a giant squad of robots right in your ass.

NFILTRATE & SCOUT
Q: Does a unit that is embarked in a Scout vehicle count as having made a Scout move?
A: Yes.

Q: Are models with the Infiltrate special rule allowed to not use the rule to deploy and then charge normally in the first turn?
A: Yes.

Q: If a vehicle has Infiltrate, can you embark a unit inside it before deployment and then Infiltrate it onto the battlefield inside the vehicle?
A: No.

Q: Do Scout redeployments take place before or after the player going second is given the chance to Seize the Initiative?
A: After.

Q: Does deploying with Outflank count as moving for the purpose of shooting?
A: Yes.

Q: If you Infiltrate a unit of Pathfinders from a Ranged Support Cadre and then move them via their Scout special rule, does the unit count as having moved from their starting location?
A: Yes

Nothing about Infiltrate confering or not the rule from an IC to a unit or limiting its possibilities to join a unit, so we're back to what the rulebook says, an IC can confer the Infilitrate USR by joining it and we're back to that whole clusterfuck of whether you can infiltrate or not but thats so wishywashy imo that its best to just discuss it with your group. I mean if I missed something please correct me.

>>
>>47533488
Oh. Me sad.
As long as the fix points costs I'll be happy
>>
>>47534411
This one?

Q: Infiltrate rules state that an Independent Character without Infiltrate cannot join a squad of Infiltrators. Does this mean a squad that is actively Infiltrating or just any unit that has the Infiltrate rule? This matters for things like Outflank (granted freely by the Infiltrate rule) and Infiltrate units that have Deep Strike.
A: An Independent Character without the Infiltrate special rule cannot join a unit of Infiltrators during deployment, whether they are Infiltrating, Deep Striking, Outflanking or deploying normally. They are free to join units as they wish after deployment.

Because its the only thing I found on that page and its about characters that DONT have infiltrate joining a squad that does, so the opposite situation. Enlighten me please.
>>
Can you guys post your 2k points lists you usually play? I don't really know any good place to find list ideas aside from here and BolterandChainsword....
>>
>>47534024
>>47534457
ICs don't confer Infiltrate to units because they aren't part of the unit until deployment, at which point it's already too late to infiltrate.

Independent Characters, Joining and Leaving a Unit
>An Independent Character can begin the game already with a unit, either by being deployed in unit coherency with it or,
if the unit is in Reserve, by you informing your opponent of which unit it has joined.

Infiltrate
>Units that contain at least one model with this special rule are deployed last, after all other units (friend and foe) have
been deployed.

The order of operations becomes either:
>unit X has to deploy normally or enter reserves
>infiltrating IC has to deploy last
>infiltrating IC can deploy within coherency of unit X to join it, but at that point they're both already deployed and thus can't do any further infiltrating
or:
>unit X has to deploy normally or enter reserves
>IC decides not to infiltrate and joins the unit by deploying within coherency
>both units are deployed and thus can't do any further infiltrating

Autek gives Preferrened Enemy to the Volkites and himself, then hops in the outflanking Land Raider to extend it to the plasma gunners. Castreman jumps in the Venator and does his thing to tanks. Usually Death Guard are ivory, green, and gold (trim). That’s already three colors, so red would be too much. That’s why the bolters are usually done in black. Take a look at 40k Deathwing Terminators – the ones with red look a little gaudy compared the ones without.

You don’t have to listen to me, of course, especially since you’re already brightening up the color scheme. If you go with red, look up a color wheel, match the shade of green to the wheel, and see which shade of red is opposite. If you use gold, it’s okay to pick a green between your green and the gold and see which red is opposite that. Then darken it to dull it down.
